BIG, ACC, PAC12 Alliance • Aug 28, 2021 09:09 PM

@drgnslayr Just think of how many conference championships we'll win in a row if we get to pick the new teams in our conference!

BIG, ACC, PAC12 Alliance • Aug 28, 2021 12:52 PM

@mayjay Thanks, one name I hadn't thought of.

Struggling today. • Aug 28, 2021 04:03 AM

I just noticed this thread of comments. Sports takes a back seat to life and this shows it. Sorry for the tough times. I've been adjusting to going back to work, in person, full classrooms full of 6th graders who are none too interested in covering those cute little faces. A sinking suspicion as some have mentioned we'll end up back teaching from home. I've really got it pretty easy to be honest. Short workday, some work at home to do of course, but really pretty chill about it. As always the new kids come in and grab your heart for a variety of reasons, while some of course get your goat instead!

BIG, ACC, PAC12 Alliance • Aug 28, 2021 03:40 AM

Saw something today that the Big12 should be aggressive in looking to add members at this point. But who? Who offers quality competition in both football and basketball? Houston is one I think of. There just aren't that many that are not in one of the power 5.

BIG, ACC, PAC12 Alliance • Aug 25, 2021 03:00 PM

@drgnslayr True. Since hoops is our focus, there are some major players in college hoops that are just as dismayed as we are about the future. Both of the participants in last years title game have major reasons to remain competitive. Two time champ Villanova figures to lose out in some way too.

BIG, ACC, PAC12 Alliance • Aug 25, 2021 01:17 PM

Well it happened yesterday. It appears to be rather vague in what the alliance is and shockingly it appears there's no contract. This article is from a page I frequent. https://www.buckys5thquarter.com/2021/8/24/22639882/big-ten-acc-pac-12-formally-enter-an-alliance-scheduling-college-football-playoff-kevin-warren ↗

BIG, ACC, PAC12 Alliance • Aug 23, 2021 01:20 AM

@Kcmatt7 I’m a little selfish but seeing KU in the 10 would increase my odds a lot of seeing the Jayhawks in action in a lot of sports. But most of all I am hoping we don’t get left out with a bunch of other schools scratching our heads about what to do next.

Lets see, KC kid, friends committed to KU, senior year in Wichita, sounds like a Duke lock to me.

BIG, ACC, PAC12 Alliance • Aug 21, 2021 10:29 PM

At least we've got a brand name in basketball which might make things work out for us, but the Loyola's and Butlers and Gonzaga's of the world are terrified right now. You're right @drgnslayr it's hard to see how this turns out. I'm a little surprised it's not being discussed non-stop here because it really is concerning to me.

The NIL is a concern of mine. Not sure how its related, but I'm just imagining BMOC football player making some nice coin while in college suddenly becoming a booster to influence kids to come to their school and be their point guard or center, or wide receiver or whatever. NIL isn't going to change corruption in recruiting I don't think. This is a hot mess.

BIG, ACC, PAC12 Alliance • Aug 21, 2021 06:25 PM

I don't follow all of the shakeups impending in NCAA but the new SEC with this alliance between the other 3 named conferences is worrying me to no end that somehow the Big 12 is getting left out.

I'm super pissed at Texas and Oklahoma who are causing all of this. I don't want some alliance. It's really concerning for the schools like ours who don't offer much in football. This is just a nightmare in the making for KU, and while I don't hold much regard for other BIG12 schools, seeing a school like OKState or Tech or Kstate squirming because they're even less attractive makes me a bit sad too. There's strength in numbers. We have a great conference basketball wise, a not as great fut ootball conference.

But the greedy professional league also called the SEC will be blamed for the downfall of NCAA sports as we've known and loved for our whole lives. I really can't see how any of this ends up satisfactorily.

Brady Morningstar • Aug 19, 2021 03:22 AM

@mayjay Sometimes the attitude is if you don't know what anyone is talking about and ask, you get branded as being out of touch and no one tells you. I have no clue either. Generally I wait for the season to start and see who is out there and start cheering them on. I can't keep up.

Field of Dreams Game • Aug 14, 2021 04:24 AM

Most watched MLB regular season game since 2005 they're telling me. The fact it was the Sox was personally very gratifying, and beating the hated Yankees made it all the better.

Field of Dreams Game • Aug 13, 2021 04:12 AM

Anyone watch? One of the most stirring swing of emotions in a game I've experienced.

Bizarre (and obscure) record • Aug 12, 2021 01:18 PM

Sounds like a crazy game. Royals have been a pain for the Sox in recent weeks winning 5 of 7 against us.

Big series starts tonight • Jul 30, 2021 09:45 PM

@AsadZ Even though my team has benefited I kind of hate seeing all of these decent or very good players going to contenders.

Big series starts tonight • Jul 30, 2021 02:37 PM

@mayjay Game 6 against the Sox that is!

Big series starts tonight • Jul 30, 2021 02:44 AM

Congrats Royals, you took it to us, nearly swept us. Ouch!

Self Has Covid • Jul 30, 2021 01:50 AM

The problem with these arguments is when it's basketball season I have to try to forget whom I vehemently disagree with so we can discuss our favorite team.

Self Has Covid • Jul 29, 2021 01:30 PM

@Oldmanhawk Sorry for your losses. What I think I'm trying to say is I don't see how one can have a varying opinion about a very contagious virus. It makes zero sense to me. Seriously. That's what I'm trying to say. While there's not clear evidence of this I have zero doubts its true. Americans have died because someone asserted their 'right' not to wear a mask. When opinions lead to deaths or debilitating illnesses then I question that this is a matter of opinion.

Self Has Covid • Jul 29, 2021 08:58 AM

@Oldmanhawk Opinions are important to have. It makes very little sense to me say the managing of a virus is dependent on peoples opinion. People crack me up when they say ‘see Covid wasn’t that bad, only 600000 people died. You and everyone else reading here would have lost many friends and relatives if we hadn’t taken drastic measures to slow the spread.

Big series starts tonight • Jul 29, 2021 12:02 AM

Wow, 97 degree game time temp!

Big series starts tonight • Jul 28, 2021 11:46 PM

@mayjay Yeah that's a strange one too.

Big series starts tonight • Jul 28, 2021 02:16 AM

Wondering what you all think of Mike Matheny. I mean everyone makes mistakes, but he just walked Jose Abreu to pitch to Eloy Jimenez, playing his 2nd game of the season. Eloy made him pay, I think the ball is still in flight. Abreu been slumping badly, I would've pitched to him!

More on NIL • Jul 21, 2021 02:10 AM

I don't know where to put this but this is classic. I was refreshing myself on the Deandre Ayton crapshow of a recruitment here and then away from here and this quote: “To be honest, I have no comment on that,” Ayton said. That's right up there with Charles Barkley claiming he was misquoted in his autobiography.

Big series starts tonight • Jul 21, 2021 02:08 AM

@approxinfinity Yeah, I don't really remember him but I do have fresh memories from Gavins big homer last night because I was there!

2021 Transfer Talk/List • Jul 16, 2021 06:57 PM

@Marco Illinois needs to bring back Chief Illiniwek who put a curse on the program when he was banned from doing his traditional dance. The two sports most anyone pays attention to in college have been largely inept since the curse was placed.

HR derby • Jul 16, 2021 05:44 AM

@Crimsonorblue22 Royals drafted the nephew of our Louisiana dentist and a grad of our kids hs. His name is River Town which will be an all time great mlb name should he make it.

I don’t remember the specifics but Otis Livingston committed an all time blunder when he got kicked off the 1988 KU team during the conference tournament. He and Brown argued about something.

He has been very successful as a sports reporter in NYC winning multiple Emmies! Good for him.

I hope the same thing happens this year.

DeGrom and Ohtani • Jul 08, 2021 01:59 PM

Sorry I missed this. I generally take issue with pitchers winning MVPs. Of course Ohtani is an exception because he's way more than a pitcher. DeGrom, give him another Cy Young as he clearly deserves it. But don't give him an MVP too. He impacts 30 games or so. Let someone who is on a team that will clearly play in the postseason a chance at some hardware. While the Mets are in the drivers seat in their division they have no guarantees.

I looked up Remy Martin. Drinks for everyone, but at 50 bucks a bottle, very small drinks for everyone.

I admire Ochai as a college basketball player. I doubt I'll ever admire him as a professional in the NBA. I hope he takes the Frank the Tank Kaminsky approach and realizes another year on a great college campus is way way better than a year on the bench in the NBA. I sincerely hope he's great in the NBA, or at least has a long career. But I really don't care that much how well our guys do in the pros. I want wins in Lawrence, not former Jayhawk stats in the league. May be a bit selfish of me, but, well it's just sports, it's what I want. I want 40 of them next season, no more, no less.

Around the Big 12 • Jun 25, 2021 11:39 PM

I didn’t read the ESPN article but when people act like Baylor has passed up KU they conveniently forget that we were the hands down favorite in 2020 only to have life steal the chance for us to win it. No guarantees of course but I sure liked our chances and I hate when people here criticized Self like he’s lost it or something.

Greg Gard secretly recorded • Jun 25, 2021 07:41 PM

Ben Brust called them the softest group of Badger players he's ever seen.

And I truly am rooting for all of those guys for their futures. But this getting out affects all of them. I hope they know that. Future employers/coaches aren’t going to want a guy that is recorded saying “we will never talk to you again or win for you”.

Greg Gard secretly recorded • Jun 25, 2021 07:31 PM

@BeddieKU23 I was pretty critical of him for leaving in the middle of the season and the turnaround with the team seemed to coincide with him leaving. Those things are always hard to determine if he was a distraction to the team, or if he and Gard disagreed on things to the point it caused him to quit. This situation now certainly sheds light on it and it may even indicate his valid reason for leaving.

NCAA loses more power... again... • Jun 25, 2021 02:26 PM

The mystery of a deleted post!

Around the Big 12 • Jun 25, 2021 04:16 AM

I met Porter Moser a couple years back and told him I still had some college eligibility left. He told me he'd let me know. Still waiting, but if he calls now I'll just say I couldn't bear the thought of playing against my alma mater so I'd politely decline.

It'd be really great to see Leipold work out. Heck even if he got the team to playing .500 ball in a couple of years it'd be a major accomplishment I think. He seems like a nice hire, he is from Wisconsin after all! I never really trusted the Les Miles hire to work out. It just seemed strange to me.

Big series starts tonight • Jun 25, 2021 04:03 AM

@approxinfinity Thanks! You jinxed us! Lost 5 in a row. Including a game in Pittsburgh that I attended! It was my first visit to PNC. We also were in your state, near Berkely Springs with my elderly parents. Had a beautiful mountaintop Airbnb.

2021-2022 Kansas Basketball Schedule • Jun 25, 2021 04:00 AM

I'm glad we're playing Kentucky, it's the other SEC teams that have embarrassed us lately!

NCAA loses more power... again... • Jun 25, 2021 03:53 AM

Does the rower, or mid major DI soccer player, or the UMKC volleyball player get paid too? Shouldn't they demand it too? After they, while generally not being as talented as their high level counterparts, are often competing on the same fields and in the same venues.

Just because athletes are going to be paid doesn't end the corruption because programs will exceed allowable stipends in order to entice recruits.

Greg Gard secretly recorded • Jun 25, 2021 03:43 AM

@focojayhawk Wow, you sound like the guys at bucky's5thquarter! Good summary. I've been away a few days with my elderly parents so I haven't paid attention to this story.

@approxinfinity I've always appreciated Gard, although he reminds me of Bo in some ways. The team just seems offensively challenged at times. He doesn't value possessions like Bo nor does (many more turnovers) Bo was very intimidating and he surely influenced officials for the Badgers. Gard is just a nice guy. It's his MO. They have a pretty strong recruiting class coming in, but overall the team will be very young so next year if all stays the same will be pretty trying.

@mayjay Someone within the program says meetings like this are common in but kept behind closed doors so we don't notice them.

An important aspect to the story is the tragedy of Howard Moore, the assistant coach who lost a wife, a child, suffered a serious injury himself in an auto accident. Moore hasn't returned to the program, I'm not sure if he's disabled. He also had a heart attack shortly after the accident. That's when Tucker came in and at least for a little while seemed like an heir apparent. He's one of my favorite Badger players. Kind of a Keith Langford type. I'll be disappointed that it's him that did this if that info comes out. The recorded was edited too to make Greg look worse.

I know there's some here who just would wish Self would move on. While I'm definitely not one of them, if he does, I'd love to see him in Madison!

Sam Dekker, a Badger legend was incredulous about the players doing this. He used some pretty strong language. Ben Brust, the Badgers version of Jeff Boschee also spoke strongly. These aren't old 'get off my lawn types', they're still in their 20's but seem really strong in their opinion that these were malcontents that let down this team and their fans a lot this season.

History of Kansas vs. Duke • Jun 03, 2021 04:21 AM

1986 final four deserves an asterisk *first appearance of the Duke whistle

Maybe KU-Wisconsin play in 2022 • May 29, 2021 08:03 PM

Both schools now included in the Battle for Atlantis. In the modern realm of college hoops no clue what both teams will look like. I'm guessing the Badgers will struggle this year with some new guys but who also are supposed to be pretty good and will be fairly competitive that season. I honestly have no clue who is going to be playing for KU in 2022.

It'd be a fun early season matchup if it happens, apparently we beat us in 1969 that is KU beat the Badgers that year, so really old badger fans will be looking for vengeance. I'd have little conflict in my mind. A loss would not be damaging to either team, while the other team would get a nice SOS boost by winning.

What other matchups would you like to see? I think a home and home with hated Duke and less hated UNC would be fun. I would enjoy seeing KU go into Mackey or the Assembly Hall at Indiana and play them with the return visit to AFH.

Whom do we have games scheduled with in the next few years? What mid majors should we be playing? Should we schedule more true road games early in the season? (I think so)

Questions, I have questions.
