Good enough effort to beat a one-man team. Need more against Dayton.
OCHAI 1000 !
Always tricky to watch a game while you're putting stuff together for the meal. Multitasking was never my strong point.
Oh well, GO HAWKS ! Everybody enjoy their day.
I honestly thought UCLA would come out strong, even without Riley, given the memory of last year's game. Not showing much of anything. At least they stopped the bleeding...for now.
Oops. Forgot that "Maui" is in Vegas this year due to the virus. Better than last year anyway, when they had to play in Asheville.
As I watch Butler get taken apart by Houston in Maui, I'm surprised at how far their program has fallen in just a dozen years, when they went to back-to-back National Championship games. Now they're bottom-feeders in the Big East.
They'd rather waste three hours letting Peyton & Eli shoot off their yaps than carry a CBB game.
At least the night owls get the last game in Maui today (6:30 PM local tip time, 11:30 Eastern. Maybe later if the earlier games run long.
@wrwlumpy I first heard about the North Texas jazz bands from Dick Wright, who was manager of KANU Radio (now KPR), when I took his History Of Jazz class at KU. (Dick had a basement library of over 10,000 albums !)
Their list of alumni could make up a Who's Who of the jazz world.
And another pick ! Sneed shuts the door to seal the win !
Zero touchdowns by the Cowboys. Wow. KC defense steps up.
Still a ways to go, but with the Raiders, Tennessee and Buffalo losing today, things look good for a playoff spot at the VERY least.
Chiefs D looking great so far. Mahomes, not so much. Only 11 of 18 in the first half. Might be good enough though.
Dak not so hot either. 13 of 21, but for only 68 yards, no TDs and a Chiefs pick.
One win and two close losses in conference within the last five games. Sounds strange, but I'm calling that progress.
Defense needs to be able to hold up over four quarters though.
Aargh
BACK IN BIDNESS !
Baylor playing like...Baylor.
Meanwhile, Jerod Haase looks to be on the hot seat at Stanford. That loss to Santa Clara didn't help. Hate to see it happen to a Jayhawk who I really enjoyed as a player, but this may be his last season in Palo Alto. It's his sixth year with the Cardinal, and they've only finished in the top half of the Pac-12 once under him.
Horns shooting for six in a row. Down by 11 to WVA at halftime.
Goddard's own Doc Koenigs ! He turned down the NBA to go to med school. Now a gastroenterologist in Massachusetts.
Small forward, 1975 thru 78. Part of lineups that included Darnell Valentine, Paul Mokeski, Donnie Von Moore, John Douglas (his roommate) and Clint Johnson.
The end of that '78 season was such a letdown. It was all set up for us to be a Final Four team. One of the regionals was at Allen Field House. This was before the NCAA stopped letting a team play on their home court in the tournament. All we had to do was win the Big 8 tourney (as the top seed) to get sent to a first round game in either Wichita or Tulsa, presumably leading to the regional in Lawrence. (Only 32 teams in the field back then.) And the Final Four was in St. Louis at the old Checkerdome. All within driving distance for KU fans.
Instead we got upset by K-State in the Big 8 tournament semis, and were sent out west to Eugene OR to face UCLA.
The Bruins beat us by 7 after we led at halftime. But that wasn't the worst of it. NBC's Curt Gowdy, normally a solid play-by-play guy, called the nationally-broadcast game, and managed to mispronounce nearly every Jayhawk's name ("Darrell Valentine." "Paul Moneski." etc.) Everybody in the bar where I watched the game was screaming and cussing Gowdy out, compounding the misery that day.
Things worked out for Koenigs though. Drafted by Cleveland, he had a good rookie camp, but decided to follow his academic dreams and enrolled at KU Med. Eventually becoming a gastroenterologist, he set up practice in, of all places, Springfield, Massachusetts...the home of the Basketball Hall Of Fame. He's been there ever since.
Watched the end of the Oklahoma game vs. Indiana State. Didn't realize OU has the Groves Bros. from Eastern Washington...thought we were rid of them.
Not to mention Porter Moser (ex-Loyola-Chicago) as coach. Could be scary in Big XII play.
Tanner (the one with the beard) had 24 points on 10 of 15 from the field, and 8 boards. 11 points off the bench from brother Jacob.
@jayballer67 said in OK so now the Question becomes:
So it's already been brought up, so I guess might as well ask, now the question becomes - -does Jalen play next weekend burning his Red-Shirt ? - OR do we keep him out of these last two games ?
Sorry guys but from my standpoint - - my view I would have to say - if Bean is ready - -we hold Jalen, he going to be to vital for us I believe. I mean we not going to go to any Bowls this year or anything like that - -Save Daniels and he will still have 3 years. You can see with the only exception where the ball got tipped , no INT looked pretty good on the roll out's -why waste a year for 3 games?
This program is making headway -- making strides last year we were winless -this year we got 2 wins and a Big 12 road win. - We Beat Texas and we played Oklahoma tough/close. Here in Jayhawk Country we call that progress - have to crawl before we walk and guys we are about to take that 1st step. - -just my opinion we save Jalen , what you think ?
Totally agree that we keep him out. All the national pub for the Texas win is a huge recruiting coup. Losing him for a a couple of games won't hurt the program. Meanwhile we pick up another year's worth of linemen to protect him next year and beyond.
Depth will pay off in that three-games-in-four- days stretch.
Apparently Remy reinjured his back. according to Self's postgame interview.
Trifecta. KU wins, beats the spread, hits the Over.
Ochai stuck at 999 threes.
Teahan Time !
By the way, that movie has a Kansas tie-in. The French Dispatch. Pretty surreal. From the same director as The Grand Budapest Hotel.

@nwhawkfan yeah we sucked most of the first half and then just went bonkers in the last 10 minutes
Oh, then business as usual.
Just got back from a movie. How we lookin'? Any surprises?
Just got done watching Jalon Daniels get interviewed on the Rich Eisen Show. Can't remember the last time a KU football player appeared on a nationwide sports talk show. Part of an NIL deal with Gorilla Glue. He was their Toughest Player Of The Week. Eisen was absolutely gushing over him. Interview should show up later today on the show's Twitter or YouTube pages.
@BeddieKU23 Technically a neutral court loss since they played in Portland and not Eugene. Still, that's the equivalent of a bad KU loss at Sprint (oops, T-Mobile) Center.
Heels managed to pull it out. Michigan not so lucky as Seton Hall comes back to win.
And Oregon gets absolutely clobbered as BYU goes into Portland and beats the Ducks by 32.
@Crimsonorblue22 It'll be interesting to see how Coach K handles this compared to Coach Self in the Wilson case. He could suspend him for a game or two, or argue that he only "aided and abetted" his grandson and give him a slap on the wrist. Splitting hairs perhaps, but I'll bet it's the latter.
Well, well. Guess whose star player is in deep doo-doo...

Mizzou, OU, and Texas. Hell of a last few days for the SEC
ROOS WIN 80-66
MUCK FIZZOU
Looks like our old friend Shaka pulled off the upset over Illinois.
Guessing that the Marquette fan base will give him a lot more slack than he had at Texas.

@nwhawkfan not in ks?
In KC MO. It was a Catholic boys' school. Rockhurst High was our rival. The two schools used to play for a traveling trophy every year called The Little Brown Jug, a real wooden keg with scores of each year's game. We managed to beat them all four years I was there.

Wow a state champ! 🤩⭐️🏆🙌
It was part of a bizarre school year with lots of ups and downs...we won the state FB title, then the Chiefs won the Super Bowl. On the down side, we lost three teachers in a car crash that fall, and the school was almost shut down for good the following spring. (It eventually happened a year later). Chaotic for sure.

@nwhawkfan have faith! My high school team is in sub state, sat ku won, today chiefs. Forgot ku bb
Good luck to your high school team, BTW. Too bad my HS isn't around anymore, but at least we won the state football title my senior year.
It was great to see the trophy again when somebody brought it to our reunion dinner last month.
Mahomes 35 for 50. Threw for 406 yards, 5 TDs, with a 127 QBR.
Ho-hum.
"Ladies and gentlemen, your first place Kansas City Chiefs!"
Not a statement I thought I'd hear a few weeks ago...
Raider fans about to take a cue from the Texas fans last night.
They all blur together after a while. Hate it when there are three or four good viewing choices on a given night.
Oh, so THERE"S that offense we were looking for.

@bskeet too bad it was a late night affair
. Those teams deserved better
Late even for the West Coast...8:40 tipoff at Pauley
Out of all the postgame chatter, I think my favorite was this quote from Pat Forde of Sports Illustrated:
"The league may well have been eliminated from College Football Playoff contention Saturday, but it certainly felt good for the remaining eight of its members to see the evacuees who destabilized the conference laid low." Amen.
Off for a nightcap. (And what a night to cap!)
RCJH !
Imagine those UT football fans leaving the KU game early so they could go home and watch Gonzaga eat their lunch.
I remember a game I went to at Oregon in 1980. KU scored late to make it 7 to 6, then went for the tie. Duck fans were pissed big time. Of course that was before they played overtime.
Hindsight is easy, but I was okay with the two-point conversion try. Our defense was gassed. Don't think we could've held them off any longer.
Congrats to Coach Leipold for the gutsy call.
I've got the radio postgame on the KLWN Radio website
Damn...can't find my Horns Down emoji. Anyone ?
