Man KU seems so lost. :(
Or missed free throws it seems.
Can KU rebound ???
HCBS needs for get playing two bigs. We need all ball handlers on deck.
Never seen a KU team look so lost at home. :(
I feel a run coming. Lets go KU
I guess KU decided not show??
Well damn. :( I guess Mason could use a rest though. Boy has been a work horse for KU this year.
Hopefully they play. I don't want any excuses when they enter the Phog and lose their minds. ;)
Oh I am, I never give up it's the one flaw I have LOL. However as I've gotten older I've learned to see things for what they are. I still root for a miracle when needed. ')
I mean no disrespect to the deep thoughts being posted.
However we are playing bad ball because HCBS is being stubborn. Now let me say I maybe wrong and HCBS is a genius. After all he gets paid really well to coach, and I just pound away at my keyboard with my arm chair beliefs. Yet this team's real strength is shooting the three. It really is.
Now some make the claim that we lost this game or this game even though we shot the three ball at a high %. Well my rebuttal would be that have lost just as many games playing the high/low and not shooting the three at all. Just saying.
HCBS has been rock solid in conference play. I think that speaks for it's self. However lets look at his tournament success or the lack of. Yes HCBS has had some success in the tournament, but man he's had some stinkers too. As a fan ask yourself this question? How many times after exiting the tournament did we as fans say to ourselves, "Where was the three ball?" Also in those games that sent us home how many of those teams had a key player just get hot from three land and KU had no answer?
The high/low is a consistent way of winning games, but in the tournament crazy things happen, and if you can't shoot the three? Well then you come home.
I'm worried but for not the same reasons as you are.
These misses to me are not a big deal. As we only shoot 10 a game on average and a lot of them are taking when the shot clock is running down or at the end of the game when KU needs to rally. Both types are well guarded shots, and not good shots.
Why I'm concerned is KU only shoots 10 threes a game on average, and then when they do it's only necessary. Problem is when that moment comes for KU that it needs to shoot a three the opponent knows it as well.
Though I could argue and even agree to a point with some who believe that the law of averages will even out our three point shot. That doesn't change the fact that at KU we don't value the three until it's to late. HCBS doesn't run sets for the shot unless the game is on the line or it's at the end of the half. Meaning if this team is to shoot threes it has to be in the flow of the game. So if a team decides to take away the three land, well then those threes aren't going to come in the flow of the game. They will be well guarded.
Bottom line in my opinion if KU is to make a deep run in the tournament they'll need to shoot the three. The HCBS high/low in all it's greatness isn't going to get us a final 4 this year. We just don't have the players and experience to run it.
Good Point !!! I never thought about that. How many of those nonconference games were in fact HCRW. It's not uncommon to plan games 3 to 5 years in advance, and we all now HCRW never really planed a strong noncon like HCBS has done.
Me TOOOOOOOOO ')
I have to admit the WV loss just riled my soul and left me in a fit of rage. (As some of you could tell) ') I don't know why but that loss hurt me.
As a fan I want revenge. I want those Mountaineers, hillbilly song playing fans to know what madness is.
Welcome to the PHOG. Rolk Chalk.
Bottom line guys and gals? Is when you are knocking on the door of breaking historically records everybody and I mean everybody is dissecting your accomplishment.
Think about it? KU's consecutive conference championships streak is an amazing feat especially since it's been done in the modern day of basketball, and in a power conference. Hell it's most likely a bigger deal than UK maybe running the table this year.
Unfortunately with greatness comes those that want to pick it apart. It's just human nature.
You know as this topic has kind of turned to the character issues of Cliff and whether he should come back or not.
Let me go on record as saying I hope this whole deal is just the NCAA trying dig up something only to find nuts. Also let me say I hope Big Cliff comes back to KU for another year.
Cliff is no different than any other kid coming out of High School. As we are starting to see a lot of these OAD's have major holes in their game. I have no doubt that Cliff has always been much bigger, stronger, and more athletic ability than his piers while growing up. Problem is his coach's instead of teaching him the fundamentals of basketball, like how to score with his back to the basket, tried to get as much out of him for their own personal gain. Poor Cliff is finding out he isn't the biggest and badest on the court, and the lack of basic teaching from his youth has left him grasping with no real skill set to give him any traction. Hence the freefall he's been in.
If anything Cliff is a Jayhawk and he needs another year with HCBS he really does. Maybe even a third year. Just my opinion.
Ok not much info on Cliff and his NCAA problem. However breath easy. From what little I've read the only danger KU would have is if they decided to play Cliff despite the NCAA warning. It seems what has happened has nothing to do with KU. The NCAA seems to by promising a quick conclusion to the case. We will see.
Think about it KU faithful ??? The NCAA warned KU about Cliff and his eligibility. KU responded quickly and without a doubt Cliff doesn't play.
At first I thought maybe it was about the High School education he received. However after a few KU Faithful responses I'm not sure he or somebody in his family didn't contact an agent for the up coming draft.
Gentlemen and Ladies Hem isn't saying HCBS isn't a great coach. Come on guys ??? He's merely pointing to the fact this KU team isn't playing to it's strength. The (((Three point shot))). Many times Hem has said he favors HCBS's High/low system. He just feels like I do we are leaving our best weapon in the darkness of a high/low system.
Arizona is beatable no rhyme to their scheme.
Duke is beatable as they rely on a big time freshmen. One bad game they go home.
Villanova is beatable as they still like the three when their real strength is down low.
Gonzaga is beatable because they haven't really been tested. Played no one.
Virginia is beatable but scary. They play mad defense.
Wisconsin is beatable because they can't really handle a back court that is quick.
UK is crazy and scary awesome. However if HCBS would be willing to let his snipers shoot instead of pounding inside all game. Yes KU can beat them, however only if the snipers are given the green light. Go inside against UK and you lose. Period.
Seen the play more than once. It was not a foul. Taylor slipped and fail to the ground. Just my opinion.
They're going for and out bounds set 3
We need a timely three
Threeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
yea baby
Love it when the KU crowd decides to make their presence felt.
Cross ur fingers and lets hope KU can figure this out.
A run usually happens or starts with a big dunk or three point shot, and well we just don't shot 3's in Jayhawk land.
Isn't this so much fun??
It's happening again. Pound the ball inside the whole game. The opposing team sticks around. Then all of sudden KU is down 10. Then HCBS will want threes ???
Traylor needs to come out. He's just waking down the court
yea in the locker room. ;)
OHH the irony.
Geez guys How about we get in front of our man???
Finally other than just pounding it inside. Man something has got to change. The Horns have already shown their going to hang with us in this game.
Never sir not I.
What Selden forget how to dunk?
He's sitting on the bench with Cliff
You know at some time the points in the paint will stop falling. Then what?
Greene looks terrible right now
Actually you may be right.
I would guess new info was uncovered or somebody revealed something to the NCAA. It's hard telling. Thing is nobody seems to be talking. So at this point it's all speculation. My guess it's about his high school courses, as KU as a university wasn't mentioned. It's my understanding they could actually still play Cliff but they aren't taking any chances. So Cliff sits.
Memphis was warned the Rose could be endanger of losing his eligibility. Yet they chose to play him anyways.
No I don't think it's like that. Cliff cleared the clearing house, so KU is good. Plus I think they could still play Cliff, but they're not going to take any chances. Either way the NCAA found something on Big Cliff.
I wonder if this is like the Derrick Rose situation?
Either way KU is making the right decision to go ahead and sit Cliff.
I don't know but I believe KU is making the correct move by sitting him.
Big Cliff to sit out after NCAA alerted KU to his eligibility.
It's not possible to get open three's with HCBS
-
It's not in his DNA. He's all about the system. Period
-
He cut his teeth on the high/low. All the tutelage He has received has been play strong defense and pound the ball inside. The three is viewed more like a hail marry, or trick play. Only used to confuse and keep the defense honest so the ball can go back inside.
-
He doesn't value the three. He's called it fools Gold, and believes it should only come in the flow of the game. He doesn't scheme for the shot unless the game is in the line. Kind of like a Hail Marry, or trick player.
-
HCBS prefers to run the offense before a 3 point shot is hoisted, meaning by then the shot will be contested. The offense is hurried as the clock is running down, and the defense is ratcheted up as they know the offense is running out of time.
I just don't believe the three point shot is apart of the offense game plan. I think as fans we were bamboozled into thinking the three was apart of the game plan, as KU players were hitting them at such a high percentage. When in reality they just had the green light to shoot the three in the flow of the game if they became open. There was no scheme, rhyme, or reason for the shot.
There is no real offense ran in the system for the three point shot. The three is nothing more than a novelty item. Only to be used in the flow of the game and at the end of games when KU is losing. So how to get an open look three??? Well if your playing in HCBS's system the answer is get lucky.
I love players only meetings. It says the players care and are buying into the Jayhawk way.
Thanks. :) However I wonder if it's so much Cliffs fault or HCBS's trying to lean on a freshman to run his High/low offense? After all it was obvious that Cliff lacked any back to goal skills, and was never one to pass the ball in high school. In HCBS's hey day a freshman big always rode the bench his freshman year with spot play here and there.
Just my opinion I think HCBS went after to much top talent, when in the end he was going to run his system. Hell even in the NBA when they draft a top player they scheme their offense to fit that said player. Not trying to beat the drum to much but this KU team can shoot the three and we average what 10 3's a game?? That's wasting talent. Which is fine, but how about we don't recruit a great 3 point shooter when our goal is to pound it inside?
After reading some of my topics and posts it may seem I have lost my mind. However thank you to those that were right there with me. ')
However I can't handle this as a KU Fan. First the WV I don't know what I'm doing loss and then the Kstate I'm scared and have no answers showing by KU. Has left me seeing red and now just shaking my shoulders.
However let me say this if HCBS is going to stick to his guns about running his high/low then he needs to change the way he recruits. If we are going to run high/low system hell or high water then we should recruit accordingly.
No more just getting the best talent you can.
No more recruiting great 3 point shooters you don't value them and don't use them until your HIgh/Low has failed. By then it's to late anyways.
Draft only point guards for every guard position. After all the system is to pass the ball inside.
Draft one big man that can score
Draft one big man that can pass in the paint.
If we are going to play a system then we need to draft to that system.
Recruiting the best talent we can get is a waste of time and causes a lot of heart ache to fans if we aren't going to play to the strength of the talent that you recruit. So recruit to the system. No heart aches.
Finally thanks to everybody for looking the other way with my posts and whispering under your breath he's drunk. :)
No really thanks for putting up with my rants.
