@FarmerJayhawk I am thinking the antitrust case lies with schools and conferences who are restricted from playing teams, etc.
The hammer the NCAA has is its rule that disallows its members from playing suspended members. Ultimately, they could suspend (or threaten to suspend) California schools that pay any athletes, and then threaten all the other schools in the Pac12 and other conferences that have Cal schools.
If you recall, the NCAA was sued under antitrust laws in the late 70's or early 80's by the NIT. That suit was based on a restraint of trade theory challenging the NCAA's rule requiring any team invited to the NCAA tournament to particpate in the NCAA tourney only (you couldn't turn it down and then go to the NIT, for example). That rule, adopted in the 50's or '60s, was adopted because some schools wanted to go to the more prestigious NIT and that hurt the NCAA tourney's attractiveness.
The rule prohibiting schools from playing suspended schools was adopted after Kentucky was given a one year suspension for the gambling stuff involving their star players in (?) 1949 or 50. Kentucky had thumbed its nose at the NCAA and scheduled games despite the suspension, but had to back down when other schools got scared off by the new NCAA edict.
This Calif law could lead to a fascinating lawsuit under antitrust laws. It certainly won't be settled the way the NIT case was settled--the NCAA simply bought that tournament, mooting the case.
@jayballer73 They may have simply assumed when their network feed got switched because of the power problem.
Tyreek update: Trainer says his shoulder injury led to a problem in his sternum. In the hospital getting treated by an "ortho trauma" physician. Chiefs to update in a day or so.
@jayballer73 It wasn't pulled. The CBS production truck lost power. NFL Network Redzone explained that no broadcast feed was coming from Jax, so they didn't have any highlights in the last few mins of the 4th quarter.
@kjayhawks Antonio Brown is fully capable of stopping himself!
I hope everyone calms down a bit. We all knew KU would be bad until Miles' recruiting is seriously established. People have gone from "probably 0-12" to expecting rapid improvement. A comeback victory last week got everyone thinking, "Just maybe..."
No, maybe not. Be patient. If you are really upset, perhaps the expectations are too high.
@jayballer73 Not a fair comparison. KU doesn't get to draft players!
Nonstop since he married Phoebe Cates.
@Marco Kevin Kline became Judge Reinhold.
I'm going to guess that without Frank there to show everyone what hard work can do, he saw no reason to stick with the Kings.
@FarmerJayhawk You dry?
@KUSTEVE Wat yoeu talcing abowt? I fer wone donte gett kno redd liynes onn spel misteaks!
@BeddieKU23 The penalty and denial of the appeal seem like they are based on disbelief of their own finding that the staff didn't know about it.
@FarmerJayhawk We have three different friends who went to different SC beaches and got evacuated immediately. Better safe than sorry! Good luck to your friends.
@FarmerJayhawk Where are you, anyway? We are in SC (Columbia) and it looks like we will get a little rain is all. The coast in both Carolinas looks like it will be getting smacked for the 3rd year running, and we in Columbia got whacked in '15 also with the monster flood.
Good luck if you are close to the coast!
Our son was sitting with a few guys on a friend's front porch after HS graduation. Raised his beer can to salute a Sheriff's deputy when he was driving by. Sigh....
2 of them today
@wissox But here's a problem, no one can really agree with you because we don't know her!
@Texas-Hawk-10 Same percentage, though! Sorry, couldn't resist.
Does anyone understand what the long review was?
Sosinski sighting! (pls forgive if one occurred in 1st half)
@jayballer73 We played UCLA in the consolation game (3rd) in 1974. IIRC, Bill Walton thought it was dumb to have that game, but played enough to make it not a close contest.

@KUSTEVE - Billy Preston
Heck, if we expand to someone who never played, just go with Billy's Mom as a starter on the All-Clown squad!
@Crimsonorblue22 Yikes, so they escape a Florida hurricane by going to a flood in the Great Plains!
Pollard is on my list of favorite 3 point shooters.
@Crimsonorblue22 Could have been someone hit by their own richochet...
BRADY!
@Crimsonorblue22 That chart just invites creativity in trying to figure out how some of those injuries happen. 6 concussions in golf combined?
@tis4tim I tried in vain to remember if it was in any vocabulary lessons in high school. I remember "angst" and "dystopia"--I even remember "antidisestabishmentarianism"--but not that one!
@RockChalkinTexas I hadn't seen that one yet. Thx for the heads up!
@nuleafjhawk "I really do try hard to put myself in other’s shoes."
Lee Child (Jack Reacher books) had Jack telling a joke his older brother used to say, which was something like this:
Never criticize a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes. Then, when he gets mad, you will be a mile away and without shoes he won't be able to run after you anyway.
@nuleafjhawk I understand your feelings, because we are both diehard fans--we can't imagine switching! But we also have to remember she came to KU to take a new job. She isn't an alum, and her tenure has been purely as a coach doing a job. That doesn't create the type of school loyalty found in those of us who have been fans since grade school, or who attended at the beginning of adulthood while experiencing all the fun and passion college entails. People abandoning lifelong school loyalty I don't get, but people taking good opportunities I do.
So, instead of "Don't let the door..." I would say, "Thanks for giving us such great years. We will remember you fondly." Sounds like your eventual feeling about Roy.
@justanotherfan Simply put, Brandon let himself get upset and distracted. Which is similar to saying he got in the way of his own success. Tim kept his eye on the prize. Another way of saying don't waste time on things you can't change, or, to put it more concisely, move on.
Non Illegitimis Carborundum Est: Don't let the bastards wear you down.
@dylans I think the comment about being a role model for young women is due to Hudy breaking down people's stereotypes about s & c coaches. No one ever doubted that men can be those coaches, but she no doubt brought attention to women that these jobs can be sought by them.
Unless you were familiar with Hudy at UConn, how many of us KU fans even considered that the basketball s&c job might be filled with a woman?
Let's merge the two discussions in this thread: Maybe Les talks better with a beer.
@BeddieKU23 It’s going to minimize how many effective 4 out teams there are.
It will also make any defense trying to double in the post work much harder to get back to 3 pt defense. If an offense has players capable of making the longer shot, I think 4-out teams continue to run defenses ragged if they try, like us, to continually switch from post to outside.
I just don't ever again want to see our bigs 10 ft from both the post and the shooter, sitting in No Man's Land watching shots arc over their heads, and not being in rebounding position because they were lunging outside, either!
@dylans We are grateful you aren't a fan of a closer team to you. It would be Shockering, to say the least.
I would guess we could accept you being a fan of the NWOSU Rangers in Enid.
@Gorilla72 I live in SC now. Left KU in 78 for UMichigan Law, and moved from KC to DC area in 1981. I never adopted my father's fandom philosophy, thank goodness! Proud KC fan all the way. My last game at Royals Stadium was when Cal Ripkin was making his farewell tour. Gonna get back to AFH (1979!) this coming year, I hope!
@KUSTEVE My dad alway believed that it was a law of nature that you had to be a fan of a team where you lived. Never understood that myself. But you never decided to a Tampa Bay fan?
After the Royals, I do enjoy the Astros the most, even tho they are in the wrong league.
@wissox Precisely! That, and, a multi-media class with lots of those PSA's in the 80's showing the frying egg, with the narration "This is your brain on drugs." Maybe Reefer Madness for comic relief?
Well, you can let kids avoid college altogether, but that can seriously hamper them later. Maybe schools can work with education specialists (and the certifiers, to avoid being like UNC).
Schools could, for example, create 1 and 2 year certificate programs that actually give them help in transitioning to adulthood, with classes in modern communications, math, basic financials and insurance, life planning, health, etc. Make them available to the regular student population as part of major requirements. Set them up as attractive alternatives for players who think they are OADs and TADs, so they have some practical benefit from going to college. And if they end up having a reason to stay, they can still progress toward more.
Enrolling 1-year kids in classes that are just designed for traditional 4-year students does no one any good.
@Crimsonorblue22 That is awful! I rigged up a large ShopVac once, plus a small drill operated pump, to empty the water out of my flooding cellar when the local stores had sold out of sump pumps. Had to break out a window and run three vac hoses to get the water out over the cellar walls.
Hope your son's house has been emptied by easier means.!

Title IX depends on shoe money. Women's sports would not exist without shoe money.
Neither would craps, if you listen to the number of rollers praying for Baby to get a "new pair of shoes."
@jayballer73 Hopefully, the Jayhawks in the upcoming months will provide an ever-increasing level of distraction for you! Good luck!

All I want to know is WHY he lost his mind. Did they screw up his order?
Perhaps they asked if he was applying to be their short order cook.
@bcjayhawk @wissox Thanks for the kind words! I have read the site when I could, and I have enjoyed watching the atmosphere return to a more collegial one.
It wasn't the dark outlook for the team that drew me away--but the optimistic turn in our recruiting sure seems to have awakened a lot of comaraderie! Nice to see!
Optimistic except for that one NCAA cloud with hovering nearby, of course. Well, when a storm cloud approaches, turn the other way, I say!
Hey, this is fun again! I need to play here more often. To you guys, and all my friends here, just help me avoid getting caught in silly cross-currents, ok?
Some things just demand logging in!
I am just wondering if it is his height that he really thinks keeps women from being attracted to him.
He fantasizes a whole chorus of conflicted hotties thinking, "Gosh, he is SO sweet, so pleasant to talk to! Great sense of humor, dignified--I bet he has money, too! And that SMILE!!! Gosh, EVERYTHING going for him...but oh, wow, he is only 5 feet tall. Okay, where's that tall ex-con with the MS13 tats?"
Personality vs. height--hmmm, what could keep the babes from flocking around him?
Sorry, I need something to amuse me this summer!

I had to log in for this! I am in Hawaii (please, no tears, we will get through it!) and saw a blue Duke Tshirt with a big "2019 ACC Tounament Champions" banner.
I figure he had a full set of postseason Tshirts in mind, and ended up with just the one!
Bye again for now, and kudos to all of you sharing so much good info. Good luck to the KU free agents!
