If not for the legacy aspect, I'm not sure Duke would have went for him. But since they did, Duke ranking bump and whatnot.

From Hillkick on the Phog, typically has good info.

"I havent spoken to my source as to why he flipped to Nova, but I can speak to why Kansas was in the top 2 and why since last year, we’ve seemed to be his second choice:

Why KU was in the mix:
Self
Loves the atmosphere, program
Family
(Adidas a non-issue....for the record, he’s on a Under Armour AAU team, but Goolsby runs the cleanest AAU program in the sport)

Why we fell to 2nd:
Our recent history of loading up on talented bigs (DeSousa, McCormick, D Lawson, K Lawson, Azu)
Leading for a similar player (Hurt)
UNC (and Nova) are marquee programs but unlike KU/Duke/UK, are less likely to land one and done types that will take over program
A little itch to get away. Not in a bratty way way like Bol Bol, but in a life growing way

JRE is a very polite, cool kid, who loves KU and was upfront with the staff that he wasn’t a slam dunk commit. It’s about his personal beliefs about playing early, a better chance at having a large role on O and experiencing life on his own before he’s a professional. "

Take our lumps now, ride out the storm and see what's available in the spring. The news cycle will be on someone else by that point.

It's a good thing the 2019 class wasn't chalk full of stars. KU needs to find at least two front court options that can contribute next year. Maybe 1 recruit, 1 transfer who knows.

I think we are still in a good spot for Zeke. He visited twice in two weeks. Selling him a spot is easier without JRE in the picture

Yeah, might have to add a grad transfer, or play some small ball. But Zeke + a good grad transfer probably means a more traditional line-up again.

Agree on the 2019 class.

@KUSTEVE your Shockers beat a small Christian D2 school 75-64 last night. 10 minutes in it was 15-15. Might be a tough year for your boys.

New 2019 Recruiting • Oct 31, 2018 12:31 AM

Zeke is our absolute best hope among the names KU is involved with now. Other than that, KU will get involved with guys that aren't even on the radar right now I would bet.

You'd be correct. Part of Nnaji being a better long term prospect is his athleticism.

Bear in mind, Dedric is a terrible athlete (by freak standards) but an amazing basketball player.

New 2019 Recruiting • Oct 30, 2018 05:13 PM

@Crimsonorblue22  Nothing to do about it. If he bought the kool-aid enough to believe he will play some wing at Nova what can you do? Self/KU will bounce back and field a competitive team next year.

KU has a really good shot at Stanley because of his dad, imo @jayballer73

New 2019 Recruiting • Oct 30, 2018 04:56 PM

Bruce is definitely sharpening that ax. Bringing in an unranked 2019 SG for a visit. Name is Goodnews Kpegeol. If KSU offers on his visit, it would be his best offer by a mile.

Destroy Denver • Oct 30, 2018 03:48 PM

justanotherfan said:

Chiefs have the benefit of having lots of different ways to hurt you offensively, moreso than any Chiefs team I've ever seen.

They can just run it and would probably be an average offense with Hunt and Ware pounding defenses. It wouldn't be exciting, but a run heavy Chiefs offense would not be bad.

They could go to the other extreme and just throw all the time and would have a top 7 offense with all of their receiving weapons.

Mixing the two is deadly.

Nobody can stop Hunt, Kelce, Hill and Watkins all the time. Maybe you can bottle up two of them, or maybe even three. But you lock up on Kelce and Hill in the pass game and Watkins just gashes you. Play back and Hunt runs wild. Play up and Hill and Kelce rip off big chunks down the seam or deep down the field.

If the Chiefs defense can just be top 20, they are a potential Super Bowl champion.

Well said.

This is what we saw against Denver. They tried to cover Watkins with a LB to take away other options, the results were disastrous for them. The offense kind of turned a bit when Hill got a bit nicked up plus the Chiefs started coasting. Really hoping it's nothing serious with Hill.

Also worth noting that Lula da Silva was going to win, and was thrown in jail on bullshit charges, put in solitary confinement and no one has access to even talk to him.

This was a truly awful result. Humanity as a whole was worse for it. I know people in Brazil and I am genuinely concerned for them. It was already hard enough for LGBT there...

It was a joke, for effect. I didn't mean ACTUAL cages.

Anyway, I have seen some videos where ICE has arrested ACTUAL US CITIZENS just because they were Mexican/speaking Spanish, that pisses me off.

@BShark we can't lose another game like the Oregon game. Great kid, but.....

My point was that there were other players, highly ranked, on all those teams that were supposed to start. No one was predicting Bragg would be a bust and you can never predict injuries like Doke. The rosters had plenty of bigs, the guy taking the 12/13th scholarship is never going to be a world beater.

New 2019 Recruiting • Oct 30, 2018 01:48 AM

@FarmerJayhawk KSU people were acting like their class is done. If they are adding Samuel potentially, I guess Bruce is sharpening his axe on a currently unsuspecting kid.

I'm going to have to agree with @mayjay it doesn't hurt to have a Landen Lucas around. Mitch is essentially another Lucas level player. The problem is if they have to start. Keep in mind the plan was NEVER for Lucas to start. Not one single year in his time at KU.

Anyway, Self will find some at least half-real guys, plus the returning roster should be decent. I'm not worried about next year as things currently stand.

Let's look at other bigs in years Lucas got starts

SO year: Perry, Cliff, Jamari, Hunter

JR year: Perry, Diallo, Bragg, Jamari, Hunter

SR year: Doke, Bragg, Coleby and I guess Mitch but he wasn't expected to be a factor

@BeddieKU23 Wow, I never heard that on Preston .. that he was never deemed eligible by the NCCA. Why would we have played him in the MU thing then? That really doesn't add up to me. Why would the car thing be used as cover? Why do we need dishonest "cover?"

I don't think KU is clear. It goes to the knowledge of the payment to Preston (his mom, or whoever). If KU coaches knew of the payment, presumably didn't tell the Administration (AD), then a question arose, everyone then did a pow wow and concluded to hold him out, and we held him out, that doesn't clear the coaches.

He was cleared in one aspect but not another. I don't remember the details. Maybe @FarmerJayhawk could chime in here please?

Man it's starting to get really depressing looking here for any 'thing positive on recruiting. I mean I know you guys are just posting things you have read and heard. - I think the reason it's so depressing to think we are losing recruits that we all thought we were sitting good on

ONCE just ONCE I would like to be able to see something positive on our recruiting the recruits. - -Looks like we are losing to Nova on JRE , and that absolutely sucks. -- I just think we have lost Hurt , nothing solid but something is tellin me we have lost him - - - -I know it was crazy maybe to even think in the remotest - -crazy I know about even having a chance with Stanley Yet that was what I was thinking - -now it look more and more he IS NOT leaving the Coast , although I think someone here was mentioning from an article they had read about his visit to UCLA made it pretty official we had lost him

That article didn't say that to me , in that article his dad STILL had some pretty good things about KU and Coach Self - -but yet I don't think he is coming , Soooo that leaves us with Zeke. Now I fill confident about him yet even with him I've been hearing about Sweattie boy and Arizona - this could turn into a really sucky year. - -like I said ONCE please SOMEONE deliver me some good news on the recruiting front. - - see I'm depressed now lol. ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Something positive: I really like the addition of McBride. Dude is a BUCKET. Great shooter just needs some time to get stronger in the program. Should be a very nice 4 year guy.

If Self closes this class with Nnaji, Hurt and Stanley that would be pretty hot.

Stanley will be a tough pull, but doable. His dad sure seems to love Bill Self.

I think Purdue might actually be a bigger threat than Arizona for Zeke.

Too early to really tell with Hurt. Still hasn't taken any OVs.
