2019 Transfer List • Mar 20, 2019 06:16 PM

@jayballer73

That's the guy. We offered but I don't think he ever made it to campus. His handler put an end to that..

He'd certainly fit a role here similar to what we expected from De Sousa

2019 Transfer List • Mar 20, 2019 05:43 PM

Shakur Juiston announced he's transferring. How cliche would it be to get him this time around

NCAA Selection Show • Mar 20, 2019 05:15 PM

@jayballer73

I don't think there's any added pressure on this KU team. A few years back when Oregon punched us in the teeth in KC it certainly looked like pressure got to them.

I wouldn't be surprised if tommorrow's 1st half is the biggest worry in terms of pressure. All 5 starters have never played in the tourney. Marcus is the only guy that played in all tournament games last year. Mitch was a factor in the first two games but only played 4 minutes the last 3.. Then you add in playing in Salt Lake City, fatigue could be an issue in higher altitude..I think the first 10 minutes or so are very important tommorrow

With their starting Center back they are better then the play-in game. Would have likely beat Murray St with him

@wissox

I've gone back and forth on that. If UNC/Kentucky/KU all make the regional we may not have a pro crowd as much as we think. There are advantages to being close to home. Less travel, familiarity with the venue etc. It certainly will give a lot of KU fans in the area a reason to go support. I can imagine fans would be pretty excited about going up against Roy again. I would consider that an unique situation that creates some buzz just thinking about it. For this team, any edge, especially physiological could be everything

NCAA Selection Show • Mar 20, 2019 03:11 PM

@wissox

I think the matchup itself with UNC is not promising.

However the one hope I have going is just how influential playing in Kansas City could be. You'd think it would be a pro KU crowd. Self is 3-0 in the tournament against Roy. You give Self a week to prepare and he usually finds a way to beat whatever coach he's up against.

Hot Rumor • Mar 20, 2019 03:07 PM

I know his presence on the recruiting trail hasn't been what it once was but I'm sure Andrew Slater knows where all the bodies are buried. He's been directly and indirectly calling out the business for years now.

When KU was recruiting Zion in earnest they were making moves to entice the family either on their own or through Adidas. Dotson played with him in a tourney in Vegas when Dot was a pretty strong lean to KU coming out of the summer. This was manufactured together.. There was some buzz KU could sign Zion at that time. It was well documented by Slater that Adidas was doing all they could to keep him and who knows maybe they would have succeeded without the FBI thing popping up. As soon as that stuff broke in the news the balloon popped on Keeping Zion in the Adidas Family.

2019 Transfer List • Mar 20, 2019 09:26 AM

List at 230 now. Updated orig post.

UNLV's Joel Ntambwe 6'9 is transferring. Freshman Forward averaged 11 and 5, made 44 3's, good for 38%. Would have to sit unless they are awarding coaches being fired now.

Another hot take. CBS thinks we are ripe for an upset! wahoo

TCU fired their assistant coach Corey Barker. He declined to interview with TCU at the advice of counsel over allegedly accepting $6,000 in bribes to steer players toward Christian Dawkins' agency.

I'll be extremely happy if we make it to Kansas City.

Hot Rumor • Mar 19, 2019 01:24 PM

@tundrahok

It's not like I'm taking any of those comments seriously. Every fan base is guilty of accusing others of something. I'm sure there are thousands of people that do believe Self is dirty whether they have actual evidence or not. Negative headlines create negative opinions.

Hot Rumor • Mar 19, 2019 01:21 PM

@wissox

A lot of fan bases thought he was dirty before the whole Adidas Trial. Recruitment's such as Mario Chalmers, Darrel Arthur, Cliff Alexander, Josh Jackson, Silvio De Sousa are among the most prominent that have a lot of fans from other programs believing Self is dirty. Dollar ($) Bill is among the most prominent slang used on him. The Adidas trial headlines were maligned in such a manner that it connected more dots for people. People will throw stones regardless.

I'm not going to say with 100% certainty Self and his program have done everything by the book over the years. I've held hope we have, I believe in Self's character and I believe he has a real set of values that would keep him from being directly involved. But we know now that Adidas was dirty. All of the shoe companies are dirty. There isn't a program that is recruiting at a high level that is doing things without bending or breaking laws. They are still happening now even with the spotlight on the sport. Of course its just my opinion.

2019 Transfer List • Mar 19, 2019 11:17 AM

One name likely to have a lot of interest already is Luwane Pipkins. Averaged 21 ppg two seasons ago. Numbers dipped to 16 ppg this season. Had 30 against Nevada this season. Just 5'11 though. Won't be for everyone

2019 Transfer List • Mar 19, 2019 11:12 AM

KU could be very active on the transfer market again depending on how things shake with the roster.

The Mid-Year transfer list hit 150.

The current total is over 525

Players KU has reached out to:

Rayjon Tucker- Little Rock transfer. Averaged 20ppg. Former FGCU player under Dooley. Explosive Athlete, has rounded out his game had 15+ 20 point games this season. Had 21 against Nevada, 29 against Memphis, 16 against Georgetown. Can create his own and shoot the 3 at a high level Career 41% shooter. Should be priority #1. Would start at KU.

Daniel Utomi- Akron transfer. Made 97 3's as a Jr. Grad transfer. Lead the team in scoring the past two seasons. Big wing 6'6 215 that can shoot over the top of defenders and rebounds well.

David Jenkins- South Dakota St Soph. Averaged 19ppg and 45% 3pt shooting. Likely will have to sit a year. Could appeal due to coaching change. With some recent football transfers getting immediate eligibility there is precedent for him here.

Hot Rumor • Mar 19, 2019 10:36 AM

@HighEliteMajor

Yikes the comment section seems to be a common theme. They believe Self is a cheat. Not something you ever shake once people believe that.

NCAA Selection Show • Mar 19, 2019 09:40 AM

@jayballer73

I hope the boys are watching the tv's as they doubt them. I assumed this was what the media would run with.

When Duke/Kentucky have off years they vomit themselves to death to make them appear as "darkhorses who can make a deep run". Nobody knows what this team will do. If there is a year where KU is vulnerable we know its this year. We didn't need the media to figure that out. Starting 4 freshman, very little tournament experience on the roster. We have plenty of unknowns. But I agree the narrative seems all to easy to run with. Kick KU while they are down.

NCAA Selection Show • Mar 19, 2019 01:25 AM

@jayballer73

I have no rebuttal for how we defend the 3 it's a fundamental flaw in our approach that has reared its ugly head for years now.

I'm just over thinking of ways KU is going to get beat. It's a two way street here and I'll take my chances that Self will have this team ready to go against a team with zero tourney success and potentially a 2nd round matchup with 2 other teams who have done Jack squat in the tournament in many years. We are a fatally flawed team as it stands but I'm not giving up. The alternative is a long offseason, I'm not ready for it. I want to continue to believe until the minute there isnt any hope left. Everything can change Thursday. Imagine how motivated they might be to get to Kansas City. Everyone is doubting us. The blue blood school finally has a chip to play with. We will see how they react to the moment

Hot Rumor • Mar 18, 2019 07:14 PM

The rumor is hot among some KU donors, particularly after a gambling expert — the one Matthew McConaughey played in a movie! — reported it. Which was weird, but it happened, so we thought Self should be able to address it.

“The Bulls thing is as far-fetched ...” he told the Star on Monday. “I don’t know where that came from. I’ve never talked to anybody from the Bulls about any employment opportunities. They have a coach and I’m not a candidate for that position and will not be.”

The next question, then: Are you 100 percent sure you’ll be at Kansas next season?

“I don’t think you can ever say that, because if they decide to go a different direction I guess I won’t be,” Self said. “So I can’t say 100 percent. But here’s what I can say. I’m certainly not at all motivated to be anywhere else than right here, especially during these times.”

By “these times,” he means the NCAA’s pending investigation related to a federal probe into corruption in college basketball recruiting.

“I wouldn’t run from that at all,” he said. “Not at all. And I look forward to visiting (with the NCAA) and certainly the conclusion (of the investigation), and seeing it through. You can quote that.”

This has been a rough season at KU. The 14-year conference championship streak ended, Udoka Azubuike suffered a season-ending injury, Silvio De Sousa was suspended by the NCAA, and Lagerald Vick left the team in February to address personal matters.

But when Self answered the phone on Monday, he seemed eager to not just shoot down the Bulls rumor but to quiet any other potential talk of an NBA job or the NCAA investigation driving him out.

“My motivation is as strong as ever to be the Kansas coach, to further this program, and to see the situation with the NCAA through,” Self said. “Totally through. Never say never, because you don’t know how both parties may feel, but that is my stance and I look forward to being here for a long time.

“I want to add something else, too. I said years ago that I didn’t know if I wanted to coach forever. But this past year has motivated me to remain in this business for a long time. I want it on record that I want to coach for a long time.”

@BeddieKU23 agree on all of that. I think Dotson and Dedric will have to play 36 plus minutes a game. Might have to ask Dotson to go 40 a game. He can rest this summer. There is no reason to play Charlie and KJ unless severe foul trouble happens. Just go with Mitch and Garrett off the bench and let it fly.

We will need Q to play like he did in the Big 12 and Ochai or Marcus to at least produce something on offense. I’m not overly optimistic about this team winning two games this weekend, but it’s March and you never know.

I agree we need to make it happen with just 7 unless guys foul out or you can steal a minute before a tv timeout. It's a 1 game season now. No reason to save legs.

ESPN ran the hype train with Trae Young last year but this years darling is on a much deeper level. Zion is easier to like I think as well and his dunks are exciting so I think fans of CBB, casual fans have an easier time staying in awe over his plays.

We couldn't even hide from the Zion train during our own games this past week. Zion updates, Zion features, Zion promo's, Zion scoring updates, color announcers talking about Zion during our game. Seems like an all out company initiative where their paychecks depend on it

New 2019 Recruiting • Mar 18, 2019 01:13 PM

I guess Nike is spreading some money around to Georgia. 3rd Top 100 Small Forward signing with Christian Brown. They have Anthony Edwards as well at SG..

Gotta love 4 Top 100 kids signing to a 11-21 squad. I'm sure its all on the up and up

NCAA Selection Show • Mar 18, 2019 12:20 PM

Northeastern has the 145th ranked defense. Ranked 59th out of 68 teams in the tourney.

How we played Saturday night is not a reflection of how I think we'll play against a poor defensive squad that lacks athlete's and size. They do have 1 athletic post man but that's it. Those layups will fall against a 3 happy team without rim protection (only 71 blocks as a team) over the year.

If we get the chance to play Auburn (32nd ranked D) or New Mexico St (48th ranked D) those are not bad matchups for KU's offense. Auburn has a team full of athletes that gun a ton a 3's and NM St took us to the ropes in the Sprint Center earlier this year so we'd have film to use on them. Auburn played extremely well in their last 5 games- 4 in the SEC tourney, however were extremely average for most of the year losing most of the big games they had. I don't see how they would have the advantage against us unless they just made everything from 3. I think KU got the best matchup of the other 6 seeds/potential 2nd round matchups for #4 seeds. I wouldn't want to play Belmont/Maryland, Buffalo or Villanova in the other regions.

I'm optimistic we can get to Kansas City. I think we got a good draw in the toughest region. Making the Big-12 final was important for this team, experience in the tourney setting. I hope our experience of playing good teams every week comes through here. Self will have to play it smart. I hope he cuts the rotation to 7 and uses Charlie/KJ in emergency. Dotson has to stay out of foul trouble. Dedric has to make shots and at least try on defense. We can only hope the best versions of Ochai & Grimes show up. Grimes effort has improved dramatically. We can only hope Marcus has one of his better shooting games and finishes his drives. Mitch gives us rim protection and toughness on D. Dave continues his momentum despite the limited minutes on Saturday. His ability to contribute on both ends is the x factor for KU. It's time for these guys to show us what they are made of!

They were mediocre during the regular season. Compare them to seton hall of last yr who did Similar. Ku can win or lose, nothing should surprise us

they spread the floor like Iowa State - we have seen how that has worked for us -- They will iliminate David being on the floor by spreading out - -that puts Dedric out on the floor we see how he responds trying to guard in open space - NOT a good match up

Meh, I'll worry about the matchup if we even get that far. We can ill afford this season to take anyone lightly, even a mediocre Northeastern team.

Most teams are bad matchups for KU at this point. We lack an identity and we have so much unpredictability from game to game. I'm not going to overreact over the SEC tournament. It was an impressive run by Auburn and they played to their ceiling. When they make perimeter shots they are deadly. They will be a tough matchup if it happens.
