Has KU really ever been blindsided by an eligibility issue lately? I don't think that is 100% acccurate, unless I'm missing someone

KU or Self? I think Self knew the risks when he recruited Diallo, Preston, Cliff, Selby and Arthur.

Here's what I know about JRE. Now that it's kind of out there, I can say his people think he can play the wing and has been promised some run on the perimeter at Nova, where KU sees him more of a traditional 4 (which, to be fair, he is). It's also not over by any stretch of the imagination. KU certainly has their work out to close, but they definitely can.

I love JRE's game, but man, he is not a wing. He's a CENTER in Nova's system.

Recruiting, man. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Lol, for sure. I almost just replied to your post with #LiesToldInRecruiting but wanted to put some more words to it.

@BShark Wow, if everyone is happy then all the anger, and posted claims of illegal recruiting, in fan reactions to recruiting surprises are just pretend?

Well, let's be honest, the fans don't matter as long as they show up or watch. ;)

Kids talk about this crap at AAU games. It's an open secret. So why hasn't it been blown up? I would suggest because everyone is happy.

Big swing and a miss. I've already moved on. I can't blame him. Staff selling him and Hurt on playing together was never a good idea in my opinion. I didn't ever see a scenario where they could start together on the same team. Now we might miss on both.

Absolutely no way to spin this one. Just have to move on and hopefully add Zeke Nnaji.

New 2019 Recruiting • Oct 29, 2018 04:53 PM

@BeddieKU23 I didn't read it that negatively. That said, it's going to be extremely tough to beat UCLA.

@Crimsonorblue22 I mean that the information comes from posters that have had good info in the past. The news itself is a gut punch of course. Jay Wright OWNS Bill Self at this point.

Good stuff on the Phog about JRE. Apparently he has concerns about starting and how he would be used at KU. Bought into Jay's sales pitch. WOOF.

So what is the word on what they were getting, "absolute top guys" or not?

http://arizonasports.com/story/1438377/report-suns-jackson-mother-received-2700-committed-kansas/ ↗

according to this report Josh Jackons's mother got a $2700 advance.

“His situation is going to get done at the very end," Dawkins wrote of Jackson's agent status, according to Yahoo. "UA is giving (Jones) 10k a month and she’s also getting paid by adidas now — so she’s plenty taken care of.

Hard to say what the total $ figure was on that one

Apple was getting money when Josh was in 8th grade!!!! So yeah, there is no way we can figure the total she got from the shoecos before Josh ended up in Lawrence.

@KUSTEVE

I've been hitting at this for a while too, recruit better. Not in terms of better players but recruit those who don't have pre-existing baggage. The 2018 class was a step in the RIGHT direction. Big Dave, Devon, Ochai, Q all pass the character test as far as we know coming in.

I think the staff is 2-2 so far in 2019. I think the remaining targets are also good character kids.

Of course some situations cannot be avoidable but if Self takes a stand againt the Selby's, Cliff's, Diallo's, Preston's of the world just maybe we avoid all these issues going forward. That's all we can hope for. Don't get to the point of desperation where you take Billy Preston. We could have had Tyler Davis who went to Texas A&M. Instead we got stuck in a snowball of bad choices that led to media headlines now

Trying to upvote this more than once.

FBI...here we go • Oct 29, 2018 02:50 PM

@KUSTEVE when 4-5 stars stay 2-3 yrs you can best believe an “agreement” was reached. Roy is smart enough to not be directly involved but those kids at UNC aren't staying for the "love of the game".

Here you go my friend

Nnaji visited UCLA this past weekend and will be at Baylor this weekend followed by a visit to Purdue. We’re still of the belief that Arizona is legitimately in this one and the coaches are pursuing Nnaji with the belief that the Wildcats could land him. Each school has its draw to Nnaji and Kansas is the main competition, but Arizona is not out of this one by any means.

Okay so generic fluff just like every other article on him lately. Looks like we just have to wait and see.

New 2019 Recruiting • Oct 29, 2018 02:05 PM

@jayballer73 JRE's mom definitely went to school here. She's a Robinson. They are one of the absolute biggest KU legacies around. You can read up on it if you are interested.

The Shoe Co • Oct 29, 2018 01:59 PM

Poor coaching decisions by Denver and Keenum is a bad QB. Plus Denver Oline is really bad.

Total "packages" reach seven figures for top talent, once you factor in transportation, housing, and a job for one or both parents. Rent in swanky new Durham subdivision isn't cheap my dudes.

Oh for sure. I was thinking just shoeco payments. I believe 250-500k for the absolute top guys. I would think the housing and job stuff is typically stuff for boosters of the school to take care of. I have no first hand knowledge though, of course.

The Shoe Co • Oct 29, 2018 12:51 AM

@JayHawkFanToo The going rate for top guys is 250k+ from what I understand.

Berry • Oct 29, 2018 12:42 AM

@jayballer73 I think the biggest issue with the Packers is Mike McCarthy. He is low key a bad coach imho.

@JayhawksandChill The word from teammates during summer pickup games was that Charlie Moore was deadly from 3. I wonder if we'll see Coach Self play Dotson at point with Grimes and Moore on the floor. Charlie would take on the role that Svi had of spot up 3 pt. shooter.

The issue is hiding Charlie defensively. Kid definitely has range.

It was interesting to think that our best 3 pt shooters could be all of our big men. Dotson and Grimes driving and dishing to the Lawsons and Mitch. I think Charlie needs to settle into a role, Dotson was clearly better in my opinion. Moore- focus on open 3's and the sometimes drive and dish.

I think Grimes will be good from deep, he just needs to let them fly. Vick will be fine to, just an off night.

Agree with you on the pg spot. Devon is clearly the guy.

RE Dave I think his biggest issue is that his adrenaline was at 11. Hopefully he is more settled down and flashes some of his game against Washburn.

I only heard the twilight of Falkenstein's career (90s-06) but I thought Bob was pretty much just as good.

Emporia State EXI • Oct 28, 2018 01:17 PM

Man, Doty can coach. Was looking into him a bit more. After his 4 year stint at Rock Valley (not great first year but then 3 straight 30+ win seasons, 2 titles and a title game loss) he moved on to Graceland U (in Iowa) where in his 2nd year they won the NAIA title, their first ever appearance in that tournament in the history of their school.

Hell of a hire by ESU. Not sure they will be able to keep him.

Scrimmages and Exhibitions • Oct 28, 2018 12:47 PM

@KUSTEVE Eh, 5 points. That said these scrimmages are weird. What stuck out to me though is Bol Bol is still as soft as ever. 7'0'' and 1 rebound in 24 minutes? Yikes.

Winning! • Oct 28, 2018 12:43 PM

Yep. Saw them beat an Oklahoma State team that pounded KU rather soundly. Saw them hang with Baylor (who drilled KU) too.

@DoubleDD I don't think you're wrong about the double standard regarding racial politics, or that the Democrats had a heavy hand to play in "creating" Trump. But Trump goes way beyond just seeking equality regarding race politics. He's a hate monger.

This.

It would be foolish to deny the facts. Hate crimes and domestic terrorist acts are UP during Trump's tenure.

When you spout things like building the wall, it's bound to happen.

DoubleDD said:

@BShark

Yet you think Trump playing into the White man vote is racist, but you have no problem with the Dem party playing into the Black, Gay, Woman, and latino vote. You don't see that is racist?

Gay and trans people deserve equal rights. They don't have them yet.

I literally just said not all white people are racist in the same post. Are you even reading what I am writing? Trump operated on racist platforms, period.

@mayjay I feel your pain brother.

THIS IS A GOOD PODCAST: https://crooked.com/podcast/where-the-personal-and-political-meet-in-conversation-with-karamo-brown-and-parker-molloy/ ↗

Am I upset that he tapped the racist, Nazi vote? Yes I would say that I am.

Obviously not all white people are racist Nazis. Trump absolutely operated on that platform though.

According to the ADL, anti-semitic hate crimes rose 57% in 2017. The largest single year increase on record.

@DoubleDD He is the leader of this country and his campaign ran on divisiveness and white supremacy. The country is now reaping what they sowed when he won the election. Domestic terrorism has been more prevalent than ever under Trump, in part because he's been encouraging it.

I'm not blaming him for everything, but he is the POTUS and ran on a dangerous and embarrassing platform.

Believe it or not I'm not a big fan of Obama either. At the end of the day he was just full of platitudes and really didn't do much of anything. Pushed a highly compromised health care bill through. The Democrats could have pushed things through in Obama's first two years. So what did they actually do? They bailed out the upper ownership of the banks, expanded the insurance industry, moderately expanded Medicaid, and passed an okay stimulus bill. And the military (Lockheed Martin, Boeing) got their usual big forever raises too. Yet not a single increase to minimum wage.

So, I wouldn't say I'm hardcore Democrat or Republican. I'm on the side of humanity, and common sense. This is a side that Trump strongly opposes.

@Crimsonorblue22 Exciting no doubt, but not particularly well played by either side.

@DoubleDD I think Trump it to blame, not either particular party. Though the two party system in itself creates divisiveness and is an issue. Too many people make everything us vs them and vote straight Dem or Rep tickets w/o considering issues and voting records...

Beaty • Oct 28, 2018 02:03 AM

Well, it's his own fault he couldn't get HS guys in. I did mention in another thread that I think the next coach, if a good hire, can get KU bowl eligible in year 2. Have to retain the good FR though which is going to be difficult.

Next year will be brutal though, regardless of the coach.

Eh, this feels like a bit of a stretch.

Trump has used stirring up hate and divisiveness as his platform, so I do think it is fair to say he played a role in some of the recent events. You can't shake up a soda can and then say oh it's not my fault when it sprays everywhere.
