Ridiculous flop by a Missou special teams player. Stupid and sad that players think they need to cheat with a flop to gain some advantage. Fortunately, the refs didn't fall for it.

Arterio Morris • Sep 16, 2023 04:07 PM

I'm always right about these things, well usually right, OK really just guessing like everyone else including the stupid and always anti-KU Kansas City Star: this suspension was already planned when Morris came to KU. The class A assault had been charged in June, 2022 so even Texas knew about it when Morris played there last year. This suspension comes on the heels of Morris's Nolo plea to a reduced charge, a Class C misdemeanor, which carried a small fine. So, unless the basketball staff knows more about the McCarthy incident than was reported to campus police, it appears this suspension was already in the works when Morris decided to come to KU. Only the KC Star is attempting to link the suspension to the August campus police report, which is what the Star does with all things KU Basketball. If the suspension is related only to the Dallas conviction, I believe Morris will be suspended for several games, then reinstated. Jalen Wilson was suspended 4 games for a DUI, so I expect something similar to that for Arterio Morris. Unlesssssssss, he was involved in something else. We will have to wait and see.

Awful news if true. I know sometimes guys get accused because they're minor celebrities or whatever.

Let's remember the initial allegations against Charlton Bragg and the outcome after the full investigation; very fortunate to find the stairwell video. I know Bragg's association with KU turned out negative, but remember allegations are just that and need to be fully investigate. Morris's suspension might not be related to the August rape allegation at McCarthy because one news report says Morris wasn't even mentioned in the campus police report. But, this is another black eye for the activities at McCarthy Hall and the rumors/allegations hurt KU as much as the truth from the final investigation.

I cheer any team playing Missouri and crow every Missouri loss. I don't focus or care about what other fans do or think about KU. I will continue to scream my head off over everything KU(just ask my wife) and root against KU's rivals, even if it means hoping KState beats Missou. Today, KState is the lesser of the evils and any SEC loss helps the Big 12.

Interesting Games Today? • Sep 15, 2023 11:29 AM

Looking ahead to Saturday Big 12 action, there isn't a must see game. If I can find it, I'll watch KSt/Mizzou at 11am and hope KSt crushes, humiliates, gutter stomps them. I guess TCU/Houston and BYU/Ark are OK. At least watching BYU at 6:30 on ESPN2 will give us a heads up on next Saturday's game. Our 9:30 game will give us some insight into Jalen's health. Good grief, the sports world is just falling all over itself over Coach Prime. The Colo/ColoSt game gets an ESPN slot at 9pm.

KU game Saturday and Neveda. • Sep 13, 2023 04:45 PM

I don't suppose the 9:30 start time will bother KU players; I think I remember having decent energy after 9pm when I was in college. Sleeping until noon helped. I wonder if Jalon will be allowed to stay in the game to improve his offensive numbers or whether he sits after KU builds a decent lead to get him ready for BYU. Probably, I'll have to check the comments here on Sunday to see what happened.

Pregaming Illinois • Sep 11, 2023 02:15 PM

Such a terrifically hot start by both the offense and the defense against Illinois. Hopefully, that is the new personality of this year's team. Our offense ran 44 rushing plays, 11 by Daniels and 29 pass attempts. I'm sure KU ran the ball more in the 4th Q to eat clock, but I still would like to see Daniels run less and throw more passes. Try to limit Daniels to 5 rushes a game and a couple more long pass attempts to open up our fantastic running backs. Poor Nevada; I have simpathy for their players since not so long ago KU was in a similar position. I fully expect a big first half by the offense; if the Vandals(who?) can pass for 313 and rush for 150, it should be a track meet for our offense.

Our QB started out and had me thinking he's not an elite passer but he snapped out of it and made some excellent passes and when he takes off running he becomes truly special.

Daniels is certainly a much better passing QB than Bean, but I give a lot of credit to our receivers on those bullet passes that don't seem to be catchable mid-flight.

Interesting Games Today? • Sep 10, 2023 02:05 PM

By the way, what the hell play was Texas trying to run on 4th and 1 in the 4th Q? They had two players lined up behind the center, then the snap was fumbled or never reached whichever player was to receive it. Crazy play that failed miserably at a critical time in the game. Of course, the refs blew it too, but who can blame them when you have so many players behind center it was nearly impossible to even see the ball. Texas got lucky on the replay reversal. Why are KU and other teams struggling with short yardage play calling? Please stop running it up the middle expecting a different result.

Interesting Games Today? • Sep 10, 2023 01:51 PM

So, is Matt Campbell on the hot seat? He had the Cyclones rolling for several years. Maybe Iowa St alums are more patient with rebuilding than most fan bases.

Interesting Games Today? • Sep 09, 2023 10:12 PM

Does the Big 12 pick teams at random for schedules or is there a formula or win/loss weighing system? kjay mentions a draw; I can just imagine the NBA's bingo machine with the team names on ping pong balls and your schedule is determined by whichever teams' balls pop up?

Interesting Games Today? • Sep 09, 2023 07:44 PM

Nevada plays the formidable Idaho Vandals today at 6, but I don't see any TV coverage. Where is ESPN+ when I need them?

Pregaming Illinois • Sep 09, 2023 05:29 PM

Has KU stopped sounding the gong on third down? I loved the gong when I was at the game.

Interesting Games Today? • Sep 09, 2023 05:27 PM

Alternating with the Baylor/Utah game in Waco on ESPN. I really hope Baylor bounces back. Currently ahead 10-3.

Interesting Games Today? • Sep 09, 2023 04:58 PM

Just like our game, the refs have flag fever in the Nebr/Colo game. Too many flags guys; you're ruining the game

Pregaming Illinois • Sep 09, 2023 01:55 PM

I was impressed and somewhat dazzled by Coach Kotelnicki's offensive sets and plays in the first half. Similar to what the Chiefs do to confuse the defense. Several times sitting at home, I had no idea which of our players even had the ball. While the second half was a huge disappointment, Neal's and Hishaw's long rushes in the second half were just enough to keep the Illini from getting good enough field position to score. I sure wish Hishaw had gotten one more rush to push him over 100 yds, but 120 for Neal and 98 for Hishaw against what all the media said was a very good Big 10 defense was an outstanding job by the offense.

Marching band • Sep 09, 2023 12:36 PM

I've always loved the band. Such a great tradition. Cooler weather is on the way, so I would expect the band to back in their appropriate uniforms. RC

One benefit of a Friday Night win, is watching other games on Saturday knowing KU is 2-0. What games are you interested in today? Yeah, yeah, yeah there's Alabama/Tx at 6pm. But, I'm interested in the 11am game Nebraska at Colorado. Colorado is ranked for heaven's sake and a 3 pt favorite. Whoever at Nebraska scheduled this game certainly thought it was going to be an easy win, but now who knows. I watched a bit of last week's big upset against TCU. Junior QB Shedeur Sanders was terrific: 510 yds passing, 4TDs, no INTs. I'm cheering for another Nebraska beat down.

1. THOSE UNIS WERE FIRE!

And I really liked that the students got behind the black out. I really enjoyed ESPN's coverage of the crowd; everyone was having a great time. Does any other college stadium have a stupid beer garden? Now that KU has a great team and the fans are back in the stands, may we please get rid of the eye sore beer garden?

Pregaming Illinois • Sep 09, 2023 01:59 AM

So, is it about time to pull Daniels and let Bean finish this out? Save his back from further wear and tear. Also, Neal got is 100 yds. Time for the reserves?

Pregaming Illinois • Sep 09, 2023 01:21 AM

This openning series is going to tell us a lot about how the second half will go. I'm hoping for another KU 75 yd drive that takes 7 minutes off the Q

Pregaming Illinois • Sep 09, 2023 01:04 AM

Hishaw looks like he did before the injury last year.

Pregaming Illinois • Sep 09, 2023 12:47 AM

Daniels looks gassed.

Pregaming Illinois • Sep 09, 2023 12:17 AM

Wow, Casey again. Wow, great start.

Pregaming Illinois • Sep 08, 2023 11:54 PM

Nice start to this big game

Pregaming Illinois • Sep 08, 2023 11:30 PM

@jayballer67 Sorry, I'm not at the game; I'm just watching the pregame show.

Pregaming Illinois • Sep 08, 2023 11:06 PM

My first view of the "black Unis" but they have a lot of brown coloration instead of stark black. The sun was shining on them when I saw them. Maybe they will be more black under the lights.

Pregaming Illinois • Sep 08, 2023 02:44 PM

@jayballer67 If Jason Bean plays a lot of snaps, I sure hope he's learned from the Missouri St game not to throw into good coverage; that tendency will eventually be costly, especially against a good defense like Illinois.

Pregaming Illinois • Sep 08, 2023 11:30 AM

I sure wish JD would have been able to operate a couple of series last week to get his game legs back. Last year KU suffered from slow starts on offense and defense so KU was often/always playing catch-up. In the bowl game, KU was down 31-7 early in the second Q and down 31-13 at the half. I sure hope for a fast start on offense that will at least offset the typical slow start on defense.

Pregaming Illinois • Sep 05, 2023 05:38 PM

Side note: I looked up the definition of pregaming and found it defined as I would use the term tailgating. So, I'm using pregaming just to mean talking about the game before the game, with or without your favorite alcohol beverage.

Pregaming Illinois • Sep 05, 2023 01:02 PM

KU opens as a 3.5 favorite on ESPN. That's a step in the right direction. Stopping the Illini QB, Luke Altmyer is the key; Altmyer passed for 211(18/26) and rushed for 69 yds against Toledo. Running back Love(23) had 58 yds on 12 runs and WR, Bryant(13) had 6 rec. for 64 yds and 2 TDs. Huge game for our guys in black. ESPN2 at 6:30. I'm glad this is a short week. Oh, I think I saw that many students are back to leaving early. ESPN+ doesn't do much to show the crowd, but it appeared the student secton dwindled to about 50% by the 4th Q. I just can't imagine leaving a home game early when KU is playing well.

First Game Impressions • Sep 04, 2023 05:11 PM

I'm going to miss the 10 team conference where all teams played each other; conference results really meant something, but you could still argue home field advantage in the close losses. I still remember all the crap about the Orange B0wl team not being legit because KU didn't play the top Big 12 teams that year.

First Game Impressions • Sep 02, 2023 05:05 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 Any word on Borland's absence yesterday? I wonder if KU's defense would have been better with him making adjustments on the sidelines.

First Game Impressions • Sep 02, 2023 12:35 PM
  1. Terribly disappointed that Jalon Daniels wasn't able to play;
  2. Thank goodness Jason Bean stuck around; he's a decent backup but still overthrows receivers and throws too often into good coverage;
  3. Really wish Devan Neal got one more carry to push him over 100 for the game; he looked really good, as did all the running backs;
  4. Second biggest disappointment was the offensive line not being able to move a D2 line back on 3rd and 4th and 1;
  5. The defensive line and linebackers stopped the run all night holding the opponent to 74 yds. rushing. But it was M. St.
  6. Cole Ballard(15), not Ben Easters in the 4th Q; hmmmmmmmmmmm, interesting;
  7. The defensive secondary looked competent, getting 2 INTs and only allowing 143 yds; and
  8. Also disappointed that our board didn't get behind this game. Where was everybody?
Let's play ball guys /Kickoff • Sep 02, 2023 01:42 AM

Hishaw needs to get in a series. He should be a big part of our offense this year.

Let's play ball guys /Kickoff • Sep 02, 2023 12:45 AM

Pathetic, offense can't gain a yard against a D2 line.

So give your score this weekend • Sep 02, 2023 12:29 AM

KU run defense is stout

So give your score this weekend • Sep 02, 2023 12:28 AM

Stupid ESPN+ doesn't show the whole stadium. I have no idea how full the stadium is.

2023 Offensive Line • Aug 27, 2023 01:25 PM

What does everyone think about the Friday night games? Friday night seems better for student attendance and for broadcast viewers, but fans who live more than 2 or 3 hours away by car aren't likely to attend. Night games sure help to beat the afternoon heat, which is better for players and fans. I'm pretty sure I won't attend any more 90 degree and hotter games at Memorial Stadium. I really hope to see game attendance increase this year. Let's make Memorial(Booth) Stadium as unwelcoming for opponents as Allen Fieldhouse.

Let's Talk Defense • Aug 25, 2023 11:49 AM

I wondered last year whether changes would be made with our defensive coaching staff. The spotlight will certainly be on Brian Borland to establish a better defensive unit. Coaches Onatolu, defensive ends and Panagos, defensive tackles have many new faces to whip into an effective unit. I'm hoping to see the same level of improvement on defense this year that we saw on offense last year. We saw some timely defensive stops against WV and Duke last year. I lean toward optismism in August every year.

2023 Offensive Line • Aug 23, 2023 10:19 PM

I see that Coach Leipold's Hawk Talk starts Monday, Aug 28 at 6 on the Jayhawk Network. I always enjoy when the coaches finally release their depth chart. I remember the frustration when Coach Beaty waited until the first game to tell us the starting QB.

2023 Offensive Line • Aug 20, 2023 01:30 PM

Even though improvement on defense is more important, this time of year I always look first at the offensive line. One website lists our starters and it includes three new transfers:
LT, 52 Logan Brown, 6'6", 320-Jr Tr from Wisc;
LG, 67 Dominick Puni, Sr;
C, 50 Mike Novitsky;
RG, 76 Spencer Lovell 6'6" 330-RS,SR Tr from Cal; and
RT, 70 Kobe Baynes 6'4" 320-RS JR Tr from Louisville.
The two deeps are all familiar from last year: Livingston, Reed-Adams, Doiron, Ford and Cabeldue. So, KU is improving depth on the OL and hopefully the 3 transfers make KU's already good offense better.

Huggins Retires • Aug 15, 2023 08:41 PM

Is Coach Huggins going to continue to coach WV after the DUI and retired/not retired problems? Coach was treated as a first time offender and granted probation on the June DUI charge. I haven't heard anything new on his retracted retirement announcement. It seemed to me that WV was more than happy to move on when Huggy's retirement was first announced. Now what?

KU Welcomes Flory Bidunga • Aug 14, 2023 01:17 AM

The smilarities to JJ I had in mind were more about his youth sport being soccer, not basketball and when both came to the US, they were just being introduced to basketball; just starting to learn the game. We'll have to wait and see if Flory also had to fight a lion in his village.

KU Welcomes Flory Bidunga • Aug 13, 2023 03:33 PM

Great news and thanks to Flory Bidunga for picking KU. His background is so similar to Joel's that I imagine we will hear a lot of the similarities mentioned in the coming seasons. Way to go Coach Self and staff. RC

Puerto Rico! • Aug 07, 2023 01:46 PM

I love it: lineup controversies and discussions in August. Bring on the NBA players today. It will be good to see how Hunter matches up with Ayton. I'm most interested in his defense today. I was really surprised that Hunter scored 28 points last game. I watched the entire game and saw some good things from Hunter, but also poor rebounding for the tallest dude in the game and some lack of effort. But, I'm pretty impressed with his 28 points.

Puerto Rico! • Aug 06, 2023 05:56 PM

Well, all I'm going to say after watching the second game and looking at the box score is that this is another doomed season; are you kidding me: 14/27 FTs? Who amongst you can't go to a FT line right now and hit more that 50%. In years past, after losing a game at the line, I would go out to my driveway and shoot FTs just to see why these young guys make it look so sticking hard. Opponents seem to easily make their FTs. Doomed I tell you. JK

Puerto Rico! • Aug 06, 2023 01:05 AM

Maybe Hunter is just holding back a bit. In the third quarter, I finally got to see him with the ball in the paint and watched him work to get his shot. That's part of what I've been waiting to see with him. I haven't looked at a box score, but Juan had an unusually bad game with turnovers.

Puerto Rico! • Aug 05, 2023 10:25 PM
