@RockChalkinTexas It's a shame you're already married, you'd make the perfect basketball wife to watch a game with.
He is allowing the offense to open up by allowing Greene on the court. Even the announcer mentioned that is was a good thing that Brannen could shoot, because apparently he has no taste for playing defense. He didn't yank Cliff after trying to kill 4th row fans twice in the first minute. Selden is allowed to only shoot outside since he can't get to the basket any more. He is a defense first guy and always will be. Doesn't anyone on this site agree that we can work on these things. Damn, we put Tyler in the game with a 25 point lead, can't coach have the right to keep coaching the things we aren't doing well. Self knows that our Bigs aren't Withey and Aldridge. He simply wants a semblance of balance.
So you want to hire an offensive coordinator?
There seem to be many on this site that don't think that highly of him. he might not be a genius, but he is one fantastic coach that we are lucky to have.
I think what he was talking about with the term "Fools gold" is in this explanation of relying strictly on shots and ignoring the other facet's of the game. Back to the Basket terminology was not mentioned. His explanation is in the paragraph above. No "Green lights" have been taken away, all he wants is a more well rounded team. Texas Tech is not Kentucky and playing poorly, and rebounding and defending and moving the ball is something we have to work on. By the way, the assist in the second half to Perry who had sealed off his man was as pretty to me as Selden hitting a three.
Once again, what is wrong with Coaches statement?
@HighEliteMajor !Capture.PNG ↗
He's "Delusional"
"He cheapens and devalues what the team has accomplished."
"The man only see's what he wants to see."
Exactly what is wrong with the above statement by coach Self?
@Crimsonorblue22 I also saw a moment where Lucas did a Thomas Robinson - like seal to get a great pass at the middle of the paint and assist on an easy play. Cliff can rebound, Jamari has energy in a big body, Lucas can seal his man, but not one can do all three. There will always be a green light for an open shooter behind the line, but the most open of those shots start when the ball at least gets inside to the free throw line with a collapse and dish to a three point shot. I know what Self is talking about it the second half when we were swinging the ball just to get an open three. I give Brannen credit, he gets his shot off fast and is ready to shoot and score even when he is guarded. I love our three point ability and hope we're on every game, but, when it is not there, defense and set plays will have to make it happen. I like the fact that Cliff and Lucas were going for the outlet to get some transitions that finish in a dunk. Fans and Coaches can all live with the transition game.
From Matt Tait:
So, if there is a poor shooting night, will blaming the coach still be allowed?
Every team has flaws, we have ours, and remember this was Tech, but yes, I do think we got better as a team.!image.jpg ↗
Best three point game of the year. All open looks except for the one Brannen hit, but he gets his shot offso fast.
Games are always happier when Tyler plays. Another twenty game win season.
Except for the first two plays, Cliff was great. Self had he and Jamari in the game together. The inside game was much better during the second half.!image.jpg ↗
Will Tyler get to play tonight?
Cliff can slap a rebound and take it away from five people, but cannot catch or go to meet a ball when it is thrown to him. Brannen has probably been give 3 TO's this year throwing it to Cliff where Cliff did not try to come out and meet the ball. He might have a good position, but rather than meet the pass, if it takes him away from where he wants to be and the ball goes out of bounds. Also, sometimes he is like a quarterback that throws the ball into a crowd because that is where the ball is designed to go. If a man is open get him the ball, if he is not, reverse it and find an open man. Jamari turns the ball over, but his TO's usually involve traveling where he moves his feet on a fake. These are the final 8 games of the Conference season, Whatever you say, Coach will go with the player he trust the most, and his blood pressure has been raised many times this year by both of them.
Here is a cogent summation of the Big 12 race from the LJW.

Oklahoma on a 5 game winning streak and they are starting to play a little bit of defense. The Pre - Season pick is starting to look scary, though we still win the Conference if we take care of the road at TT and K-State.
Once again, it's the story of the Three Little Bigs.
Good coaching by Lonnie K.
@nuleafjhawk This Jayhawk actually did step on the throat of Missouri Tiger Win Wilfong in a Kansas City game in 1951. Both became great Pros.

Just to be clear, I am in the same crowd as you, which is why I threw this into the mix to get away from the people who know that things would be so much better if only Coach would do what they suggest. It is OK to suggest, but some of the rancor has me off put. Also, I thought for sure everyone saw that as my sarcastic defect that I carry with me.

Seems as if we have a pretty good team.

I agree with all of you, It is difficult for me to come back on this site after a loss and read all of the Jack Harry type comments about the ineptitude of the young people that play and represent the thousands of KU fans around the world. While I was watching the game Saturday, I saw that Cliff had the ball at the top of the key like every other big guy in the last twelve years has done to start a play. As Brannen was coming up from the baseline, he was covered like a wet rag on defense. I was actually able to get the word out before he did it. "NO" yet as a Freshman, he threw it anyway.
Yes, like a lot of us on this site, we love basketball because we played it in High School and for many of us, in College. We've all made a dumb play. But Dumb plays are suppose to decrease as the year goes on. I'm defending Cliff, but I can see the detriment of having him on the court if you haven't built up any trust. Brannen is playing more because he is a great shooter, but he would still not be on the court if his defense and decision making had not improved. I'm as dogged as all of you are after a loss, but these young "Rock Stars" are still kids that want to do the right thing. I noticed the vitriolic musing of of KULA and others waited 3 or 4 hours after the game to chime in on the stupidity of Coach Self, but let's remember that the team that Played Kentucky was the oldest most experienced team we've ever had on the floor with 4 fifth year seniors. We lost ten games last year with the ROY of the NBA. We have a great record and are ranked in the top ten. Everyone, count to ten and take a deep breath before your Jack Harry side comes out.
Just to get away from talking about a "Stubborn, Pig Headed, Poor Judge of Talent" Coach we've been stuck with these last 12 years, Here are my suggestions at mid season for the All Big 12 First Team:
Niang
Mason
Hield
Nash
Staten
Staten was the Pre-Season choice for POY but it looks like a race between Niang and Hield.
Just My Opinion.!collage.jpg ↗
Never mind , Siri told me that Oklahoma will beat ISU by 6 points. Some people root for a team because they have $ on that team. Me, when KU is not playing, I root for the team that helps KU.
The only father Roy ever had.

You're right, but OU impresses me more right now.
I'm always sad when we lose, but as much as I hated listening to Van Gundy, he had one good thing to say before I couldn't take him any more and switched the sound over to Bob Davis, and that was, the loss to Kentucky, was the perfect breakdown to give a coach a blueprint as to what he has and how to build on it. Jamari had to be in the game because wishing that Cliff is the one is just wrong. His telegraphed, top of the key pass to Greene allowed me to see almost a second ahead of time why Self needs hair plugs. Watching him try to guard Nash and Cobbins was painful. Jamari has come a long way but he will never be more than a big energy guy, however, he is actually more trust worthy tha Cliff. Our Freshmen were Freshmen in a road environment where even 2/3 of a usual crowd, watching a desperate team go crazy as their early press success led them to an even greater effort. Self had to play the hand he was dealt. Hopefully, Kelly, Cliff and Devonte haven't hit the Freshman wall. Jamari and Brannen played against the press because they had to. I believe in Coach. This is a game that will make us better. I predict that more than 1/2 hour will be spent on breaking the press. WVU, by the way gave us # 11 yesterday. If anyone splits with us it will be OU.
KU is a 1 point favorite today.
@JayHawkFanToo But in the Big 12 he sits on the bench.
@globaljaybird I bet you use the word "Whippersnapper" a lot.
@JayHawkFanToo Whatever pro league Svi was playing in, there are many overseas. He is not in the same Pro level league that Sasha is in.
@jaybate-1.0 in 1962, the Movie of Merrill's Marauders came out. My father worked for Warner Brothers and I was able to meet the cast of that movie. With all my siblings grown and in College, I became a child prodigy in Contract Bridge. At age 14, the TV Show "Sugarfoot" was on and it featured Will Hutchins who played the title role. He was also in the film. I played Bridge with he and other cast members. I recieved a Xmas present from him that year and all my classmates thought I was cool.
