Incidentally, ESPN broadcasting 4 baseball games per day yesterday, today and possibly tomorrow. Someone monitored ESPN yesterday from 8-2 and there were 3 brief mentions in all that time about baseball. ESPN hates baseball, they're annoyed by it and the inept commissioner of baseball just blindly lets ESPN bury the sport further and further into irrelevancy.
@dylans The simplicity of turning on the TV to watch something is what I'm going to miss. I like my expensive cable because 1, I do have the money to pay for it, and 2, it has given me nearly every KU/Wisconsin game in both sports for the last 2o years. I can only imagine the frustration of elderly people who want to watch their teams and being told, log into Peacock, Amazon Prime, ESPN+ or whatever and now figure out how to stream it onto your TV.
The 2nd issue, if it was just one thing to subscribe to, like ESPN+ then ok, I guess, but multiple sites to manage, remember when to cancel/renew, etc is just one complication of life I don't need or want.
Streaming games on Peacock and Apple TV and of course ESPN+ is starting to be normalized. Since signing up for ESPN+ to watch the KU-Miss St game earlier this fall I've found little to watch on the channel that interests me, but to cancel now is to sign up soon again for hoops. The cost? More money (about doubled from 5 bucks years ago to about 10 now) for less games is the maddening part of it all.
Today the BIG (which most of you know I pay attention to) announced their basketball broadcast schedule. 31 games are to be streamed on Peacock. Now these are not Minnesota-Norfolk St type games which most people would tolerate but 6 purdue games, 5 MSU, MU, UW games and get this, they're league games. And most of the games they're getting are premiere league games. So some of their showcase games will be seen not by casual fans who might happen on the channel and linger for a while. Less exposure, fans, particularly older fans especially will not tune in simply out of it's too overwhelming. Others will say, like I will it's too many subscriptions to manage.
Many BIG fans are upset about it. Most of us pay cable/dish or through some sort of ROCKU thing to get the BIG network, and other channels. Now they want us to pay MORE. Big 12 will follow suit I'd guess some day. More screwing over of fans.
NFL playoffs coming to streaming services near you THIS SEASON! It's the wave of the future they say, and well, I guess I watch too much sports anyways so I guess I'll watch less, but I really don't want to watch less of the teams I love to watch.
Here's a link with the list of games only available on peacock

The team that defeated a team that was only undefeated because of their weak conference should have been included, 2015 Wisconsin.
I suspect other writers might rank the Jayhawks better. Pretty subjective list.
I'm thinking 2018 Villanova, which as we know, steamrolled everyone in the tourney should have been higher.
His inclusion of 2019 Duke which lost in the sweet 16, but nearly lost in the round of 32 is the most egregious inclusion and shows that as @BeddieKU23 asserts Medcalf is a Duke chode.
@kuballin10 I believe it because I always thought you were a dork without even knowing how you look!!
@Gorilla72 exactly we don’t want central Florida thinking they’re facing bean.
@kuballin10 said in 2024 Recruiting:
@BeddieKU23 ding ding ding….
Not even dork face Scheyer can mess this up.
Well I’d like to propose that anytime someone mentions someone’s looks that they be required to post a picture of themselves and then we can make comments about your looks!!
Lance gonna need to find a QB in the transfer portal maybe.
@dylans LOL, I jinxed em, Baylor came back and beat them!
Congrats to Central Florida for their impending first B12 win against a real Big 12 opponent Baylor. BYU got their first win, but against a fellow interloper Cincy last night. By the way apparently Central Florida gets irked being called that so henceforth on these pages, although it's easier to type UCF, they will be Central Florida.
@rcjhdraft Glad you find humor in it. We don't
Turning into a rout after the ill advised 4th and short call.
Dumb. Should have punted.
@DanR Yes, I forget where I was that night, a wedding I think so I missed all of it. This today is certainly more interesting.
This game represents progress with this team. Last year we had no chance against Texass.
That was fun.
@kjayhawks Interesting. I stub hub my way into all sorts of places and really don't find the common fans being priced out as a thing too much. It involves playing the game to get the price you want. Waited for last weeks Purdue/Wisconsin game until the day before and had great seats in a near sell out stadium for 18 bucks.
@kjayhawks I saw that, think I asked about it in the game thread. I rarely leave games early, so it's a bit strange, especially in a competitive game like Saturdays was, but I hope Lance doesn't turn it into something real negative. Badger students wait until the Jump around and then they leave too!
So apparently Lance is making it an issue.
OK you locals, all I'm seeing on twitter is it's a big issue now on campus because students are leaving football games early and according to one tweet "It's 100% on KU students if Lance leaves KU". Is this just twitter overspeak or is this a real story. To me it looks like just an over reaction, but IDK. Any local info on this?
The easiest schedule ever belongs to Minnesota. Missouri is their only game against a power conference team. All home games except one neutral court site. Hilarious!
@DanR Yeah, I all of those too. I was thinking more of a recent injury like Moore suffered at the end of the previous game. Not sure if Joel is healthy how far that team goes? Doke in '19 is kind of the same as '14 in my mind. But it would have been nice to see how it would have gone with him!
So I've had to stay home from work for a couple of days. To fill in the time today I'm rewatching KU-Villanova. Got curious about the game so I look up the box score. The first available option was ESPN so I clicked. I see this headline and first four lines of the article:
"Villanova doomed by Kansas 3 pointers in Final Four loss". Strange way to write a headline unless you're strongly leaning to the Villanova side. No editors from the AP would notice that?
So then just on the main page, before I open the article I read this:
"Villanova needed Justin Moore on offense, to add another scoring threat and spread the floor against Kansas' swarming interior defense. The Wildcats could have used him on defense, rotate out on the Jayhawks shooters and help dig down into the...."
April 2, 2022, 11:02 pm- AP.
Then I clicked on the article and the first six paragraphs were Villanova centered before they start to credit our team. I mean people laugh (even some here) when I suggest there's an inherent east coast bias to the reporting of such events. There's not anything factually wrong with what they wrote, I often think about how that game might have been different had Moore not been injured, but to start a supposedly neutral article in that way just screams bias.
Maybe someone can explain it in a different way, but it just seems so obvious. Does the AP always write its stuff citing someone's injury in the opening paragraph of the game story? This was a game the Jayhawks led comfortably throughout.
The only time I can think an injury hurt our teams chances was when Jerrod Haase had the broken hand in 1997. That team was so loaded it was still an epic upset, but would it have been had Jerrod been healthy? I'm thinking they pull through if he was, but who really knows?
But what a great postseason 2022 was! I'm not letting this recently discovered slight bother me. I could tell you about the 2005 White Sox and the very real slights that team received, but I'll save it for another day.
@AsadZ He was fun to watch, lots of energy, lots of freshmen moments too which weren't so fun, but I was looking forward to 4 years of him. Too bad he couldn't defer his NBA dream and solidify it here.
High school hoops in Chicago and surroundings, plotting how to get out to KU and Wisconsin games this season, disc golf, ball golf.
@rockchalkjayhawk Wow, nice find. Hope Cheick gets to hang around.
The view of Chicago from my lakefront neighborhood in Indiana, being a grandparent, October for MLB playoffs and Jayhawk basketball right around the corner, coffee and so much more.
@AsadZ Santos is the only good thing we have going for us in Chicago!
@Gorilla72 Saw where the four newcomers are all 0-1 in conference. Rude awakening. I think it's going to be some time before they're relevant in our league.
@nuleafjhawk I have very bad long term memory, it only goes back one year so all of those other scores don't matter to me!
@nuleafjhawk Look last years score up, well, I'll do it for you, it was ugly as in U G L Y 55-14, so hopefully Lance has a few tricks up his sleaves. I'm fearful we could see a repeat.
Most years this time all we've got to talk about is basketball, but this years FB team is delaying the rather boring preseason chatter. Thankful for that!
BYU beat Arkansas who is giving Hades to LSU in Baton Rouge. Are we better than LSU?
@wissox But let's go ahead and get the TD.
Boy just getting a FG here ends it.
No ref, he was tackled in bounds don't stop the clock.
Dumb penalty, although it may have prevented a bigger play because that guy had some running room if he catches it.
BYU has 19 rushing yards
Finally a penalty called on them.
@nuleafjhawk Yes, I'm aware, I never really believed he had a chance though is kind of my point.
@nuleafjhawk Indeed. On the Heisman, not really thinking Jalon would be in any Heisman talks anyways! But there was a Heisman throw on that.
I wonder why so many fans left that game early? Baffling.
@nuleafjhawk said in BYU game:
I'm more than a little ticked that BYU can throw 20, 30, 40 yards downfield at will.
So you're a lot ticked? Watch out Kansas!!
Cobee having a big day. His return makes this a moot point but he should have knocked it down and taken the ball at the 35 where the play started.
Crimson, let's have it!
That's the second time they've false started out of the short yardage formation. Slow it down boys, you've got to get set first!
Our vaunted offense been outgained by 100 yards so far. Good thing the D has decided to score the football.
Knee was down first I guess, so a big loss of yards.
Grounding?
