Same reason I advocated for Yes at the 1. He’s shown a volume shooter 2 at drake yet has all the tools to play pg and distribute well.

Bill favoring Juan will hold us every year he is here. Juan’s a great kid but not starting KU level guard.

He hit some running 1 handers yesterday and played some great off ball defense but his handle is so lose just watch him. When someone picks him up full court he palms it terribly and we initiate the offense 35 feet from the basket just horrible. Everyone was taught in high school that isn’t gonna work.

Ever since I came here stating Self completely mismanaged this roster and isn’t getting the most out of the team you and bshark and a few others just berated me.

I didn’t kneel at the alter of self because I’ve seen him do this before ....system players he trusts over the better player.

I said Remy came in and yes, he’s not good defensively but he scores to make up for it. Self decided he was gonna help his game by making him pass and trying to only focus on defense literally stripping any though of offensive game. Definite screw up. I mean remy was what all American and pac 12 player of the year twice and he comes here and looks baaaddddd (prior to injury).

I’ve said Joe showed his ceiling against the same USC team our guards couldn’t even get a shot off and were scared as crap. Oh no, it’s drake, he didn’t start, reports he’s not picking things up, blah blah.

Feel free to outline where in old posts you advocated for Remy being coached better and Joe playing over Harris.

You add a freak athlete you reap the rewards when you instill confidence and he knows there is no quick yank due to 1 mistake.

Also - I agree.......healthy Remy and Joe should start and Dave or Wilson is 6th man. If not then Harris and Joe.

@jayballer67 correct - Remy can score better when healthy and that’s about it. Everything else Joe is actually better at

@BeddieKU23 Self has a very likeable dry sense of humor if you ever spend just minimal time with him away from the court he’s funny

@BeddieKU23 you nailed it and the easiest way is to think about it on the defensive end.

As you said Braun, harris and hurt remy can’t get their head and shoulders by guys to actually get to the rim. This hurts our offense.

On D we aren’t quick enough to stop dribble penetration and other teams guards are constantly getting in the paint which opens up for dump offs and kick outs.

Lateral quickness is one of the most important athletic traits for this sport. Quickness/speed kills.

That’s why I always found it comical how people would gush about Reed as an athlete (not that he wasn’t) but he literally just stood and chucked threes 95% of his games. He never once looked to drive because he wasn’t quick enough.

Compare that versus Tyshawn who could literally get anywhere he wants. Joe’s similar in that ability he honestly reminds me of tyreek with his build and athleticism

@benshawks08 yeah I agree but with Wilson pushing the pace it’s nice that’s why I said heck play him at the 5. He, och, yes and Braun can rebound and we only lose rebounding on the offensive end when Dave’s out.

Och and Braun can score hard to sit them like you said.

Only time that’s ever been done is the Grinnell offense look them up. William Chrisman then copied this and it worked when they had athletes.

Full court press, shoot a ton of threes and hockey line changes.

I think you play in the flow and Yes has to play more. Until Remy is healthy and even when he is so far Yes has show way more defensively just needs to get his shot to fall.

@BeddieKU23 the defense and speed has always been there that’s why I can’t fathom how Self didn’t play him. That is normally what gets you on the floor first as it’s not scoring that Self cares about

I’ll never be HEM not enough time to do all that digging. He’s more of a stat guy I just rely on my eyes and past experience.

I think Och with attacking guards in Harris and Joe when pushing the pace out in transition will only elevate his game. Och has learned to drive and finish get that man out on the break all game long. He’s already hit enough pull up transition threes to know that’s a good shot.

Bill as always needs to loosen the reigns. There’s a happy medium of winning 75-69 versus the 44-42 slugfests he somehow enjoys (just awful basketball truthfully) and the 90-88 Roy ball where all we did was fast break with bad defense.

@rockchalkwyo you and 75% of jayhawk nation that actually acknowledges Self is human and even though he sees it all can still sometimes not play the players that give us the best chance to reach our ceiling and win

I took that more as kudos going around to most of the guys who played because that was a huge win in a tough environment

@Kcmatt7 correct Pettiford didn’t show us anything last night and you can’t with an abdominal strain. He needs to be done for the year.

Harris and Joe need to play the majority of the minutes. If Remy can get healthy he definitely cuts into Joe’s time depending on performance.

Whoever isn’t solid between Wilson or Braun is who needs to have their minutes cut which varies each night. Both are pretty identical players granted Braun is the better scorer with Wilson somehow not knowing how to shoot this year.

Big Dave has to play then Kj after that then Mitch sparingly. I will say at least Mitch has a little right hook these days that KJ doesn’t have but hopefully KJ can just turn and dunk!

Huge win - best defensive game we’ve played all year....wonder why that was?

It’s frustrating coach has to get lineups right and play the right guys. That’s what he’s paid to do and is a hall of famer. He’s messed it up back to HEM days and well before that.

Just frustrated because it stunts our growth and we are trying to “figure it out” each February.

When the coach admits maybe I was playing the wrong guys that’s pathetic.

Can you fathom is Kerr, Saban or Reid actually said that?

You can be happy for the win but his job is to play the right guys and have the team at the best it can be. This game revealed what many talk about.

Positives and negatives....dont worry I’m grinning ear to ear from just crushing the cyclones dreams for 2022 but doesn’t mean it removes the big picture and massive coaching failure (yes, you can be 18-3 but if you ask yourself am I playing the right players at that point...well I don’t need to explain).

We are best in transition Och included layups and transition threes.
Half court isn’t our best unless it’s Bill’s out of bounds or backdoor lobs. Stuff to Dave doesn’t work let’s get out and run but Bill’s gotta relax his system to his players and if we win 79-77 he’s gotta enjoy the W that’s the goal right?

Play him Bill let him grow instill confidence in him. Be hard on him when he messes up but man push him when he gets it......if only we can see practice and the mental games

Now what will happen is if Joe plays way less minutes with Ochai back I’ll be disappointed because 2 guards won us that game it helped transition and then Dave tremendously. Most efficient game when two guards (one who always attacks had he had a leash and another who needs to attack more - Harris - played great)

Self needs to quit trying to break guys mentally and work on building them up to be the best player they can be and let them excel at what they do best in his system.

Trying to completely change a guy to fit what you think he is never works. Take the 80% he does well and improve it....the 20% he stinks at you won’t change gotta live with
