Sounds like Florida State and Clemson are begging for SEC entries.

IMO the ACC is up next for realignment, despite having a long term media deal in place.

All cuz of that dumbass slippery sticker on the court?

That sucks.

Hoping for a quick recovery.

Disney+ is great but announced they are raising the subscription 20-30%. My point is not to dissuade you because I switched xfinity cable for YouTubeTV a year or so ago and it has been great. I probably saved a bit of $$ in the first few months. But as was mentioned, Google increased the price of YTTV and Netflix increased and now Disney+. So there may not be much water to squeeze out of this rock soon.

Mother effers! :)

@mayjay agreed. It looks like the civic center where the games are played was extensively damaged.

Sounds pretty grim and I would also expect them to move this tournament to Honolulu rather than take resources away from critical infrastructure and shelter, etc.

I think the Civic Center is intact. No college campus there. Chaminade flies over from another island (weird).

But I don’t see how they can play the tourney there this year. The life support for tourism on that side of the island evaporated when downtown Lahaina burned to the ground. Just shocking. It’s possible, but unlikely.

I can imagine the logistics of finding lodging for all these teams will be difficult that time of year on the islands. Fans, too.

I have a tear in my eye for that area, having been there multiple times (twice for the tourney). It’s just leveled.

2023-24 Non-confernce Schedule • Aug 11, 2023 12:32 AM

Man, sure does look bad. Downtown restaurant/entertainment district is toast. Gonna have to start from scratch. How awful!

Maybe they'll move it to another island.

Ditto for everything rckchljhwk said about Youtube TV. We watch a lot of stuff on Amazon Prime (where we added PBS/Masterpiece to wallow in Britsh police shows), and Netflix. Also have MAX (HBO) but they have reduced their selection so much we will probably cancel that one.

Used to have Fubo, but they don't carry any Turner related stations, so we had to add Sling for March Madness. Then discovered it didn't have TCM. Youtube TV has all those (plus Hallmark & HGTV channels for the distaff half of our household).

Might be a lot but we don't go out a lot (no movies since 2019!), and the evenings here on what has been called Hell's Front Porch are too hot for about 5 months a year (buggy for 12) to sit out much. We enjoy relaxing and just being old people!

The MAX app is just crap. Half the stuff i try to watch is just scrambled and unwatchable. I'm cancelling until they can sort that out. unfortunate!

Just like you, I reevaluated my Comcast service years ago. After a ton of comparison research, I switched to YouTube TV.

My main goal was to lower the bill.

At that point, I figured I saved about $150 or so per month.

But, as Farmer mentioned, YTTV seems to be raising pricing consistently. I’m still way below the Comcast bill, but I fear within years that savings will be less.

$72.99 per month for the base plan. I think I started out at $54 a month???

During NFL season I “add on” the $10.99 per month Sports Plus package — RedZone, baby! Also includes beIN sports, Fox Soccer Plus, etc.

And they just added NFL sunday ticket for $299 per season if you want it.

You can of course add movie channels as well, which are not in the base plan. They start about $10 per month.

So, my peak YTTV bill is about $100 a month.

If you wanna watch KU basketball games, you’ll need ESPN+, but not thru YTTV.

Of course you can’t ditch Comcast entirely — you’ll need internet service. So, up your total bill to $180ish (depending on where you live). I highly recommend calling Comcast late at night when switching. Less emphasis on sales, asking, begging you to stay with cable.

Per the service…

— unlimited DVR rocks.

— I’ve run into a few issues streaming thru the YTTV app on my Sony 4K TV. Some were fixable, but not with obvious ways to fix. I also tried streaming thru both Google Chromecast and Apple TV. Both worked without issues, but the picture was not nearly as good.

— customer service is good, helpful.

— there are some rare kinks when DVRing non regular stuff. I try to DVR all US soccer games, but sometimes the coding or descriptions they use for the program are effed up, and the DVR doesn’t see it,

— I get a ton of channels, and don’t think I miss any important ones.

Chiefs signings • Aug 08, 2023 08:28 PM

Yea, i dunno how the Chiefs could afford/convince him to sign way below market rate -- whatever that is these days.

Puerto Rico! • Aug 07, 2023 07:16 PM

Sure was fun being able to watch some KU hoops in August!

You can't take too much out of these games. Obviously you can see skillsets, how the new guys look.

Randomness:

-- Loved watching Elmarko! He seems relatively poised and solid. I'm not going to judge him on his 3 pt shooting just yet. His other skills will be important for us.

-- Hunter's stats at Michigan showed him as a good rebounder. Not sure he looked too great on the boards in PR. Just the eyeball test. did anybody look good on the boards?

-- Dajuan looked asleep at times. Maybe guarding Buddy and Gordon isn't easy! Too many pina coladas.

-- Timberlake. Interesting. Showed more athleticism than i thought he had. Drained a three or two. He may need some time to figure out how to get his shot in the offense.

-- Didn't see many positives out of Parker so far. At least today. The backup post seems like an issue so far. (insert KJ as a 5 talk here)

Chiefs signings • Aug 07, 2023 01:26 AM

The Chiefs have been linked with RB Josh Jacobs of the Raiders -- if he doesn't sign his $10M franchise tag deal and if the Raiders rescind the tag and if he decides to leave. ha. complicated. I don't want no stinking Raiders!

Well, just finished watching.

What a great game the US played. Starkly different than previous games.

Epic choke in the PKs. Three shots entirely missed the net? Can't score unless it's on target.

Rapinoe. ugh. Loved her early on in her career, but i lose interest quickly in anybody in any sport who inserts politics and BS into my escape and joy of sports. Good riddance.

A disappointing world cup experience all around.

Generic soccer thread • Aug 06, 2023 05:27 PM

Ha. Absolutely incredible…I’m sure a few of you will sympathize with this sad (and anger filled) story!

With all my soccer posts, I’m sure it’s easy to see my passion for watching the US men and women play — not at Jayhawk basketball level, but close.

Decided to DVR the US womens game, as it wouldn’t end til 4 am or so in my neck of the woods. Couldn’t stay up that late.

Woke up, got the breakfast going, turned it on…then the wife walks in the room and proudly says, OH, THEY LOST!!!!

Incredible.

Thanks, sweetheart, I’ve only patiently watched every single build up game for years, and all World Cup games so far to get to this point! She don’t get it. Grrrr!!

The Big 12 conference • Aug 05, 2023 01:49 AM

Well, looks like it's official.

Arizona, Arizona State and Utah to the Big 12.

That should settle things for awhile -- in the B12 at least.

Next stop: East Coast!

The Big 12 conference • Aug 04, 2023 05:03 PM

And within seconds it’s changed again!

Oregon and Washington to BIG!

The Big 12 conference • Aug 04, 2023 04:53 PM

But wait, the drama continues!

Now it appears the Pac 12 is making a desperate attempt to KEEP Arizona and the Pac 12 intact.

Stay tuned!

The Big 12 conference • Aug 04, 2023 05:09 AM

Looks like the Big 12 is welcoming Arizona to the fold. They voted them in. Now it’s up to Arizona.

Apparently their regents met tonight, and will meet with the Pac 12 on Friday. They’re a “hard lean”.

Sounds like the regents would like to keep UofA and ASU together.

So, could be those two and Utah joining up pronto.

Puerto Rico! • Aug 03, 2023 05:17 PM

Switched to the Facebook stream. Fine now.

Puerto Rico! • Aug 03, 2023 04:58 PM

I must be getting old, struggling to get the “stream” to work. It’s freaking out.

The Big 12 conference • Aug 02, 2023 08:14 PM

And now add Cal and Stanford to that rumor...they are in preliminary discussions to join. wow.

That clears the way for the Arizonas and Utah to join the Big 12 once the conference collapses. ugly.

Generic soccer thread • Aug 01, 2023 11:46 PM

Looking that way @approxinfinity .
Fingers crossed they can pull it together and beat Sweden (?).

@#$&*!

My god, as feared Portugal nearly finished it in the 90th minute. Saved by the woodwork!

Generic soccer thread • Aug 01, 2023 08:06 AM

I decided to stay up late for the US game. Zzz.

Another ugly, ugly effort so far in the first half.

Just smiled as Alexi Llalas said the same thing I’ve been saying…”Crystal Dunn doesn’t look like she’s played soccer before!”

So funny, but so sad.

This team is just a giant dud in the first half. No life, no skill, no energy. They better pick it up next half. A tie is fine, but I’d hate a tight game then Portugal puts one in late. The US would be sent packing!

Portugal is just stuffing the midfield, clogging passing, dribbling lanes for the US. Vlatko once again has no answer.

Let’s go!

The Big 12 conference • Aug 01, 2023 04:32 AM

rumor that the Big Ten will add Washington, Oregon, FSU, and Clemson this week.

That will pretty much open the door for the Arizonas and Utah to the Big 12?

NFL Draft - 2023 • Jul 31, 2023 04:21 PM

Holdouts and contract demands in the NFL have never made sense to me.

And why do NFL teams give in if a guy is under contract?

Shut up and play.

The Big 12 conference • Jul 31, 2023 04:25 AM

Reading a bit more on realignment today…

Seems like common knowledge to insiders that Oregon and Washington are holding out for the Big 10 or whatever it’s called — and aren’t good fits for the Big 12 for some unexplained reason.

Also read that the Big 12 commish cherry picked the wobbliest Pac 12 team (Colorado) to cause some chaos, wait for the next wobbler to bite. Arizona seems like the likeliest 14th team.

When will it happen? Who knows.

The Big 12 conference • Jul 27, 2023 06:52 PM

2024 teams: Baylor, BYU, Cincinnati, Colorado, Houston, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas Tech, UCF, West Virginia.

The Big 12 conference • Jul 27, 2023 06:34 PM

Well, seems like a worthy topic now that Colorado appears to be back in the fold.

Who's next?

I can't see Oregon joining.

Generic soccer thread • Jul 27, 2023 04:55 PM

Yea, from the git go I was steamed at Dunn. Maybe she didn’t play as bad in the second half, but my ire was up!

And I’m never steamed at Dunn! Really odd game for her.

I thought Demelo did some good things.

Generic soccer thread • Jul 27, 2023 07:32 AM

Massive clunker of a first half tonight vs Netherlands.

Absolutely, and shockingly, outclassed in every way. Wow! Very surprising.

Their 3-5-2 ish system just perplexed us. Vlatko deserves a first half F for failure to adjust in any way.

Crystal Dunn was comically bad. By far the worst I’ve ever seen her play. Her passing was awful. Really awful. Plus she effed up tremendously on the first goal.

The second half was way better! Way better. The commentators believe it was because the Dutch lost a key defender at the half. They also switched to a 4-4-2, oddly. Why change what was working well?

That allowed the US some success in the midfield, and in pressing. They possessed the ball and had some good chances. A lot of it because my girl Rose came in the game!! Love her play.

Vlatko, however, deserves another F for his failure to sub in more than Rose. The front line was clearly done cookin, and Dunn continued to suck.

I know the Netherlands is good. A tie felt fair.

But now, with the Netherlands left with Vietnam, goal differential could mean a second place finish for the US. We didn’t score many vs Vietnam.

Assuming of course that we beat Portugal!

Generic soccer thread • Jul 22, 2023 04:50 PM

Yea, and it doesn’t help that this roster is not as famous as with previous years.

Also didn’t help with that weird ass lineup last night. I get it, rest some players.

I likely won’t watch any game other than the US.

Generic soccer thread • Jul 22, 2023 06:33 AM

A dominating 3-0 win over Vietnam tonight.

That’s the good part. Never tested. Never a concern.

The bad part…everything else. Wow was that some ugly play in the final third. Could hardly be worse. Passing, shooting, intelligent decisions all severely lacking (except of course Morgan’s brilliant flick assist).

Hoping they got the nerves out of the way. Vietnam parked the bus, but we shoulda scored many more.

Goal differential could come into play.

Generic soccer thread • Jul 20, 2023 07:57 AM

Ok, decided to stay up late to catch the first game of the women’s world cup! Zzz. Just realized it’s WINTER in Australia/New Zealand. Brilliant decision. Fire the idiot (s) who made that decision.

TBT • Jul 19, 2023 09:33 PM

Apologies for the ignorance...but this is a 5 on5 tourney? Young guys, old guys?

I see the other ones on TV lately are 3 on 3.

Welcome, Marcus Adams Jr.! • Jul 19, 2023 09:27 PM

Yea, only the elite few really know why he left (or was forced out cuz he sucked).

Either way, not the greatest look for the program IMO. I'd think if he was forced out, that Self would have at least spent a year with him to see if he had the slightest potential. Seems odd that it would be about his basketball skills. They should have known something about that coming in. Had to be personality. And that, to us simple message board peeps who dunno these players up close and personal, we'll never know! maybe.

Milt!

Ouch for McKennie!

McKennie has been excluded from Juve's squad for the trip to the US, along with club captain Bonucci. the players who have not been selected to travel with the squad have been told to find a new club, as they will not be considered for selection in 2023-24.

Along with being excluded from the squad, it has been reported that Weston McKennie and Bonucci have been told that they are to have no contact with manager Massimiliano Allegri and to train with the youth team. McKennie spent the second half of last season on loan at Leeds, as the club were relegated to the Championship. Bonucci has made 502 appearances for the Serie A giants.
