Anyone remember when Joaquin Andujar totally melted down in game 7 of the 85 series for the Cardinals over Ball--Strike calls? Sox teetering towards that.
@wissox It worked! Home run!!
@mayjay Well the strike zone is supposed to vary by height of the batter. Remember Pete Rose's crouch? No one would do that these days because you can't generate much power. Sox announcer just mentioned that on a 3-0 count the ump actually widens the strike zone.
Trying to jinx royals pitcher who has a no hitter going
Nice play at the hot corner by the royal guy
Good memories of going to Royals stadium to see Bo get his first hit off Steve Carlton and the Sox. He camethisclose to hitting into a triple play later in the game.
Looks like everyone else is a little late including the offenses.
I'll be a little late.
Lots of games coming up between my team and yours. Will chat during the games (I'll try to be nice) if you'd like.
@Kcmatt7 This isn't quite related to that play, but I think baseball was a little more relaxing to watch when we didn't have the strike zone superimposed on the screen. Sure we'd complain about some B/S calls still, but now every pitch we're subjected to a picture of the ball touching the outer millimeter of the box or missing it by that much and we get frustrated. The ones that obviously miss the zone and are called strikes, well we didn't need the box to see that. Instead we asked for consistency, a call it both ways attitude, if they get a wide strike zone we would like one too sort of thing.
@Kcmatt7 It's amazing how long Angel has been ticking off fans. I mean pretty sure I remember this guy in the 90's messing up. I never saw video of the incident from the other night of the balk call, but obviously the Royals thought it was wrong. Brutal stuff.
I heard the Royals had a visit from a fallen Angel last night.
We just lost our gold glove center fielder Luis Robert maybe for the season, 12-18 weeks. Adam Engel, a gold glove caliber player is a month away at least, although his bat isn't that great. The starting pitching has been fantastic however and tonight Dylan Cease threw 6 shutout innings with 11 K's , 1 hit allowed and in his first MLB game batting went 3-3! Lots of games between Sox and Royals coming up.
From Tom Oates a well respected writer in Madison. Buffalo football coach Lance Leipold just told me he will be named coach at Kansas. “Great hire by KU. @CoachLeipold is a rock-solid program builder in the Barry Alvarez tradition. He will need time, though. A coach doesn’t develop players overnight.”
@Kcmatt7 NO! My days of wallowing as a Sox fan are over!
@Crimsonorblue22 Haven't the Royals gone through a period of wallowing the last 3-4 years? Is that not the right word? What word should I have used?
The Royals can still wallow in the afterglow of their world series for a few years! Sox need to get another one and are going to be in the mix. Royals do look better early on this year for sure.
@rockchalkwyo I didnt feel bad until 24 hours later.
@Crimsonorblue22 Its unbelievable. When I think about this it reminds me of the people who planned a Hurricane Camille party in a seaside house and got swept away.
My last years in LSU country I watched a lot of LSU baseball and her son Kramer was an entertaining player. He’s in the cards system. Not sure if he’ll make it to the majors.
@Marco I looked it up and Syracuse womens basketball has lost 12 players so Buddy and friends are still good.
I can remember bigs changing the game because of their defense, but Marcus is the only guard who changed games with defense that I can remember. (I know there have been others so don't get into what about....?)
@Kcmatt7 I probably overstated it, but this permitting of kids to just up and leave 4 months until next season starts to stir is disturbing. I don't know if this is permanent, or just caused by COVID-19 but if it is, recruiting becomes near impossible.
From Cal to KU to DePaul to Miami. Unbelievable. Really hard to fathom a kid can play at 4 different colleges.
NCAA basketball is being destroyed right before our eyes.
This is a shame. The easy transfer rules are wreaking havoc on college basketball. Coaches must be going mad having their careers depend on the whims of tik tok posting 19 year olds who suddenly think things will somehow become better in some other college town.
Bryce we hardly knew you, and while some here like to say once a Jayhawk always a Jayhawk, I tend to save that for those who gave us something to remember them by.
@Kcmatt7 I forgot about the trying part
I hope I'm the next Keith Langford
@Kcmatt7 It's fine. In fact if it helps bring back fans to the game maybe it'll be a good thing! As a kid I sat down for 2 hour games, not 3 1/2. Maybe I'd have found them boring too if it was like that. Instead I was raised watching someone like Bill Buckner who never struck out more than 40 times in a season over 22 ML seasons! Today guys literally strike out 40 times in a month sometimes.
@Crimsonorblue22 where’s the downvote button?
Bad! Today was really bad!
Replay is good, but it seems like it should go much quicker.
@approxinfinity I think Robot umps are coming but I know I'll say duh to myself, or maybe you will, but what's VR?
@Crimsonorblue22 Yes, and I still do. My line to Matt was shorten the games without shortening the games. In other words I still want 9 innings, just not 3 1/2 -4 hour games. Do you think MLB games should be 7 innings?
I'm a traditional baseball person and will feel cheated out of 2 innings each game. Maybe if it was a normal DH, but not one in which they kick every one out. Then they should play nine innings. @Kcmatt7 There's lots of ways to shorten the games without, you know, shortening the games :)
Sox/Royals rained out today. Will be made up as a 1PM and 7PM doubleheader of 2 7 inning games. I'm beyond pissed about this. It's such an affront to ticket paying fans who don't even get two shorter games for the price of 1. The fact it's my cheaper than dirt cheap favorite team doing it makes it even worse from my end. MLB is the worst league, plain and simple and this is more proof.
@KirkIsMyHinrich You mean if I declare for the draft they'll give me feedback on what I need to improve my game too?
@BigBad You can add feedback from fans on message boards. We all can tell Jalen what he needing to improve on. I'm trying to be funny but I'm not. We fans collectively can provide some insight on the skills and abilities of our favorite players.
@BShark No never saw nor heard of him until this month. So much talent around here. I've only lived here for 4 years, after being gone for 25 years so it's possible he was out of HS when we moved back.
I'm always amazed when I look at a roster of an opponent and see Chicago kids on it and have no clue who that person is.
@BShark "none of the other coaches like him". It's those kind of comments by people here that drove me away from this board for quite some time. That's a ridiculous thing to write, sorry bro, but you have no basis for writing that.
@mayjay I was at a church thing that night so i wasn't watching, (one of the benefits of being a man of faith if there is one!) but wasn't EJ also guilty of the 10 second call?
The floor for the '97 game I'm watching still has the Kansas map on the center logo and student seating like when I was a student, bleachers right behind the basket down to the floor. It's where I always sat when I was there.
I don't get it. Not an economic hardship case. Come back, be the BMOC with Dave, play with a chip on your shoulder after this years down year, groom the youngsters. He leaves now, I guarantee you a year from now I'll be googling his name wondering where he ended up.
@KirkIsMyHinrich I looked at their schedule. They were top 2 the first few weeks and then #1 the rest even after they stumbled in double OT at Misery. Still not sure how that team lost.
@KirkIsMyHinrich The FT's ugh. I really wish Drew Gooden had stuck around one more year. I think we're talking about KU being the last undefeated NC instead of Indiana had he stuck around.
Aaron Miles was a master distributor of the basketball.
Was looking at player stats and Lafrentz shot 17% from 3 in 1996-97. Hard to believe because he made a living in the league for quite some time as a threat from deep.
Boschee 3 like 5 seconds into the Texas game. That 2002 team was undefeated in the league. That team was full of iconic KU players. 7 deep, not to mention role players like Michael Lee, Bryant Nash. 7 top 100 guys on the roster.
Foul trouble graphic showed 3 KU players with 4 and none on UCLA.
We had someone named Kinsey in 2000?
Man, Kenny Gregory was a horrible FT shooter.
The shorts on these kids in 2000 look ridiculous!
KU-UCLA 2000, KU at Texas 2002, An OT game in which we scored 110 and gave up fewer. ISU@KU 1997, a chance to see the greatest KU team of my time.
The football/athletic training facility at Northwestern is a site to behold. It's right on Lake Michigan, simply spectacular. Goff's fundraising ability at NU was incredible. I'm hoping he has the same impact at KU.
