UConn coach also thinks his coaching box includes 4 ft of the court when the ball is in play. Every made basket by the opponent, he's 4 ft on the court talking to his guard as he brings the ball up. Mgbako started for Indiana but no help offensively or defensively in the first half.

KU fans have really endured a lot of QB uncertainty this year. And not much reliable information from the staff and media.

MAUI WOWIE TOURNAMENT • Nov 18, 2023 03:28 PM

Really O'ahu, but still Hawaii. What a field: #1, #2, #4, #7, #11, and UCLA. Possible Dickinson/Edey match up. I know this won't happen and yes, I'm not a HOF coach, but I sure wish Coach would limit the starters to 20 minutes or so against Charminade. Our guys ran out of gas in the third game of the Bahama's tourny last year and got thumped by Tennessee 64-50. The Charminade game should give Coach the opportunity to rest the starters and get some good minutes in for the bench which was barely noticeable on the scoreboard during the Kentucky game. KU must get points from Parker, Johnny and Nic; the Charminade game is perfect to get the bench a bunch of extra minutes. But, I'm still expecting to see the starters on the floor with 6 minutes to play, then the substitutions start.

I noticed that Calipari, like Bruce Weber frequently is on the court while the ball is in play. Coach Self does a nice job of staying on the side line and in the coaching box.

2023-2024 Statistics • Nov 17, 2023 12:22 PM

I'm guessing our message board will be cut in half for the Charminade game since it plays opposite of the Chiefs/Eagles Monday Night Football game. This Kentucky game thread was the best that I recall. Of course it helps that KU won.

DaJuan Appreciation Thread • Nov 16, 2023 10:46 AM

Juan was really perfect from 3 against Kentucky; his only miss was a heave at the end of the shot clock in the last few minutes of the game. So, on real 3 pt shot attempts he was 5/5. That will teach Calipari and other coaches not to pull back the defense when Juan has the ball outside the 3 pt line. I don't think Juan will get as many wide open looks in the future as he had against Kentucky.

What to Expect at the Champions Classic? • Nov 15, 2023 01:03 PM

Does KU not have the conditioning or the will to defend hard in the first halves of games? Kentucky took wide open 3s all first half, hitting 10. But, only made 2 3s in the second half. Why oh why is my team always down by several possessions at the half of big games? Like Coach Self, this shit is hard on my cardiovascular system.

What to Expect at the Champions Classic? • Nov 15, 2023 11:28 AM

I could look at Hunter's line in the box score all day. What a game. But, I'm drawn to the line of KU's Ironman, Mr. "I'll shoot when the team needs it." Juan played 38 min, went 5/6 from 3 and scored 23 frickin pts when KU need it.

Anybody notice Self is much calmer?

And Coach looks so much better physically. Hey, what was up with the BS comment Calipari made to Coach during the half court interview at the start of the game about 2 championship games? It seemed to me Cal was trying to take a shot at Coach and Coach seemed surprised or unprepared for Cal's comment.

Who on this board predicted, thought, imagined... that after 2 games, Parker averages 10 pts, 5 rbs and 2.5 assists in 18.5 min? And our mate from down under, Johnny in the same minutes averages 10.5 pts and 4 rbs. I sure hope these two help KU tonight.

@DanR said in What to Expect at the Champions Classic?:

Was Kentucky planning on playing 3 footers at the same time? I wish, but I doubt that. It'd be a fast break blowout.

That's what Kentucky fans believe will be their route to victory tonight: run, run, run and leave plodder Dickinson in the dust. Kentucky starters are all averaging double digits in scoring, but against NM St and TxAM-Commerce. Coach Cal hasn't played very many guys during their first two games.

What to Expect at the Champions Classic? • Nov 12, 2023 04:03 PM

With 2 solid games in the record books where everyone played well and scored easily, I wonder if the guys, especially the young guys will play much tighter during the Kentucky game. Big Damn Game, right? 23,000 seat arena; national broadcast. Then on to Maui. I don't believe in the "early losses don't matter; we're just trying to build on team chemistry for March" stuff. As a fan, I want KU to beat the snot out of Kentucky and maybe shut their rabid, foaming at the mouths fans down just a bit. I doubt that our players have the same animosity for Kentucky that most KU fans have. I haven't seen a spread yet. KU should be favored by 8 pts. or so.

Why in the hell was the OC calling QB keeper plays when Bean's backup is a Fr walk-on? KC learned its lesson when Mahomes got hurt on a QB sneak against Denver. Sure, the QB Bean keeper plays were working but the cost was way too high. Cole Ballard did his best, but our offense needed a game tested QB.

Ok KU's second string QB gets knocked out of the game while running the ball. Now our whatever string QB Ballard is running the ball. How many QBs do we have that can actually move this offense?

Patrick Mahomes' presence at the game today probably won't be noticed by the players. It's more of a media thing where Mahomes will be shown repeatedly during the game.

I sure hope our Johnny Baskets has more success and is a better person than Johnny Football. Maybe we shouldn't hang such a loaded nickname on this young man.

TexTech Offense Numbers • Nov 11, 2023 12:45 PM

RB Brooks comes to The Booth with 1,037 rushing yds on 193 carries. Big numbers, but mainly because TT second rusher has only 32 carries. Devon Neal has almost 60 fewer carries than Brooks, with Neal carrying 136 times for 828 yds and Hammerin' Hishaw carrying 89 times for 517 yds. KU offense out rushes TT 1,783 to 1,554 and both have nearly identical passing yds, 2,100. I really hope KU gets the ground game going this morning, then sprinkles in some long passes to our WRs, who are just tearing it up with great, NFL-like catches.

Other bball games • Nov 11, 2023 12:19 PM

The Kentucky box score against TexAM-Commerce is interesting: Cal only played 7 players, Tre Mitchell and 6 guards. The starters all played 10 more minutes than our guys played. The lineup looks more like February, than November. I don't follow Kentucky enough to know their other players. I saw a post that said K's 3, 7 footers weren't ready to play. Someone posted that the NCAA hasn't cleared 7'2", "Z" Ivisic, freshman from Croatia to play. Tuesday, 8:30 can't get here soon enough for me. Duke2/MichSt4 has much less appeal now that both have early season losses.

Manhattan Jaspers, Who? • Nov 11, 2023 03:13 AM

Back to students sitting courtside (for the last time this year), Michigan St is like Cameron in that the first 10 rows around the court is student seating. The section above the student seating is elevated so the alums can sit and still see if the students stand. A thread on Rupp Rafters discussed the same thing I mention and the posters complained there was no energy for most games at Rupp with the alums sitting courtside. Nuff said.
