Remarkable IL-UConn game...Huskies 3 guards are 2-17 and team is 1-13 from 3, but they are up 16. They just have so many different weapons and ways to beat you...
25-0 in the second half with 13 minutes to go...

Hard to believe this is only Tennessee's second ever Elite 8 appear with as much success as that program has had in its history.
Equally hard to believe that the B12 will be missing in action when the Elite 8 games tip off. Stunning result for the top-rated conference (issue with the ratings?). Solid 5-3 in first round games, but only 2 made it to the Sweet 16 and none past that. Every other major conference has performed better (yes, the SEC was bad in the first round, but has 2 in the E8).
Zags shooting 63%. Our defense is just offensive...
Need to make some major adjustments on defensive scheme in the 2nd half - Zags chewing us up. 7-11 from 3 has kept us in it. Not likely to sustain that, so have to get at least a few stops...
Man, they've had 4-5 wide open underneath...
Frustration all year is how soft KJ is when going up for a contest shot near the rim. He should draw many more fouls than he does but he leans away from contact...
This is quite the line-up...
Who was Juan passing that to???
It's not the missed shots, its that our defense is putrid. No intensity - Zags getting to spots easily...

who was the gray haired woman grizzly fan for Oakland they kept showing?
Trey Townsend's mother...
80% FT shooter is 3-8 until this last one. 1 of last 3...

I think we need more than a reasonably healthy Hunter to beat Samford. We might even be better without Hunter since he can't guard the trey line. That is... if they come out with ice in their veins. If they do, we need players like Elmarko, Nick, and Furph to come ready to play defense and guard the trey line. No more floating around in "no man's land" pretending to play help defense. Juan needs to disrupt and get some steals for easy runouts. Kevin? I expect he will play regardless of how he feels because he needs to closeout his college days on a positive note. KJ? Here is another game built perfect for him to dominate, but will he?
Two things we have to focus on to win... First, win the possession battle. We should be able to win the boards if Hunter plays or not. Then its about turnovers. We need to protect the ball while swiping balls from this team known to be turnover-prone. Then turn those turnovers into runouts. Second, guard the trey line... all the way through the 30-second clock. These guys aren't used to playing at our level. Guard hard and watch their trey line % drop!
If we come with energy and effort, we should smash Samford.
That is a couple of big IFs given the past month. But, Purdue did beat Samford by 50 in the first game of the season, so if we play anything close to our capability, this really should be a close game. Another big IF...
Likely what most impacts where KU ends up is whether the Cyclones climb to a #1 seed. If so, they would be the #1 in the West region. That would almost certainly mean KU would be in the East region. If staying on the 4 line, that would mean UConn in the Sweet 16 - assuming we can survive the first weekend. If UNC gets the fourth #1, KU could end up in the West.

Cincinnati, new record for the tourney, 16 3's.
It would take us 5 or 6 games to get that many.... ;)
We might not score the rest of the game... ;)

Is Hunter actually hurt? Just watching in spurts here
You could see that he has a separated shoulder...
Guards that can easily get into the paint and draw contact - if only....
Cougars supposedly have as short bench as we do, but have outscored ours 21-2...
Really stunning that so many of our guys are clueless on D - which has always been a hallmark of HCBS teams - ability to get stops in critical situations. Not this group...
KJ putting in effort, but just doesn't have low post moves...

The portal + NIL essentially creates a mercenary strategy for teams. Keeping teams engaged is even more of a challenge than it used to be.
Certainly a big factor, but Sampson seems to have his guys bought in to digging in on every possession...
McCullar was 0 for everything other than one foul. No baskets, no rebounds, no assists. At least no TOs... ;)
6 made baskets in the half...
FTs keeping us in this.... ;)

The last 3 min we matched our scoring output for the first 15
But gap still widened....
We simply cannot get a good look at the basket.
@BeddieKU23 said in Cougar chat:
Good thing Elmarko only has a few games left here
2 TOs and an airball in a minute...
@kjayhawks Yes, but that doesn't excuse one basket in 8-1/2 minutes...
We're on a 15 point pace for the entire game.... ;(
1 of 7 start...
Something is clearly amiss with the team right now. We don't see the typical KU toughness and poise, esp. in late game situations and hostile environments. There doesn't seem to be the fire and passion we are used to seeing - no real leadership. I hate to say it, but this team seems...just soft...
On the other hand, we are the only team in the country who has beaten 3 of the top 4-6 teams in the country. Tennessee could end up as a 1 seed, which would mean we've already beaten 3 of the 4 #1 seeds. But, we've also lost to not very good teams and struggled to put away bad ones.
A first round exit would not be a surprise, nor would getting to the Elite 8. Just really difficult to see this team putting together a multi-game run against better competition at this point...
47-33 in the 2nd half...
BYU gave up 93 pts to Okie State...We shot 40%...
The Cougars have 47 pts in the 2d half...
It's not the missed 3s that have been the biggest issue - it's the poor % from 2 and in the paint. Well, and 12 missed FTs...
12 pt lead midway through the 2d half and going to lose by 10 at home....
BYU doesn't really play much defense and we are only mostly taking low % 6-8 ft floaters...
A HS team could make better than 10% from 3...
@FarmerJayhawk said in BYU Thread:
Juan taking over
Not on the defensive end. He is getting beat to the rim and to spots...
Not just bricking FTs - can't make 6 ft shots...

Duke and Wake Forest are playing a great game in Winston Salem right now with about 5 minutes left. Wake is currently up 1 amd this name has never been more than a two possession game either way.
Great game until really dumb decision by Wake to throw the lob. Up 5 and should have been going to the FT line the double bonus, but now a 2 pt game...
ISU on a pace for 20 pts for the game against Houston...6 pts after 12 minutes...
Hard to imagine that the bench could produce less than it has in other games, but 2 pts and 2 RBs...
Will give the guys credit - really dominated on the glass after the 1st 10 minutes...
OU +9 at the FT line...
OU has made their last 11 FTs...
That was a bail out call...
