Must win tomorrow! • Sep 21, 2024 09:12 PM

Ok, where were those boot camp photos? Time for hoops.

Must win tomorrow! • Sep 21, 2024 09:10 PM

At least it was dramatic.

Must win tomorrow! • Sep 21, 2024 09:07 PM

Easier to watch with zero expectation.

Must win tomorrow! • Sep 21, 2024 09:07 PM

We may not win a game this year?

Must win tomorrow! • Sep 21, 2024 09:00 PM

This feels like rinse and repeat. Do we have to watch the end of this game?

Must win tomorrow! • Sep 21, 2024 06:57 PM

Two hour delay? wowzers.

Just when we had the mobile QB of theirs tiring out. damn.

Must win tomorrow! • Sep 21, 2024 06:07 PM

I'm taking credit for that pick with my comment above!

Must win tomorrow! • Sep 21, 2024 06:05 PM

OK it'd be nice if we could settle down on D and not let the big plays happen.

Must win tomorrow! • Sep 21, 2024 04:41 PM

Cmon D!

But, JD has been running for his life on every play. Our line isn't giving him any protection

But yea, that isn’t helping him.

Must win tomorrow! • Sep 21, 2024 04:13 PM

I think JD should be getting passes off before running for his life. Not seeing the field.

Must win tomorrow! • Sep 21, 2024 04:11 PM

Wow. Straight to the bench.

Must win tomorrow! • Sep 21, 2024 04:07 PM

Someday I’d like a real football coach to explain soft zone coverage defense. I don’t get it. We got two of the best CBs, use em?

Must win tomorrow! • Sep 21, 2024 03:58 PM

Ok, I did the freeze frame on that sack…he was offsides.

I dont think this is a title roster. Zero defense.

I'm gonna upgrade the zero defense to 35% defense.

Harris for 20%, KJ for 10% and Hunter gets 5% for blocks.

There's potential to upgrade to 55% defensive ability if Griffen decides to play some.

Or, i wonder if Self says screw it and tells Passmore his ticket to the floor is aggressive defense from the start. Griffen as a bench spark.

That would bump up the grade as well!

Watched the Jets last night. I for one am a little surprised that QB Rodgers has looked good so far.

New Stadium questions • Sep 19, 2024 06:22 PM

I see there are some shenanigans happening with stadium construction and funding.

Predictably predictable. I hope this doesn't get ugly. I'd hate to see it turn into a battle of KU vs Lawrence, et al.

Get er done ya boneheads!

2024 NFL Season • Sep 16, 2024 08:32 PM

Surprised Hunt would want to come back to KC.

2024 NFL Season • Sep 16, 2024 07:26 PM

So let's talk about the engine that's missing a piston...

Travis Kelce is invisible this year. Four catches for 39 yards in the first two games.

What gives? Taylor wear him out, or is he just getting old and in the way? Saving him for later in the season?

Odd for sure.

Crap on Jeff Grimes thread • Sep 14, 2024 06:15 PM

@approxinfinity said in Crap on Jeff Grimes thread:

@rockchalkjayhawk yeah, i mean, i’m just wondering if switching to Ballard is giving up our chances of righting the ship. First half Daniels was great until the last minute INT. I would bet on him getting his head straight being our highest ceiling still, and also our safest bet. So… dont start him and bring him in if Ballard falls flat?

To me, JD's intelligence and decision making seem like low points.

I just get the overcompensation vibe right now from him, too. He just looks like he has fake confidence. maybe after a long time off? Maybe still hiding or recovering from his back injury?

Dude's been playing college ball for 4 years now, so something weird is happening.

I don't think we know enough about Ballard to make the call, but he seemed at least capable in limited views.

Crap on Jeff Grimes thread • Sep 14, 2024 04:29 PM

@approxinfinity said in Crap on Jeff Grimes thread:

Does anyone have an informed opinion about whether switching to Ballard right now would give us a better chance of winning or not?

Last year is way too long ago for me to remember!

2023 stats. 4 games, 1 TD, 3 INTs, 55% completions, 115 passer rating, 75 yards rushing.

UNLV - Any Bets? • Sep 14, 2024 03:57 AM

I must have missed this fake injury, or was too steamed at the moment to notice. When? What happened?

UNLV - Any Bets? • Sep 14, 2024 03:31 AM

Well crap. Just finished watching. I’m speechless but not speechless at the same time.

Steamed.

Just like last week, as the game progressed, I felt there was no way we could lose. We clearly seemed the superior team.

Then JD crapped the bed multiple times and situational awareness went out the window. Do coaches not actually coach these players and tell them what’s important in that moment???

I would assume on the last first half drive before the JD interception a coach or two would say:

ā€œJD, no need to be a hero here. We have a nice lead and we can keep it even if we don’t get a first down. Take what they give you. Be smart.ā€

JD: ā€œOK coach, I’ll throw it randomly into double coverage to a guy who isn’t open.ā€

Wtf??? Why JD? Maintain the lead and momentum! My god.

HUGE lack of Situational awareness. Idiotic.

Random thought amid rant: Coach Grimes, PLEASE throw that interception waiting to happen WR screen play out of the playbook. Pretty please. Now. You won’t regret it.

The near fumble recovery. Hard play, not easy to totally fault this one as lack of situational awareness, but defenders, we’re winning! Fall on the freaking fumbled ball! Again, no need to be a hero!

Another comedy of errors. No reason to lose that game.

Wait, as I write this news breaks even after the game: JD with yet another unnecessary pick!

Is coaching to blame here? Or is JD that dumb?

He made some good plays today! That’s the sad part.

Unbelievable loss in a great atmosphere.

So steamed. But I guess it’s Kansas football. We should know better? Was last year a fluke?

2024 NFL Season • Sep 13, 2024 10:14 PM

I wonder if the Chiefs bring in another deep threat WR somehow. Wouldn’t surprise me.

I didnt really watch the New Zealand game. The previous game, I wasnt that down on our play to be honest. I saw us play much directly/vertically than ever under Berhalter and I think we will need some of that to unlock the potential we have. It never felt like we were out of the game. It would have felt over with Bethalter with 20 to go as he salted away our chances.

I remain extremely optimistic. Trust in Poch and give him time. I think we will see many different players get looks as he sorts out what he has.

I'm gonna have to rewatch the Canada game one of these nights. I was semi sorta maybe kinda napping during most of it TBH. zzz.

Canada is not a bad team. I think our record is 3-5-2 in 2024 so far? That is the most uninspiring part!

Bring on Poch! I hope he can instill some sort of plan or confidence ASAP. Next games are in October i think.

Can he find two center backs by then? Maybe he's been doing some behind-the-scenes international recruiting we don't know about...ha.

Generic soccer thread • Sep 11, 2024 03:31 PM

The mighty New Zealand!

I hear they are nearly as good as Bucknell!

Oh how the mighty have fallen. This may be as down as I’ve ever been about the US soccer team. I am usually pretty excited to watch the games, but that enthusiasm is waning with the crap product on the field.

Jokes (or not) aside, the US squad at least played with some effort, but maybe lacked some other elements.

I guess there was no VAR, but maybe things would have been different with a 2-1 win if so. Maybe even 2-0. Our first goal was called off for a foul, but replay showed he got the ball. And the NZ goal seemed to go off dude’s arm?

Nitpicking, but a win would have inspired more confidence in this team. On to Poch!

Can we go a season or off-season without an injury, please?

Hmm, why the hell did we hire him? Best available?

Our #1 choice had leukemia and Grimes was the best available. 2 time Broyles finalist, not too shabby

@FarmerJayhawk Hey you seem to be the only poster standing up for Grimes. I don't know any better, so no clue, but why the positive tone when most others are down on him?

Really two things, first it’s faith in Lance. I don’t think he would hire someone who flat wasn’t any good. Honestly all of his assistant hires (on and off the field) so far have been really good. Second, it’s just Grimes’s record. 2 time Broyles finalist, shoot even made Zach Wilson look great. One off night does not make a bad coach. JD hits a couple throws that he should’ve and we’re talking hey love the aggressiveness/let Jalon cook

Fingers crossed your faith and Lance's faith prove undebatable on the field!

@rockchalkjayhawk did you watch the match against Canada?

Sadly I did. U?

I was watching pregame, and the pundits made some points I agreed with entirely. Motivation and effort. Entirely lacking at times in recent games, and as this game progressed. That used to be our calling card.

Take the first 20 minutes of the game as an example: FOUR guys were left wide open in the box on different plays. Where’s the personal motivation to stop the opposing team? I don’t get it.

Not a good effort. I know we had some different players out there, but still.

I hope this is the result of not having a coach!

Let’s talk Illinois • Sep 08, 2024 06:29 PM

The Day After...I guess our title hopes are dashed? Ha. I'm still happy with a bowl game. Always my goal until proven otherwise.

I will say many of us KU fans hoped the program had turned some kind of corner. Maybe we're stuck in the traffic circle still.

Illinois seems like a team that kept things close in most games last year. Maybe not as bad a loss as we think, but that sure seemed like a game we could have and should have won. In fact i wasn't even worried after a few bad plays and turnovers. I thought we'd come back and dominate easily. Then stupidity kinda set in. Why can't the adults on the sideline see what the rest of us were seeing? Make the right play calls! Put people in position to succeed! Seems pretty simple viewing from the couch. I don't really know the coaches, so i cant say if Grimes or his understudy are capable. Something went drastically wrong. I hope they can fix whatever "it" is.

Like others, i think i saw a grimace on JD's face early on. Maybe he was hurt? I know i'm just waiting for it to happen. Not wishing for it of course, but always a worry when the back is involved.

On to next week.

An update on the Peacock NFL watching experience…

Insert as many profanities as possible here…absolute horseshit. I’m on the west coast, so couldn’t really catch the game live to start. I tried to watch a replay hours after the game ended, and even tried to watch a replay this morning. NOPE!

Not available. Incredible. WTF kinda service is this? Surely I’m not the only human on the planet that can’t always watch a game live.

Cancelling with extreme prejudice.

Couple of observations:

While Xavier got two TDS, Rice is most important WR for Chiefs offense.

Nick B was lost, not a good start, Gay was missed. KC needs athletic LBs.

Overall DBs did a good job without Sneed.

Ravens are very tough and legit.

LB was a position of concern for me coming into the season. I thought they mostly played well. Helped stop the run. Bolton looked like a turtle on the Likely touchdown play though.

@rockchalkjayhawk you're a good sport, but at least we won, barely. I think we are missing sneed. What do u think?

Hey, a win vs a top team is a win! Happy about that. I thought the defense played well. Super tough to non-traditionally defend against Lamar. Ya never know what he’s gonna do. The D line was mostly great til they got winded. No real issues with the secondary. They made some good plays. The Baltimore touchdowns did seem preventable though.

Go Chiefs! And screw Peacock! :)
