So Bill said a few things.
First Remy Martin is dealing with a left ankle sprain. Hopes he will be 100% in a week or so.
Kyle Cuffe had arthroscopic knee surgery. Out a few weeks.
KU will play Tulsa in Tulsa in a closed scrimmage as substitute for a 2nd exhibition game.
Boot Camp has finished
For those wondering Adem Bona did visit last weekend. Said he "had a great visit", "it was my first ever visit to a college and it was awesome".
Met the coaching staff, said the culture is like one-of-a-kind. In general he had a great visit.
At least they got him on campus. Where his recruitment goes from here, who knows
Has scheduled trips to Baylor this weekend, Kentucky Oct 15th & UCLA Oct 22nd.

In case anyone cares Duke got #2 Derrick Lively.
Nike is going to make sure Scheyer gets what he needs... Need to make sure that the transition goes as well as possible
Yep 3 5 stars in 22 & 1 in 23 already without coaching a game. Too funny
In case anyone cares Duke got #2 Derrick Lively.

@BeddieKU23 I think the crazier thing is what this says about Notre Dame...
If you're a Notre Dame fan you should be worried.
Notre Dame isn't great by any means but they are a solid team. They caught FSU's super bowl and survived on the road. College Football can be strange which makes it exciting at times. I bet this same ND team could beat FSU by 4+ touchdowns if they played each other again this week. We might win 1 game this year and that's a stretch at this point. I have never seen it so hopeless in 30 years of watching them. I guess this is what KU football fans deal with on the reg.
Think we are just going to have to live with Zuby. Hit the portal unless someone becomes available in the spring. With the opportunity waiting after this year in the post its shocking to see no top bigs coming here. But with the NIL etc the have's are feasting and KU is just not one of them right now
updated 247 rankings.
Rice #22 Comp (still 5 star) (25 on 247, 4 star)
Gradey #32 Comp, 35 on 247
Zuby #50 comp, 41 on 247.
Targets
Bona#10, Udeh #27, Walsh #38, Jackson #56, Griffen #71, Klintman #111.
Targets but pretty much impossible Smith #8, Traore #9, Mitchell #11, Miller #18, Phillips #20
And there's only 1 exhibition game this year again
I really like the softer schedule in non-con. You still have Michigan St, likely Alabama, Kentucky @ Colorado. I think some years they have scheduled too hard compared to competition. The schedule is the least of our worries. We always find a way to go into the tournament missing key pieces or being less then 100%. I do find the grouping of road games in league play to be an outcome of Covid.
The main concern with Walsh is he's not a reliable jump shooter. If he was he would be a 5 star. Perfect Self recruit
That one is a mess, they have threatened to fire him for years. Big time recruits committed as well in the upcoming class that may look elsewhere without the right hire.
Seems like Alabama is the leader for Rylan Griffen
Looks like Iwuchukwu could end up at USC after an official there. At least it wouldn't be Baylor

Okay, FSU probably won't win the ACC this year, but they will beat Miami and go to a bowl. How's that? More likely than not a 6 win way out back bowl, but hey it's still a bowl 😂
They will lose by 3 touchdowns to Miami, possibly more.

There were alot of upsets, no doubt. This was really not an upset but I'll say it anyway, Clemson is not going to the playoff. Infact, after watching the Notre Dame - FSU game, though the Seminoles lost, people had better start paying attention to them in the ACC.
I tell ya what my friend. Georgia looked REALLY good. I mean REALLY good. - -very quick , fast their linebacking core is SWEET. - - I think they had Clemson frustrated , looked to me as Georgia was in control of that game for the most part - -now didn't say all but I just thought Georgia was the better team
True. But Georgia did not scare me offensively. I still think that the four best teams are Alabama, Oklahoma, A&M and - wait for it... - Cincinnati... I think that FSU is going to win the ACC, and they aren't even rated right now.
Diehard FSU fan here, We are not winning the ACC
Good call. Also, condolences.
Yeah, Saturday was a program low. Worst loss in history
Bona visits this weekend I believe. Let's see how that one goes
Really like Bona.
For sure it was probably best case scenario. Just disappointing
I think 2 years from having that conversation (and that's assuming the way they played against ND was the stepping stone). Schedule is brutal, will be lucky to get 6 wins. I'm praying for a bowl game to keep a fantastic recruiting class together. I believe in Norvell and this staff they just need better players. Playing 2 QB's because frankly one can't throw and the other can't stay healthy (due to catastrophic injury years back). Talent deficiency at OL and LB. WR is a big concern, we just lack playmakers. They wore ND down in the 2nd half but imagine first game had something to do with that.
That ND game was the perfect storm to play well. Home game with big crowd with a ton of recruits there. Came out of camp pretty healthy. ND was breaking in new QB among other things. Was happy with the level of play but given how the past 5-6 years have gone its best to keep it 100 for now.
Clemson gave up 10 points and 3 on defense to a Top 10 team. They are still the top dog until anyone in the ACC steps up. UNC looked brutal against Virginia Tech and while they have a very good QB he lost almost every single skill position player that helped him last season. ACC is a mess if you ask me. NC St could be a darkhorse , Va Tech as well. Miami was humiliated by Bama.
Still wouldn't count my chickens with Rice.
They definitely want a big to go with Zuby. Adem Bona and Ernes Udeh seem like the top targets. Iwuchukwu as well but he's always seemed like a Baylor lean.
Jordan Walsh, SF hybrid forward type, Rylan Griffin SG also realistic targets. They have visits lined up
Think that's really it for realistic
4 star PG Richard Isaacs committed to Texas Tech.
Recruitment with KU fell off a cliff. His ranking also dipped a bunch. Weird

done deal for BYU, Cincinnati, UCF, Houston
SMH
Yeah he's at my buddy's school Brewster Academy this yr so hopefully I'll have some intel here. Needs to put on a lot of weight at his size. Film doesn't immediately say top 10 kind of player but not sure how deep 23 class is
Vice had a really good show about the NCAA that was on this morning. They could make it a series and have 11 seasons and not capture half of the messed up things they have done to kids over the years.
A string bean 6'9ish prospect. I'm sure my buddy will get to work with him this upcoming yr

If Keyonte George is this good of a shooter on top of his athleticism, he will be TOUGH at Baylor.
Surprised he's going to college tbh
Rylan Griffen will visit KU Oct 1. Apparently visiting with Mark Mitchell. Also will see Alabama and Georgia
Agree. I think KU can find a quality big on the transfer market next year. There just isn't a big they are going to land that is going to immediately fill the Big Dave role
The Big-12 has been flat out left at the alter. What a disgrace.

Yohan Traore going all the way up to 4th!! overall in the next Rivals update. Well that was a nice dream that he would end up at KU when Bill offered him as a 3*/NR.
I think he goes pro tbh. What you say?
That one is playing in a sandbox we cannot compete with. Interesting though that he wants to visit.
Anyone seen Doke's new shooting stroke from the FT line? The Jazz absolutely worked with him on fixing it, completely different now. He was making it look easy in Summer League at the line.
Fun watching Doke do exactly what he did in College against Pro's. Wonder if he'll have a role in someway with the Jazz this year. Such an unique force of nature in the paint
That's crazy! Good for him

The day after he decommitted and the first offer after that. Also he is at Prolific Prep now :writing_hand:
so is this someone worth wanting buddy ?
He's not bad at all, a lot of size for the guard/wing position. Not a huge fan of his jump shot but he seems to make them. Ranked #35 so obviously talent there. Need a big class either through guys like this or through the portal so this is a good offer
I hope it works out. I'm skeptical. Not surprised it was an internal hiring just based on how Self does things. Still with the changing recruiting landscape landing a shark would have been ideal.

If a Top 50 kid is getting over a million for 2 years to go pro its hard to imagine the NIL ever competing with that. Imagine the price for the cream of the crop kids. Dillon Mitchell, #28 was just offered 2 million for 2 years.
Kinda hard to see this league making money tbh.
Wonder the same but I guess we'll see what happens after 1 year. Either a short term boom or a long term problem for College B Ball
In time maybe NIL will be a good option. In the short run the OTE is definitely offering big bucks. Guess they have some deep pocket investors for now. If this jumps off then its tough to compete with. If its crumbles then we'll see.

1.2 million is Griggs deal for 2 years. You don't turn that down.
Brief one time Target 5 star PF Kijani Wright to USC. No surprise given their recent success with bigs to the league.
Thanks for sharing! I cannot imagine how difficult it is for both parents to be working full time with everything the past year. Seriously I give you all the props in the world for making it work ( and for everyone else who may be in a similar situation).
We struggled when he was young to have consistent daycare so my Fiance made the decision to get into Home Care Providing which meant we didn't need Daycare anymore and given what happened last year and is still going on it was a good decision to avoid that stress because before it was a daily struggle. However this line of work doesn't come without great sacrifice, we have given up our privacy and our home to someone else. We got a very difficult person that just drained the mental goodness out of us and could have easily ruined our relationship if we weren't so patient and laid back. You add in the lockdowns and not being able to give that person structure (just a like a young kid needs) & we felt literally trapped. We had to move on from that person & 5 months later we got someone else who's a lot less daily stress and much easier to deal with so we are thankful.
So my son has been home with Mom for basically his whole life and now we are ready to let him spread his wings. We debated just waiting until he was old enough for Kindergarten because we have sort of home schooled him the past year & he's excelled but we want him to enjoy being with other kids & the structure that will provide. He's a night owl as well so we are hoping school will kind of change his routine around going forward. He also sleeps in our room (in his own bed), definitely a comfort thing for him to be close to Mom. We have tried for months to get him back into his room but kids are not easily jedi mind tricked as I'm sure your well aware of.
Hopefully our fears are just normal anxiety. I think we struggle with we won't be controlling his environment for the first time especially with the Pandemic. I never would have thought a few years back that when he was getting ready for school that this would be what he'd be dealing with. Poor kids.
Looks like Bryce Griggs is going pro as well, high 4 star PG that KU was recruiting.
At some point Cleveland state is going down for Memphis cheating
You could say, Sharpe has been Sharpie'd to UK for a while now.
That's where KU and Bill/staff is going to have to figure out how to enhance these kids opportunities with the NIL. Can't just sell tradition, KU brand, KU reputation anymore to these 5 star types. Self is going to have to in my opinion step outside his character box and make KU the most attractive option.
