I hope Snacks didn't provide him with it.
I like the 36:30 moment on that video a lot better.
We got an out of bounds call that clearly went off Svi with 3 minutes left. Not sure if we scored then, but replay made it very clear. I really didn't have an issue with officiating. I do see what you mean about the dude banging into Landen however. Wow!
@jayballer54 He banged his knee last week. Missed a game or two, then played the spectacular 30 point outing, but now they held him out tonight and tomorrow night too I think I read. Obviously being cautious with him.

KU also set a record for turning the loudest arena into the quietest in 40 minutes.
PHOF!!!
@Crimsonorblue22 Thankfully I saved the game on the DVR and am rewatching it right now! So much fun...hearing Kentucky fans and Cal whine the entire 2nd half.
I saw it with my own eyes in 1988 when KSU and Mitch Richmond broke our 4 year home court winning streak. Fans, over on the parents side anyways left before it was over.
I think it was just as embarrassing for them to have the hokey introductions with that whoever that guy was. And then then to have the lets set the world record for crowd noise was pretty hokey as well.
I also think it was embarrassing for them to lose to a team with 6 legit D-1 players.
I also think it's embarrassing for them to have a coach who has had a scandal plagued career.
I also think it's embarrassing for UK to well, just be UK.
@BShark I hope you didn't watch UW-Rutgers yesterday. We (badgers) were losing 25-20 at the half, 8 minutes into the 2nd half Badgers were winning 27-25. Yep, Rutgers went 10 minutes without scoring a point! And UW was brick city, but had a stirring comeback from 9 down with 4 minutes to go to go to OT and wrapped it up in OT.
Ethan Happ scored 32 of the 50 some points the Badgers scored. He singlehandedly destroyed Rutgers. So it was not scintillating basketball at all.
@dylans Yeah, I'm a bit different. I'm very social in real life, and when I hear the announcers yell, I can always rewind the game and see the play I missed!
@time-to-rock-73 I missed that. Problem with these games is I sit with my laptop and type messages on the chat and miss all kinds of stuff on the screen!
@truehawk93 Cal arguing for a replay review with around 3 minutes left. Priceless!
@StLJhawk Thanks! I was looking for the total wins, not just in the series between the two teams. I'd guess we're about 20 behind.
@Crimsonorblue22 With all due respect, he's a fine recruiter and it takes some skill to get new guys every year to perform like he does. I think he's coached in 3 or 4 championship games so that takes some doing.
@Crimsonorblue22 He's a national championship winning coach who can't coach?
@Crimsonorblue22 So can Cal, right?

Rupp is an easier place to play than Morgantown. Seriously, Rupp is huge, reminds me of the Deandome and why KU would be insane to ever think about building one. That crowd just doesn't seem to be intimidating like WVU, ISU, Indiana, Duke, and of course AFH.
-
JJ is gone. Duh! I think sometimes we get fooled by a bad game by a freshman and say he's not ready. This guy is ready. On the biggest stage of the year 20, 10, 3, 2 steals. Phenomenal.
-
Frank is still the POY. An unspectacular 21 points, just wish he'd be a little more clutch in his FT shooting.
-
We will survive without Carlton. If there was ever a bad game for Carlton this was it. He had to stay home in Lawrence (I assume), watch it on TV, live chat on the Bucket and now he's thinking they don't even need me. Unless it motivates him to get his mind in gear to be a great teammate and his skills begin to help us, but I'm not sure.
-
Our experience will make us dangerous until the last game of the year. Not saying it for sure means we cut down the nets, but why not?
-
Self is flexible. I'm not an X's and O's guy, but his move to zone won this game for us.....I think.
-
For us Bucketeers we now have something for the naysayers who say this team hasn't beaten anyone. I'm not mentioning names and I don't want ya'll to mention names either, but wins like this speak volumes.
-
Cal went to his bench just as much as Bill Self. He used 8 guys, but 4 of his logged major minutes.
-
We have bragging rights over the scuzball cal and their arrogant fans. That counts for something! I suppose we'll play them in the Champions classic next fall, it's their turn in the rotation. So we'll have to hold serve then too.
-
We gain one win on the all time win list on Kentucky. Don't know what it's at, but someday.....
RCJHKU!
@Eric-san I never quit!
Remember UK has a bunch of babies playing and we've got 3rd and 4th year guys playing. That experience is keeping us in this.
Frank gets hammered but no call.
Coleby is a foul machine but who cares, how about that lob?
And we're down by 6 only. They haven't quit.
Every time you watch a telecast like this it's important to remember that ESPN owns the SECNetwork. But no, there's no conflict of interest there.
On another note, it'd sure be nice if we started making our bread and butter.
@HawkChamp I had the same thought. We're totally off.
@DCHawker Embarrassing for whom?
This is starting to look like KU kentucky from a few years back.
@KansasComet Just a nod to our old friend @stupidmichael who wrote that at the beginning of every chat.
I'm scared
Shoot thought they were showing Duke losing there.
Just getting you ready for the people who think we will not win another game this year.
@KUSTEVE I'm pumped but I think we'll lose!
@HawkChamp We never do? What about 18-2 don't you understand?
@Crimsonorblue22 Don't watch then!
@jaybate-1.0 Shortest indefinite? Ask coach K!
LOL Jaybate! Never know what I'm gonna read when I open up the Bucket! Of course if you broaden it Grayson Allen could be in the running.
You may recall a month ago I posted a picture of me and Terrence Howard and future Jayhawk Markese Jacobs was playing. He has some nice highlights in it including a nice throwdown at 2:14, and the last clip. The kid's got some major ups. Video gives names of kids making the plays so you can see when Markese is featured.
@Crimsonorblue22 Oh, well done. Did you have any bigs left? That's important. My rec team played with 4 guys but we had 5 guys. I was the 5th guy but we figured we'd have a better chance of winning with me on the bench so I would sit out!
@Crimsonorblue22 Sorry, by Friday afternoon dealing with 200 inner city HS freshmens (not my word, my principal's) my brain is fried. I'm not catching your drift.
@brooksmd Not sure this is making a mountain out of a mole hill. Of course at this point we're all speculating, but I'm not liking this distraction as we head into the toughest part of our schedule either
@BigBad It's hard to think of a scenario like this though where Self has had to make a decision like this.
I went back into the archives and discovered these teams. My criteria was playing 6 or 5 in the championship. Time doesn't permit me to go back and research those teams to see if they were playing only 5 or 6 guys all year or if the coach decided for the final to throw caution to the wind and keep just the best guys in there. I also went back to the earliest knowledge of this happening that I knew of which was the..
1963 Loyola Ramblers Yes they won a championship and won it with 5 guys playing all 45 minutes in the championship game against Cincinnati which only used 1 sub for 4 minutes in the same game which is still one of the tourney's biggest upsets.
1974, NCState played only 7 guys, but really 6 as 1 sub had only 2 minutes when they knocked off Al McGuire's Marquette Warriors.
1975 UCLA used 4 guys all 40 minutes and then two others split the other 40 minutes in winning yet another title. This was in contrast to their 60's titles when they had an extremely deep bench.
1977 Marquette used 7 in their win over Deano and UNC.
1988 Billy Tubbs only went 6 deep in one of history's greatest coaching blunders as Larry ran guys in and out with fresher legs.
2003, although this painful game doesn't match my exact criteria of using only 5 0r 6 players Roy only had 7 guys earn minutes that game. I don't remember that team being particularly thin, but I also didn't have KUBuckets where we talked ad nauseum about these things either.
Pretty thin list. Most teams win these days with more than 6 guys in other words. Not sure if we'll basically have to go with 6 or 7 the rest of the way. Bragg may catch a break again like last time, but he may not. But we've got the talent to carry this thing deep into March, but do we have enough to seal the deal? I'm not sure.
@approxinfinity Not sure about the mouthswabs.
@approxinfinity It'd be interesting to see our Big12 record in recent years because it seems we are 6-0, 7-0 in the league every year and then we never get past that 6, 7 win mark until after we lose one or two, then the rest of the league thinks they have a chance. Of course this year, it's playing with 6 guys, and 1,5 bigs on the roster.
@Jesse-Newell was pointing out on his podcast, or maybe it was his sidekick, that sacrificing a win at UK for the good of the team might be necessary. Those words were spoken before the current distractions. He then said Self would never 'throw' a game even if it meant future success of the team, and I think he's right, but now, preserving Franks, JJ's, DG's, LL's and Svi's health for March is important.
We might need to sacrifice another Big12 title for the good of the team in March. We all know how talented we are. Going into March ready for the dance, relatively rested, and relatively healthy is better than being totally beat up by trying to win another league title and #1 seed.
In 1988, injuries forced Larry Brown to utilize his brilliance. A little known football player Clint Normore was invited to play, and contributed significant minutes all the way through to the last game. In that said last game, Billy Tubbs must have had a perilously thin bench too and only used 1 sub that entire game. Coach Tubbs blew that game as I think that team was deeper, but on April 2, it only went 6 deep, and they got the silver medal as a result. Anyone know any KU footballers who have some hoops skills?
LIghtfoot, Coleby, your number is up. Please be ready to play.
@mayjay They had an excellent, the best imho, sports podcast for years called the Sports Retort. The writer of the article you posted was one of the hosts. I used to tell people I listened to a podcast from the WSJ, not telling them it was about sports. They were very impressed! I might check out the article on Alexa. Sounds interesting.
I think sometimes day of those articles are free and then in archives become paid content, especially at the WSJ. I know I'm impressed you read the WSJ, or is it just for the sports? !!
@mayjay Wish I could read it but it requires a log in.
Parity coming to college hoops? Probably not, but interesting times indeed.
@JayHawkFanToo Is that legal? :smile:
This looks very bad.
@Crimsonorblue22 You mean our guys having career nights?
@jayballer54 @DCHawker I know we talk a lot about it here, but what does it really matter if someone has a career night against us unless it leads to a win? I don't care if the WVU kid had a career night if it led to a loss for them which of course it didn't, but that's the first time a career nighter beat us this year. And how do we prepare for preventing someone having a career night? Not sure. Sometimes kids are just feeling it. Remember Lafester Rhodes? 54 points against Iowa, and everyone was saying who? I just don't think it's a big deal that it seemingly happens to us with regular frequency.
@Crimsonorblue22 I'm glad we don't ever try to attempt stupid stunts like that. Blue bloods need to act like blue bloods or else they can stop being in the blue blood club!
