We're in the double bonus now - need to make some damned FTs....

3-15 from 3 - 20%. Only guy I want shooting 3s at this point is Furphy, and only if wide open...
Well, never mind - for now.... ;)
Why?????
3-15 from 3 - 20%. Only guy I want shooting 3s at this point is Furphy, and only if wide open...
6 3pt attempts. No justification for that...
Well, we're shooting the same % from the floor and FT line...
22 minutes in before 1st FTA... And then miss both...
KJ scoreless and 1 RB. Just can't have that from a 4 who plays 35 MPG...
Extremely fortunate to just be down 5. But, unfortunately, I have little confidence that they can turn it up a couple of notches in the 2d half...

Have we shot a free throw tody ?
negatory
But OU has 8 FTAs. Good thing our FT defense is actually pretty good today - they've made only 3...
This team is just slowwwww... Get beat down court, off the dribble, to loose balls, and don't close out quickly on 3PAs...
Getting beat in every phase of the game....
Barely got to 50 last game - 40 may be the high water mark in this one...
Their guards/wings are getting into the paint WAY to easily...
Tech will definitely be up for this game, in no small part because they would move ahead of the Hawks in the conference standings and would be pretty well positioned to challenge for the title. They have probably the easiest remaining schedule of any of the top half teams. Includes road games against WVU, OSU, and UCF.
This is one of our lowest assist rate games. 11 on 23 made shots. Baylor actually 12 assists on 19 made shots...
They've doubled up on us on RBs - 36-18. 10-2 on ORBs...
Wow - bad last minute...
We have a 19-7 TO advantage. Would think we would be up 20+ with that differential. Problem is they are getting so many second and third chances and getting to the FT a lot more...
We need someone to rebound the ball. Would be up by 20...
Really poor effort on the TO and then getting back by Jackson...
We aren't very good at drawing fouls and getting to the line. Furphy is 6-6. Rest of team has 1 FTA - Hunter, who missed. Baylor has 2 guys with 12 FTAs...
Really need Timberlake and Jackson to give us something, anything...
2-11 from 3, Juan missed two layups, and we were getting killed on the boards the latter part of the half, but still up 6...
Both Furphy and Timberlake need to put in on the floor and drive when they are being played tight on the arc...

@Texas-Hawk-10 I sure as hell won’t rule it out.
For serious, we were so, so, so bad tonight and we won’t replicate that again. And those other teams will lose some weird ones too. It’s just too early. My honest opinion is the Big 12 (and really all of college hoops) is pretty bad and making any kind of concrete predictions is foolhardy.
We're more than halfway through Big 12 play, it's not early anymore. KU was bad again tonight, and you say KU won't replicate that, but they've replicated that 5 times now and only won one of those games and that was the Indiana game. This team has played like shit on the road this year and that's happened in 5 of their 6 road games. That's not an exception at this point, that's what this team is and the OSU game in Stillwater is the exception.
Seems to be a spot on assessment. What has traditionally characterized KU teams, esp. during the HCBS era, is winning B12 road games. Not this year. And, losing to bottom half of conference teams.
Perhaps things could change, but as @Texas-Hawk-10 notes, but the evidence indicates we are who we are at this point. There is a real prospect that we could go from preseason #1 to most losses in a season during Self's tenure. No risk of not making the tournament, but unless there is some remarkable turnaround, we won't be close to a #1 seed. More likely a 3-4.
We've shown we can beat anyone, esp. this year as there don't seem to be any dominant teams. But, we've also shown we can be beaten by mediocre teams - and not just on a night when the opponent does something ridiculous. Very thin margin.
Could easily lose a 1st round game to a #13 or 14 seed, but also go on a 3-4 game run...
K St really not very good, but we're not either - at least in this game so far. They are out hustling us and beating us on the boards...
Strange line-ups...
This is not our strongest lineup... ;)
This is not high level D1 Bball....

If this game ends early can we start early for a change?
Nope - 9:07 (EST) tip...

If someone showed you a halftime score of 29-17 and made you guess at least one of the teams playing guessing a majority of fans would pick Virginia.
Reasonable assumption. So, UVA has 29 pts at half and I know a lot of people will diss that. But, they held a team that averages 81 ppg to 17 in the 1st half and 6 of those came on 2 late 3s. UVA is NOT the most athletic team - far from it - but they are just so fundamentally sound on D. Don't switch everything, but slide through picks to stay with their man. Know how to hedge and quickly drop back. Box out. If you like good defense - I do - worth taking notes...

After such an enthralling victory Saturday a letdown is an unfortunate possibility. Given we're 1-3 on the road in league play I don't expect it to be easy. This should be a victory, but I certainly thought the same when we played Central Florida Senior Citizen Retirement Home and West Virginia Hillbilly St. They just got thumped at home against Oklahoma St. (did I read that right?) But have some nice home wins like against Baylor especially. Crowd will be jacked as usual, dreaming of storming the court, trying to text their mommas on their flip phones, driving home in their Four Old Rusty Doors cars etc. I don't care if we win by 1 or 50, as long as we win.
This game is critical if we want to win the conference championship. This is arguably the most winnable of the remaining road games. We're favored. With the remaining road games, it's hard to see even one more win. We need this, one more road win (OU, TTU?), and hopefully hold serve at AFH, which is no sure thing. That gets us to 12-6. Can we get one more road win? I think 13-5 wins this year. Regardless, we simply can't afford to lose another road game to a bottom half conference foe...

Just incredible that we are near 70% shooting to their 35% yet only up 14...
Plus we have a 37 - 22 advantage on the boards...
Just incredible that we are near 70% shooting to their 35% yet only up 14...
16 TOs...
It was a 20 point game less than 3 minutes ago...
Assume its the starters rest of the way...
We have 14 effing TOs - Cougars have 3...
1st points from bench - but then another TO...
TOs keeping them within semi-shouting distance...
@BeddieKU23 said in KU vs Houston Game Chat:
15pt lead at half hell yeah
Could have easily been 20 - 9 TOs...
7 TOs...
Very loose with the ball the last several possessions...
3 straight TOs...
That was a walk...
Starters have all scored...
Correlation, not necessarily causation - his shooting % improves with more playing time. With more minutes, perhaps he is able to get more into the flow, get better shot looks, and not force things? Note fewer shot attempts per minute the last two years at Towson...
A Furph bucket away from all 5 starters in double figures...

KJ steps up. 4 to 8 foot jumper beast and dunk machine
Wish he would add RB beast to the mix. Had 2 games where he looked like he got it, but not more recently. Just 1 RB tonight so far...
