Little bummed this morning. - -I know Les will have a good class - - just 2-3 that had early committed afraid now we done lost them. - -Was really looking forward to have Coleman - - & Scott NOW looking pretty glum about thosetwo , Scot now not signing till late-- Coleman think he is just plain gone. - -Then the other was Clayton , thought we could get him to flip, with him and Pooka being such good friends - he committed to Colorado , now not signing until late.

Some think he is going to end up at LSU - -I don't think so , with everything being said there. Him stating that he was leaving Louisiana for the last time how he had enjoyed living there , Don't think he ends up at Colorado either - -I still think he could very well land at Georgia. - They have had a couple early commit but hearing still an option.

Guess we hit the ground running and work hard, these guys will start to see were not such a bad place to come to after all - -Bottom line it's got to happen on the field to get this going, got to start showing progress - -we put up W'S - people start taking notice. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Hmm lol - -Hey Farmer you think Coach is wanting a certain someone to see the pic. - -I didn't see but was talked about on our local sports radio talk show - - There was a pic of Coach miles the day before early signing period - -A pic of Coach Miles and Pooka Williams snow sledding down the Hill on the KU campus lol

Miles - - - - Pooka ( which we know is really good friends ) - - equals - - - Clayton lmao - boy am I dreaming

We’ve got a shot! He’s not signing tomorrow. Start hoping Zach Evans ends up at LSU or they could snatch Clayton in an instant.

well that's disappointing that he isn't signing tomorrow, that makes me feel not very confident at all - - was hoping we could flip him and get that signature tomorrow

One thing to keep in mind is Les and co. know what they’re doing in big game hunting. Last February case in point

ya I know. Just want this kid really bad, have to face reality though probably. - -I'm sure les will do just fine

KU First in Conference in 3pt % • Dec 17, 2019 08:33 PM

You figure were hitting that in Conference in 3 point and were 2nd in the Nation at 52.9 % fg overall - -Doke is shooting 83 % from the filed. - - Our 3 pt is right at 50th in the Nation so ya we doing ok

KirkIsMyHinrich said:

@BeddieKU23 This ranks 57, 77, 108, 137, 147, 180, 189, 223, 238, and 293 out of 353 teams. I don't know, I think our conference just sucks at shooting 3-pointers. That's probably good news for us.

ya, you think our conference is shooting bad - -and nothing great for sure. - -However the All mighty N Carolina is shoot at like 29.8 % - now THAT'S BAD

jhawk7782 said:

@jayballer73 I've asked enough dumb things and this may be near the top but doesn't CBS use the ap poll? I also thought that the coach's poll and ESPN's were the same.

And let's be real. What does being ranked #1 mean before conference play even mean? I like to see us at #1 and it is a sign of recognition for KU's early success but don't get too excited.

PS: There are bad/dumb questions. Ask anyone who ever taught middle school.

no - - not dumb question by any means and I'm not really even sure. -- I do know that the AP & the Coach's poll are listed together on the ESPN site - -but often can and do differ on where a team is ranked.

I do not think CBs and the AP coordinate together because they too have differences in their rankings - -I think even USA today is a separate vote , but wouldn't swear to that. - I jus tdon't freak out that much about rankings during the regular season. - - Sounds good but about all it does. - -I'm perfectly happy to be anywhere in the top 5 which we do on quite the regular bases - Being # 1 at the END is a lot more sweet lol

nuleafjhawk said:

@jhawk7782 I think he was just saying to coach the "Bigs", not be THE coach. If I read it right, I would get on a plane, rent me a car with a lot of legroom and drive Danny back to Lawrence on my own dime.

If not, then I'm with you - I don't want him as our head coach.

yes your right bud. - Was talking in the aspect of just Coaching/working with our big's - -& again like you not sure I'd want him as a HEAD Coach as much as I like Danny there would be better for sure

HighEliteMajor said:

I would definitely welcome him back. But if I'm Manning, I would not come back to KU as an assistant. Manning is 53. Why be an assistant? He could get a head job somewhere pretty easily.

ya, that's what I'm thinking too. - -just dreamin - -I would love for him to come back and work with our big's again - but like you said he has already Coached at a Couple of Schools now - -Wake & then who was it? - -Tulsa or Oral Roberts -- Think Tulsa I know he loves KU but just really don't think he would come back in an asst roll

AsadZ said:

If it was me I would not replace any coach during the season to avoid discontinuity but bring him back in some capacity.

Agree I'm sure Danny will finish this year, but IF he were to get fired by Wake at the end of the Season - -then brig him back next season to work with the big men. - -I know he is not on real solid ground at Wake

jhawk7782 said:

@jayballer73 I don't think so. Just isn't ready...if ever.
I know he won't be the popular choice but he has more than proved himself.

Mark Turgeon

No , I'm not talking about being the head Coach - - I'm talking about Danny working with our Big men like he had previous while he was on staff here

Crimsonorblue22 said:

Norm coaches the bigs. I've heard forever, we do the exact same drills that Danny taught, and we've had pretty good success. I love Danny.

ya Danny was really good. - -I just thought well actually have heard others bring it up before - - IF Danny got canned from Wake Forest which sadly I think is a very good possibility - would we bring him on and let someone go?

Curious guys, and wondering what others think, - -So IF and again it's a IF but if Danny were to be fired at Wake , would you open your arms for him to come back and Coach our Big's ?

I myself would in a split second. - Question being though IF that were to happened who would he replace? - The bigger question would be after Danny being a head Coach himself for some time would he ever consider coming back for a position Coaching Big's ?

I loved it when he was here Coaching our Big guys - -let me hear you my Crimson & Blue. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Pretty easy to see why North Carolina has dropped out of the top 25.

The numbers don't lie - -pretty ugly: - - Only scoring 68.4 per game - - - 39.8 fg % - - - 63.2 ft % - -& - - 28.7 % - -three point shooting. - - Not going to win to many games with those kind of numbers - - lost 4 out of there last 5

Ahh ok , thanks for helping out. -- I'm telling you my memory is getting really bad lol. That's what happens when you get old. Kinda of remember that now that you reminded me, I was actually kind of worrying about if we lost again falling completely out of the top 25 and ending that streak. - -Good looking out my friend. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

I'd rather be a team that is #1 periodically, becoming a target etc, than be a team that was never #1. Notoriety helps with recruiting and overall school rep.

People here forget what it was like in the mid 70's to early 80's, when it was exciting to get into the top 10. 345 schools or so would be thrilled to worry about how "meaningful" it is. It is no guarantee of any season result, but it is fun to know that you are perceived as good, and by many, as the best.

Does it matter in the long run? Of course not, but so what?

I really don't think KU has any problem recruiting even not being number 1. - -like I said as long as we stay in the top 5 which we have pretty consistency kids are gonna know who we are. - -I don't have a problem with being # 1 don't get me wrong - - it's just that I think a lot of people make TO MUCH out of being # 1 during the regular season.

As far as forgetting about the 70's & 80's - umm that wouldn't be me I was right there - -lean times with Teddy - great recruiter couldn't coach with a dam - lots of empty seats for a spell - was a struggle

I think we look at the rankings in a distorted view. The sports media loves the rankings because it helps promote the games they are going to broadcast. You know the sales pitch, “Saturday at 3:30 #1 versus # 15 only on ESPN. The fans love it because we can go around touting our team. Think about it? How many times have we fans found our selves using the “Hey #1 in the nation” card?

The reality is you can just about take the top 10 in any year and swap them out in the rankings.

For me I think achieving the #1 ranking is a reward and a test for the players. Sometimes we forget they are just kids. They love the #1 ranking. Its an achievement so few get to experience. It’s a reward for the effort these kids put into their craft. It is also a test of their mindset, their spirit. Being ranked #1 comes with a big old bulls eye. No longer can you just go out and play. All eyes are on you. No longer is a win just a win. It’s how many points did you win by, what was the quality of the opponent. How many times have we seen a team grab the golden ring of #1, only to go out and lose their next game.

In conclusion I’d say College basketball rankings in the grand scheme of things really mean nothing on the court, but in the minds of the kids and the wallets of those that make money. It means everything.

I agree with you pretty much 100 %. - - The one thing is , we ( KU ) has a bulls eye on them anywhere they go - - -everywhere they go doesn't matter if were ranked # 1 or not. - for a lot of teams we ARE their game of the year. We have that bulls eyes because we have been ranked in the upperside for so long - -for so many years. Other teams recognize us upper echelon a blue blood. Being # 1 doesn't matter as much for us to other teams - - it's KU , same goes for Kentucky - - N Carolina -- Duke - -other teams will always get jacked up for us.

We play at other places normal 1/4 full or 1/2 full and it's a sell out. - Your right though for sure ESPN makes a lot more out of these then others

Pssst Farmer , Cotton Pick Shaad is killing me buddy. - -Straight up, what's your gut telling you with our boy? - He just flat out teasin

He was at it again last night , I'm sure you have seen it. - -Tweeted out and retweeted by Jay Hawk slant: 4 pictures of him with Pooka, and said: Like my mammas child , we just mud brother # The Magic Show @ Pooka Williams Jr ? - - WHY buddy lol WHY ?

Why would he keep doing things like this? -- We know he and Pooka are really tight - he made comments like couldn't wait to make a trip to Kansas in December. Man I've just got to believe that Shaad has something up his sleeve - -ya think? -

Ya know Dearman keeps tweeting about a surprise , a lot of people said they could see Shaad pulling some kind of surprise on signing day. - there HAS to be something right? - -I don't know buddy I'm just getting this feeling that he might flip - -or that feeling could just be my belly telling me time to eat lol - - what you think?

Crimsonorblue22 said:

Everyone wants to be first in the end! Nobody cares or remembers the rankings, it's just an honor, for now. Maybe we fight harder to keep it? Maybe recruits think it's cool? I'd rather be higher than lower. Let's see how we respond. We've always had a target, maybe this group will be tougher.

let's hope we fight harder. - - For me, the way I look at it is , in the regular season a long as we remain in the top 5 , I'm good. - just doesn't make that big of difference unless like I said for a little chest thumping

I think I can say pretty confident, remember seeing it sometime back that we led the Nation for being ranked in the top 10 consectutive weeks in a row -- same went for the Top 25 - just an insane number. - Now that shows consistency, being # 1,2,3 in the nation in the regular Season - -just doesn't have that or do that much in the long run.

I saw well at least in CBS poll, that N Carolina is not in the top 25 - - when is the last time you saw that happen? - -I think this year is just going to be one wild huge crap shoot

Well , we are now # 1 in the Nation, At least that's what CBS has us , haven't seen the ESPN AP or Coach's poll yet.

Here is the thing for me , and I mean this in all sincerity. It really wouldn't bother me if we weren't # 1 - -actually wouldn't really bother me if we were NEVER # 1 in the Nation during the regular Season.

The reason ? - -Because actually in the long run being ranked # 1 during the Season isn't really all that, oh sure for the fans they like to stick their chest out and HEY look were # 1 in the Nation , boasting & strutting - getting all full of themselves. I mean looks good - - sounds good, but other then that it really doesn't amount to squat. - -Oh sure ya might even get you the overall # 1 seed in the NCAA tourney , but in reality - -you can still get beat on any given day , especially the way things are playing out this year. We all know KU'S history of the early round exits in the NCAA tourney - -even being the overall # 1 might not change that.

If you were to ask the Coach's - -the players how they felt , oh ya sure they would say ya it's cool , why not be # 1, BUT in the over all grand Scheme of things if you ask what is their goal for the Season? - - you can take it to the bank their response is going to be that they would much rather be #1 at the END of the year - and the NCAA Championship, would take that in a New York minute over being ranked # 1 during the Season. - How does it sound if your in a conversation and someone spouts off and says - - we wee Ranked # 1 during the Season - -or we were ranked # 1 throughout the whole year - and they respond ya? - - So tell me again who won the NCAA Trophy? -did your # 1 ranking get you the Championship? - -just think really not even close between the two - -regular season being ranked # 1 OR being ranked # 1 at the end with a NCAA trophy in hand. - -that's just me I know probably in minority but it's ok

Yessir. Trying to get to 4 wins instead of 2, which would be a total momentum killer. The 2021 class has a good chance at getting to top 30 if we make more on-field progress. And any QB on the roster now isn’t ready to get us there.

thanks , pretty much what I thought. I know there are a lot that don't want to use a Scholi on a one year deal, Yet if this guy could come in get us those 4 - -hell maybe even 5 wins this year would be a HUGE step. - - Instead of 2 like you said just a killer.

Like I said somewhere else also who knows - -he comes in has some success might make other better higher profile QB's take another look at us - -better talented QB's. - mean yes I realize we have other problems , like our line on both sides of the ball, BUT our QB situation just seems to be a real sore. The guy has a cannon of a arm, no problem getting the ball down field. Started at a high major P- 5 School. - -just feel we have to take this chance IF we can get him to commit here

Well my Boys Beat Da Bears today - - -AGAIN. - -having said that , I'll say this again as a Packer fan - -Green Bay is the MOST Unimpressive 11-3 team I have ever seen. would not surprise me at all if we get knocked out in the 1st round of the playoffs at all.

I mean it's like these guys go comatose after their fist couple of drives of the game - - - Aaron has looked very average practically all year. - Throws the ball when he shouldn't not completing nearly as much - -then turn arounds and hangs on to the ball to long tries to make that super play instead of taking the simple route & ends up getting sacked and taking us out of scoring opportunities.

Wouldn't surprise me at all - -they haven't won comfortably ALL YEAR. - -just like today jumped up 21-3 midway through the 3rd quarter and had to hang on for dear life - pretty disappointing.

Great time. Obviously need to go to Allen for the "full experience" but for my first game I was extremely happy with it. Kid sitting in front of me probably 18 or so didnt watch 3 minutes of the game, sat their Instagraming and texting. Had the nerve to wear a KU hat and shirt but you would never know he was actually a fan. I live so far from KU so I would never take for granted the opportunity to see them.

Dave was amazing. Game of his life.

Dotson is as fast as he appears on tv. Wow what a blur.

Ochai really didnt bring it today. He has all the tools. Didnt shoot well in pregame.

Moss has a great shot, no wonder he makes em.

Doke is just a large human. Loved seeing him up close before the game.

Marcus is such a savy defender. Always moving those feet.

Silvio is a while away but I hope he sticks around.

It’s looking that way. He hasn’t visited anywhere else and I don’t know if he will. I don’t love using a counter on a grad transfer but my goodness do we need a QB.

Agreed, not really big on just having this guy for one year. But like you say we need a QB in the worst way.- -Then as I know you have seen , you have the people saying what we get in one year from him - -go from 2 wins to 3 wins? - -plus saying no matter if the O=line sucks not going to make any difference.

Yet like others have said which I agree with on this he was the starting QB at Florida - -we've never had anything like that, - -plus you know - - - who knows my friend , say he does come and play for the one year - -got an absolute Cannon for an arm - -he comes in maybe able to ultulize our receivers even more - -maybe gets us 4-5 wins - -might just be what we need to get better QB's looking at us a little more seriously. He MIGHT be just what we need to get that door open to attract higher quality talent at the QB spot who knows. -- I think I'd be willing to take that chance.

Broke down the Schools as far as KU , he said they know they are losing Doke , looing for that replacement and play Defense like him and defend the rim. - -we will see. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

I have to disagree. You can play great defense vs. a drive by sagging off multiple feet. Gives significant time to react. Marcus would be a very easy guy to guard. Sag off and shade his right hand. Marcus just picks his spots and that's when he scores which is absolutely fine. Perhaps I'm missing something but I see a guy whose only threat offensively is driving to this right.

You can. And that is what happened last year. But I'll offer one reason why it isn't working the same this season.

Doke.

As Dragon mentioned, if you sag you cannot pressure the feed into the post. So you give Garrett a free lane to throw it in to Doke this way. (And to Big Dave to a lesser extent).

If you sag too far off, you give Garrett room to create on the drive. If you get too close he'll blow by you. Sure he is picking spots. But everyone does in a Bill Self offense. And yes he's easier to defend than Dotson or Ochai or Moss. That's obvious. But that isn't what I'm trying to say.

Compared to the Garrett of a season ago, he's been significantly more of an offensive threat. My eyes told me this, and the numbers seem to back that statement up.

me too -- I think it's just different this year - -we have Moss - -We have Doke, makes a big difference

Maybe, but I STILL just have to say this with the make up of this roster that we have this year , I just don't see it - - I don't see how having Marcus in the line up playing major quality minutes is going to be the difference between us winning or getting to a final four.

With the one's he plays with most the time Dotson - - -Moss - - - Ochaji - -& Doke I just can't and haven't seen it where it hurts us to the degree where we have to take him out. - -The way we are spacing the floor with those four plus Doke - -taking away his defense when he is on the floor out weighs having him on the floor, -Last year we didn't have Moss we didn't have Doke for most the Season last year just a whole different mix this year

@jayballer73 I got to see Nino Samuel play on a regular basis when he was in High School. I was in 6th or 7th grade or so and if I remember, Nino was about 6'5" and looked like Mr Universe. And oh my goodness, the fellow could JUMP. I was disappointed that he didn't turn out to be the next Michael Jordan, but he sure seemed like it in High School.

yes sir , you hit it spot on if I remember correctly he was a guy right at 6'5 - -6'6 - and the kid was built like a brick outhouse without a brick missing. - -Really thick , and again your right he just didn't do really a lot in college, think just a case where he didn't develop - and mercy the dude could jump out of the Gym for sure. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

I've always been a Marcus backer/fan. -Have caught a lot of flack for it All the talk about how he hurts us , on the offensive end , how teams can slack off Marcus , and to be honest ya that's probably true - -he had flashes of being able to shoot a little better , kind of vanished some now BUT

I just don't think you can put a value on what this kid does on the defensive end of the floor. - -By far the best defensive player we have , hands down. Marcus has been given the job of defending usually the other teams best offensive threat and usually getting it done well.

Marcus can rebound the ball, excellent defense 90% of the time an can drive the ball. I just think the way this team is made up , this what he lacks on the offensive end doesn't stick out as much with the other players we have. Marcus means a lot to this team , with what he can bring - so smooth on the defensive end , quick -I am behind him 100 %
