No matter what team you pull for • Aug 18, 2024 02:30 AM

On a hot day a woman told Yogi he looked like he was trying to keep cool in the shade. Yogi said "lady you don't look so hot yourself."

@mayjay said in No matter what team you pull for:

@wissox "Asterisk" detracts from "amazing."

No asterisks in baseball.

Let me try again, He's an amazing player in the short right field of Yankee Stadium.

Generic soccer thread • Aug 17, 2024 02:24 AM

@AsadZ Does KU not have a mens team because of title 9?

No matter what team you pull for • Aug 17, 2024 02:22 AM

@jayballer67 What does "He's amazing" mean to you that I wrote?!!

No matter what team you pull for • Aug 17, 2024 02:21 AM

@benshawks08 Yeah I saw that too. Judge would've had a grandslam against the Sox the other day if his ball had been hit in NY instead of Sox park.

No matter what team you pull for • Aug 16, 2024 03:28 AM

Judge has a little league distance right field in Yankee Stadium. He's amazing but there needs to be an asterisk next to his name.

New Stadium questions • Aug 14, 2024 02:51 AM

@dylans So you're not a fan of the waving the wheat light poles huh?

New Stadium questions • Aug 13, 2024 12:15 PM

I mean, for a truly unique experience, not only should the LED's wave the wheat, but the entire light towers should also wave.

2024 NFL Season • Aug 13, 2024 02:34 AM

@rockchalkjayhawk Super Bowls aren't nice things?

2024 NFL Season • Aug 12, 2024 03:02 AM

@FarmerJayhawk Oh, how soon I forget. Yes, he's a Jayhawk! And he's a Bear. I just got a feeling things are on the upswing.

2024 NFL Season • Aug 12, 2024 02:48 AM

@FarmerJayhawk Huh? Marty Booker coming back? Kidding of course, but I really don't pay attention to the Bears until the games are real. Hope we got a good one though!

2024 Recruiting • Aug 10, 2024 01:43 PM

@BShark Even though it's kind of a local school for me it's really under the radar here so really not sure why.

2024 Recruiting • Aug 10, 2024 02:27 AM

Got some high scoring guy from Northern Illinois David Coit. 5'11" guard who average 20 points per last year on a poor team. NIU is my grandmothers, wifes and nieces alma mater not that thats important to you but important to me.

Tim Walz • Aug 10, 2024 12:57 AM

What's sad is in 2016 if the Democrats had put up a better candidate than Hillary they'd have won. In 2020 if the Republicans had said enough with Donald and nominated someone else they'd probably have beaten Biden.

Tim Walz • Aug 09, 2024 10:25 PM

60 years old? Check. Former HS geography teacher? Check. Diet Dew lover? Check. Prematurely gray? Check. This guy has so many similarities to me that I have to vote for him. But I won't.

Not sure if anyone watches Peacock for the Olympics, but I have been. Harris runs tons of ads. I can live with the term pro-choice, but hearing her say reproductive freedoms have been taken away just bothers me so much. No one has lost the right to reproduce. If she wants to say the right to abortion has been taken away, that's at least a partial truth. But more abortions have occurred since the Supreme Court overturned Roe V Wade. People will then say to me well vote for Trump then because he's pro life. Not sure if that's true either, but his baggage, heck why sugarcoat it, he convinced his supporters that the election was stolen and people died in an insurrection as a result, is a huge reason to not vote for him. Hush money to porn stars, twice impeached, wow, just can't fathom voting for that man.

I'm a political refugee. Never Trumper. Never Democrat. Still conservative, except I don't like guns, I don't mind the presence of immigrants flooding into our country, and I'm even starting to see and reluctantly agree with global warming theory more and more. So whom do I vote for? Neither seems like the best choice.

Need Games To Start • Aug 05, 2024 07:07 PM

My favorite Olympic joke. Reporter: "Are you a pole vaulter?" Athlete: "No, I'm Svedish, but how'd you know my name is Walter?" (must pronounce walter with a V for it to make sense.)

Need Games To Start • Aug 05, 2024 12:26 AM

@dylans Yeah I do understand the media a little bit and Simone is quite a bit cuter!

Need Games To Start • Aug 04, 2024 01:01 PM

Since there's a little Olympic chatter here I'll give my olympic rant of the day now. We've all heard the names Simone, someone who couldn't handle the stress at the last olympics and quit and Shakari, a sprinter who never made it to Tokyo because she failed a drug test. But I was shocked yesterday to watch the 30 seconds of coverage of mens shot put and see an American named Ryan Crouser win his 3rd gold in a row. That's 8+ years of dominance in his sport and unknown to probably many of us reading this today. NBC coverage is really pretty annoying.

Need Games To Start • Aug 04, 2024 12:57 PM

@ImmunoHawk Thanks for your c0ntribution! Hoping your immune system is strong enough to keep you healthy after dealing with all the parasites, viruses and bacteria infesting my comments and several others here!

Need Games To Start • Aug 02, 2024 02:29 AM

@mayjay Oh man, apologies not needed for that minorest of offenses!!

Need Games To Start • Aug 01, 2024 08:31 PM

@mayjay Um, when I signed up for the Olympics the cheapest deal was 7.99. I don't have replay like pause/rewind, etc.

Need Games To Start • Aug 01, 2024 02:57 AM

@mayjay I'm a little confused by your post. I got the peacock for this, all the games are available for replay on demand it seems. Just got the basic 7.99 deal.

Giving up the Sox • Jul 29, 2024 11:25 PM

Until Jerry Reinsdorf moves on one way or the other, I will no longer waste any emotional or financial support to this team. We're heading towards all time worst territory.

In brief Jerry has caused Harry Carey to jump to the other side of town, fired Tony LaRussa (back in the 80's), caused a lockout that ruined an golden opportunity for his own team to win the world series in 1994, made a white flag trade in 1997 when we were 3 games out of first at the end of July in 1997, traded Tatis Jr for James Shield, failed to sign big name free agents, allowed new highly popular announcer Jason Bennetti to leave for Detroit, nixed the architecht's plans for a Camden Yards style ballpark in 1989 leaving us with an awful stadium, and well, hired LaRussa when he was WAY past his prime and our team was loaded with talent.

I could go on, but I am now a Brewers fan because they too hate the Cubs.

Need Games To Start • Jul 28, 2024 01:06 PM

I lived for quite a while in a small Wisconsin town and had an acquaintance there who is the grandfather of Sam Hauser of the Celtics and Joey Hauser who is in the G League. We stopped at a supper club there Friday night for the delicious fish fry and Steve F walks in with his wife and grandson Joey! Kid making more than a million wearing old T Shirt and baggy shorts. Said hi, asked Steve if he could still beat his grandsons in horse and moved on. But it's just not every day you eat at a restaurant in central, rural Wisconsin and an NBA player and brother and grandpa of an NBA champion walk in.

Need Games To Start • Jul 27, 2024 03:52 AM

@FarmerJayhawk I didn't know I was, but I guess so! Preseason football bores me to death so I'll probably not watch.

2024-25 Kansas Basketball Schedule • Jul 16, 2024 06:47 PM

Dropping seating capacity by a 1000 is a slap in the face of the best fans in college hoops.

Generic soccer thread • Jul 15, 2024 12:14 PM

That image of Messi bawling after limping off the pitch was striking.

Thoughts On 2024 Schedule • Jul 10, 2024 01:53 PM

@kjayhawks Vegas game seats are starting at 164 on stubhub. TCU starting at 46. Illinois game in Champaign starting at 8 bucks! Yes I'll be there.

Jalon Daniels • Jul 09, 2024 10:06 PM

Will he stay healthy? That's the big theme for this season. We're all very interested in the answer to this question because if he stays healthy he goes down in KU history as a great. I think this kid could be a Heisman vote getter if he does.

@approxinfinity Are we generally considered to be inferior to Canada in soccer? I don't follow super closely, especially considering I coach soccer. Did Canada make it there because of a favorable draw? I know we were considered favorites to move through the pool play but choked big time against inferior teams.

@dylans I still don't get that. Clark and Filipowski are both kind of idiots so people are going to criticize how they handled it but obviously not me. You run on a court a second after a game ends at full speed and the losing players are trying to get off, and in the Clark case even appear to target her, well if a player shoves the fan out of the way that's the risk the court stormer takes.

Tornados • Jul 08, 2024 05:45 PM

This is a cool tool: http://hint.fm/wind/ ↗

@approxinfinity Baseball and football are different I guess. A fan runs on the field and we cheer him on and then cheer even louder when the security dudes blast him near into eternity. My opinion, you run onto a court where a game ended seconds later all bets are off. I still don't get the criticism of him or that of CClark in similar circumstances.

Smith • Jul 07, 2024 01:22 PM

God bless that little girl with healing from this awful disease.

Chalmers & Sherron • Jul 04, 2024 01:40 PM

Seems like a stretch to me. Asking for money for future uses of their names/images I could see that. If people start seeking money that they would have made when that law/program/entitlement didn't exist it's a huge can of worms.

2024 Recruiting • Jul 02, 2024 05:02 PM

@jayballer67 Not sure if we could use him. Not sure why people would want to play for Underwood. He just doesn't seem like all that pleasant of a dude.

Fears' brother was playing for MSU when he got shot in Joliet, not fatally, but cost him the rest of the season.

Not many clues at the Champaign Room of why he backed out.

Generic soccer thread • Jul 02, 2024 02:20 AM

Angel Hernandez has come out of retirement and is trying out soccer as his next gig in officiating. He is reffing tonights copa match between US and Uruguay.

Linkon Cure • Jul 02, 2024 01:38 AM

@jayballer67 Whoever was coach before would not have even gotten an audience with Cure I'm guessing.

Linkon Cure • Jul 01, 2024 05:33 PM

He announces today. Do we have any chance at getting him?

Generic soccer thread • Jul 01, 2024 03:10 AM

WOW! What a goal in England Slovakia!!

Not worth a new thread, but I decided to end my Sox boycott last night and noticed the Rockies Jacob Stallings was born in Lawrence. Just looked at his bio and his did was longtime college hoops coach Kevin whom assisted Roy from 88-93 which means Jacob was born while his dad was coaching here. Not newsworthy, just interesting.

Kyle Filipowski saga is kind of strange. Seems odd but I kind of feel for him. To be the subject of national scrutiny for not getting drafted, then the news of his girlfriend and worse, estrangement from his family at present is tough to read. It's easier to dislike a kid when he's just dislikable because he plays for Duke.

Vermont/Wisconsin Food Musings • Jun 26, 2024 11:24 PM

I missed this cheesy syrupy discussion as i was in Glacier and Colorado the last two weeks! 60th BDay type of thing. But I'm a little offended. As most of ya'll know I am the Cheese State representative on the bucket and to not be asked about cheese is just offensive! Actually, I'm not that big of a cheesehead but Antigo is where we lived and still own property, and the local cheese maker makes a world champion parmeson. World champion brats from Eagle River is another favorite and maple syrup is made by the tank full around there and i think once led the world in maple syrup production. We switched to maple syrup when locals started giving us their own and we'd never go back to the cheap stuff again!

What sports do people still participate in? I'm into golf, disc golf, running, and open water swimming.

@FarmerJayhawk Bears? We must talk! Holding out hope we can win some games this year, but I'm skeptical.

Normally this so called dead time is baseball season for me but my woeful Sox are freeing up time for other activities and viewing. But in a normal year it's got to be the Sox, then the Jayhawks, then the Bears, then both U-Wisconsin teams. Thanks to LIV the PGA doesn't hold my attention nearly as much as it used to be. It's a starless sport right now.

@rockchalkjayhawk Ecuador lost a guy early to a red card, but scored and held the lead til 2 late goals allowed Venezuela to win. This Mexico-Jamaica match is a thriller too.

@dylans said in NCAA proposal to expand NCAA tourney to 72 or 76 teams.:

32 teams would be better for KU

Isn't that the round we lose in every year (besides 2022?)!!

@rockchalkjayhawk Isn't the conference tourney in effect a playoff for all teams in the country?

2024 Coaching Carousel • Jun 07, 2024 01:41 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 Saw a tweet about this possibly, hopefully (?) freeing up McNeely from his commit there. Commenter on that tweet mentioned Self didn't really recruit him after he de-committed from Indiana. So IDK, but someone here knows something!
