With Dotson creeping up draft boards another PG could be needed

At best just one more year of Dotson I think.

Nova is a blueblood. Same amount of Natties as KU!

Poor Silvio • Dec 12, 2018 12:57 PM

International players are definitely coming to Gonzaga for free.

You sure this team is gonna mop the floor with us @BShark ? I'm not feeling it.

Easily. Light work for Jay Wright to DRUB Bill Self.

I think Dedric will be back. He just doesn't have the athleticism to get it done on that end of the floor. He's not fast enough to keep up with perimeter guys, and the 4's in the NBA will expose his size.

Grimes needs to get the ball and get downhill more often. He can't seem to find his place in this offense yet. He also may need to crash the offensive glass. Sometimes a few effort type plays can get you back on track offensively.

Dedric being back would get me really excited.

@BShark will Charlie and McBride be enough when Dotson leaves us? I can't remember, do we have another likely PG commit?

BIG trouble if Dotson does go early. Self should do everything in his power to get a 2nd year.

Quentin "Big Game" Grimes • Dec 10, 2018 08:52 PM

This next draft is sooooo weak is the biggest issue for guys returning.

Will KU Be Number 1? • Dec 10, 2018 01:32 PM

Definitely feels like #1 by default. Then get dumpstered by Nova and we don't have to worry about this discussion for awhile.

Even if it were possible it gets a hell no from me. He is a bad human being.

I think it’s a great hire, I know they didn’t have a great season offensively compared to last season but they had to basically start over up front and still put up better numbers than we did playing in the best division in CFB. I’m being told that both Tony Hull and Clint Bowen are going to return as assistants, they both are currently out recruiting. I think everyone agrees Hull needs to stay and I know Bowen hasn’t done great at DC but I think he’s a solid Safeties coach. He had a much better year this season than in the past. I’m fine with him remaining here just not as an DC.

Ugh. I want no part of Bowen staying. We can do better at literally any position on defense than him. I don't care if he loves KU. I also love KU but shouldn't be on the coaching staff.

CHANGE THE CULTURE.

Bowen has to go. Period.

Probably going to land Thomas MacVittle, a JuCo QB. #1 pro style JuCo QB per 247. I consider him more of a dual threat guy. VERY athletic for his size (6'5 230) and has been consistently clocked under 4.6.

I was hoping KU could get back in with Legendre but I would bet this JUCO kid is better than anybody KU has on the roster at QB.

@Texas-Hawk-10 No :airplane: zone.

The les miles effect in recruiting • Dec 10, 2018 02:13 AM

I LOVE JAYDEN ALREADY. GAHHHHHTTTTT DAMMMMMMMMN.

"I want to change the culture," Russell said, asked what he'd like KU fans to know about him. "As a person, I want them to know that as soon as I come here, we’re going to change the culture and we’re going to change everything. We’re going to start winning games and we’re going to run Kansas."

He continued.

"Like, K-State’s not even going to be in the question anymore." Russell said. "So I just hope people know that.”

Agbaw will announce January 9th. He just posted this on his twitter account.

The les miles effect in recruiting • Dec 10, 2018 01:17 AM

@jayballer73 Russell + Agbaw is the start of a toughhhhh secondary.

KU is going hard to flip Garber too.

The les miles effect in recruiting • Dec 10, 2018 01:14 AM

I would bet on Valerian Agbaw JR committing to KU as well. He visits on the 14th. Chevis Jackson was all over him when Jackson was at Ball State.

Jayden Russell to KU.

KU had a big Kenpom boost to start the season due to perception. KU actually kinda sucks, so sites like Kenpom are catching up to that.

Feels like a shocking early tournament exit kind of team.

New Mexico State Game Thread • Dec 09, 2018 12:51 PM

I'll just copy paste this segment for those without an Athletic sub.

  1. Bad post defense

Now the bad …

It’s not a good sign when mid-game a coach decides he needs to double-team the post. It’s basically admitting that your guys cannot guard their guys, and that’s the white flag Self threw up against the Aggies.

“I thought our bigs made their bigs look really good tonight,” Self said.

For anyone who was wondering if Kansas could be better without Azubuike, go back and re-watch KU’s defensive possessions in this game. The answer is no. KU’s best defense has been played this year with Azubuike on the floor, because he protects the rim and eliminates the thought of playing through the post. Only seven times has an opponent finished a possession with a post-up against Azubuike this season, per Synergy, and those possessions have yielded just four points. It’s inefficient offense.

But with Azubuike sidelined with his ankle injury, it was obviously a big part of New Mexico State’s game plan, attacking Lawson in particular.

Lawson could not handle NMSU’s Ivan Aurrecoechea, who scored 14 points on 7-of-10 shooting, most of which came with Lawson guarding him. NMSU’s other post player, sophomore Johnny McCants, scored 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting, his first college game in double figures.

Things got even worse when KU started doubling. The Jayhawks gave up some wide open 3s when their guards tried to dig in.

And when KU tried to double with a second big, the defensive rotations were often late. Two of the most frustrating possessions for Self were these two late when KU doubled with less than 10 seconds left on the shot clock, which is a no-no.

The good news for Kansas is its next opponent, Villanova, rarely plays through its bigs in the post. The Wildcats do invert the floor and play through their guards — much like they did last year with Jalen Brunson — but Jay Wright is probably not going to change up what he does to put his big men in unfamiliar territory.

Still, the larger takeaway from this game for Lawson is he needs to be better at the defensive end, particularly without Azubuike on the floor. Whether it’s through the post or other actions, the scouting report on Kansas is that Lawson is a guy you can attack.

It’s still early in the season and Self has a pretty good track record when it comes to building elite defenses, but Lawson is going to need to really improve for this team to get there.

Player of the game: Dedric. 2nd place: Mitch. 3rd place: Marcus Garrett for shotputting a 3 ball in.

When some Spanish derpface goes 7-10 against you in the paint you don't get player of the game. Dedric made big buckets down the stretch but NMSU would not have been in the game with an athletic, defensive big.

New Mexico State Game Thread • Dec 09, 2018 03:54 AM

Garrett shot better from three than our 5* CG, Chuck and Vick? WHAT WAS THIS GAME?
