@dylans You have OTHER interests? BAH! I thought you were a true KU fan.
lol

@Bosthawk It's a good question that I don't have an answer for. But, by the end of the season, the number of people to choose from will have narrowed down greatly. I think a lot of people are going to be surprised at the year he has. Barring injury, of course.
@benshawks08 I hate to disagree this early in the morning, but I see the Royals going 162 - 0. And undefeated in the playoffs. Until they get swept 4 straight in the World Series.
OH WAIT!! I'm thinking of Kentucky. Bwa-hahahahahahahahhahahaha.......:laughing:
@wissoxfan83 Best FT defense in collegiate history..........
@JayHawkFanToo We might as well air out ALL our dirty laundry at one time....
@JayHawkFanToo Danny's probably as close as it comes, but I was talking about the one & done's. The only one I can think of that ever did it was Carmelo Anthony. I'm sure you remember him......
Generally speaking OAD's are good for the OAD's, nobody else. Make a name, get a lot of PR, get a big fat NBA paycheck, do nothing for the school that you attended for a few months. Buh Bye.
Actually, I'm glad you brought up Danny Manning. Right now, his jersey's hanging in the rafters, along with the NC banner that he brought us. He is one of the most revered Jayhawks of all time. How do you suppose he'd be remembered if he left after his freshman year. That was, what - 30 years ago? I absolutely would have no recollection of him.
@drgnslayr I think I heard somewhere that one of the reasons that Jo Jo White chose Kansas was because he got to see Gale Sayers play and meet him in person. That was a big deal to him.
@wissoxfan83 I've been pretty outspoken about my OAD feelings, but let me put things in perspective. This particular guy was not a OAD, only because that's not the way it worked back then.
WILT.
If we could not win a championship with that guy, there is no single player that is ever going to put us on his back and carry us to basketball glory. And just for the record, no human being will ever convince me that Wilt was not only the best basketball player that ever was/ever will be, he was probably also the best athlete. Ever.
We need Senior leadership. Team players. A basketball family, if you will. BOO to OAD's.
@HighEliteMajor I hope the weather is causing you to stay indoors today.
Wayne's World! It's Party Time! Excellent!
@DanR That's because he's dating her for her brains.
@REHawk I'm envious! The Lake of the Ozarks is beautiful. Too bad it has to be in ............Missouri. (puke)
I'm pretty sure that just about everyone on this site are not huge Iowa State fans, but I know that everyone here will be keeping Fred and his family in their thoughts and/or prayers.
Get well soon Fred !!
@drgnslayr That's awesome that you keep up with your old teammates. It's funny - the friends that I made in my teens and 20's - I still keep up with many of them, though we're MILES apart. And even the ones I don't stay in contact with, I still have a very special place in my heart for them. I think I'll go watch The Wizard of Oz now......
@drgnslayr WOW. I always knew I was naive, but I had no idea how flippin far in the sand my head was buried.
I still think it's stupid. It's actually beyond that, buy I can't think of a proper word to describe it. " Mizzoulish " ??
@drgnslayr Sometimes I really think I should have been born maybe 30, 40 years before I was. Honestly. I have an appreciation of older things and older ways. I don't own a cell phone!! So you know I'm serious! lol
I've been reading these books about KU and I just really enjoy (and am envious of) the way things were. (That sounds like a song/movie). I guess I really don't know how Bill Self is as a person, how he really interacts with these kids, but I love the stories of how Roy (and others) really took these kids under their wings and how they continue to interact to this day. I mentioned this in another post somewhere, but kids from Clyde Lovellette to ....I don't know Raef, Jacque, Adonis, really every kid that I've read about that was recruited by Kansas clear up to the last one recruited by Roy - they ALL said how they wanted to come to KU because of the family atmosphere, the fans, the tradition, the history - no mention of improving their NBA stock or because KU wore a certain brand of uniform / shoe.
Sigh.....the good ol days.
@Crimsonorblue22 I'm sorry, I don't understand the question. What/who is a global?
@tis4tim Good points. Plus, you reminded me I have two pair of New Balance in a closet in the other room.
@REHawk I have a cousin that lives pretty close to that, I believe. In Sunrise Beach - on the Lake of the Ozarks. Is that in the general area?
@wissoxfan83 ( i left the 9" heels off that list...hehe )
@drgnslayr Serious question. In your opinion, why do kids want to go to Kentucky or Duke instead of Kansas?
Is this shoe thing really a ............THING?
I thought you guys have been feeding us a line of crap all this time. Does anybody really care about stupid brand of SHOE they wear? REALLY?????
In my closet this morning I see....... Adidas, Reebok, Asic, Converse, Columbia boots, Nocona boots, Dockers, Sketchers, Sperry Topsiders and some K-mart flip flops.
Any kid that picks a college based on his flippin shoes - I DON'T WANT!
REALLY?? This is a THING?????
@brooksmd Too Much Information
@brooksmd Well, the Royals resurrected my enthusiasm for watching baseball on TV last season, but I've always enjoyed going to games in person. It's just so dang............American.
(cue the Star Spangled Banner and wait for the fighter jets fly-by)
@brooksmd I'd like to see that - when I lived there, they still played their games in the Astrodome. Coldest foam in the Dome! It really was fun. The "homecoming" game for Nolan Ryan was one I'll never forget.
If you want to see a really beautiful Triple-A ball park, check out Dell Diamond - home of the Round Rock Express in Round Rock, Tx, which is a farm club for the Texas Rangers. It's pretty sweet!
@brooksmd In the early 80's we lived in Houston and I attended 10-12 Houston Rockets games. But I got over it pretty quickly.
We probably went to 30 Astros games every year though - that was a blast. Also that was when it was still affordable.
@JRyman You know there's no such thing as "free range" chickens, right? When's the last time you ever looked out across the prairie and saw a giant herd of chickens?
(I think Brian Regan did a bit on that.....)
@JRyman I knew I'd forget something.......
@jaybate-1.0 It is scientifically documented that any food eaten when no one else is looking is 100% fat free, sodium free and only contains the "good" cholesterol.
@drgnslayr I'm not sure about your assessment of Niang - against US anyway, he always looks like the best player in college basketball.
Evacuating Manhattan - Anxious Wildcats
@ralster My super-intuitive powers enable me to perceive that possibly K-State isn't your favorite team/institution in the world. I'm good, huh?
I've been reading some books about KU history (trying to convince myself that I still love basketball despite the OAD's, whom I feel about the same way that you do K-State) and many of the ex players talk about the hatred that Ted Owens, Jack Hartman and Norm Stewart had for each other. No mutual respect - hatred.
I kinda like that.
@JayHawkFanToo To be consistently relevant, they will have to have a Bill Snyder type basketball dude just fall into their laps. It could happen, but the odds are against them.
@drgnslayr You know, this whole OAD thing is really making me have a lot higher regard for football players. And the NFL.
@JayHawkFanToo Reality Bites.
I'm reading a book now called "Tales from the Jayhawks hardwood : a collection of the greatest Kansas basketball stories ever told". It has stories and quotes from many of the great Kansas basketball stars that ever played here. To name a few, Dave Robisch, Clyde Lovellette, Jo-Jo White, Bud Stallworth, well you get the idea. Really almost all of the greats.
Every single one of them, when asked why they chose The University of Kansas answered the same.
It felt like family. I felt loved. I felt respected. I was overwhelmed by the history and tradition. The campus was beautiful. The fans were knowledgeable and friendly.
Not one dang mention of " I wanted to be in the national spotlight." "I felt going to Kansas would improve my NBA draft prospects." " I felt I could make an extra 3 mil per year if I went here instead of....Utah State (whatever)."
Pay attention Bill. Recruit the ones who want to work hard and be part of a family. They will hang banners in the Fieldhouse.
I am so proud of myself. You guys won't believe how many really nasty comments that I have typed and discarded. I mean a LOT of them.
The whole Svi thing just about got a "submit" instead of a "discard", but I caught myself just in time.
Is the NBA looking at kids still in pampers? I've got a 2 year old great nephew who can flat out SKY. Got a WICKED 2 foot sky hook. The kid has MAJOR FLIPPIN NBA POTENTIAL.
"SUBMIT"
@stupidmichael Was Perry EVER considering not staying? I'm just asking. My assumption was that he never announced because he never had any intention of leaving. ?
@RockChalkinTexas I hope it's somewhere with an emphasis on Spelling.
@BeddieKU23 said:
We can cry about OAD's all we want but some coaches have proven they can make it work.
Sounds like maybe you would like to expound upon this .....?
@drgnslayr said:
The kid brought a frenetic positive, intense energy to the game and it made the difference. Why can't we see that in a Kansas player?
I'm probably wrong, but in my opinion, that's why we're not winning like we're used to - no intense energy. The past several years, I really only perceive a very few people like that - T-Rob, Sherron, to a lesser degree, the Morris'.
Think back to the last National Championship team - we started two Seniors, two Juniors and a sophomore. Not a single OAD. And those starters had "the fire". Chalmers, Rush, Arthur, Jackson, Russ Rob. Tell me the OAD system is the way to go. BAH.
There's my new motto for this team. " BRING THE FIRE ".
Or be what @drgnslayr's wife says you are.
@JayHawkFanToo Yep - we're about due. If we can just stay away from the OAD's........
aaaaaaah yes. Thanks for the Az reminder.
Every few years, I'll think that scab has healed and then someone comes along and RIPS IT OFF! Yeehah- fresh blood.
lol
The only fool's gold any of us are ever going to understand:
ELVIS' FAMOUS FOOL'S GOLD SANDWICH
A sandwich consisting of a single warmed, hollowed-out loaf of bread filled with the contents of one jar of creamy peanut butter, one jar of grape jelly, and a pound of bacon. The sandwich's connection to Elvis Presley is the source of its legend and prolonged interest. According to The Life and Cuisine of Elvis Presley, it was the focus of a midnight sandwich run by Elvis Presley and his friends. Taking his private jet from Graceland, Presley and his friends purchased 22 of the sandwiches and spent three hours eating the sandwiches and drinking Perrier and champagne before flying home.
@JayHawkFanToo Must be. I guess it's one of those things I just have to learn to deal with. Life is so hard.
@JayHawkFanToo Lol - that's an ongoing "battle" between me and my wife (guess who wins) - I'm like "what's the point of having a dishwasher if they're clean when they go in?" Maybe it's just more storage, I don't know.
To me, it's no contest. The Bobby Morris loss was fun, don't get me wrong. UK was having a down year, wound up in the NIT and gets beaten by a team that most people have never heard of - doesn't get much better than that, huh?
Wrong!
Kentucky steamrolled us and just about everyone else ALL year long. They were huge favorites to win it all and to steal Indiana's glory as the only unbeaten team in almost 40 years and then BAM! They ran into the Badgers! Or the Badgers ran into them I should say. Sucked the life out of them and probably the entire state of Kentucky. (And most of Las Vegas!)
I'm sorry to be feeling so nasty the day after Easter, but since KU has been out of it for a while, I could not imagine a better scenario.
I'll be rooting for Wisconsin tonight, but the outcome of tonight's game will in no way rival the joy I got from Saturday's game!
@brooksmd Just make sure you get them all sparkly clean before you put them IN the dishwasher.....
@VailHawk I had another emotion - I was TICKED. For about 5 years. Well, probably longer.
But if he had been a crappy coach, no good guy, it wouldn't have bothered me a bit. I know I'm in the minority, but if it worked out that Roy was coming back to KU to coach, I'd figure out how to do a backflip. I love the guy - I think he's a great coach and a better man.
@JayhawkRock78 He is risen indeed!
