@wissox Why watch if you believe it is fixed? I watched that same sequence and saw T Tech stop playing the way they started. They began making stupid fouls, dribbling blindly, and shooting bad shots. But my eyeballs must have relocated to Philly.
@Blown We had a 10% chance of rain two days ago and got drenched on our long walk.
@Blown Now that is a term which, also out of respect, I only use for people who have worked mightily to earn it. Who am I to thwart their lifelong endeavors?
@jaybate-1-0 I hesitate, but can't resist the overwhelming temptation, to point out that you could have renamed this thread "Dueling Phalluses: The Squid vs Squeaky" for even more fun.
@Gunman Kenny Smith said KU last night. Instinctive reaction by a Tar Heel though.
3 wins or he is gone. Oh, wait, this is about Beatty? I thought people were talking about being impatient for Self to get another NC!
I thoroughly enjoyed it. Like having a fun exchange in a bar! Makes you realize there is excitement and fun everywhere, and how much people's emotions overwhelm their cognition!
@Crimsonorblue22 I can't hide my lyin' eyes!
@wissox I received an explosive response once from a guy who had, after a 20 year relationship, finally married my friend's mother 6 months before she died (my friend was 43 when they finally married). I had referred to him as a "stepfather" and he and she got highly insulted because he was, by God, her father and how could I use that derogatory word?
I explained that I am a stepfather and very proud of that fact, because it means you are voluntarily stepping into a family and assuming responsibility to be a parent of someone else's children. I was insulted they considered it an insult. Our friendship ended thereafter.
My point is that you can choose to try to mold the world around your own perspective, or you can accept that someone may not be directing something bad at you when they use a term that to you connotes, or sounds, like something bad. This name thing may be a heightened issue for your wife, and thus you, but I think your blood pressure will go way too high if you think everyone is required to adopt your perspective.
I myself have always hated the name, and most people I knew back in school seemed to use Rick or Richard to avoid snickers from the immature classmates surrounding them. (I think parents should use better sense in naming kids anyway!)
@JayHawkFanToo So a writer disagreeing with you must be biased? Read Brown's whole quote? I did, and he said no big deal. And he understood why they didn't stick around due to the celebrating. But feel free to write to KSU complaining that they should continue to be offended despite their efforts to put it to rest.
@stoptheflop What is everyones' biggest fear for this game?
I am just praying we don't lose possessions by pretending the other team cannot block shots despite mounting evidence during the game. Hopefully, what we learned last year at this time will dispel the theory that layups will magically miss defenders (but we failed to adapt that lesson to Konate in our first WVU game this year). Newman is the only one who seems conscious of the need to do a Mason-esque job of protecting the ball on the way to the rim. When Doke is out, layups may be impossible.
Speaking of Doke, if I were Self, I would restrict his defense to no further than the paint. Both to avoid dumb fouls and to keep him from expending energy so he can play longer.
@JayHawkFanToo Like most things, it isn't that simple. The video shows some KSU players lining up, and some still on the court. The video shows some UK players walking to the exit, but it shows some shaking hands. Not dispositive.
More compelling is KSU's Brown's admission that, yeah, they weren't really over in the line because of celebrating. But he makes the better point that it really isn't worth focusing on with a big game on Saturday.
I think the problem for everyone in this controversy is the wholesale effort to want to confirm UK and Cal as the jerks we tend to think they are, and (on this Board, at least) the desire to confirm KSU players as, well, as jerkish as we have viewed their coach.
No greater and larger conclusions about either program can legitimately be drawn from this incident. The pitchforks can be put down until something worth brandishing them crops up.

anyone been watching WVu much ?
Too much.
@Buster-1926 @jayballer73 C'mon, kids, let's not turn on each other about K State, of all things. Plenty of time for that after we beat them on April 2 and bring home the NC trophy.
@jayballer73 "I fret like some 95 year old granny"
Sister Jean (98) says not to worry about the young'uns frettin' none.....
@approxinfinity added that to our system here, and now we can search for key words of note. Sometimes makes a funny, though! Screenshot:
@Crimsonorblue22 @JayHawkFanToo
Virginia and Houston managed to wait for the celebrations to be over, then shook hands. @wissox should be able to confirm if true, but someone said UK pulled the same routine of not waiting when Wisc knocked them out.

Never ever would i have thought it possible that i would give a "fist-pump" at a made KSU basket...jeez! KU MUST WIN or i will hear nothing but "k-state made it further in the dance than your Jayhawks!" over and over and over and over......
Did they do that in 2010? I don't live in Kansas anymore so I don't get exposed to comments much. Maybe remind them that fairness requires they have to say "KU went further" about 20 times for each "KState went further" that they spew!
@JayHawkFanToo Waiting for it . . .
@BeddieKU23 Electrical work today. I will be hoping for no shocking surprises now or tonight!
Correction: Big Blown Nation
@HighEliteMajor Yeah, NW was the media darling after getting in the tourney last year as the last Power 5 school in the 78 years since it all began, and Chris Collins was on everybody's short list as the next up-and-coming coach. This year, back to earth at 15-14 and I heard rumors that some influential people were wondering if he should be replaced. You know, he wasn't keeping up that NW elite bb tradition.
The preseason poll from early November tells us how crazy. Only 8 of the Sweet 16 were in that poll, and 3 of those got bounced last night. 5 left out of the 12 teams remaining.
@jaybate-1.0 My only class in Hoch was Chemistry with Jacob Kleinberg in 74-75. He was always saying, "So, let's recapitulate." We never capitulated, just re-capitulated.
@JayHawkFanToo KU? or KSU fans?
truehawk93 said:
haha...the same Webber that called a TO with no TO left? haha...the fab 5 Webber? PJ Washington's FTs pretty much lost this game for uk.
I guess that in the record books that TO never happened because the NCAA vacated both of the Fab5's Final 4 appearances!

Loyola is ranked ahead of KSU on Kenpom. Them being in the MVC made it so they were wrongly seeded.
So, Wichita State got out of that trap. Good thing for them!

@DanR There were KSU fans at Intrust Saturday cheering against KU, some just watching others were cheering Seton Hall.
I cheer for KSU just because they are underdogs and haven't had much tourney success since we beat them in Detroit in 1988. When they cheer against us, it is a reflection of how comparatively overwhelmingly sucessful we have been.
On the other hand, I am pretty sure they would not cheer for us if the positions were reversed -- if we had a surprise bowl appearance in fb, they would boo us. So maybe they really are jerks.
@KUSTEVE Oh, I was just meandering through between game idleness. Not trying to argue. Just wondering because of the way we honor former Jayhawks.
@KUSTEVE Did OK, too. Not sure we call him a Jayhawk if he left and never played. Evan Maxwell? The 'Stache? are they part of "us"?

@KUSTEVE Yep.
Sister Jean rushing the court!
@Kcmatt7 Wake's approach to trying to get better is sorta like living in the middle of a desert and moving to a new house every couple years because you can't grow a nice lawn.
@JayHawkFanToo They will get credit for firing him. In 1988, we might have gotten penalized more if LB had not gone to San Antonio. He previously had turned down the Lakers (I think), and I always wondered if Bob Frederick pushed him out after finding out through channels about the death penalty being more likely if he stayed.
@dylans The "most"? Not KU. But the "best" according to that author, mostly because of the singular talent and career of Wilt!
Several other interesting articles in that link, by the way, if you scroll down.
@CRH107 Interesting stat in that game was WKY is now 23-0 when leading with 5 mins to go. Their coach, Rick Stansbury, is 36-0 overall in that stat in his 2 years. They have improved under him from 15-17 last year to 27-10. Interesting program: acc to Wikipedia, they are actually #8 in all time winning percentage (#16 in total wins).
Good luck, Dwight!
@JayHawkFanToo Wouldn't surprise me at all! My wife always laughs at my failure to be more up to date on name fads.
@Texas-Hawk-10 Doke is a big difference from last year, though. So, Clemson will not be as dominating as Oregon was.
@wissox Don't blame SI for ESPN's reseeding. SI is picking KU to win (but not so KSU):
@BeddieKU23 I saw an analysis of why there are more snow days without snow. States have largely reduced funding for school districts, school districts are getting consolidated, and plows are less available or shared by several municipalities. With districts covering wider geographical areas that can combine city and rural areas, the school boards have to make decisions sooner than they used to, and do not want to run the busses (which in many places like SC are poorly maintained) in any areas that might get hit by snow, affecting an entire district even if a storm might be limited. They have liabilty concerns over both running the busses on slippery roads, and not running the busses while the schools are open because of the worry that parents and kids will then have to drive those roads. Finally, with busses often shared by several schools or even districts, transporting the busses from closed districts to open districts can be iffy at best. (In SC all busses are owned by the state. Oh, yay.)
So, consolidation and limited funds, coupled with ultra-sensitivity to liabilty, are the reason kids get to stay home now and go to school in summer.
@Texas-Hawk-10 Let's see, Oregon defended the paint really well, and all we had to do was make some shots from outside..... Do you see this as similar?
@RockChalkinTexas If it is a new posting, it sounds like an opportunist trying to screw with people's minds. Hope they catch this guy, too!
@BeddieKU23 Pitt sounds kinda like KU fb.
@approxinfinity Those fact things really screw stuff up, don't they?
Apparently they identified, tracked down, and cornered the bomber, who blew himself up (or was shot, or both).
@RockChalkinTexas I hope you have been okay through all this. Unfortunately, I know what a widespread community fear of random violence is like, because we lived in the VA suburbs of DC during the Oct 2002 sniper shootings very close to a couple incidents. My heart goes out to all you Austinians and hope they soon announce all his devices have been located so you all can enjoy a sense of relief and a return to normalcy.
@JayHawkFanToo I am pretty sure one of them is named William, and another one is named Susan.
@JayHawkFanToo Martin is now more of a crusader than he used to be. He would take him in if he thought he could reach him and reform him, but not just because he wants a good player.
@Buster-1926 Yep, last second DK got away and Seattle won. Good memory!
https://www.nytimes.com/1990/11/12/sports/thomas-of-chiefs-gets-7-sacks.html ↗
@BeddieKU23 I can't see Martin adding him. He took Bowen only after satisfying himself the kid had no part in the Louisville scam. A heckuva lot harder to find innocence in Felton.
