We finally fell from our lofty perch, which was inevitable. Sad, but this is sports.

Also inevitable is the chorus of bitter and negative comments about the players, the season, the recruiting, the coaching, and the attacks exchanged among Board Rats. The endless "if only"s and the snide dismissing of anyone who doesn't agree that the world is ending and that Self/Vick/ Moore/Lawson/Morningstar/etc are responsible for the end of all pride related to KU. The threads I just read show the trashing has already begun.

This year, I have decided life is too short to go through the usual crap as the board descends into endless speculation and cynicism.

I have so many better things to do while I wear the Crimson and Blue holding my head high. I hope the usual doesn't happen here, but I see the usual suspects are formimg the usual mob with the usual torches and chanting. It is too much for me and way too distracting from what I enjoy about KU basketball.

So, goodbye for now! I do hope you all find a way to happiness as fans. Thanks for the fun stuff and good luck to all!

@Kubie Try turning wifi off when you need to go on the data network if you haven't done that yet. My Samsung hangs like crazy when I switch and then seems to wake up if I go ahead and turn off wifi. (Neat thing about this is you can try it anywhere.)

For all of our whining about their focus on Zion, he is one of the most amazing college players I have ever seen. Let's face it: We gripe so much that, if he were at KU, and if they gave him the same level of attention as they do now, we would probably still complain that ESPN was not giving us our due.

So, this past corruption criminal activity involved schools using middlemen to get athletes allegedly by paying the parents to accept a scholarship for their kids.

This new corruption involves parents paying middlemen to get schools to accept non-athletes as if they were athletes.

Maybe Lori Loughlin paid $500,000 to get her kids into an athletic program at USC because of all that shoe money floating around?

@dylans I remember that quote. I always thought it was Self's way of deflecting credit for the streak from himself to the players. Interesting twist you have suggested.

@jayballer73 Any coach trying to "prove something" by moving to the NBA at this late stage in a college career would be the insane one. Self's coaching strategies don't really seem to develop lots of NBA stars. Currently, it is a star-driven league with isolation offense dominating, not something we have seen at KU except with Frank, perhaps. Why would he risk being a failure?

@HighEliteMajor Actually, it makes a lot of sense. As I recall, the only testimony that was admitted by the judge in the trial was that KU/Self did NOT know about the payments. Filing the claim buttresses KU's position (rogue booster, at worst) before the NCAA, which could well be hard-pressed to use some testimony to establish "boosterness" while disregarding other unrebutted testimony disconnecting KU from money.

All the suspicions notwithstanding, it is a strong move.

Probably no lawsuit since they will be paying him 8 or 9 figures in a few months anyway (assuming not now). But I maybe, just maybe, would be ever-so-slightly hesitant if I was the Nike rep and learned that Zion asked for a private meeting....
