@jayballer54 I think we played a 2-3 near the end for at least a few seconds.
@cragarhawk And yet the coach didn't say it the way y'all are, did he? So maybe the difference is important. I would think Mitch thinks he played and would not have appreciated a comment from HCBS that totally disregarded him.
@cragarhawk I saw that after my post. "Basically 6" means who got playing time, who is a cog for set plays, etc. "Only 6" means the 7th was nothing. Mitch wasn't much, but he occupied a role and got beaten up for the team.
@RockkChalkk I didn't see the cheering at all. The focus was on UK because of their freshmen and the uncertainty surrounding them. I saw many complimentary comments to both teams.
Then again, I never see all that bias so many complain about.
Doke had almost twice as many actual shot attempts as he made, but nearly half resulted in fouls so they don't show up in the box score.
I am unhappy people are dissing Mitch so much. He was there, he played, he got blasted around, he was horribly outsized and overmatched, but he did make 2 nice plays that prevented easy inside UK baskets.
Plesse stop saying only 6 players. Or just give up the "team" concept entirely if you are so dismissive.
Oddly enough, when the 3's don't fall, and you only have one inside threat, the defense will focus on denial to the post. And if the only post player has to be careful not to foul out, the defense will succeed more often than not.
I thought Dok did great considering--and I admire him for not breaking Billy into a few pieces.

@BShark we do have a couple of football players that were solid BB playersx in high school to think about.
Wow, just think about how excited they would be going from -- well, you know, whatever adjective suits your fancy -- to a championship caliber team!
@Crimsonorblue22 Lack of insurance should not make him ineligible unless it is considered a conduct violation of team rules (disciplinary, not anticipatory eligibility, suspension by HCBS).
Don't like Duke, don't like Grayson, but he is playing a helluva game. 35 pts so far.

Is this speculation or is info out there?
I was asking whether the wording by Self about financial concerns, coupled with not playing Preston, meant they were wondering about how he purchased the car (why keep him out unless to avoid playing a potentially ineligible player?). The illustration was just one of several conceivable scenarios that could be a hint if true.
All speculation, no info.
@BShark I was thinking maybe he had a new Porsche, but had come to campus driving a 2003 Kia.
Does "clearer financial picture" = how did he get that car?
@jayballer54 I am worried about you spending so much time on UK, UMd, UT, and other Boards. Like I worry about disease responders--I appreciate what they do, as I do your efforts to get info, but, like those responders, I hope you don't catch some icky virus.

@mayjay Tell me how does the light shine in the Halls of Shambala?
For those dog people, I assume?
@wissox I did a search and I think it must be in the Lost Archives. If you do a web search on "reasons for hate crimes laws" you might find some interesting stuff. Here is an NPR discussion:
@JayHawkFanToo I know. But his music will always be "by Cat Stevens" to me!
@wissox We have been through this discussion at length previously. I really don't want to get into it. Suffice it to say that hate crime legislstion has been enacted to emphasize societal dissaproval of crimes that society by and large tacitly condoned or at least did not punish. The voice of society as expressed in these laws is intended to help groups who engage in hate-inspired conduct realize they are now outlaws if they act on their hate, and that next time we won't wink and nod and say, "Yeah, that [insert perjorative term] had it coming. How dare he [wink/move in/smile/be different]?"
That not all hate crimes are punished is no reason not to prosecute ones where you can. Proving intent is no harder here than for common law burglary (breaking in at nighttime with intent to commit a crime), or 1st degree murder (malice aforethought). Proven by statements if available, inference from circumstantial evidence if no vocalized intent (maybe carrying a KKK flag & wearing a hood).
This topic is the subject of lengthy seminars, dissertations, and law review articles. What I have said is general impressions, nowhere near the detail and history it deserves. But I hope it helps you understand some of the theory. I am exhausted from prior expositions, so I am out!
@KUSTEVE Thank you.
@KUSTEVE Not Cat Stevens?
@Lulufulu Correct. Not a "wildcat" (bobcat). A wild cat.
Who knew a simple space could, despite looking empty, carry such an amount of meaning?
@HighEliteMajor Just look for his neck. The rear end is where the neck disappears.
That is funny, especially since they have him listed as a center on their roster (just about the only word I could read)! Even height-affirmative-action-oriented KU never actually called him that!
@dylans I gotta tell ya, I really had no idea before reading it today!
Let's call 'em the Kaintuckee Linxseseseseses, boyz 'n girlz!
@dylans The first reference is only about the "old world" (European and African) wildcat. In the "disambiguation" link about the term wildcat, it has references only to the bobcats in N Am, which is what I referenced as talking about. The owl lady in your second reference makes the common mistake of using wildcat for puma. Taxonomists don't seem to agree. I have not found any scientific (as opposed to animal groupie) references to "wildcats" (in N Am) containing pumas, etc. Only bobcats and lynxes. A puma etc is a "wildcat" in much the same way that people confuse apes and monkeys.
Let's keep calling them the Kentucky Bobbiecats and see if they get mad!
Sorry, @JayHawkFanToo, I do prefer cats over dogs since no dog will ever resurrect the beautiful collie of my childhood, Frisker.
@drgnslayr I cannot tell if you are being facetious. Bobcats and "wildcats" (when used as a noun and not two words) in N Amer are the same animal (11 subspecies). They are basically large lynxes, running up to 30 to 40 lbs. People sometimes think the wildcat is the same as a cougar (aka puma, mountain lion, panther, & catamount) but that is a larger cat (60 to 220 lbs), closer in size to lions.
All are "wild cats" but if I had chosen the mascot, I'd have gone with the more imposing catamount. Congrats to Vermont, whose Catamounts held their own yesterday!
@Bosthawk Looking through the team's web site, I found he is still listed on their roster, so he might have been injured or something. But I turned off Google translation so I couldn't read anything about him. Nice picture on the roster page (give it a moment to load):
@jayballer54 Took me awhile before I realized it meant Direct Messaging someone. I get lost a lot when the social media lingo and abbreviations start flying!
@JayHawkFanToo Now it is just best for them to Pass Out.
@Texas-Hawk-10 It just seemed so unlikely, so I decided to look it up. The California law only applies to travel to states deemed to have discriminatory laws. (Calif Attorney General discussion: https://oag.ca.gov/ab1887) β
Multiple news stories last winter say that at the time it was enacted, UCalif and KU were planning a home and home series. Because Cal could not travel to KU, KU would not travel to Berkeley, so the discussions were cancelled. http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2017/feb/03/lgbt-advocates-push-repeal-laws-deemed-obsolete-or/ β
The Stanford trip was already planned as the return trip from last year. An extension to make it a 4 game series was announced even before that game, before California's law was passed. http://www.gostanford.com/news/2016/11/22/mens-basketball-stanford-and-kansas-agree-on-four-game-series.aspx β
I could not find anything stating no public school can host schools from KS or other states. If my research is wrong, can you steer me to something?
Kinda cool being the school everyone wants to see, so much that these special sales protocols get adopted!
@Texas-Hawk-10 I thought the law only prevented trips by publicly funded Calif schools to schools in offending states? No?
After the Border War for charity was announced, a lot of schools did the same thing. Our exhibition sold out the Sprint Center at prices from, I believe, $25 to $200, plus had @ 20,000 PPV customers at $40 per. Raised a bit over $2 million for the 5 charities.
South Carolina and Virginia Tech received a similar exemption for charity. Tickets were $10, no PPV. 3,500 fans attended.
And THAT is why the notoriety of the Border War lent itself to the huge fundraising success--just any ol' exhibition against any ol' Div 1 school wouldn't raise the same passion. WSU? Maybe, but KC was uniquely positioned to host the War and attract fans equally from both schools. No comparably large venue would exist for KU-WSU.
All in all, a massive success.
@HighEliteMajor @justanotherfan
For more information and thoughts regarding substance abuse, addiction, the complex factors involved in this issue, AND in the context of Josh Gordon's history, you both may wish to read an article dating from last year. It is written by someone with years of experience in the field.
https://scout.com/nfl/browns/Article/Josh-Gordon-Understanding-Addiction-74959557 β
@JayHawkFanToo Must be what happened to the person writing it, too!
@JayHawkFanToo You missed them calling KU the "Wildcats" not once but twice?
Now that I posted that, I cannot find any on that site. Maybe they sold out.
@HighEliteMajor Yeah, I'm not optimistic about the value from selling the players' unis in a loss to an 0-7 team--those probably go to a hall of fame. From the Star article announcing them--so you can pick a few sets up at you earliest convenience!
"The school said that merchandise based on this look will be sold at Rally House Allen Fieldhouse, Memorial Stadium or at KUStore.com."
Caution: don't wear the Redleg pants in northwest Missouri, or to any Jeremiah Johnson screening for that matter.
@HighEliteMajor By selling them and replicas to the dozens of fans who might buy them. Should be good for covering about 1 training table meal.
@BShark
Alum? Maybe. Might have attended a semester or two.
Grad? Doubt it. Even those schools have standards.
@HighEliteMajor Alternate revenue source.
@KUSTEVE Rather not break his hand doing it, tho!
@nuleafjhawk But if they charge the football players for admission to the stadium, too, that would represent what, a 5% increase in attendance?
@HighEliteMajor Estimates range from, I believe, 30% to 75% of people habitually involved in substance abuse (drugs and alcohol) may be suffering from undiagnosed depression and engaged in "self-medication".
@wissox Here is an article advocating returning these games, from 2013. It points out they used to have regional consolation games.
Would we have enjoyed watching games after losing to VCU, Nova, and Oregon? What if we lost? What would those off-season discussions have been like?
@wissox Yeah, that consolation game loss to Bill Walton in 1974 was a real fun time for everyone involved.
@nuleafjhawk The money would also be needed to replace all the Big 12 logos and flags with whatever small conference we end up in....
@kjayhawks It was HCBS who chose not to play Cliff to avoid a D Rose retroactive NCAA sanction for playing someone ineligible. NCAA never actually announced anything, probably because he announced for NBA. I know the loan arrangement came out, but without subpoena power to 3rd parties the NCAA couldn't connect it to Cliff but no one could clear him either.
Bowen case may be less uncertain if the FBI has all the relevant financial and email records, and they may establish things like "Don't tell the kid!".
Didn't I mention, in reply to worries about the injury risk of playing Mizzou, that like Doke, anyone can get hurt in practice, too?
(Redacted rejoinder.) (Which must be a joinder, whatever that is.)
