@BShark

Agree with all of it. Was just updating those who dont follow it as closely. Not expecting to land anyone at the moment

New 2019 Recruiting • Jan 04, 2019 09:44 PM

Recruiting has been slow but looks like the staff is recruiting Matthew Hurt, Achiuwa, Baugh and Cassius Stanley.

New 2019 Recruiting • Jan 04, 2019 09:42 PM

Baugh is known as a lockdown perimeter defender and high level passer. Looks like he is scoring the ball this season too. Hometown Memphis is certainly big competition here but with Ku having so many Memphis players it cant hurt

@Crimsonorblue22

On his 8th season there

Just my observation - -thoughts. • Jan 04, 2019 09:29 PM

The shooting numbers for most of this team are atrocious and not normal to Self teams. If guys swing back to normal %'s play will improve. Certain guys like Dedric and Vick are dependent on seeing the ball go through the hoop. Grimes looks that way as well. I cant imagine guys stay shooting 30% from the field or 20% from 3. The growth in this team will blossom as soon as they start making shots consistently

Poor Silvio • Jan 04, 2019 09:23 PM

@HighEliteMajor

I hope he does stick around and can play next year. However two recent cases involving Brian Bowen and Hernandez of Miami show the NCAA is not budging on eligibility even after missing a season. Bowen pursued professional avenues after being told he'd miss multiple seasons. Hernandez will miss at least this season and I cant imagine he's coming back next year as well. I think if we continue to see this drag on, Silvio will have pressure to look for something else after the season and who can blame him. He could certainly use a full season to impress and improve his game and stock but he may not be in the position to gamble like that. Maybe he likes college and wants his education. I agree the lack of flow of info is concerning to ever seeing him suit up this season

Poor Silvio • Jan 04, 2019 09:18 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10

So you know for a fact he got the money, the 60k? Where you finding that

New 2019 Recruiting • Jan 04, 2019 09:13 PM

KU was in Memphis to see unsigned 6'4 guard Damion Baugh. Same aau squad as Vick. Looks good and athletic. Hes ranked #141 on 247

Certainly seems to be an option in case Dotson leaves. Why else recruit another combo point guard.. ut oh

Poor Silvio • Jan 04, 2019 07:04 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10

Gassnola only agreed to pay SDS's guardian 20k for the UA 60k mess they got themselves into. Gassnola also testified he never gave his guardian the cash.

The 60k is seperate from the 20. As far as we know neither the 60k or 20k have been verified to have happened. Gassnola himself said he never did give him the 20. The cloud over all these alleged events is probably delaying any decision but who knows

I just read it. Oh man. I didn't catch the game so I figured you did. Worse you attended it. Happ has always struggled from the line so I'm not surprised he was fouled in similar manner to Doke.

What do you mean by approved. I've yet to see any news clearing this issue up. Did he actually sign it or they couldn't conclude whether he signed it or not?

Just my observation - -thoughts. • Jan 04, 2019 02:05 PM

@jayballer73

The next few weeks should tell us exactly where this team is going. It's winter break so they will be having a ton of practice time and this is where Self expects to see this team take the next step forward.

I agree they have been hard to watch at times. We still lack chemistry and Self is still juggling lineup combinations and schemes which isn't helping things. KU looked bad at times playing the two bigs, we played well for a stretch with small ball but I don't think that's the long term answer either. KU hasn't figured out its identity yet for some reason.

I'm encouraged by Dotson and Grimes scoring 61 points in the past two games combined. Back-court play is vital for this team going forward. The more we can rely on the two freshman and Vick the better.

I think the thing that holds this team back the most currently is shooting. We lack consistent perimeter shooting. Guys need to make open shots. When KU shoots 4-21 from 3 the result is going to look ugly. Half of those misses were wide open. Making 2-3 more changes that OU game completely.

I think its too early to predict what March will bring. Especially since Doke was out 4 games, KU is now re-adjusting to him being back in the lineup. That has already had a huge impact on Dedric Lawson and his role as well as Marcus Garrett who looks unplayable on offense with the two bigs. Self and company certainly have to figure out rotations and who can play with who. KU needs to get to the point where all 5 guys on the floor are being guarded which isn't the case right now. If by the end of January/beginning of February comes around and this team still looks mostly the same then its time to start wondering where this teams ceiling truly is. For now, way to early imo

@wissox

What happened to Wisconsin last night? 14 points at half? Did they miss shoot around??

Poor Silvio • Jan 04, 2019 01:45 PM

@HighEliteMajor

I would agree that the FBI probably has an impact on this.

IF this was just about the $2500 I would like to think a ruling would have been made.

But what if this about the shadow of doubt surrounding the 60k Maryland Booster and the 20k payback to the guardian or the alleged pro contract in Spain. That would give the NCAA plenty of reason to pump the breaks.

What if the NCAA is waiting until the spring and the other trials to try and figure out if KU assisted in this class payment to get him enrolled early?

Poor Silvio • Jan 04, 2019 01:24 PM

jayhawkcsg said:

Well, this is all fun to discuss, but it seems clear to me that Silvio is NOT playing because neither him nor his camp (handler) are speaking to the NCAA.
If they were or have, the NCAA would have come out and clearly stated that Silvio accepted cash and would be suspended forever, or for a certain amount of games.
I know crap, and i'm pissed like the rest of you, so we'll see. Fingers crossed we'll see him this year.

The NCAA can play out this eligibility issue as long as they want. If both of them did cooperate already it doesn't mean the NCAA will make a ruling. Enough time has passed now that either they are still not ready to give an answer or KU has received an answer and they are appealing. The lack of information out there leads me to believe that everything is still being kept private until a final ruling.

Miami's player that was also being held out just had his appeal denied yesterday. Different circumstances to Silvio but KU should be prepared for a similar fate.

Poor Silvio • Jan 03, 2019 11:31 PM

@HighEliteMajor

Let's say for a second SDS does know of the payment. A payment that helped him fulfill his high school requirements so that he could enroll in college and play basketball asap. Does that constitute a 13 game suspension?

I believe it's more then the payment or the idea of trying to figure did he or did he not know. His guardian, as we have discussed before could have likely cleared this all up but he could also be a dirtbag that doesnt want his other dirty laundry coming to light. Whatever the case SDS sits and maybe nobody even Self knows why at this point.

Other Games Tonight • Jan 03, 2019 11:20 PM

@dylans

He's definitely already gone. He never would have went to college if there was a better deal. He got everything he needed for 10 or so games to market himself as long as he's healthy by the combine and workouts. Probably a top 10 pick as it stands now on his inside out ability at that size. Wasnt in school long enough for film to pick him apart. Protect the goods at all cost. Smart move

Where would we be without Devon • Jan 03, 2019 06:55 PM

@dylans

Something like that can be quick if used and enforced right. Say the same amount of time it takes them to look at toes on line for 3 point vs 2 point shot. It's already a stoppage of play calling the foul in Dotson's case, no reason they can't take a quick look to see if someone's foot(s) still in restricted area. That was a giant no-no from the game last night.

Good to Svi getting some minutes.

Where would we be without Devon • Jan 03, 2019 03:41 PM

@dylans

Did the circle really make it easier to call it after they missed that? Should be reviewable regardless of the time left on the clock. Definitely a missed call.

A player on Texas Tech last night got clobbered in the face after making a 3, the foul was called but no review of the blow to the face. The defender literally clobbered him in the face with zero intent of getting the ball

What a shocker. I doubt we go after him if Ryan is right on the phog

Absolutely would take him. No question about it. Stupid decision to go play for Ford at SLU in the first place.

Good rebounder. Decent scorer. Decent passer. A modern day big man who can guard all 5 positions. What's not to like?

He chose his path. Certainly sounds like has some issues. That recruitment certainly seemed odd, Ryan on the phog says he's got a handler. Those never end up well

@BeddieKU23 He had a couple lazy passes that resulted in OU runouts.

Sorry I missed your comment about his passes. I counted 3 of them last night that were bonehead plays. Vick is who he is. I remember after one bad pass he canned a 3 on the next possession. He could definitely be less careless with the ball

Where would we be without Devon • Jan 03, 2019 02:50 PM

@truehawk93

Ref's this year have been downright awful. They missed calls on both sides last night.

Dave got a foul last night for being big and going for a rebound.

The Charge call is the worst in sports. I love when Mitch gets them as he's almost always in position to get them but the one's against us there have been very few where it was the correct call. As you stated Dotson was given a foul for making a basketball play on a guy that slid underneath him. Horrible call to make, play on, or reward the offensive player.

The Next Few Weeks- Shooting • Jan 03, 2019 02:47 PM

@KUSTEVE

His issue is Shot Selection. We know he can make the tough ones which is a good trait to have. He's still Vick.

Where would we be without Devon • Jan 03, 2019 02:21 PM

@truehawk93

Good points. Devon makes this team go though. PG play is the most important position and for a freshman to be playing this well for a demanding coach says a lot. I don't think the other pieces on this team would look as good without Devon giving us the steady hand at PG.

@BigBad

Shooting 42% on limited takes. I like the fact he only takes them when he's open, not forcing the issue. He's more consistent they anyone not named Vick

The Next Few Weeks- Shooting • Jan 03, 2019 02:14 PM

With Winter Break here KU has the chance to take the next step in team development. I hope these kids live in the gym putting up shots the next few weeks. What other excuse is there for these shooting numbers so far. This looks like the biggest issue, scoring, something we are not accustomed to. Guys are missing too many open looks. What happens when those same shots don't go down on the road? We will find out.

For everyone's viewing pleasure.

Dedric Lawson 4-23 from 3, 17%, most of them wide open looks. He's better then this.

Azubuike 34% FT shooter, let's face it he got worse and will never be good at the line.

Grimes, 41% FG's, 63% FT,'s 29% from 3. He's improving but still rushes wide open looks and has some really bad misses. Kid needs to live in the gym and work on that form. He can make this team even more dangerous making shots.

Marcus Garrett, 31% FG's, 19% from 3. What else is there to say he can't shoot from anywhere. Worst shooter Self has ever had as a guard. Does a lot of other good things at least.

Charlie Moore, 31% FG, 30% from 3. Not even sure what he's doing half the time. Did he even look at the hoop on a few of those shots last night.

I like this thread. He's been such a steady hand at PG that we forget he's a freshman. Blur with the ball. Tough finisher and can make his FT's. His on-ball defense is so good for a freshman
