Svi got some PT tonight and took advantage scoring 10. But his team got destroyed by the Cavs who scored 83 in the 2nd and 3rd quarters alone. Another amazing stat was Cleveland taking 52 3 pointers, making 22. Goodness how this game has changed. Garrett got one point for the Heat. Covid is giving our guys some PT. Joel Punished the Wiz with 36 and 13. DG had a nice game but lost with 15 points and 8 gifts. Cheick almost had a double double with 9 and 9, but JJ didn't appear in the box score, I guess he's in the protocols. SA blew (out) a Piston. DD can't find PT in Chicago even with guys out. Marcus Morris is coming back after sitting out for Covid. I've got 3 more days and I'll be able to begin to play again.

I was at TGF's game when he mysteriously didn't return. I've checked frequently on DePaul's site to see if there's info on him.

Jossell's step grandma teaches in a classroom next to mine. When I noticed the same last name, and that he played 1 year of HS ball near where I work I asked her. She's actually divorced from the grandpa, didn't sound like she had much of a relationship with him.

@Marco I did a home test, so I have no clue if its the variant. Tried to get the test at a testing site. But symptoms including taste bud loss made it seem obvious I have it. I'm on my 3rd day of it.

@approxinfinity Hah, good catch, Michael, Lagerald, covid must have my brain a little foggy.

Jayhawks in the pros • Dec 25, 2021 02:54 AM

@Crimsonorblue22 thanks you’re always good for the inside scoop on the Jayhawks.! I knew there was some tough stuff. Michael Vick and he got in trouble together didn’t they? Wow Michael Vick what a wasted talent. I remember after one NCAA game my bro in law asked me “who is that guy?” It was one of his high flying alley oop games. Was so disappointed he let himself down and us too.

Jayhawks in the pros • Dec 25, 2021 02:48 AM

@mayjay Don’t know if you remember but I was in Baton Rouge the Ben Simmons season. All year I kept thinking I hadn’t seen anyone like that since Danny Manning. I don’t blame him for the LSU experience so much because he clearly didn’t want to play in college. But his lack of competitive drive in the heat of the moment was startling. I was fortunate to be in a rare sold old PMAC for a game against OU and senior yrmear Buddy Held. Buddy led a big comeback and in the last 5 minutes Ben didn’t take a shot. Fans were pretty pissed. Ben had an interesting teammate Keith Hornsby who was the son of rockstar Bruce Hornsby who would come to quite a few of the games. He was a decent player. The last interesting tidbit was a guy hollered at me because I was wearing my KU stuff. We started talking and he was the KU grad who made the rules of basketball documentary for ESPN’s series 30 for 30. He was making a documentary about Simmons that aired on showtime. I filled his ear about my opinion about Simmons.

@Marco Did you lose your sense of taste? That's the worst as this house is full of once a year kind of stuff I can't hardly taste at all!

Jayhawks in the pros • Dec 24, 2021 04:02 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 My memories of JJ were some minor legal problems, weed maybe? Forgive me if I'm wrong, but character issues may be what's weighing him down which is really sad. I've always guessed that was his issue.

Colorado game Canceled game thread • Dec 24, 2021 03:22 PM

@approxinfinity Thanks, I'll be alright! I should have tried to avoid missing out the deliciousness of Christmas a little better though. I can't really taste much. Most of the year that's ok, but not now!

Jayhawks in the pros • Dec 24, 2021 03:20 PM

@AsadZ I guess definition of success is a little vague!! Starter since day 1, 19.5 PPG career average, 4 boards, 3 assists, 42% 3 point shooter this season at least. And starting alongside Stephen Curry on one of the best teams in the league.

I do understand where he's probably not heading for the HOF or even all star teams that he may be considered a bit of a disappointment, but of all our great players he's one of relatively rare ones during the last 30 years that has been a steady presence in the league.

Welcome Sydney Curry! • Dec 24, 2021 05:38 AM

@Kcmatt7 LOL reading some opinions just above about Ochai that I probably would have agreed with at the time they were written!

@mayjay I wish I'd gone to Hawaii right now and then got covid. I'd isolate on a beach somewhere with my wife 6 feet away and take a long time to recover!

Non-KU Games • Dec 24, 2021 05:34 AM

@Crimsonorblue22 So far some loss of taste and a bit achy and fatigued. If COVID wasn't a thing I'd just think I had a minor bug or something.

Jayhawks in the pros • Dec 24, 2021 05:33 AM

Nice night for Kelly Oubre with 23, back from a starting role to a sub, but got 32 minutes in the victory. He's indispensable to that team. Joel Embiid played well but the Sixers lost and are a disappointing .500. The prima donna Ben Simmons can be blamed as his petulent ways have cost the Sixers a chance at being a powerhouse. We want to see Joel win a ring and I thought they had a decent chance with that duo.

Jayhawks in the pros • Dec 24, 2021 05:24 AM

Cheick played 3 minutes and scored 2 which is half as much as Josh Jackson scored in 21 minutes. JJ's time must be running out soon. Detroit is 5-24 and he's hardly played at all since tonight. To me Josh was a kid who didn't belong in college. He seemed indifferent, had some decent moments I guess, but the rules should have let him go pro. Not sure his problem this year, but again, hardly any PT, goes falling from covid right and left and he still has trouble getting minutes.

Ironically with all of this talk on this day, when I was going to get boosted instead I got Covid. Not too worried, the worst effect will be spending Christmas in this small room up in the isolated part of MY HOUSE! I should tell everyone else if you don't want to get COVID you go up to this room in MY HOUSE. But since I want to have a good marriage for the rest of my life, I'm confined, like the Apostle Paul to one room in MY HOUSE.

Non-KU Games • Dec 23, 2021 03:02 PM

@approxinfinity Ironically I checked back in the latter parts of the 2nd half and the first thing I heard was "Oh he got fouled and nothing was called". #coachkwhistle

Colorado Game recap • Dec 23, 2021 02:39 PM

I don't know what the H E double hockeysticks you were watching Beddie, but that's not what I saw at all. Down to 5 healthy bodies, Coach Self warned the starting 5 not to ask for a sub. He reportedly told them not to worry about fouling out because none of you is capable of getting near anyone on defense anyways. Well what I saw then was Mark Teahan, I mean Conner Teahan, oops, I always get them mixed up, Chris Teahan go Steff Curry on the Buffs who were at full strength. He made 5 3's in both halves. One, the guy on the radio said was shot from the Flatirons. The other 4 played magnificently. Coach Self told reporters he was thankful Dave tested positive so he didn't have to read comments about why does Bill keep playing him. Zach Clemence went all Kevin Durant on the buffalos shooting lovely jump shot after lovely jump shot. Bobby P said "I've been waiting for my chance" and did one of those fake negative test results guaranteed things. His 15 assists are a KU freshmen record. The lack of defense was an issue for sure as Tad's Buffs matched us bucket for bucket. Mitch had the time of his life swatting shots, taking charges, missing bunnies, even made a bad pass right to Coach Self who said "It's OK, I actually thought Mitch is so old probably his eyesight is going or his mental capacities." Jalen Wilson also played and set a record for someone playing 40 minutes of a game and having no stats. Coach told him just stand over along the sidelines by me and everything will work out well.

It was an exciting 139-137 victory. I can't believe you didn't see what I saw.

@Texas-Hawk-10 I'm definitely on the bandwagon right now, but instead of watching the game the other night I went to a movie, so it really doesn't matter that much to me. There will be spaces for her to play for sure. Lots of seniors leaving the team.

Duke losing to Virginia Tech in the early parts of the 2nd half. Only losing by 4 so the coach k retirement tour whistle will kick in i'm sure.

@rockchalkjayhawk Yeah I heard about that. Lots of Badger fans right now excited about their womens volleyball team and some of them had to miss the National Championship last night because of it.

Latrell's Revenge Game Thread • Dec 19, 2021 05:31 AM

Will miss all of these stupid ESPN+ games. Why can't they just let ESPN subscribers stream the games and make anyone else pay if they don't get ESPN? So I went to the movies, West Side Story was very good. I noticed Dave 10 minutes and Mitch 26 minutes. Did Dave get hurt or did he just hurt the team?

Didn't look like we must have played all that well against a decent mid major team. Is that true?

Non-KU Games • Dec 19, 2021 12:08 AM

Just to see the court, check out LSU against LATech. See Kenneth Lofton Jr, a wide body among wide bodies playing for tech. He's on some preseason lists. It's on CBS sports network

Graham firing up multiple 3's tonight, 8-12, ending with 26 points. Wiggins played greatly with 27 with 5 3's.

@mayjay Nowhere! We came back to Chicago where we grew up to finish our careers. I'm loving it back here. Going to HS hoops games all over is awesome. Seeing lifelong friends is awesome. Watching Sox games and going to them is awesome! Being near kids is awesome. My parents are a 6 hour drive now instead of a 2 day drive so that's great to. Not many days left with them, so seeing them more often is special.

It was so windy here on the south side someone tried to shoot someone into the wind and the intended target caught it and threw it back at the shooter so fast it injured him.

It was so windy here in Chicago that it rapidly cooled the temperatures as all the hot air of the democratic machine blew out away to Michigan where they enjoyed a warm beach day.

The power of celebrity, no matter how minor their celebrity status is. Chris Vogt, whom I mentioned above is a UW super senior who is from Mayfield, Kentucky. He started a gofundme that has already raised 60,000$. Keep in mind, the storm happened 5 days ago. Chris Vogt spent the first month of the season accumulating more fouls than points. He's a fouling big machine. But that sure the heck doesn't matter now when you look at how his heart matches his height.

Forever grateful Bill Self knew not to let him touch the ball on the final play in 2008.

Whoa Quentin Grimes gets a start tonight, the Knicks get destroyed (covid?) but did he ever produce! 7 3 pointers, 27 points total.

Agbaji and Braun • Dec 13, 2021 01:13 AM

IDK, I've seen too many KU greats flame out in the NBA that I'm decidedly not hopeful for either. I hope I'm wrong of course, but our guys, just don't seem to be too successful.

As far as this season goes, it's been awesome to watch.

Beating Missouri • Dec 12, 2021 07:14 PM

The foundation was laid more than a sesquicentennial ago. Hatred formed out of a horrible violent act. Good vs. Evil. North vs. South, Slave vs. Free, however you want to call it, the foundation for a less serious type of hate was laid.

There's a lot of sports teams that have hated rivals. We all know about the Yanks and Sawx, Giants and Dodgers, Packers and Bears, latest beatdown coming tonight. But they're all different rivals. These are rivals of hatred, just rivals of geographically proximate teams.

Sox-Cubs is one I'm most familiar with. It's a your team sucks, no your team sucks even worse lets all go out and get a beer after the game rivalry. They'll make cute 'House divided shirts and license plate holders showing their rivalry can be put aside for more important things like relationships and just plain being human in a society that is striving more and more to be just and fair.

But this rivalry, well it's just extra as they like to say today. It seems as if, and I'm greatly generalizing here, so forgive me, that the opposing sides are representative of the sides that have greatly divided our country in the last half decade. And when I think of Missouri I just think of a state that hasn't progressed too much in the areas of justice.

Are there good people over there? Yes indeed. In fact there are people there, just like the rest of this country working for change in the areas that interest me and many others. I know some of you live in Missouri and love your state.

But there's just this added dimension to the rivalry that isn't present in any other (to my knowledge) rivalry in this country. And so we play ball. Much anticipated, unappreciated by some, disliked by others. I get all of those perspectives. But the AD's of said institutions thought it best to start it back up.

I'm not sure it will have the same teeth it had before because Missouri University forgot how to play basketball when they moved to the $EC. That was a KU vs. SE Missouri type beatdown or Kangaroos St. of UMKC type of beatdown. The TV announcers noticed it. They might be the worst major team in the country. They're the type of team that when those same Kangaroos beat MU they put an asterisk next to it. Because schools like UMKC like to brag in their promotional lit about beating major conference teams, so they tell potential season ticket holders "we beat an SEC team" then read below Missouri really sucks bad at basketball so don't think we're going to beat other power 5 schools.

Another way to put it. Missouri in B12 = Illinois or Arkansas or OK State in basketball. Gonna give you a tough one. Missouri in SEC = SWAC team.

So it was an enjoyable day. Nice to break 100 against them. Nice to see everyone scoring and defense not being compromised along the way like it was when we runned and gunned against St. Johns while giving up a bunch as well. No this was score at ease and still play KU defense.

While part of me hopes Missouri improves so these games are competitive, thus strengthening our team, part of me thinks well that's what the most central of all states gets for leaving the league they belong in. That's what they deserve for going to those states you're more in kindred spirit with.

Forgive me if I'm wrong or stepped on toes, just trying to figure out this uniquest of rivals.
