I pick my teams out of home town loyalty. Sox are going to be strong in a very short time. Mark my words. To be honest, I'm a fair weather Bears fan. If they get good again I'll jump on the bandwagon for sure. But a decade of mismanagement has left me embittered.

I understand I just like having fun with you. -- My dad used to get so mad at my brother and I when we ere young. I grew up being a Green Bay fan for as long a I can remember my brother to maybe to a lesser degree, but my dad would always say you need to root for your home team and the more he said that the bigger fan of Green Bay I became lol - -same with the Royals - same thing I grew up liking the Yankees the more he said we should be cheering for the Royals - I would root for the Yankees.

So I can see why now - -you like the Bears -no wonder you can't stand the Packers, although my dis-taste for the Bears isn't as strong. I have a bigger did-liking for the Vikings and Lions - -can't stand Detroit, but it's all good in the end run - just like having fun and poking. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Coach Self • Dec 27, 2017 06:11 PM

pretty interesting article, and a rather concerning thing or lack there of that can quite possibly be yet another way that can end up costing us if we don't make strides improvement and that's - - -Free Throw attempts. I knew we were not doing a good job but didn't realize it was as bad as what the article brought out.

The article starts out that there is a trend now that in the last 4 consecutive non con seasons where KU has dropped from the previous season.

In 13-14 Ku went from shooting 30.3 attempts per game in the first 12 games of the season to the next year to 25.4 attempts and then dropped to 23.2 attempts in 15-16 then to 21.8 in 16-17 as far as attempts in the first 12 games of the season.

Self said it's not so much that they have declined as to by how much they have declined this season. -- Ku at the present after the first 12 games of the season - - - are you ready? - -after the first 12 games of the season -KU is averaging 11.8 per game - -not for a half - -but for A GAME. - Self says that is 10 fewer then last season almost half the attempts as we attempted in 15-16.

Now put this in perspective. This year there was a 4 game stretch we KU attempted 34 free throws in a 4 game stretch - - -" 34 " - - -" 34 " - that is nuts. - -you put that in comparison to where KU attempted 34 free throw attempts in a SINGLE game 8 times during the previous 4 seasons - -again " 8 " different occasions where we shot that many in one game in the previous 4 seasons - - -huge drop of.

Coach Self reason is obvious and it would be easy to fix - -BUT the question is he said who do we have that can fix it? -The answer is drive the ball, he says Devonte does it some but other then that - -we don't have a Frank Mason or Josh Jackson, he said.

Coach states that in the Nebraska and Omaha game there was a TOTAL of 17 free throws - - -17 ! ! ! - -he there have been a lot of times in the past we shot that many in a half, and with the way they are trying to emphasize keeping your hands off the body they mention you would think it would be a bigger total for sure. Coach said when is the last time a KU team in two consecutive games shot a total of 17 free throws, - - In the dam Stanford game we shot a total of TEN - -TEN for the entire game. Now he said because of how we played the Stanford game it wasn't as bad - -BUT when the shot is not falling in a closely contested game - - like he says ummm.

Going into the Omaha game Malik - - -Malik had shot a total for the season -- 11 free throws - -11 fricken free throws on the year ! ! ! - - and he stated that Dok our big man the animal had ONE - -you hear that ? - - - -ONE - -ONE free throw in the LAST FIVE GAMES - - -ONE FREE THROW from your big. - -now to me that might be a blessing in disguise because of his % but I understand for sure what the Coach is saying, you get one free throw attempt from your post man in Five games - - Come on man that is beyond ridicilious . Now all of that is not Dok's fault for sure, it can be a combination of things, it can be part Dok's fault foe not working hard enough to establish, then it can also is partly the rest of the guys fault for not looking and trying to get Dok the ball inside when he does post up - we settle a lot for the jumper.

When it's all said and done there is going to come a time where our lack of free throw attempts in a game is going to cost us and it's going to cost us big unless we get it fixed. Let's just hope it's not down the line in the NCAA and the result costs us another early exit in the tourney - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Big 12 down • Dec 27, 2017 05:13 PM

I re-watched the Kentucky game and Vitale said "The Big 12 is way-way down this year and KU will continue their phenominal wtreak of Consecutive conference wins." This was said very early in the season. Oklahoma had lost it's best player to injury last year and was still ahead of KU in the second half by 12 pts. until Frank took over. Anytime you have to face Huggins , Kruger, and Dixon, you better be prepared.

I've said it before and I'll say it again when the Big 12 got Jamie it really was a nice get for the Big 12 as a whole & a huge pick up for TCU - I have always thought he was a pretty good Coach and now it's starting to pay off for TCU. - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Could be a low scoring game unless we control the pace. We have to run Bamba off the lane, he's an elite eraser. The best shot blocker in the Big-12 since Withey by far

Read from the Texas site that Andrew Jones their leading scorer might be back for the game Friday.

I don't think we have to worry a lot about them trying to slow it down, I think they will want to try and run , quicker pace - just from what I've seen from them watching them this year they have a hard time shooting the ball, I think low 40's % wise

If Jones can't play I think the one's you have to watch for the most is not Bamba ( Offensively ) anyways he still pretty green in that area BUT on defense for sure he makes up for a lot. Offensively probably from what I've seen this year the other Big can't remember his name is pretty decent and then Roach , Roach loves to try and drive the ball and if he gets to the hole, he wants to tear the rim down - -can really jump.

I'm thinking we will probably end up winning this game somewhere like in the middle 80's - like 85 -78 somewhere in that range would be my prediction. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

@JayHawkFanToo Since I'm an ignoramus when comes to the NBA, who are the better centers in the NBA compared to Embiid? Anthony Davis and who else?

Uh, no your not guy , don't feel alone that's for sure. I too don't really know either as I don't really follow that close myself. I just follow Jo, Jo and then also other KU players you know like Frank and such. - As far as a daily thing I just don't.

I hardly ever watch a game especially in the regular season , now come the playoffs I'll watch more - - it's just my personal feelings that's during the regular season seems to me they don't even try to play legit D - -I know that's probably not the case but that's just the way I've felt.

Again as far as far as the better Centers are - -hell I can't even tell you who any of the centers are little lone the better ones are, so don't feel alone lol - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

If Silvio can play Friday Self will play his walk-ons. He played the football player at the end of a blowout win, not exactly throwing him out there in the fire. Now Sosinski has had more time to learn what is required of him if need be. He'll play the guys that know what they are doing. That's not Silvio yet. We are in Big-12 play, Bill Self's baby. On the road defending our streak, yeah Self isn't about to throw guys out there for the sake of it.

In due time though. I'm hoping by February he's either our 2nd big or 3rd big in the rotation

Again this why like I said it's good to have a forum to voice opinions. - -IF I were a betting man - I would have to place that wager with you that De-Sousa would see action in a conference game before walk on's - but I spend my money more wisely. - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

I don't think anyone would care really if he left

Not so sure about that. - I thin there would be enough that would care IF he did leave.

I think we are going to regret ever signing him when we reflect on the season

Well see this is what I like about this room we can give our honest opinion, give our opinions Just so happens on this one we don't agree but that's ok. - -I see where you posted above that Coach would play his walk ons before De-Sousa . - I have just got to say I just think your totally wrong on that.

Like I stated somewhere back 3 practices whatever, Coach would do Silvio just like the football walk on if nothing else. - Coach ask our walk on the 1st game he played in - -are you ready for this? - -He replied I don't know any of it. - -Which Silvio wouldn't either BUT like the Coach told him - -that's ok - -just sit a high ball screen and roll to the basket.

De Sousa can do just the same , until he can start picking up the offense. - -Some people seem to feel we need Silvio to produce some un Godly offensive numbers. Now I am not saying you think that but there are those that do To the contrary, that's not a must from the get go with De Sousa. He is only going to basically get spot minutes for awhile anyways, giving Dok relief when foul trouble and such. He can like Coach said sit the high ball screen and roll to the basket score some - -get some garbage 2nd chance rebounds - -put backs, we have enough scoring where it is not a must for him to score huge. At least not right off the bat.

The bigger thing we need for him is on the defensive end Rebounding giving fouls and rebounding on the offensive end - he would be fine for a bit. Again it's ok to disagree right? - -Everybody has their own opinion and this just happens to be mine that's all - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

So then after that it came down to KU and Oklahoma and well - - - we see how that worked out - -it's ok so in reality it would of went Kentucky - -Oklahoma and THEN KU - -so be it - -just like any other big time prize recruit - -just like Williamson same with Young - - If for some reason Williamson comes - -Great - if not - - Great - We were fine before Zion - -We will be fine after Zion - -Same with Trae --We were fine before Trae - -We will be fine after Trae - MERRY CHRISTMAS - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

@jayballer54 yah man, on the threat of upset scale for OU, I got them at a 5.5 of 10. Its pretty much just Trae and then everyone else. Lattin still there. He's good. Everyone else, ehhhh. Not enough to beat KU. That said, I'm psyched to see both games!!
Til anyone proves other wise, the Big 12 runs through Kansas!!

Well I know I'm in the minority with Young, that's ok - -I don't care. We all have heard how he is the 2nd wonder, & hell ya really , really good -extremely good. I'm just not ready to sale the farm on him and Oklahoma being the team that breaks our streak of Conference championships

We have had our share of really good players/teams thinking THEY were going to be the one to end the streak , Trae thinks they will this year. Good for him , thats the way he should think , that's the way he better think , as a Coach I wouldn't want my player thinking any other way. I know several think that I'm missing 3 screws out of a 4 screw cover plate for thinking this with Trae, people say well Trae has a supporting cast , he makes them look better. - -Great Buddy had what I feel was a better supporting cast when he was there -they didn't take it from us, - people say well Buddy wasn't as good as Trae, quite possibly so, seems to me though is doing just fine thank you. His supporting cast was better.

Trae averages like 10.5 assists a game - -ungodly number. As a team they average 19 still not as good as assist average as KU as a team. That means amongst the remaining squad for Okla they only average 9 assists as a team. -KU'S - Devonte averages like 6.6 assists per game - -that means the rest of our squad is responsible for the remaining 14 a game - As a team were better sharing scoring the ball. Were better shooting the ball, KU is 4th in the Nation in Fg % - - -Okla is 18th - - KU is 3rd in the Nation in assists - - -Okla is 8th with Trae. - - KU is better in 3 pt % - -KU is 13th in the Nation - - Okla with Trae is 58th. - - Okla with Trae , turns the ball over more then KU. -- -I get it - - I get it - -I really , really , do. Trae is a stud - -no one denying that, I just feel as a team we still got this - -as a overall team - KU is the better team.

I have more concerns that IF we are to be dethroned this year it will be -- West Virginia , not Oklahoma. The Big 12 is going to be a blood bath for sure. Once again it's going to be all about protecting home court and stealing two three games on the road in conference. Who knows , maybe we have had our bad stretch earlier in the season this year instead of our typical March swoon. Gotta believe , with the addition of De Sousa and in the end which I think will happen - -Billy just got to help & help enough to brin another conference Championship.

Like the announcers said yesterday during the game going to be very very interesting how Trae holds up in the hostile enviroment of opposing Big 12 areana's - How Trae is going to hold up against that constant full court anytime anywhere pressure from West Virginia and Carter. - -Again I get it , just not ready to concede, and say Trae is taking over - he gonna face alot of big time quality players in the Big 12 and I just think we have face some prety dam good guards before - ( Tyler Ullis & De AAron Fox come to mind right off the top -we have turned away mny of really good teams that as teams we played and won. Na, I think I'll just stay put -- play it out, I'm good with who KU has - -we have better supporting players, as a team I'll take my five over Oklahoma's five 9-10 ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Will Vick, Newman, Preston and Dok hang around to play with these newcomers? If 3 of the 4 do return, O Boy!

Think you can almost take it to the bank that - - Vick & Preston will not be back/ If Vick continues to progress through out the year, just don't think he will be back. Preston, I mean ya will him sitting out so long this year - -he could come back but - -will he? - -seriously doubt it

Newman? - -there is no way at this point is he ready for the NBA, - -BUT doesn't mean he will be back here.. I think if nothing else - -he goes over sea's and plays and see in a couple of years about testing the NBA.

Thinking Dok - -who knows. A couple of weeks ago I would of leaned more of him coming back, NOW with the way he has played the last 3 games looks like he is trending upwards in his progress I know we will here from people - - well none of these guys are even on projected draft boards. Hide and watch - -before it's said and done Vick's name will be there, actually YES it is on some projected boards already, I haven't looked myself but others have said he was.

As you know, we have heard the NBA drafts a lot off potential also. With Dok's physical presence there are a lot of NBA that would take a chance if he continues to improve that will take that chance , if nothing else because of his physical stature and potential. Dok is probably the most interesting out of these four I think.

The thing is even in I guess perfect scenario if you wanna call it that, there is no way ALL 4 of these guys would/could return, there just is not enough room available on the roster with the guys we have coming in and what we have returning. Just got to believe and he has made mention about how many we could be possibly be losing after this year - -but you just got to believe this was in the pitch when Coach Self was on the recruiting trail this year to some kind of degree anyways, I'm sure he was asked even a little about his thoughts on returning players from this squad. You just got to think possible this was brought pup when the recruitment of McCormack & De Sousa - - If they thought Dok was coming back it could of very well discouraged them with signing - - with him coming back and the Lawson's the front court is going to be deep. -- Both Lawson's - -De Sousa - -McCormick -- Lightfoot. - -There is a chance for Dok - -not saying there is not for sure.

I just think almost sure bets is Newman & Preston for sure will not be back - & Vick not to far behind that - - Dok is probably the best shot of any of the four coming back I think - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

@BeddieKU23 I just looked, Newman has only shot 11 free throws all season, and he is shooting 100% (11 for 11). Mason shot more than 11 free throws in a game at least 7 times last season.

This team as a whole is not getting to the line, I can't remember the stat now but has been mentioned several times which it should. I know that we are really low I think we are the lowest in the big 12 at free throw attempts.

Initially, I think Garrett is really deferring on offense. He's a freshman, he's not shooting well from 3, and we have other scorers. So he should. His defense last night was really good. In the first half, he was on the floor for our run when we stretched the lead. I saw someone comment something to the effect of, what use is it to have a good defender when your team isn't good one defense -- meaning, why have Garrett on the floor. The defense part is critical. What I didn't see from Garrett last night was aggressive rebounding. There were a couple of times he kind of stood there without attacking the glass.

I will say that I thought Cunliffe looked pretty good defensively last night, as well. I would be interested if anyone else thought that.

I noticed Newman really blocking out; maybe a coaching point heading in.

What almost puzzles me most about Newman is that the guy does not attack the rim. He rarely shoots free throws. He's got a quick first step. Seems like he should look to attack the rim much more than he does.

We only shot 18 three pointers last night. Makes me wonder.

The Self-speak on Preston continues to be entertaining. He finds new ways to say the same thing, which is really nothing.

Then on Silvio SammyDeSosa (per @wissox), Self injects the word "appeal" in the equation last night, saying the plan would be he could be here on the 26th, and then references and "appeal."

Here's what was stated at kusports.com - Self said he continued to believe the final word about De Sousa's eligibility at Kansas would come Friday — “We think by tomorrow,” he said — before adding, “Unless there's some hiccup and then we may have to appeal something, but we feel by tomorrow.”

I agree with you about Sam's defense. Looks to me the times I've seen when he is on the floor he is a pretty good defender. Seems to have pretty good footwork - -slides his feet really well.

Silvio is cleared! • Dec 24, 2017 01:24 AM

Just personal thinking, believe pretty safe bet Billy won't be on board for Texas so thinking maybe I'm thinking probably would be the week after Jan 6th might be his 1st game against Texas Tech , I just wish as I'm sure he does to that there could just be some closure and move on one way or the other. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Hinrich, the dog • Dec 23, 2017 06:29 PM

YA for sure, our dogs/pets do become just like family - spoil to a point. I had a little min-pin name of Shadow she was so cute,

Poor lil girl she jumped down off our couch and injured her spine and she lost the use of her back legs, she would just drag herself when she had to go do her chores we took her to the vet, he gave us some medication - she slowly recovered and I'll be dang if she didn't do it again.

Doctor came in the room - looked at her from across the room an said YEP back injury - -put her down, didn't even try. - We would allow them to do that She needed surgery unlike quite a few people - -hell maybe even here - -I'm just not in a position financially to have the surgery done.

So we checked around found a refuge - -a no kill center especially for min pins - - like a foster home , they would take care of her, look out after her an possibly someone would adopt them, - -she was a very lucky lil girl, a family adopted her could afford to have the surgery, she is good to go now. - Lives out in the country on a 5 acre place - has a little partner to play with, they built some stairs she goes up and down on - -sleeps with them - great care for her. - I'm so glad - I am still hurt that there wasn't anything WE could do to keep her, but at least she wasn't but down

Miss her terribly, sorry I got carried away about my little buddy This is about someone's little partner sorry. - - Anyways bottom line I'm so sorry for the loss of your lil buddy. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
