Basically the Iowa St of the Big 12
I'm shocked it was even that close. Shame on the voters
Ranking them #5 has more to do with Luke Garza then anything
Baylor should have clearly been preseason #1.
However since we play Zags game 1 it becomes a feather in the cap for this team to knock them off

Pretty on-brand for Duke.
Coach K at his finest
Smh at the Duke/Sparty game in Durham
First game against Gonzaga is set for 12:30pm on Thanksgiving Day. Play St Josephs the next day as well in Fort Myers
Starting 5 looks solid with tons of experience. What do you expect from the freshman, guessing at least a few are going to have to be in the rotation
Agree. I think every team outside of Baylor was ranked higher then reality including KU. Just have to see the product on the court first before I believe any of it
We shall see.
Purple kitties at 113. Oklahoma St at 33 is drinking the Cunningham kool-aid
Outside of Garrett I believe Christian will be the most consistent player on the team. That's how much of an impression he made on me last season.
They offered so assume some interest.
Top 20 PF Collins ends up at UK, no surprise there after the flurry of CB picks that way.
Doke ends up one of my favorite bigs to ever play. Lots of up and downs to get to the season he had last yr but man was it worth it. I do think he can impact at the next level and hope a team invests in his future. 4 yr player who's only 20, you can't teach his size, length and ability around the rim
He should shoot over 40% this season even with more attempts. Has excellent form and confidence in his shot.. I'm expecting he's a full time starter and an invaluable part of the team. He was a real surprise last season and im very excited to see him this yr
I'm glad he's found a place he can contribute. He definitely had a poor season here for whatever reason.
Logan Landers commits to Purple Kitties. Poor kid
Michigan Grabs Top 10 PF Caleb Houstan. Magically Howard can recruit these types. Just Magic

I don't think Ol Sweat Boy will be able to squirm his way out of this one. - -Just to many level 1 allegations. - I think they get hit just as hard as we do
They should get hit harder but I don't believe that will be the case
He is a good coach but I'm glad he struggles H2H against Self. This season he has a team on paper better then KU's, we'll see if he can win being the target in the league
Wow Texas Tech just got Matt McClung's transfer waiver approved.
With his NBA experience I think that gave him the opportunity to excel right off the bat. College Kids are going to look up and buy into a guy with his reputation and experience working with professionals. Very smart hire for Self after Hudy left..

Preseason all Big East. I watched a bit of Depaul basketball last year and he didn't look all that different from when he played for us. A lot of wildish shots and generally an accident waiting to happen.
Did he start looking at the hoop before shooting at Depaul yet? Guy used to put up 1-2 shots a game at KU without even seeing a rim
Agree about Dave's body he looked much improved. I think the new Strength Coach has done very well so far with these guys.
Agree about Christian he should be the top shooter on the team unless Thompson hits the ground running there
The hits just keep coming with Silvio. Pattern of bad behavior follows him
@Kcmatt7 said in Self flips to x-axis ball in AFH!:
I though Garrett proved himself last year. No need to worry about him. Just get the ball up the court and play D.
If he improves his trey shot to mid 30's & FT shooting to 70 or above I'll take his stat line any day.
We definitely have length. The avg starting height for this team should be among the biggest in the country. Harris is the only player likely to play rotation minutes that's under 6'5. Teams will have issues matching that.
Big-12 has a lot of quality bigs this year. Guys will have to step up to the plate and figure it out against those guys.
Agree about guarding the 3 point line.
Cautiously optimistic about how the team will shoot from 3 consistently. Agbaji is the one returning player that could really improve in that area.
Dave must improve on his awareness and ability to guard away from the basket. He's going to be guarding guys on a consistent basis that can stretch the floor. That's an effort thing and hopefully its something he's worked on.

Meh, KU can win that game.
Zags are pretty much the same as KU coming in. Experience at PG, SF & C. They will likely start a 5 star guard & Soph in the post who was injured & missed half the season. They lose 17.5, 13.6, 10.7 & 10.1 ppg from that team that averaged 87 a game. 8 of their 11 guys will be Soph/Fr.
I'll take my chances predicting KU can win this one
The 5 star guard is Jalen Suggs who's going to be their PG so they're not experienced at the PG spot, but Suggs is an elite level talent though.
They have Joel Ayayi who is the combo guard I was referencing. Pretty sure he played some PG for Gonzaga last year at times the same as Garrett. Either way both teams are likely to start 5 star guards

Season opener too. Not ideal when replacing your two best players and incorporating several into new positions
huge news.
KU will play Gonzaga on Nov 25th in Fort Myers
Baylor should be the clear cut #1.
Not sure why Gonzaga is even Top 5 after their big man left. I can see them being a Top 10 team, maybe even Top 5 good but not sure I see it on paper right off the bat.
To add, I always wonder if the coaches go in thinking they have no shot due to AAU or shoe co

From the shirt he's wearing i can't imagine we are serious players there..
Maybe enough time has passed...
You can't win any of these recruitments if you don't try.
If I'm speaking about the elephant in the room (Nike) I'll believe it when I see it.
I expect we see the 5 guard look out of necessity. Self has too many mouths to feed on the perimeter and only 2 big's that have experience. That creates a situation where you have to be creative and try new things.
I think the most interesting part of running 5 guards is seeing what plays Self can run out of it. I would imagine it would be some new stuff we've never seen when you don't have a big your scheming for angles inside.
This year the Big-12 has some real quality bigs so KU is going to have its work cut out guarding some teams this season if they have to go 5 out.
From the shirt he's wearing i can't imagine we are serious players there..
Really good post btw. Self definitely wants "positionless basketball" when it comes to his defense. It's important to his defense that his big man have the ability to switch late in shot clock or guard the pick and roll.
The all guard lineup definitely has potential if he has the right guys in the right spots. Self could throw out Garrett, Braun, Thompson, Agbaji, Grant-Foster, Wilson & Enaruna in some fashion, all perimeter type players from 6'5 to 6'8. No other team in the country has 7 guys with that much size.
I know I'll laugh when they get off easier then others
Daron Holmes ends up at Dayton. Weird recruitment..
We definitely have the personnel to run 5 out. Wonder who'd be the 5 in those looks. Could be anyone
Self has been experimenting with 5 guard lineups.. Imagine that..
According to Sources Arizona will receive its NOA from the NCAA today..
KU has reached out to Atkinson
Still haven't seen anything official
Here's what I've seen
KU/UK matchup has not had a date announced
Border War is off this year.
The USC/KU game in Allen is off. That was supposed to be Dec-19th
Wooden Legacy I believe is going to be held in Orlando & will be KU's opening games On Nov 25-26th. The field has changed to include Boise State, Seton Hall and UCLA. KU will play Boise St and if they win play the winner of the other game
No Big-12 schedule yet..
Good stuff and right on,, Garrett needs to show improved shooting to stick at the next level. 5 years could do the trick
@mayjay said in The NCAA Belongs on Probation...:
@BeddieKU23 It is clear that UMass got away with a lower penalty than they deserved. Those land line phones installed in the athletes' off campus housing gave them a clear advantage over other schools. While other athletes at honest schools were stuck with broad band of up to 100 gigabytes per second, those evil UMass player no doubt had access to much more advantageous dial-up internet running at 300 or 2400 bits per second.
Slam 'em, NCAA! Show 'em not to commit accidental violations and self-report! That'll learn 'em!
Poof! I'm surprised the death penalty wasn't on the table
Just sad to see. Just when you think decisions like this cannot get any worse they always find a way. The NCAA is so broken
The NCAA found there were 13 unintentional and inadvertent violations in the issuance of financial aid above the cost of attendance. The “administrative errors” affected 12 student-athletes, 10 from basketball and two from tennis.
The 13 financial overages from 2014-17 totaled $9,000. UMass officials do not dispute the infractions happened, but that administrators, coaching staff and student-athletes were not aware of the violations.
Just a thought but if we expect this years team to be good imagine next year if everyone returned with the free year.
I don't expect Marcus would come back if he has a great season but who knows at this point. Even if he leaves the roster looks good if everyone stayed. I have no idea what to expect from this season but with so many guys eligible to return that are likely too next season really feels like the year that this group could be magical

Agree with a lot of this post in terms of distraction.
This is a hit to depth though unless Mitch and the freshman can hold their own. This team gets small if Dave is on the bench. There will be teams that can exploit that. I hope Dave is up for the Challenge because he's about to become as important to the frontcourt as Azubuike was at times last year.
Exactly. Silvio wasn't likely to get a ton of minutes but now Gethro might have to play some.
A 3rd big whether KU plays a 4-1 all the time still has value. In a non-normal season like we have this year with the threat of Covid added, having that extra depth can really be advantageous. This definitely cements the 4-1 offense if it wasn't already and places even more importance on Dave staying out of foul trouble and being healthy (Covid or Injury). It's a good thing KU has plenty of 6'8 types to throw out there.
This years team really feels like a passing of the guard, as far as normal roster construction we expect under Self and the scheme they are likely to run all year.
