@DanR I was typing my turnover comment about Pettifords when Kev made his
You just can't make stupid turnovers like that when we're losing by 14 points
That 5 on 4 was horrible execution
@Eric-san I agree!! I'm a cross country skier and I want to get out some!
Have there been any real TV timeouts this half?
Wow what a sequence!
@benshawks08 Uh, yes, kind of vegging right now waiting for students to come to class! Long week. Tired, brain farting, fingers mistyping, etc. etc.!
@Jethro Do you know how many ranked opponents we've played at home in the last 75 years? I'd guess around 25-30? Edit: 75 homegames!
Wow, this UCLA-Arizona St game is great fun. Amazing action including a 60 foot buzzer beater to end the first half. When UCLA joins the BIG I'll have a new more deadly villain than Fran to cheer against. Because Mick Cronin is a good coach but quite the unlikable character from what I've observed. While I don't like the idea of USC/UCLA switching leagues just like I don't like Texas and OU leaving seeing UCLA in the BIG does has some enticing allure to it. Gonna be some interesting games.
@DanR Ahh, good catch! When I wrote that it was before Tuesday night happened and before I saw anything on twitter.
Twitter showing KState fans for who they are and telling Tang to just worry about coaching. Those idiot fans are going to run him out of town first chance they get when things go a little sour. They're Nazareth and Jerome is Jesus. If you're unfamiliar when Jesus went back to Nazareth, the town he was raised in they rejected Him and the people ran him out of town to throw him off the nearby mountain and he did one of His miracles and just walked through them. He said He'd never go back there again.
@Jethro The picture I saw amazed me and I looked it up. Nearly 15,000 fans in the gym. Misery fans showing up.
But to chant FKU when we're not even in the house?
DePaul knocks off #8 Xavier. Didn't know Sleazy Sean Miller was coaching Xavier. Got them playing pretty well it looks like. But what is it about Cincinnati and college basketball teams attracting the scumbags of the coaching world?
Can this be true? The much ballyhooed octagon of doom had an attendance of 11,000 last night. Capacity listed for the O of Dumb is 12,528. Biggest game in years and they can't sell it out? I didn't hear Fran mention it wasn't a sellout.
@Texas-Hawk-10 Wow, that's a big 2nd half!
IDK, but I think you all are discrediting KState as a formidable opponent. KU didn't have their A game yet could have/should have pulled it off anyways. When you play a really good team in their super amped up gym and come away with an OT loss I don't see the sky as falling. McCullar had zero points because he only took 2 shots. 1 I remember he missed badly on a 3. He's mature enough to stop shooting when his shot isn't there. So a zero point, 5 foul game has bad optics I agree, but he contributed 7 boards, played some D like he always does.
In short, this isn't a bad loss. If anything it's showing a trend for this team to start out slowly before making a stirring comeback. It'd be kind of nice for us fans to just see them do as they did to WVU and kind of cruise through the entire match.
@rockchalkjayhawk As you can see in my post I was in your camp but last night just pushed me out to the dark side. I guess I could go back and watch and listen for how many times he disagreed with a call against KState. I really don't think it happened.
When I turned on the game on the main ESPN I thought ok, good we'll get the A team, maybe Bilas, or others. Instead even on the main channel we still get him.
In my recap I should have mentioned Grady's defense. He was amazing with 2 blocks and 4 steals. Several steals negated because of phantom foul calls.
Someone is making mid season enemies again at the bucket.
I've always been kind of like everyone just needs to calm down about Fran. I'm fully on board. He was unbearable tonight. Low key making sure he didn't favor KState too much, but arguing refs calls all night while just turning a blind eye to the various strange calls against us.
Wow Jaylen Wilson. In a game he has to carry the load in the later stages, he does. Too bad Bill called the TO. Not sure why he did with 4 seconds left on the shot clock, but ouch, that was a brutal time to call it.
Speaking of fouls and Fran, Grady and KJ both committed some dumb fouls to go along with the dumb calls against them. Actually, I'm not sure Grady committed more than 1 foul in that game, but when you reach and you've got two or three you're playing with fire. Ultimately it cost us as attrition made it a two man team.
This team is one key injury away from going from elite to average. Of course there's a lot of teams that can ill afford a key injury, but I don't see anyone coming in as a starter off the bench and contributing replacement level stats. When DeJuan went down, the rest of the state of Kansas outside of Manhattan became very very nervous.
DeJuan was masterful as a point guard again. Offensively it wasn't a rembrandt or even a Warhol. (a lesser painter in my view). But we don't necessarily need him scoring.
The stupid FT shooting early in the half sealed our fate. When you miss 5 in a row it just makes the rest of the game harder. KJ, who's been improving was the biggest miscreant but McCullar missed his only two and we kind of expect him to convert those as an experienced transfer.
Fran is still blathering on about fouls. He also was heard saying Dicky at one point. Understandable mistake.
It was fun to see a good competitive KState team. I think it's good for us to be challenged like that. Last year was an anomaly as they shot lights out and the kid who did so in the first half, Pack?, was so excited about playing for the wildkitties he transferred. There's no shame in losing this game. Tough place to play. We battled back after a really tough start. We got victimized some by referees. But we didn't play a whole 45 minutes and it ultimately led to a 2nd loss on the season.
Oh well, got to go :( so if you see me around don't tell me about the stirring comeback. I'm watching when I get home.
@kuballin10 Yeah but you're sounding like the guy bragging "I told you so" about this happening. You're also taking on old board stalwarts Nuleaf and Jethro who have been tried and true Jayhawk board rats for a quarter of my life. They're good guys so why take them on?
@kuballin10 You're sounding happy that this is happening!
@kuballin10 Comments like that aren't needed.
This is all Frans fault
@DanR Me neither. I don't get worried til the last minute.
Gonna have to make another stirring comeback. What else is new.
@jayballer67 Why would the refs want them to have good games?
For the first time in recorded history most board rats agree with me
Wilson got fouled on the drive
Ha Fran thinks the SEC is good.
Pick/roll 2 points
Happy for the Manhattanites. They haven't been this excited in what, a decade?
This is pretty hilarious. Illinois guy got called for a charge.

I'm a KState type fan but in baseball. Us Sox fans can relate to KState fans. We play 2nd fiddle to the Cubs. It causes Sox fans to act stupid at times. But we have to endure taunts from the other side of town, 'gonna get shot going to Sox games', 'did you enjoy the game with the other dozen fans there?' 'sox leaving town', etc. etc. KU fans, some, maybe some here have an arrogance about them that is evident at times. I'm glad Tang is classy and to suggest he'll leave because of KState fans is kind of ridiculous. I hope he builds them into a powerhouse so we have a built in rival.
@cragarhawk I agree, the officiating has been like that a lot this year. First half just a few fouls and then the 2nd they go whistle happy and it's double bonus for the last 10-12 minutes of the game.
Time to develop a chip on the shoulder. For the so called world wide leader to have a Mid Season review and barely mention KU is egregious, slanderous, outrageous, preposterous, ridiculous, and....just plain stupidous. Ignore KU at your own peril. (2 writers mention KU as a FF pick, most pick Jalen as an AA, but that's really it in the mentions, even in the section on the Big 12)
Why in the Sam Hills Grandpa is that game between two top 15 teams being shown on espnplus? Because at the same time that network is showing bama-lsu a game that most residents of those states won’t give two rips about.
@drgnslayr @nuleafjhawk sorry Nuleaf I agree with drgn. We need a good competitive rival. It’s why I hated to see misery leave. I want to see two games on the calendar every year that I set my life around. I want them to beat us every once in a while so we have reason to make it a fierce and bitter rival. But if you want to donate a million dollars to bring Bruce back more power to ya. He’s a studio guy on the big ten network and I can’t stand hearing that voice!
LOL Kentucky. Kick em out of the Blue Bloods club.
If you dig back into the archives theres a lot of great interviews with all of our favorite Jayhawks. I'm doing some travelling this weekend, I'll have to look that one up.
I met Porter Moser a couple of years ago, told him I had some eligibility left. Told me he'd send the paperwork.
Just finished watching, wow, what a slugfest. Nice to see the team win when the O isn't clicking on all cylinders. Read a few comments above, missed quite a few at the rim.
I think I'd read OU guards the line well and so it was gratifying to see Bill Self prevent them from chucking up 3 after 3. As it was we had pretty good looks and took them when they were afforded us.
OU missed a ton of shots late obviously. We needed that. This sure was looking like a loss.
@RockkChalkk It is too bad for TCU I agree, but when a depleted injured KU takes TCU to the last minute of a game before losing I'm really not thinking TCU is CFP tournament quality. I'm really not sure how Michigan took TCU to the last minute and beat OSU who nearly/should have beat Georgia who then destroyed TCU.
@drgnslayr While I care way more about NCAA basketball, I think the addition of more teams to the playoff will allow recruits to consider more schools to attend. If you're Joe 5 star RB and you want to play in the playoff there's a bout 5-7 schools you'd probably consider going to. An expanded playoff gives probably the entire top 20's worth of teams for a recruit to say, yes, I'd much rather stay home and suit up for KU, or Pitt, or any other program outside the few that have reasonable chances of playing in the playoff.
The only reason I watched last night was I was in a restaurant and it was on in the background. When half time started and it was 38-7 there was no reason to even think about turning the game on when I got home.
@BeddieKU23 Didn't we pass Kentucky during the tournament last year and we're this far ahead of them already?
Ya'll hold it down for me. Got to run.
Refs must be afraid of that dude with the musket
I think that's the first time they've showed Bill Self all game. Huggy must be more photogenic.
Must've been some bad moonshine back in that locker room
I'm going to go see Dai Dai Adames (or something like that) play in a few minutes. He's a KState recruit. Jacob Pullen's brother will be playing in a separate game that I'll see as well.
I don't get scared until the last minute of the game as my normal policy.
