Exactly, it would be nice to roll into the Tournament with a healthy and rested team. It seems the last couple years KU has come out of conference play pretty beat up, and worn down.
I kind of hope Coach plays all his players. Sure Taylor will see less and less playing time with the emergence of Diallo. Yet I'm not sure why he can't still get some playing time.
KU has one of the deepest teams in the country, and it's a veteran team. A team that has played together. Why not use that strength? Just overwhelm foes. No reason any player should average 30 mins plus of playing time a game.
Kentucky goes down. Helllllllllllllll yea.
Thank you @KUSTEVE for the link to http://firstrowsportes.eu/basketball ↗
Every since KU went to this new TV deal I've missed out on games that show on Epsn 3. As it isn't available where I'm at.
Thanks a again for the link. Please keep me and Jayhawk nation informed if you find other sites. You have made me a very happy person.
My wish is that coach would have the same passion and desire at winning conference championships as winning National championships.
If he did? We would have another Wizard in on our hands.
We all know Coach is one of the best. I'm just not sure he knows it.
Put it into perspective.
If UCLA never won another National Championship. It would take KU at the rate they win NC's over a hundreds years just to catch them.
You say well UCLA had a special run. OK
If Kentucky never won another National Championship. It would take KU at the rate they win NC's over a hundreds years just to catch them.
Yet for some reason in Jayhawk land winning the big one is all luck?
I guess UCLA and Kentucky are the luckiest programs ever? Hey might as well throw Duke in their too?
Fair enough. At least you understand what I'm saying.
Yet my point is valid. Coach K has single handedly surpassed all of KU's greatness. As he has not only taking his teams to final 4's , has won more games than any single coach, but he wins championships. (Nobody knows how many conference championships Duke and K have won and nobody cares). Yet he is considered the best coach in the game.
UCLA is a shell of what they once were yet they are still considered one of the best not because of their conference championships yet because they lead all comers in National championships. Even after all these years of average ball the name UCLA is still respected. And it isn't because of their dominance of the PAC. It's because they won the game that counted most. A lot.
Sadly I understand your point.
Yet outside of KU land. Kansas and it's deep history is below Kentucky, UCLA, North Carolina, and even Duke.
These are not my words. Just watch any sports show in America.
I love our Jayhawks and their history. It's one made of fairy tales.
Yet sadly nobody cares. As KU doesn't win National championships.
Throwing gasoline on the fire.
Conference championships are fine, and KU's run or dominance over the Big 12 is great. Yet in the same breath KU's dominance over the Big 12 has down graded it as a weak basketball conference.
Have we not heard the arguments? Well if KU was in the Big 10, ACC, SEC, or Pac they wouldn't have won so many conference championships.
Look I'm fine with the streak and the dominance KU and coach has shown in the regular season. Yet what I do have a problem with is everybody given Coach a free pass when it comes to the big tournament and his failures. It's like saying hey coach we'll give you a free pass if you lose in the second round every year just as long as you win the conference championship.
Bottom line ask yourself this 20 years from know will Espn be doing 20/20's on KU's conference success or that UK is making it the final 4 every year? Who will be considered the most dominating program? The program that wins their conference championship every year, or the team that makes it the final 4 every year.
Sorry guys and gals but UK's loss in the NIT is fading very fast. They are giving the benefit of the doubt and ranked in the top five every year before their stud class ever hits the floor. Also I maybe mistaken but it seems to me they are in the final four every year.
Basketball fans aren't going to remember how KU dominated the Big 12. Yet I'm pretty sure they all going to remember how UK dominated college basketball.
Yet here in Jayhawk nation the big tournament is all luck?
Ok I'm going to throw another log on the fire. ;)
A couple points or to be exact two points.
One Gonzaga has won several conference championships in a row yet no body noticed? UCLA has won several conference championships in a row and nobody noticed? Well to be fair UCLA did win several National championships in a row in that same time period. Hell I wasn't aware of UCLA dominance in the conference game until KU went on their own run. The truth be told Nobody remembers UCLA dominance of the Pac 10, yet they remember their dominance on the national stage. Not so sure Conference championships mean that much?
So many say the big tournament is a crap shoot? OK then let me ask this question? Then why has it been that a blue blood has always made the final 4 except one year. (somebody might want to check that one). The Tournament isn't luck, it's about playing your game. Coach's recent failures in the tournament aren't because of bad luck or matchups. It's because he didn't play to his teams strengths. How many times has KU lost to the three ball in the tournament. Yet coach on the record has said the 3 is fools gold.
The tournament isn't a crap shoot like must of us think. It's about playing to your strength. Think about it? How many final 4's and championship games has KU played in? Think that was all luck?
No it wasn't.
Some reading on Coach and the conference streak
The conference championship streak is quite impressive, yet using the poker to move some coals around in the fire.
Doesn't winning the conference title a 11 years in a row kind of lose it's luster. I mean how many times have we heard the argument that KU has won that many conference champions because they play in the Big 12 conference. That the Big 12 conference is a weak conference because it does nothing in the tournament.
I guess what I'm asking is, "The longer the streak goes does the streak it's self take away some of the luster of the great accomplishment"? or is it an achievement that won't truly be appreciated until the streak is over and some time has passed?
I must admit I'm a bit of a Toll. As I've traveled and visited many other schools talking websites. Not so much to talk trash or even stir the pot. Yet just to read and comprehend the points and views of other schools. For instance you'll find a small but growing faction of UK fans that are getting tired of the OAD circus, that Duke fans feel that Coach K getting into the OAD business is a good thing, and Tarheel fans still don't believe their school cheated when it comes to course work.
I do this for many reasons nothing bigger than getting a read on basketball and where it stands. Yet in all this time trolling I've come to the conclusion that KU fans are far and away the best and most knowledgeable fans their are. KU fans I've have found understand the game better than most coaches.
So I want to pick the minds of KU fans on kubuckets.
If KU were to lose the conference championship but at the very least make the Final 4 with no guarantee of a National championship?
Would you be happy, or do you want the conference championship?
I know why not both but what if it was one or the other?
(Just for the record if Coach keeps doing what he's doing I feel both will happen).
I for one really hopes that Coach doesn't shrink the lineup this year. I believe it is a crazy strength of this team to put multiple players in the game at anytime. Why not. All these kids play hard. Why not give them some minutes and give key players a chance to catch their breath. Besides if our bench players can hang while the studs are resting? Why not.
With Diallo coming into the mix KU has more big men than any program in the country. I say lets play them all. KU is deep at every position. I say lets play them all.
Why not just overwhelm teams with out talent and depth?
I haven't watched them play. I know they don't have a very good record. Yet wins and losses don't always paint the best picture. Anybody know?
I'm intrigued with your thought process and the hit man approach. Yet a serious question? If this was the case and your correct. Which you may very well be. Then why do it? Why would Diallo come to KU when he could've went to any other school. Especially a Nike school and avoided the career sabotage.
I understand what you're saying and it is a fair point. Yet sometimes a kid transferring or missing out on certain recruits, can make a person have questions.
For instance why did White leave? Why did Conner leave? Why did rumors surface that Greene was considering transferring. So much that he had to come out and quash such ideas. Why is KU missing out on so many kids? Why does KU have to wait until the spring to get any top 50 kids?
Is or was there a pattern being created? It's kind of like the old saying, "Where there is smoke there is fire".
I'm not really sure myself but I have taken notice.
I always thought this kid would be great at KU. Could you imagine having Greene and White both on the court at the same time?
Do to your recent claim that I do not read and listen. I went and reread you point.
I stand by my comment.
Sorry this isn't high school anymore. College basketball is the end of the road for most guys. Diallo is a highly touted recruit with a high chance of making a living playing the game. It doesn't matter what we as fans do. The expectations are already there. Media types had pegged KU as a final 4 team before Diallo and now with Diallo KU has become the favorite to win it all.
Besides I'm not sure high expectations will bother Diallo.
Happy turkey/Thanksgiving day everyone.
OH yea I'm all about the turkey. ;)
Found this surfing the web. Thought maybe some of you gurus would enjoy it.
The concept of Bad ball was coined by @jaybate-1.0. It is basically like when a team has the game in hand and they are running out the clock. They pass the ball around and run the clock limiting possessions. When the clock gets to running out the point guard drives the ball into the paint looking for a foul or an easy pass to a big man.
Yet as I said before I believe Mason and Graham were driving by design. As Coach noticed that Vandy kept switching their defenders creating mismatches for KU.
Dude I'm on cloud nine. ;) I believe
Sorry @jaybate-1.0 driving the ball to the hoop is not bad ball. It's a practice that has been played since they allowed players to dribble the ball. Besides I'm pretty sure Frank and Devonte driving into the lane was by design, as Vandy kept switching their defenders.
Either way Rock Chalk my friend.
Sorry I didn't see any bad ball played tonight. I seen a KU team rely on the 3 of overcome a very tall Vandy team in the first half. Come second half Coach pulled off the reins off his stallions and said run boys run.
You just hate that HCBS is allowing this great shooting team to fire away. One thing most folks forget about shooting threes means long rebounds.
OK Whatever? I happen to love Greene he has passion, and wants to take the big shots. Not sure how this turned to Greene? Yet ok
I know that's what I'm talking about. Maybe I didn't explain it my point very clearly? Think of it in this way. Say you're Greene, or a hot shooting guard. Yet if you miss a couple three's the coach pulls you out of the game. Would you not be a bit more nervous about pulling the trigger on a 3 point shot even though you maybe wide open for fear that you miss and be taking out of the game?
That's why I say it's more than KU shooting the three. It's letting the kids play.
Great posts Jayhawk faithful, but I think you guys are missing on a very important point about this team and shooting the three.
To many times we just focus on the mere numbers. Like how many 3's are shot and how many are made. Yet good jump shot shooters know a good shot and when it's bad. I know we can't make to strong of a case for the current events as KU has beat up on average to below average teams. Yet the point is allow a shooter to shoot when they have the shot without punishment for missing allows the team to play freely.
Sadly as a fan and even a coach when a player is missing the shot we don't want them to shot anymore. When in fact we should demand them to shoot it more. The 3 point shot is not some lucky shot. When a gun slinger finds his rhythm? It means somebody is getting their ass handed to them.
Cheick speaks four languages? I don't care what happened in high school. The kid can speak four languages and is about to make the honor roll in his one semester at KU.
I can't even speak or type one language with out messing it up.
I bet there is no one that works at The NCAA head quarters that can speak 4 languages. Talk about irony.
I feel it's more than just the three. You see last year especially towards the end HCBS pulled in the reins on his outside shooters and decided everything was going in side. Well the results were horrendous as we all know.
It's more about an old Legend realizing what once worked isn't working as well anymore. The days for just forcing your will on somebody are few and far between. With the rule changes and at which the pace of the game is played. Everything is geared to score and score quickly. Okie ball/muscle ball has become in so many ways an ancient relic.
I could be wrong but feel that HCBS is having a hard time making the adjustment. Yet I see glimpses that he's about to turn this thing upside down. In the MSU game HCBS regressed to muscle ball and it sent not only his team but Jayhawk nation into rage. Yet against Chaminade coach reverted back the WUG's form and let his kids play.
Will there be nights when the shots aren't falling? Sure. Will KU shoot worse against better teams.? Sure It only stands to reason when you play a better team that your numbers will go down. But in the end KU want be passing up a great 3 point shot to pass the ball inside to get a highly contested two pointer.
The bottom line is this team strengths is shooting the ball. Why would you want to take that part of the game from them? Why would you want to take away what they do best? It doesn't make sense to me.
I disagree. KU is a great 3 point shooting team as long as HCBS lets them play. In the MSU game KU wasn't doing to bad from 3 land until HCBS decided everything had to go inside. Hence KU blew the lead and lost the game.
As fans we can't take much from this game. Yet there is one thing I took from it. HCBS let the Jayhawks play. When was the last time you seen that?
To be fair HCBS said himself that shooting the 3 is fools gold. I wonder how Greene/White/Conner felt when they heard that?
I'm a firm believer HCBS is just as guilty as Greene. Yes Greene was wrong and must pay the price. Not sure a six game ban is fair, but I don't know what was exactly said, or what happened.
Yet that doesn't excuse HCBS from recruiting a player he has no plans of using and doesn't appreciate they very thing he can do. Shooting the three. It was the same thing with White. Yet White was smart enough to know it was time to leave. It was a smart move for him as he is starting to excel and light it up.
You may not like what AsadZ has to say, and you can even dismiss him/her as not knowing. You can even call him/her names. Yet the fact is he's/she's speaking a point of view that is gaining favor among the KU faithful.
LIke it or not he's not alone.
My wish is (not bashing HCBS) that in the future HCBS will stay away from recruiting sharp shooting 3 point shooting assassins like Greene/White. He doesn't use them and doesn't value their craft. It would save me a lot of heart ache.
I just want to win. Spartan ass tastes like crap.
For the spirit of the boys and girls that post here on KUBuckets the best place to talk about KU basketball. I will put down my pitch fork too. That MSU game really hurt me as a fan, but I wont rehash all that crap.
Come on HCBS lead this KU team to a championship, and I'm not talking about a conference one. Just being clear.
Maybe Nike bought the NCAA too.
You think that was bad? Ok I'll lighten up a little more.
Why would you think I'm grouchy? Actually I'm feeling quite better.
I'll let you know when I see them in a KU uniform.
You would be correct.
:) You don't want me signing. It's so bad they kicked me out of church.
Hey I Hope HCBS figures it out, but it looks like to me he's sticking to his guns on his way or the highway.... You think fans are chirping now, wait until KU loses in the second around again.
Holy Cow.
I keep getting told KU is just fine and BS is just great. Yet I don't see the top talent lining up to come to KU, and HCBS is taking the same approach with the basically the same team as last year. Which ended very badly.
I'm sorry to all those I've offended but I'm not going to run around singing the praise of HCBS when it's obvious KU has some serious problems.
So are you saying that no fan should ever question what a Head coach does? So the only ones that can question what HCBS does is another coach?
Interesting
