Actually I saw that Minnesota hates the Badgers too much and they're pulling for uk.
@nuleafjhawk I would love to see a Badger/Spartan final. That would mean our (KU's) biggest rivals in terms of national attention would both lose tonight!

You're right. A mix of OAD's and very experienced players isn't a bad thing if it leads to a more satisfying season.
I decided to risk it @HighEliteMajor and went for the hottest wife available and got a great woman at the same time! We celebrate 25 years this summer which is better than some 11 year conference winning streak.
So if Shaka doesn't get his huge win against KU does he get hired by Texas?
Does KU make the final four again the next year instead of absolutely willing their way towards that final?
Did it change recruiting? I don't know who we lost out on after that game, but did someone maybe decide, ehh, maybe I'll go somewhere else?
If we beat VCU in a close one, do we recover from the scare that year and like in 2008, go on and win it all? As I recall, that was a pretty winnable final four.
Can he win in a place where hoops takes a way back seat to freaking football?
I welcome new coaches in our league. I believe that we need a competitive rival that each year is a near equal to KU.
They've kind of become America's team in this tournament. It'll be tough to win, but it could happen.
As far as we know we're the only bucketites to meet in person! Tomorrow I will in no way resemble a KU fan. I'll be sporting my Badger T-shirt, hat, etc.! And you're right, I am kind of wimpy, but teaching inner city kids is toughening me up!
I'm not sure what I think about the WUG either. I think we'll all regret KU's participation in it if someone goes over there and blows up a knee or something bad like that.
I don't know much about the competition in this tournament, but if we go over there and get walloped by a bunch of teams that may not be real good either.
Obviously the extra practice time will benefit us
I know what you mean about Cal, but it's hard not to give it to a coach who enters the final weekend 38-0.
Pretty big honor for a Badger to win that award. Maybe some more hardware coming this weekend!
I'll agree that they were kind of humble, but I do know we all kind of made a big deal of it when Wiggins got on the ground for a loose ball. I guess what I"m saying is I don't want humble OAD's either! Give me some non humble 4AD's, some meek 3 or 4AD's, some greedy 3AD's, some idiot 3AD's, some Mr. nice guy 4AD's!
Don't get me wrong, character counts, but we need people who are going to help us win!! LORD willing I only have another 25-30 years on this earth and I want to see a few more "One Shining Moment's" where KU is the star of the song!!
He wouldn't mention Kentucky by name in 2012? Classic! Maybe we could get him to be commissioner of the NCAA since he's needing a job and that (un)organization is in serious need of some common sense direction.
Well of course that's what I meant because with our present situation we're not going to win the rings that matter most.
"I don't want to go to some school and play like ....20 minutes" is code for I don't want to go and play at Kentucky in a platoon system.
I don't follow the recruiting as much as others, but I came across something the other day that gave KU the biggest chance at landing Diallo.
But I am with Nuleaf and HEM if he comes and leaves after another 9 loss 1st /2nd round exit, who cares?
I think KU needs to sign some RAD's.
They can come for a year if they want I guess.
I'd prefer they come for 3 or 4.
I just want them to be RAD's.
RING AND DONE
I seemed to remember legal troubles with Lance. I looked it up. Sexual assault allegations, pushing his girlfriend down the stairs allegations.
Glad he never came here.
I don't think he had KU as a finalist, but Bronson Koenig was being recruited by UW. He'll start tomorrow night and watching him play all year I always imagine how nice it would be to see him in a KU uniform.
Wasn't it down to us or Texas for Turner?
I always like to think that if he had to go to college first that Lebron would have come to KU! I mean, why wouldn't he have?
I'm glad I wasn't a college hoops fan during the 1960's. How boring it must have been to see UCLA win every year.
@DoubleDD It's a very 'what have you done for me lately world'. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Duke had a couple of early exits, I know once losing to Lehigh, and Mercer another year. A sweet 16 loss to Arizona as a 1 seed and i'm guessing some Dukies might have been thinking ill of coach K as well.
I wouldn't say we're to panic mode yet. Goodness, anyone remember the Roy 'monkey off his back' press conference when he finally won a 2nd round game? We had a few years then, but he hit the recruiting trail hard and got three guys who are still in the league and another, Wayne who should be except for his bum shoulder. He should have had a ring in one of those seasons. So it's cyclical for sure and look for a KU bounceback next year........or else!
@VoyagingJayhawk OK, if the Bears make the Super Bowl, I'd be thrilled. Royals and Sox in the league championship, I'd be thrilled. Since you seem not to care about hockey, I'll take another Cup!
I will take a Final four any day over a CC. I don't look at last years Badgers team differently because they didn't win conference.
And while we're at it, I'll take another Bears Super Bowl, A White Sox world series, and well, I don't want to get greedy, but another Blackhawks Stanley Cup.
I just perused the Chicago Tribune and there's no talk there of Fred to the Bulls. I think the Bulls are pretty content with Thibido (sp?) I don't follow them that closely, but will watch when I can and don't think of them as in need of a coach.
Larry Brown, the next coach at KU!!
Or since I led the 5th grade boys of West Elementary school, Antigo, WI to a nearly unblemished record and city championship, I might have the chops to step up to the next level.
Oh, you question my credentials? I'm the only KUBuckets member to pick the entire final four correctly.
And I'll work cheap. A million bucks would be fine. Maybe my old apartment on Tennessee Ave. would be available.
Here's whats crazy. I live near LSU, so I can't help but notice what they're doing. Mickey and Martin are really good players as sophomores. They're not first round material from what I've heard. As you know LSU is bringing in a loaded recruiting class. Talk about a good situation! A couple of experienced juniors to go with the loaded recruits. They'd be FF material. But forget that. LSU will be fun to watch, but no real threat unless Simons can carry a team like Carmelo did.
Salaries for all of our sports heroes and actors, singers etc are all insane, but to me, it's a sign the free market works. Those high powered coaches bring big bucks to the university so they're rewarded. It's the same way if instead of Texas basketball it's GM, or Target or whatever.
Or if I had read first, what @ralster said!
I think Gary Harris a couple of years back at MSU? I might be wrong.
Magic was a 2 and done, a rarity in those days for sure. Too bad he didn't stick around.
In fact it's interesting to think about the epic battles of the 70's and 80's and which wouldn't have taken place if it was in 2015. Certainly Larry-Magic wouldn't have happened. MJ, Sam, and James against Patrick and his fellow brawlers may not have, although Patrick was a freshman that year I guess.
Houston-Louisville in '83 or '84, what a show those teams put on with experienced players!
My senior year at KU probably wouldn't have been very magical without Danny around in 1988.
@Kip_McSmithers I really don't hold any warm feelings for Wiggins. He did nothing wrong, but having him on that team while we all knew he was going to be gone meant I didn't connect with him. I've connected with guys who stick around, even if they're relative stiffs. I will always remember Jamari fondly because of what he's done for the team. Wiggins, thanks for stopping by but you did nothing for me personally.
You hit the nail on the head as to why shortly after Temple I wrote "I'm done". It's tiresome to see inexperienced yet talented kids leave school early for the league year after year. Self needs to learn I guess how to find those 3-4 year guys like we had when we won a championship and when we nearly won another.
@Nuleafjhawk I was equally pissed when Gooden left. Carmelo doesn't win a ring if Gooden is there. He shouldn't have anyways, but that's a different story.
Of course, people talk about Wisconsin but what they may not realize is while Frank and Sam and Josh and the others were cutting their teeth in preparation for this year they were losing 10 games a season and losing to Mississippi in the first round like they did just two tournaments ago. Their success comes at a cost of some losses and early exits some years.
I'm always excited for the start of Sox baseball although the last two years left me without any optimism. I am stoked for this season, and yes especially to see Abreu again. And we start off the season in KC too!
I don't know which of your threads to comment on!! THE turning point of the game was this. Zags nursing a lead with the ball. Zag drives is stripped, zebra with view of play says it's still zags ball.
Zebra with xray vision sees through two players and says Duke ball. Overrules official with view of play.
Bo added a twist by always having a big around who could shoot the three. Have the guards drive and kick to the big at the line. It's worked best these last two years because UW has three bigs who can make them.
I'm not offended because it's just sports! I think UW has the best chance to beat them. But I also picked UK to win it all so I'm not real confident that it will happen. But...3 teams have taken them down to the last shot so it's possible. At this point anyone, please, even coach consonants! beat UK!
I really didn't see much of the kentucky game, I was emotionally drained.
I'm watching louisville and their equally sleazy coach right now. They set so many moving screens I've lost count. It's disgusting to see officials swallow their whistles like that.
I'm not sure the angle for the NCAA, I wouldn't think a uk-lou would be a ratings gold mine. I think enough Americans have contempt for both coaches that they wouldn't tune in. I would probably skip it.
I do know that I turned off louisvilles alleged championship two years ago. When Burke made the spectacular block on lou and they called a foul I'd had enough. Today they're mugging MSU, although since I started typing the tables have turned on the fouls a little bit.
It's really a shame that we see this happening.
Unfortunately I have a long memory of games I've watched with bad refs, starting with us against Duke in '86. Last years' UW-UK game is not in that memory bank, in other words, I think UW was given a fair shake in that match.
Yesterday drove me crazy, Frank got punched in the face again, they stuck a leg in front of the PG every time he ran horizontally atop the 3 point line, they missed about 22 moving screens, and really called too many fouls both ways. I rewatched the 2nd half and from about 8 minutes to 2 minutes I just fast forwarded because all it was all FT's all the time.
Everyone is talking about Dekker of course. The entire country would've heard of him if he'd played like that the last three years all the time, but he hasn't. We've seen he's capable, but he's had the type of hidden injuries that have limited him kind of like Selden. I really think Selden could break out in a similar way provided he gets healthy.
I think the thing that is helping the team the most is what you mention, experience. The guys we looked to for experience this year were sophomores and juniors, Frank M, Perry, etc. UW's sophs were still the young guys learning from the juniors and seniors. If Bill can redevelop his system to avoid the OAD's and build a core of experienced guys the sky is the limit. Next year could become one of those years for KU.
@lulufulu I don't track MCd's too much for any team really. I think Bo had one a decade ago, Brian Butch. The one moment I thought Miller was really exposed last night was with 50 seconds left, UW, up 5 brings the ball up the court and UA doesn't foul. It led t0 Dekkers incredible Larry Bird like 3 from the wing in front of Bo, ball game. If they foul, UW was in a little annoying habit at that point of making 1 of 2 FT's so it was still a bit of game.
I used to think Sean Miller in those discussions for who might replace BS. No longer. He's good enough to get teams pretty deep into the dance as he proved at Xavier and UA, but that's about it.
Speaking of recruiting, Turgeon just scored a real coup with Diamond Stone, who is from Milwaukee. Not sure how he lured him away from UW, but it's a nice one for Turg.
I saw an Arizona fan on ESPN saying the same thing. He's not a Sean Miller fan!
Well tune in next week to the Badger slanted telecast of the game which CBS/TNT/TBS will be doing. They did the same last year, loved it, except the result of course.
This week will be the height of Wisconsin fandom in the history of basketball, unless Notre Dame holds this lead!!
Thanks!! Too bad they're not playing KU next weekend! Remember Tarzewski? We all thought he was coming to KU. We could have used him this year.
And you spelled his name right too!! That was the first time I've seen him look Larry Birdish or something like that. And it came at the right time.
Starting to believe @jaybate-1.0 and his refereeing conspiracy theory right now.
Thanks, they're starting pretty well here in the 2nd half obviously.
I've got Michigan State, and UW, uk and duke
Well I hope that they don't mess anything up today or tomorrow because I still have a perfect final four!
Back to the SMU game and call. If the SMU guy is an offensive player in perfect position for a putback slam, no ref anywhere would have called that offensive goaltending. So why would have same ref called it defensive goaltending?
But for this to prove the refs wanted to determine the outcome, it was such an odd play that there is no way that a referee could have in that 2-3 second time span decided he was going to call a goaltending could there have been? Now if the refs had said we'll call a foul on any shot in the lane to help UCLA, well, you could 'justify' that on almost any shot in the lane. But that wasn't the case here, so I'm going to, as the NCAA's attorney, stick to my guns that it was just a bad call that the ref probably regrets after watching it happen in replay.
@jaybate 1.0
Here's a link to a game story that mentions the cheapie:
Well they're about to face their toughest competition all year in either AZ or Wiscy, and I believe Duke in the final. ND has been a giant killer this year too.
We all know UK's first loss is going to come in the Final Four. Am I allowed to trash talk since I'm not on the team?!!
No, I don't think it was. But I do think the Badgers took it as such and stomped them the rest of the way.
Well I would have called it if I'd had known what a difference it made in the game!
I'm groggy, I should be in bed. Call what?
I did hate to see the Badgers do this against Roy. I've never felt any animosity towards him for doing what he did.
Thanks! @jaybate-1.0 will like/dislike this one. A guy named Hicks punched Kaminsky in the face on a fast break, hit him with both hands really, and went up by 7 when Frank fell to the ground. The Tank left the game and a bomb and a traditional 3 point play in the next 30 seconds had the Badgers right back in it.
From the time of the cheapshot, the Badgers closed the game 33-19. Actually, not sure if it was a cheapshot, but the Badgers responded like it was which is what we should've done against Wichita the other day!
