@BShark This feels like Matt making up info so people stay off his back for the next two weeks waiting on the Romeo decision.

I would think that if I hadn't seen this rumor elsewhere before Matt.

2019 Recruiting • Apr 18, 2018 02:04 PM

So Matt can't say much but he did let me know that the already committed player is a player that KU hasn't been publicly mentioned/linked with before. Interesting.

Embiid • Apr 18, 2018 01:52 PM

He is without a doubt one of the best bigs in the league. I made a post in some thread I forget exactly where and stats show he is already a top 5 post player easily. Top three IMO.

Marcus with the savage beat down.

Draft Declarations Thread • Apr 18, 2018 01:10 PM

@Kcmatt7 43% win rate is rough.

Danny has some dudes coming in. I think they actually had to have some guys leave early to make room. Or they knew beforehand hence loading up.

Crawford, Brown, Hoard, Mucius and a warm body at C should be able to make the tournament. Hopefully for him they can do that.

ESPN final updated rankings

Grimes #8

Dotson # 22

McCormack #25

Agbaji- unknown to ESPN still

Romeo #5

As usual Rivals is better at their job than ESPN. No surprise. Dave a bit high here imo, Dotson a little low and having Agbaji not ranked seems like an oversight.

Not just KU recruits either. Jalen Smith is a good player but #10? Kevin Porter way too low.

Matt Mooney- high scoring South Dakota guard has Texas Tech in his top 5

DeSean Murray has interest from Baylor & Maryland. Could follow his fellow teammate who committed to Baylor this week after 1 year at Auburn

Joe Cremo- is visiting Texas this weekend. Visited Creighton last week

Beard is a busy boy.

Zhaire Smith stays in the draft. Smart decision. Likely a Top 20 pick

Huge loss for the Big-12 and Texas Tech.

Figured, but will be interesting to see how Beard does w/o Evans and Smith.

Also said their dad has enormous respect for Self and the KU coaching staff. It would definitely take Self being fired for them to consider going back to Memphis etc...

The radio guy came on local KC radio, segment was pretty funny. He said the Lawsons LOVE it at KU and such.

Nah, Moore is a combo guard at best. Being small doesn't make you a PG. In fact size doesn't effect position at all. Ben Simmons is a 6'10'' PG in the NBA.

How many 5'11" centers are in the NBA?

None but that doesn't mean 5'11'' players with a center only skill set don't exist. It's all about the skill set a player has. True center is a dying position.

3 top 100 HS players in the state of KS in the same year?!? Cool. Hope JRE bleeds crimson and blue. Really hope Harvey gets his stuff taken care of. Hall gonna ball at KU? The 6’11” guy from Wichita is gonna be a load for someone to handle a few years from now too.

Yeah not worried about JRE.

Hall isn't really a KS kid like JRE or Harvey. Born in CA and spent a lot of his childhood in Illinois too.

2019 Recruiting • Apr 17, 2018 02:53 PM

Sounds like he's been playing point forward for Sunrise per his coach.

Lol exactly.

BeddieKU23 said:

Hey he was on show talking about this. The father has made this a talking point for no reason. Don't know why these fathers keep getting a platform.

Must be the Lavarr Ball disease spreading

The host brought it up. I mean he didn't have to answer but he didn't bring it up. I'd be more worried if he had.

kjayhawks said:

Goodness, you know if the boys have his type of attitude, show'em the door today. Why wait? I'd say I have a better chance of winning the lotto than them going back, they'd have to sit another year. A lot of people aid these guys were trouble when we took them, run your mouth and get left high and dry we don't need guys like this.

To be fair the kids have been towing the line since the initial crap in practice.

Also what attitude? I actually don't think there is anything wrong with what he said. Kids are often at a program mostly for the coaching staff. Who on the roster right now is here because it's KU? Just Mitch right?

Romeo . a different look/ A different take • Apr 16, 2018 08:47 PM

There were a couple other players that almost fought Self as well, from what I've heard.

Not sure if he has toned it down since as all these examples were awhile ago.

There we go. Nice and full of caps.

By no means am I a fan of their dad but this whole thing was absurd. I was annoyed until I listened to the radio segment.

@Kcmatt7 If I delete it, someone else is just going to make a thread about it when they come across it. Renaming isn't a bad idea though.

HighEliteMajor said:

Lovely. The quote speaks for itself. If they want to transfer, if dad wants to run his mouth, then leave. Leave now.

The actual quote has the dad saying "if Self gets fired", which as we know isn't happening barring something truly insane. In which case KU basketball is completely set on fire anyway.

Sure he could have just refused to answer when the host brought it up, that would have been ideal, but oh well.

chriz said:

Ugh. Let's hope these Lawson kids are as good as advertised.

I think this was overblown tbh. I wouldn't even blame the Lawsons for considering transferring back if Self was fired. The host led him into it too.

Also one other important thing to note is that this is a regular radio appearance for their dad on this show. And it started with him talking about other basketball related stuff. So it's not like he ran to go do this show or brought up his sons himself. Actually listening to the segment shows it is completely different from the tweet. But I know not everyone here wants to bother so I wanted to post some more thoughts on it.

Romeo . a different look/ A different take • Apr 16, 2018 08:18 PM

Nice to see McCormack is actually 6'10''. I was wondering about his height.

@Kcmatt7 I've read that he is tough but you never really know until they actually have to deal with the KU coaching staff.

Shocking that a radio host would mislead for clicks...

Also mentioned that Self told Dedric/KJ that coaches weren't involved with anything and all will be fine etc...

Kcmatt7 said:

Eye rolls. Keelon just trying to soak up as much fame as he possibly can.

I should have listened to the thing before taking the click bait tweet at face value.

This is a quote: "If something goes down with Kansas as far as Coach Self being fired, I think the boys would entertain it. Right now they’re at Kansas. But if something comes down, and if Penny wants them, it'd be up to the boys."

Bruce On The Warpath • Apr 16, 2018 07:49 PM

@JayHawkFanToo I'm moreso commenting on jb's absurd suggestion. I should have just ignored it.

Draft Declarations Thread • Apr 16, 2018 07:40 PM

Wagner and Carter both sure took awhile. Not sure what the wait was for lol.

Easily the worst part of taking the Lawsons is their dad. I'd be good with no more Lawsons once Dedric and KJ are done at KU.

That said it was on a Memphis radio show and the kids would have to give up another year of playing ball. I'll believe it if it happens.

@BeddieKU23 Just think Brodz was a huge mismatch and Kenrich was legitimately one of the better defenders in the conference. Not easy guys to replace.

And I would think Zhaire would be leaning turning pro. Seems to be projected 1st rounder everywhere I look. Losing him and Evans would be devastating to their offense that was never really that great anyways.

TTU is adding a bunch of transfers and such. Added some JUCOs last year. I wonder if Beard will continue to take this kind of approach. Though obviously they probably thought they would be getting more than a year out of #194 ranked Smith. Culver was another great find for them too.

After the famous run to the Final Four in 2011, Smart has never made it our of the first weekend of the Tournament in 6 tries. The next two years '12 and '13 VCU won the first game and lost the second. Then next four times, 2 in the A10 and two in the Big 12 his teams lost in the round of 64.

This seems to be the make or break year for him.

It's almost like you need some luck to make a tournament run. WEIRD.

Bruce On The Warpath • Apr 16, 2018 04:43 PM

Yea TCU will be good. Fisher being healthy is huge. Waiting for all the dust to settle but I see them being top half.

I like being in a spot to be picky.

Yep, it's nice lol.

The FGCU kid is the only grad transfer I would want.

We'd all like for the 13th scholarship added to be a rotation level guy because Agbaji probably won't be ready (staff seems high on him though) and Cunliffe looks like a scrub. But it will still be a very deep and talented roster regardless.

2018-2019 Grad & Sitout Transfer Thread • Apr 16, 2018 04:36 PM

@BeddieKU23 Anthony Tarke intrigues me. Kid basically only played basketball his SR year of HS so he was well under the radar. Literally a 1 star recruit on ESPN. He crushed it at NJIT though. Bit of a volume shooter and needs to work on his trey but as a sit one to play two I feel he has a lot of value and could easily be a rotation level guy at a major program. The extra year off for further development will help.

However he doesn't solve anything for next year obviously so I'm not sure he is worth taking with the 19 class being so good and KU having good options.

Langford • Apr 16, 2018 04:20 PM

Adding another quality guard/wing would really help. Not sold on Cunliffe at all. Think we might see some Moore at the 2 with Grimes at the 3.

Bruce On The Warpath • Apr 16, 2018 04:16 PM

@Kcmatt7 Real talk: I think he'd be better off recruiting similarly to Huggins. Try to find underrated kids that are TOUGH and athletic. Now...does he have the same eye for talent and such that Huggy does? Maybe not.

Langford • Apr 16, 2018 04:13 PM

BeddieKU23 said:

@JayHawkFanToo

You pretty much nailed it. A 3 point shooter with athleticism would be ideal. I think we need to find someone that can play immediately that can give us some of the things we were used to getting from Vick, Jackson & Selden before that. There's an element of athleticism missing IMO that KU likes to have for lobs and drives to the hoop.

Langford is both. Herro is 1/2.

Agbaji and Sam are both in that mold but unproven. Staff seems to like Agbaji but no clue if he'll be ahead of the curve to play minutes as a freshman. Garrett & KJ haven't proven to be consistent shooters yet but they give you a lot of other good things.

It's unlikely we are going to find a really capable option if its not Romeo. I guess it could pop up so I won't say it can't. Will be interesting

I found the player you are looking for

@BShark Taking a large number or unranked kids and booting those who don’t work out seems to be Bruce’s best option to get talent. KU kind of does it too. Bill will take a flyer on a random dude if he has an open scholarship and send him packing the next year (or sooner Milt) if it’s not going to work out. Thankfully Bill lands more of his top 100 targets than Bruce, so the carousel has less traffic.

I think Bruce is a good fit in Manhattan and will enjoy watching Bill’s team whoop on the mildcats for years to come.

I wish Milton Doyle would have stuck it out at KU. Kid could play.

2019 Recruiting • Apr 16, 2018 03:57 PM

Ground breaking VIP stuff on 247 on Chandler Lawson. He really likes KU and Memphis, and they will likely be his final 2.

Bruce On The Warpath • Apr 16, 2018 02:16 PM

@Kcmatt7 It boggles the mind how Bruce hasn't figured that out. I would think KSU could be in the 10-20 ranking range pretty easily.

Bruce On The Warpath • Apr 16, 2018 02:00 PM

Kcmatt7 said:

Well I actually like to see another B12 team that is in a spot they can look to simply upgrade their roster instead of take guys out of need. KSU might give us more of a run for our money than most would like to admit.

Next year or in general going forward? KSU is def gonna be feisty next year.

I just think it's funny, KSU fans will take about Bruce doing things the right way and crap. Well there are always some cases of him booting kids, sometimes a bunch. Obviously Wainwright had to go but the rest of these kids? And odds are Bruce will add more of the same, only to give them the boot later too. The circle of life lol.

2019 Recruiting • Apr 16, 2018 01:54 PM

@BeddieKU23 Yeah I don't think that was ever in doubt. Knew Penny would get kids. Now can he coach them into a cohesive team is another story...

Not really seeing where KU has reached out to anyone.

Me either. I don't know what to think of that. Seems they really want to wait out this Romeo deal before figuring it out. And to be honest nothing that's been available has really been a fit or the type of player that can move the needle for this team.

I think the FGCU player would be a top 4 rotation guard for us.

That said usually if the staff doesn't feel great about a recruitment we will see things where KU is involved with other recruits or transfer targets. So at the very least I would say the staff thinks they have a good shot at Romeo.
