@Crimsonorblue22 I agree. Mahomes is a fun kid and I really enjoy watching him play. To see the KC's of the world win championships is a lot easier to take than another Boston team or NY team winning.

KU is #1 • Oct 21, 2023 04:18 AM

@approxinfinity I don't look at the Chiefs as villains.

@Woodrow Let a Wisconsin fan tell you why he's a douche. Calls the Badgers scumbags in a podcast last year. The day after the fatal shooting at MSU he shows up for a game in Madison wearing a ski mask. During the game in Michigan later in the year stomps on Tyler Wahl who is prone on the floor. I'll be honest and say there is some doubt whether it was intentional or not, it looked like it could have been, of course from my perspective it was intentional (!) but it was not a good month to be a foe of him, and while I love that he's a Jayhawk because he's very good, I also dislike it at the same time.

@Texas-Hawk-10 You embraced a team cheating their way to a world series?

KU is #1 • Oct 20, 2023 12:12 AM

@DanR TBH I have said the same thing to people sometimes who say things like 'this is so embarrassing' when their team is getting beat bad. I had a weak moment and used it here!!

KU is #1 • Oct 19, 2023 06:46 PM

The feast or famine nature of our past seasons is kind of astounding. 2017 Pounded by Oregon in E8 (at least we got that far) 40 miles from home. 2018 FF blowout against a great great team. (but that never happened now) Success. 2019 Embarrassing blowout against Auburn 2020 National Champs! 2021 Embarrassing blowout against USC. 2022 National Champs! 2023 Relatively embarrassing loss to Arkansas and their striptease coach. Not much middle ground there. Either we go far and its fun or we bow out early getting blown out. Or put it this way, odd year, embarrassed, even year great success. So really what could go wrong this year? Nothing, it's an even year!

Serious question.

Are y'all excited for this upcoming season? Is your excitement the same as always?

Or has the off-season of events (positive and negative) had an impact on your thoughts/opinions etc.

Interested to hear

Being a big baseball fan, and college football fan means I don't pay too much attention, and the season takes a few weeks to warm up on me. Oddly, the 4th #1 preseason ranking in Bills career makes me pessimistic because all the other years ended in 1st weekend losses.

I loved the early season hype my first year of being a Jayhawk when at Late Night with Larry Brown, the very first Late Night, they confidently proclaimed they're going to Dallas which they did, and easily could have won it. #26-14foulcount I guess because I was new to KU that season remains my favorite as they just had an incredible season. Loads of talent, legendary coach. Wow, such fun!

@Crimsonorblue22 That's a Jayhawk game I wish I had been watching.

@nuleafjhawk said in Some People will spew out anything, who actually believes this BS:

@wissox "Mahomes could be our QB and we're not beating Texas or Oklahoma."

So our QB two years ago was better than Mahomes when we beat Texas?

@nuleafjhawk I see, I had no idea what you were talking about. So you're saying Jalon is letting us down by not playing? I mean I'm not privy to Dr. reports or anything to discern how hurt he really is. If he really is, what's he supposed to do?

@Texas-Hawk-10 I forgot they made a playoff.

Wisconsin was the most logical jump last year if he was going to jump ship. Of course coaches make 'I'll die here in ....' statements and then a new greener pasture opens and they're gone. Lance won a lot at the D3 level. I'm just a little leery that he will not think he'll get to taste championships here in Lawrence and move on to a place where winning big is more possible. MSU? I mean you can't even win your own state. Not quite sure he'd ever think about that school. I think Wisconsin got the guy they wanted too so I think that threat is no longer.

@nuleafjhawk Say it!

Hypothetical re: Bean • Oct 16, 2023 02:14 AM

@Texas-Hawk-10 I don't know, I'm not as smart as Lance and he was pretty pissed about it to, but the offsides. You don't think I acknowledge them but I do, but the offside changed so much. It created a turnover when we would have had a first down. This team is still a work in progress and it's great to argue about a KU football game because for a decade we didn't give a hoot.

Blaming games on one call is an interesting business. While I also acknowledge that anything could have happened to us had the refs called it offsides, in many games a last play of the game type call means you can blame refs for a call that would have changed the outcome of a game. Despite everything that happened before comes down to a ref making the right call on the last play. Thankfully they almost always do. But at times they miss it and an outcome is changed because of the call. Saints-Rams NFC championship game is a pretty good example, not perfect, but pretty clear, if the right call is made, the saints whittle the clock down to an easy chip shot FG to go to the super bowl. Missouri fans point to the TRob block/goaltend and that noncall meant we win, they call goaltend, we lose. Even though lots of stuff leads up to that point.

Hypothetical re: Bean • Oct 16, 2023 01:38 AM

You can't say this is a dumb penalty. This is a block being made as the guy is being tackled. Play is not over as Lance was lied to by official. ?s=20

Hypothetical re: Bean • Oct 15, 2023 12:33 PM

Lance said the refs on the roughing penalty on Devin was after the whistle. It most assuredly was NOT after the whistle. Game changer? Momentum hurt a bit but we still had a first down inside their side of the field, but another in that series that really were baffling. Lance is pissed

Hypothetical re: Bean • Oct 15, 2023 03:33 AM

@Texas-Hawk-10 I acknowledged very clearly with "we made some enormous mistakes". And yet if that offside is called, we have a first down, inside their 40, and I really like our chances. It was as huge a non offsides call there's been since Abner Doubleday invented football.

Hypothetical re: Bean • Oct 15, 2023 02:08 AM

One offside call. We made some enormous mistakes and yet were still in great position to close it out and one offside the refs don't call and we lose because of one call. The unneccessary roughness call was a little shady to me, but one offside call. I do think we should have punted there TBH.

Hypothetical re: Bean • Oct 14, 2023 02:14 PM

Is Jalon out again today?

With about 25,000 in attendance in Houston tonight we don't have to worry about being the conference attendance laughingstock anymore.

IARP update • Oct 12, 2023 12:14 AM

@DanR Thanks, that's right, Zions mom wanted a house, we didn't provide it and so he went to Duke where we presume she got her house which the NCAA never knew about. (but everyone else did)

IARP update • Oct 12, 2023 12:00 AM

@mayjay Was there some recording with him on a phone talking about money with DeSoso's people? I'm thinking I remember that. Sounds like some cheating to me, but I don't rightly remember.

@Texas-Hawk-10 said in IARP update:

Pretty much the penalties I said would happen years ago when this process started. Scholarship reduction and vacating the games Silvio played in during the 2017-18 season.

I guess this also means I didn't really see KU get their asses handed to them by Villanova in that 2018 Final Four.

Silver lining!

They're going to wreck college sports with this stupid realignment.

@Texas-Hawk-10 I just have trouble assigning GOAT status to the 2010 team because of their failure early in the tournament. My reason (and remember these are very subjective) for including 2003 was they were NC's if they'd just made 50% of their FT's that day.

It's a fun discussion to have as we've had great teams.

Interesting Games Today? • Oct 08, 2023 12:59 PM

@nuleafjhawk That guy should be coach of the year. He believes in his team so much that he does that.

Good stuff I think, but I can't read that without paragraphs!

Whoever said we were going to run for 300 yards today was wrong.

Say Goodnight to the Knights • Oct 07, 2023 11:02 PM

Oh, welcome to the big 12 directional school Central Florida!

Say Goodnight to the Knights • Oct 07, 2023 11:01 PM

Defense gets a stop finally. Let's get one more!

Say Goodnight to the Knights • Oct 07, 2023 10:34 PM

Tackled by his own player! Could've had a punt return and a KO return for a TD today.

Say Goodnight to the Knights • Oct 07, 2023 10:32 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 Oh, sad to hear. Thanks for letting me know. Used to like reading him and others commenting on Royals stuff.

Say Goodnight to the Knights • Oct 07, 2023 10:15 PM

Wasn't paying attention, thought Central Florida just busted a long one for a TD, now I see they only got 2 points for that TD. We should give up more 2 point TD's!

Say Goodnight to the Knights • Oct 07, 2023 10:07 PM

Central Florida doesn't want to be called UCF because it sounds like a directional school. Well they're sure playing like a directional school today.

Say Goodnight to the Knights • Oct 07, 2023 09:56 PM

Coaches who take points off scoreboard when trailing by a bunch don't make sense.

Say Goodnight to the Knights • Oct 07, 2023 09:26 PM

Wow, I'm a bit behind catching up to live, decided to fast forward through a punt because nothing ever happens on those....Wrong!

Say Goodnight to the Knights • Oct 07, 2023 09:16 PM

Excuses for their QB being gimpy but none for us missing our starting QB?

Say Goodnight to the Knights • Oct 07, 2023 08:47 PM

White Sox play by play guy Jason Benetti on the call. He's one of the best in the business.

Say Goodnight to the Knights • Oct 07, 2023 08:46 PM

These unis in that bright sunlight look like a bunch of dudes playing for the local psych ward where they escaped from. Do they even have numbers?!!

Interesting Games Today? • Oct 07, 2023 06:37 PM

@nuleafjhawk Did they go for the first down from there?

Say Goodnight to the Knights • Oct 07, 2023 04:07 PM

@Gorilla72 Thanks, I read this big long article about it.

@dylans Oh boy, I forgot about 20.

@FarmerJayhawk Could be. Gooden, Hinrich, Collison. A great collection of pro players.

So would anyone rank any of our championship teams above those teams mentioned above? In some ways, of course, they had what it took to win it all.

The 2008 team to me was the most complete of the 3 championship teams I've experienced. Yet they were the 'luckiest' (?) of the three also as Memphis choked at the line, and a miracle shot at the buzzer. Yet since it was against the inferior coach Cal, it also was very satisfying.

Listening to Billy Packer that game was also annoying as heck, so 2 of my 3 championships have been tainted by the broadcaster as Brett Mushmouthberger did the 08 game (with Billy) and just couldn't handle KU running with OU like they did.

Just saw a clip of the infamous 5th down game when Colorado spiked it on 1st down, ran two run plays, on 4th down spiked it again which fooled everyone and the Buffs scored on 5th down. It was against Missouri. Hilariously, Mizzou's fans stormed the field thinking they'd gotten the stop on 5th down, started tearing down the goal posts even though apparently no one caught the refs glaring mistake.

Reading the rest of the story now, Missouri fans, some at least knew immediately that the extra down was awarded and were storming the field because they were mad. Some had violence on the mind and tried to take out a Colorado player but instead hit a cop, big oops. That Colorado player had told his coach it was third down even though the down marker said 2nd down and McCartney told him to "shut up and just play football".

Just remember to write Central Florida, not UCF!

@DanR Interesting because if I made a list of best KU teams, and I'm only qualified to rate back to 1985, I'd say 97 was the best, 85 2nd best, 03 3rd best and finally rate a champion, 08 a bit ahead of '22.

NFL Season - 2023 • Oct 07, 2023 02:29 AM

@mayjay Agreed, but I'm old enough to have seen Singletary, never saw Butkus or Sayers. From everything I've read Butkus was probably the GOAT linebacker.

NFL Season - 2023 • Oct 06, 2023 12:11 PM

@FarmerJayhawk Him and Gayle Sayers are the two Bear players that I wish I could have watched. You tube videos are amazing. He was such a great ambassador for the game.

PGA/LIV golf ... something • Oct 06, 2023 01:16 AM

@rockchalkjayhawk Day 1 did us in. I watched very little as I had morning plans both days of the weekend. Heard about the stupid drama with Cantlay and the caddie and Rorie.

@FarmerJayhawk Fingers crossed. It'd be nice to close one out.
