Pretty much. The gap will close as the season goes but right now its a gigantic cliff between them and everyone else
Zhaire Williams of Stanford looks really good. Might be the best freshman scorer
@FarmerJayhawk said in Non-KU Games Thread:
@BeddieKU23 and I don’t think a very good one. I don’t think they have enough perimeter scoring to be more than a fringe second weekend team.
They look a year away. Really missing a wing scorer to balance out everything they got going on
Yeah it was, very young team.
UNC ends the half up 7, they are too much for UNLV
UNC tied at the 6 minute mark

KU at #7 in the new AP Poll. Duke up 3 spots to #6 after winning a game (in which they were a 40-point favorite) by 10 points against one of the worst teams in college basketball. A joke.
Wins a win.. nobody looked to see Coppin St was ranked 300 something in kenpom. Surprised KU kept at 7, its not like we set the world on fire

Oh Lord it's Walton. - -He says that's the best he had seen a Davidson player ever play - -and the Commentator says - -it's his 2nd game of his College Career - - OMG lol
Walton clearly smoked himself to death through the entire Steph Curry Davidson years then

@BeddieKU23 weird we never heard of it, though!
Right, that was new to everyone hearing that about Marcus.
KU did report no issues with Covid as they left Fort Myers for Indianapolis.
Self did mention that has happened to Marcus in the past.
Dave was out 2nd half with precautionary knee injury.
Interesting to monitor going into Tuesday

Raiders hungover af after losing their superbowl.
They were awful against the Falcons
Surprised Kentucky lost today but I wouldn't put too much into that impacting Tuesday. Their frontcourt guys scored 23 pts, 25 reb, 3 blocks which terrifies me in the matchup on Tuesday. The law of averages says they are not going 0-10 from 3 again. We could try and pack the lane and force them to make outside shots, not sure on that strategy. KU's key to victory is to score points.
Interesting thing to monitor with Baylor. So far it appears neither 4 star freshman big they signed in this class are apart of the rotation. It's Thamba starting and the transfer Tchatchoua as his backup. Seems to be their main weakness as well
@approxinfinity said in EMPEROR OF BASKETBALL:
@Crimsonorblue22 Cartier should be a good piece but he wasn't that big a factor yesterday. Came off bench 24 minutes 1-8 shooting.
He looked like garbage for V-Tech. Ball sticks in his hand and above everything else his attitude is piss poor. Him and Weber definitely didn't see eye to eye
Thats crazy. A big who wants to shoot 3s but can't make them in games isnt going to be very appealing to big p5 schools. Imagine he ends up at a smaller P5 or lower level D1 school
Agreed with your entire post.
Dave has to bounce back Tuesday, no questions asked. Kentucky has several bigs that can give him a hard time. Self got extremely lucky Wilson could switch over to the 5 given St Joes limited height and inability to get to the rim. I'm not confident we can expect that every night from Jalen.
Self is going to have to find a way to limit shots at the rim from opposing teams. Gethro as raw as he is might be might deserve a chance at some point if the struggles continue.
Wow. He really struggled as a freshman. Not sure Texas is hurt by this move
Reminded me of Devonte with the confident jumper. They look similar athletically. Can see the appeal
So KU is in his top 4
True. Curry looks like a smaller Doke from size, power, bounce
The weight loss and work he put in to improve his body are great signs of a player dedicated to his craft. I'm so happy he didn't end up at Michigan.
Thanks sounds promising. Interested to see if the emergence of Harris becomes a thing or something the staff can still recruit the position with hey we got an open spot

Looking like Aidoo ends up at Marquette, who is likely out for Etienne.
Bummer but Curry has some serious muscle and bounce to him and probably sees the court earlier then Aidoo

We offer? Are we in it?
He has some quick burst athleticism to him that has been a pleasant surprise to see out of him. That didn't show on HS film either. So credit to Jalen and the Strength coach for making sizable gains in his physical ability.
Good point. He will need to step up against Kentucky because Sarr and Jackson are going to be a problem to guard. KU will not win that game if Dave plays as poorly as he did this week.
Honestly I don't see how KU can be expected to win any game against ranked quality opponents if Dave is an non factor in the post. I wish he'd worry about rebounding, defensive awareness and not turning the ball over then shooting jumpers and looking for his offense. I know Self thinks as we play more teams that play a traditional big it will be easier for him, too me that's coach speak for he knows damn well Dave is limited and hoping that specific matchups increase his level of play. Very concerned
The lack of an normal offseason may have impacted Dave the most for what he needed to work on defensively. The concerns about his defense have always been there and now its under the microscope. I know it was impossible to think he could reproduce the defense Doke provided last season but I'm sure we all thought it was possible the drop off wouldn't be this dramatic. The staff has work to do with him and film should point out what went wrong. Its interesting to see a guy who gives effort like he does still struggle rebounding and providing help defense

@BeddieKU23 It was actually kind of fun! But I was a little miffed because I thought I'd started the game thread, albeit a little early. Oh well, fun game.
I logged in to find @BShark thread and never left it. I don't think it was intentional by any means. If anything your single commentary was fun to read without interruption

Excellent point. If Harris can back up today's play against Kentucky Self will have no choice but to play him heavily going forward. That kind of defense and unselfish play is hard to find.
I always think back to Self saying he would have played on last years team if he was eligible. Sometimes that kind of talk can be hard to believe but after today you get the feeling he wasn't lying
really like his defense and his passing skill - -i know only one game but you can tellI think he gonna be solid for us
Definitely want to see him do it against teams like Kentucky. St Joes was tired and let's face it a less talented team. It was exciting to see him on the court making such an impact but it begs to be seen if he can do those same things against bigger and more talented players

Its a harsh reality and I hope he improves. He has to play better and if he doesn't it will be a shame to see. I've been hard enough on him so for now I'll be watching for positives from him instead of harping on all of his weaknesses

@BeddieKU23 Wilson.
Thanks he has been impressive so far. Improved athleticism and he has that effort in him that you don't see often from guys who missed a year, he's got the effort of an upperclassmen. I have always been high on him even as the debate about him coming here was contentious on what position he'd play or role he'd carve out. I think what was missed was that for his size he had a lot of high level skills that fit in today's game. Excited to see how he progresses

Braun with 30 is big time. Hopefully he can score like that against better competition.
Agbaji has been very consistent so far. Nice to see out of him.
The guys I don't think mesh with this team are Enaruna, Lightfoot, McCormack and TGF. We need at least one of them to figure it out defensively because they are all liabilities on that side of the court.
We need Dave to up his hoops IQ, that can be hard.
I'd regulate Dave to first front court player off the bench. He can't start against small teams and really against good teams until he actually proves his coach's words are not just words..
Start Garrett, Harris, Braun, Agbaji and Wilson. That 5 gives us the best defense and passing lineups
Bring in Bryce and Dave as main backups.
Sprinkle in Tristan and TGF as the game goes.
Regulate Mitch to emergency time.
Wouldn't mind seeing what Muscadin can do for rim protection, rim running as well. His limited seconds have shown some singular skills that this team needs.
@approxinfinity said in St Joes Game Thread:
@BeddieKU23 he had a nice move yesterday where he dribbled through two defenders and was able to maintain control and get a nice shot off. His x axis quickness doesn't seem connected to his Y axis hops.
Who had this play?
@approxinfinity said in St Joes Game Thread:
This was the most enjoyable game for me in a while. I'm going to appreciate this season, a game at a time, however much of a season we get.
Definitely the game this squad needed after zaga. Some growth especially seeing how dominant Harris is at the little things
I will add Jalen Wilson has a skill set that will keep him on the floor. Really bouncy around the rim but can't dunk. Weird combo to have. Shooting needs to improve and the bunnies. But he gives max effort out there. Defense is still a work in progress too
