Where to Watch. Hint: ESPN+ (still sucks) • Oct 10, 2024 05:35 AM

@DanR said in Where to Watch. Hint: ESPN+ (still sucks):

I honestly have no idea how I'm paying for ESPN+. I've looked back through two years of credit card statements...no monthly, no annual. I've tried to change my payment method, and it says "do it through whatever app you used to sign up." I've checked my Disney and Hulu etc. which I suspend occasionally for months at a time. I've had both of the credit cards I use replaced in the past 2 years (lost one/the other expired etc., so new numbers). Yet still... free ESPN+ as far as I can tell. I've given up. Maybe with the rate change I'll be able to figure it out.

PayPal? That’s how I found my mystery ESPN+ payment.

and here we go, official word:

OCTOBER 8: Rice’s Tuesday procedure was a success, veteran insider Jordan Schultz reports. He will indeed miss the remainder of the campaign after the surgery repaired his LCL in addition to his hamstring. As hoped, though, no such repairs were needed on Rice’s ACL or meniscus and a full recovery is expected. Rice remains attached to his rookie contract through 2026.

Sounds like we'll get a Rashee update today. He's under the knife. Confusing as heck, but they will get a bird's eye view of the damage.

And also, why again is Skyy Moore still on the team? Dropped yet another ball on a kickoff.

I think we are still waiting for the full TV schedule to come out.
But, rest assured, ESPN+ finds a way to spread out the games so you need it all season.

@rockchalkjayhawk hopefully just 3 months. If so he’ll be at full strength early (all?) next season. Yay!

The pass catchers played well against the Saints, but I’d still be in favor of adding a WR if they can get someone that can help on an expiring contract like Cooper (Browns). Or poach a practice squad guy like Metchie (Texans)

I'm a bit disappointed that he's likely out for the year. Speculation late last week was that he would be back. Sucks. So yea, add a WR! And a JuJu sighting! nice.

Aikman was high on Xavier, saying he may be a stud be season's end.

A clear recovery timetable for Chiefs receiver Rashee Rice is still not in place. After further testing on his injured knee Monday, though, the worst-case scenario has been avoided.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports Rice will need an LCL repair, but he adds that may be the only ligament requiring such a procedure. Rice’s Week 4 injury was initially feared to be an ACL tear, but it appears that is not the case. While Rapoport notably indicates the second-year wideout is expected to miss the remainder of the season, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Rice’s recovery timeline will be much shorter than originally expected.

They apparently lost their top WR today @AsadZ

Anybody know why Grimes had JD rolling out to his left so much? I can't imagine that's a good way to get a struggling QB in sync. That's a body contortion and tough on accuracy.

While my sweat drys on my face it causes my pads on the inside of my helmet to stick to my cheeks. If I had a head injury I would address it.

So glad you posted this! I was totally wondering if dude had Tourette’s or something.

Let’s go Jayhawks! Today’s the day. Don’t see a reason we can’t win this game. ASU not exactly a powerhouse so far.

We’ve been competitive, so let’s turn it to 11!

My two cents: we see somebody else take a snap at QB sometime today.

Ha that’s crazy! I think you can simply get treatment in Europe that’s not legal yet in the good ole US of A?

McCaffrey was getting some work done on his Achilles issues. Assuming some sort of injections he can’t get here. Who knows.

@rockchalkjayhawk They are doing more tests and don't expect answers until next week. I suspect the Hollywood Brown injury needing unexpected surgery 5 weeks after his injury has made them very cautious about making sure how extensive the injury is before deciding how to proceed (with both treatment and the roster). From what I remember from certain painful events of long ago, they may also be waiting for swelling to go down because it can make it hard to determine the true extent of soft tissue damage.

Can AJ Storr take over Kevin's scoring from last year? First off the bench: Clemence, Griffen, McDowell? Thank goodness KU basketball is getting started.

Depends who starts between Griffen and Mayo i guess. But main bench options to me are:

Passmoore / Moore when healthy / Bidunga / Griffen or Mayo (depends who starts)

Deep bench: Clemence (will play when Bidunga makes Self angry with Freshman mistake) / McDowell

2024 NFL Season • Sep 30, 2024 12:37 AM

i don't know how the Chiefs keep winning playing like this, but i'm happy about it!

Like the KU team, something seems off with the Chiefs. I for sure notice that defenses are putting more pressure on Mahomes this season. That's forcing him to make a quick decision, and he doesn't seem to be doing a good job of that. OR, his receivers aren't open and he's stuck with no good options. Hard to tell if that's true with TV angles. But he's making bad decisions again.

Some things now seem obvious:

-- Kareem Hunt is the new starting RB. That may be the last we see of the UCLA rookie Steele. The fumble seemed abnormal. I for one don't like how he holds the football with his dangerous running style, but he's exciting of course!

-- With Rice maybe out for the year (that's a HUGE hit!), we're gonna need a WR to step up. Who's it gonna be? Free agent? Anybody notice JuJu on the field today?

-- Cut Skyy Moore immediately. he serves no purpose. Surely a cheap veteran can do better? (I know, i know, cap hit, blah blah blah).

Anyway, a road win is a road win. Always happy about that!! Just seems like it may be tough to skate by like this the rest of the year. Hope i'm wrong.

Question of the day: Will I be happy or sad that i don't have ESPN+ to watch the game today?

Always fun to watch and root for the Jayhawks, but man the last few have been heartbreaking and disappointing!

The positives today:
— somehow I got ESPN+ for free! Or they are secretly charging me. Better check my statements.

The negatives:

— just about everything else?

JD made some good plays, but some bad ones as well. He didn’t look inept, but he appeared lacking in what you want in a starting QB.

His box score stats aren’t great.

Something’s broken with this team.

Three big plays stood out to me today:

— the TCU special teams return TD. Pathetic effort. A flag would have helped us there. Seemed like a clear block in the back. Still pathetic.

— TCU TD by No 88 at the start of the second half.
The tackling efforts displayed by KU were embarrassingly bad. A simple push out of bounds would have stopped that multiple times.

— JD has zero sense of game awareness. That pick was absolutely unacceptable at that point of the game. Game over.

A general thought on college refs: I only watch KU football, but wow are they bad at times. Did you see the ref grab the TCU kid by the arm in the end zone after his run back TD? And that KU catch that was ruled a non catch seemed shockingly inept.

Stupid Jayhawks.

Crazy story: awhile back i signed up for a presale through the Tmobile Arena website. Tickets were supposed go on sale Oct. 4, with a presale on Oct. 3. So, i marked my calendar, got my plane tickets lined up. As luck would have it, i was looking around on Facebook and happened upon a post from KU Athletics that tickets were on sale now for KU Duke on their Facebook site. I'm like, huh???? BAM, tickets were actually on sale yesterday morning! I was shocked, but hurried to buy up a few. There weren't too many left.

Lucked out. i can't imagine my options on Oct. 3 would have been as good. :)

@rockchalkjayhawk this yr?

After reading the copy/paste below, i'm a bit confused if i should have a complaint about another streaming service. Seems unclear if it's just CBS network games, or if more on streaming. Can you make sense of it? @Crimsonorblue22

CBS Sports and the Big 12 Conference have expanded their partnership by significantly increasing the number of Big 12 men’s college basketball games across the Network’s platforms. The multi-year deal, which runs through the 2026-27 season, is through a sublicense agreement with ESPN.

As part of its extensive regular-season schedule, CBS Sports already broadcasts a minimum of six Big 12 men’s college basketball games annually on CBS, with those games streaming live on Paramount+. This new agreement adds 20 games per year to air on CBS Sports Network to bring the total number of Big 12 men’s basketball games to at least 26 per season across CBS Sports platforms.

Well OK my wife may argue otherwise…

Just astounded that this is acceptable. Who builds half a stadium and prays they have the money for the rest????

Look at the schedule! • Sep 25, 2024 03:30 PM

@dylans said in Look at the schedule!:

@wissox I see it a little different - The home slate has two great games - UNC and Arizona. The rest are ok, but only because KU is playing. Half the best games are on the road. Ugg. The schedule is nice for TV viewing, but the in Lawrence slate isn’t worth the price of season tickets to this cat - $18k for 2 seats not in the rafters. Hard pass. I’m looking forward to tv viewership, but it’s gotten pretty cost prohibitive to attend with any regularity. - will have to attend the @wissox way, buy gen admin and look for unsold seats on Stubhub to get closer. šŸ˜‚

Speaking of TV viewership, that’s actually getting harder and more expensive for the average Joe.

I understand the Big 12 now has a steaming deal with CBS and Paramount+.

Yet another streaming service we all have to buy to watch a KU hoops game.

It’s nice that we have an option to watch, but @#$!!

New Stadium questions • Sep 25, 2024 03:17 PM

New Stadium questions • Sep 24, 2024 11:14 PM

@approxinfinity said in New Stadium questions:

@rockchalkjayhawk did we literally only get half funded?

Maybe not even! Still fundraising. A Piecemeal stadium project makes no sense to me. It’s gonna look pretty stupid if we play in a half new stadium for awhile. Fail.

From a few months ago

The second phase, which would in some way revamp the stadium’s east stands and potentially its south end, has been far more enigmatic.

Goff said in April that the timeline for such a project was ā€œunknown as it standsā€ and that KU didn’t yet have the funding to undertake it.

On Thursday, though, Goff suggested that as KU approaches its fundraising goal of $250 million for phase one, it’s also having some ā€œreally important, active conversations that we’re hopeful can be catalysts to then moving us with momentum into planning for phase two.ā€

New Stadium questions • Sep 24, 2024 09:00 PM

OK, silly question for stadium financing experts ...

If i go get a haircut, i don't get half my hair cut.

If i go to the store to buy some cookies, i don't buy half a cookie.

Why on Earth are we only getting HALF a football stadium?

What sense does that make? Zip zero zilch to me.

Have your funding in place then build? Or build what you can afford?

Bewildered.
