@HighEliteMajor I turned it off when we were down by 20. I'm on a spring break vacation with my son in the mountains of Montana. I figured no need to make myself miserable watching the rest of the game.
Thanks! Always been fun for us wannabe sportswriters to post our stuff.
I'm amazed you watched the game a second time! I, true confessions here, turned it off shortly after Doke blocked a shot and they scooped it up and made a 35 footer. My only quibble with your excellent post @HighEliteMajor is that Nova made way above their season average percentage wise in the first half when they built the huge lead.
And the list of fools grows. 30 or so NBA teams, 60 draft picks, nearly half are taken these days by foreigners it seems. Plus graduating seniors hope to get drafted. A bunch of 1 or 2 year 'educated' college dropouts with nothing to show for it.
@approxinfinity Bad jokes needed right now.
When crap happens like that you just know this game can't be won.
Oh, they just changed the TO stat.
Did we pick up a Time out? I thought we used two?
@Eric-san If I was Nova I'd have an inflated head right now too.
Good news, Sox just came back on Royals, oh, oops, sorry.
Billy Packer declared this game over yet?
@JayHawkFanToo Whadya talking about? We haven't missed from 3!
Now I know how UNC and Marquette felt in the semis against us.
Give credit to Nova, they're making some shots.
Free the 3!
I seem to recall a nice comeback in this building before.
A little life
I wish we'd have a power failure so we didn't have to watch this mess.
2 on Svi?
You giving up again BShark?
Dok has got fouled on both shots he's taken
All day long
Is this the official game chat?
My son thinks they should be playing the game while that video is playing on the floor.
I guess Misery fans might be there.
Is there anyone at the Royals game tonight?
So we get to avenge Villanova from 2016 and Michigan from 2013?
@Texas-Hawk-10 Say hi to Sister Jean
@Lulufulu Those are the only ones we could think of?
@joeloveshawks Thanks, now I'm even madder! But like you say, why should we care?
@BeddieKU23 Dakich picking Villanova makes me feel very good actually. To be honest, we've had kind of a tough year, obviously playing better recently, but other than the St. Johns loss, at home, Nova's been rolling, except, who are their best wins? Two wins over Xavier, big whoop, one over gonzo. That's it for regular season wins over ranked teams. Of course the tournament has given them wins over TTech and WVU. That's it. Crap, now I'm pissed. Nova's handled the schedule handed them, but it's not hugely impressive.
For us, 8-3 against ranked teams. Freaking ESPN prediction tracker has Nova at a 72% probability. Now I'm really irate, except our chip is growing. Don't fans remember that other than two years ago Nova flames out of the tournament early every year? Just last year these same kids lost to 8th seeded Wisconsin. From 2010 to 2015 they never made it out of the 2nd round losing to such dignitaries as George Mason, St. Mary's, NCState.
Screw these east coast biased doofuses! Jay Wright as someone pointed out is older than Bill Self. Bill Self has accomplished way more. But you just watch. Like 2003, one championship is going to forever etch a mediocre coach in lore as a great coach. Man I'm going to delete this whole thread as my BP is going up by the minute thinking about all this. I hope we put a 2003 type beatdown on Nova, just like they did on OU two years ago, just like we did against UNC in 08. Lets rock their chalk all day long!!!
I'll have to watch the games from Big Sky Montana as we go to visit our son, woe is me!
To the best of memory Bill is 1-3 against Jay Wright while at KU. I do believe Bill is the superior coach however and Jay's numerous March failures shouldn't be overlooked. But there's just the nagging fact that Bill has trouble beating him.
Jay owns a two game winning streak against Bill. I wouldn't call the Big East a mid major conference.
If I hadn't left Baton Rouge for Chicago I'd be there Monday night....
@kjayhawks I disagree vehemently, vociferously and adamently! I love baseball's 162 game schedule. It's a great rhythm, the mark of a new warmer season, a nearly daily sporting event that always brings hope for tomorrow!
@DanR Funny thing is the way the game started the Sox pitcher Shields had an ERA of infinity! 4 earned runs zero outs in the first inning. He settled down to earn the win that he probably didn't deserve.
@BShark Their slide down from a World Series winner has been breathtaking in how quickly it's happened. I thought that team was built to last a while.
Sox youth movement starting to pay dividends.
How's it going Buster? :).
Nice post Dragon! I'm slowly gaining more respect for Jay Wright, but I really hope I can go back to making fun of him for early tournament flameouts. He's had quite a few with very good teams. I do believe he outcoached Bill Self 2 years ago, but hoping Bill learned something from that matchup.
@Jayhawk-in-OKC I'm a mind reader, fluent by the way, and I know some were thinking it. I remember reading your mind impressed that you weren't giving up hope!
Not sure I want Larry Brown hanging around the team. Cool experience though.
I could make some money on this one. 1986 Jayhawks were robbed. 2015 Badgers were robbed. 2010 Butler was robbed. Jayhawks robbed in Maui. I'm sure UNC would have a few years to choose from, and so many others.
@Eric-san Archie diagjdowjdnciejdjpolos in Ukrainian is Svi Mkiaulakizkiamsanmapi
Nice thread. I'm not an X's and O's guy, (although I love hugs and kisses!) but I really hope that Bill doesn't get outcoached like he did two years ago. My memory was Jay threw a little soft press at us that just slowed us down and we never found a rhythm offensively. We might have a little more speed than two years ago as demonstrated by beating WVU three times this year and not having a ton of trouble with their press.
I do like the idea, but it's probably stupid to run two bigs out there because nova is small. I'm not sure how they're gonna stop Doke except try to get him fouled up.
@RockChalkinTexas I'm fascinated by the map. Louisiana has a strong catholic tradition and a school named Loyola, so that might explain them pulling for the Ramblers. WI, IA are because of proximity, although I thought maybe IA goes for KU. I can't explain Kentucky (neighbor of IL maybe?) Tennessee, VA, Vermont, NH however!
@RockChalkinTexas That's been one of the good parts of the FF in recent years.
Good news. Don't let it mess up your FF viewing!
One part of this season that has been fascinating to watch is this teams ability to win games where their recent history would indicate that maybe they'd fall flat. None of the games I'll mention were earth shattering upsets or history making games in our long ledger of basketball games. They were just games that in my view were significant.
We were all kind of in shock just before Christmas. A lot of us were thinking we just might enter conference play undefeated. After a month of patsies we were glad to see a team that at least would be competitive we thought. The Washington Huskies came into so called AFH East and extended the Pac12's win streak over us to at least two games. ASU, a team on a roll, and some here acknowledged they were a bit nervous about, comes in and embarrasses us at home.
Suddenly the fan base is edgy. Some are whispering 'could this be the year they don't win the league'? Some are even thinking worse, like maybe this team doesn't even make the dance.
To make matters worse, at least for our somewhat insecure fan base, there's not a game all week. And it's at Nebraska, a place we figured would be kind of tough to play. 3 game losing streaks don't happen too often around these places and we just might suffer one at Lincoln.
A nip and tuck game had Jayhawk fans really on edge. The game chats were a little tense. Nebraska tries to win it in the end, but we pull it out, barely, but someone, not remembering whom, said this felt like a big win. And it did. We'd gotten our season kind of back on track it felt like and we would win a few more before the first TT setback.
A 4-1 start in league play brings us to our next difference making game. We were going to be 4-2 after losing in Morgantown a lot of us said. With good reason. A 4 game losing streak there really gave us a sense of dread, and most of the games, (besides the WVU buzzer beater where the guy picked up his dribble at the 3 point line and shot a layup) were not very close. And then we fall behind. Graham makes the most significant shot of the season, a 3 at the buzzer for halftime that trims a 16 point deficit to 13 and some needed confidence. The 2nd epic comeback against Huggies Thuggies and suddenly we were saying this whole conference championship thing looks possible. A big monkey off our back and we were starting to think about the toughness of our team.
The 3rd game was Sundays historic game against Duke. If there's a time when we enter a game with a feeling of some dread and some inferiority it's when we play Duke. They receive the press clippings, the adoration of casual fans in many places, and just a notch higher in the national consciousness than we do.
Pause for a rant. Listened to CBS college basketball podcast today on the way home and Norlander and Parrish talked way more about Duke than any of the FF teams. grrrrr.....
KU came into the game with another burden to bear, the perceived failures of our team in Elite 8 games. This is despite the fact that this century we've won four of them and lost four of them, nothing to hang our head in shame about. But of course Bill Self has been the coach for 3 of those elite 8 losses, and he's got a few from other seasons with other schools. We all knew we could beat that team appropriately named the Devils. And we did. Kind of a huge weight lifting off of our collective backs. Bill Self's reaction said it all. Despite having won the NC, and played for another, He had earned a somewhat negative reputation nationally.
Sundays win may be a freeing type of game that allows this team to burst forth with a run the next few seasons of final fours and championships. Most championship teams overcome some sort of adversity. This one has. Way to go Jayhawks! Lets bring home championship #4!
