I'm going to suggest something that may rock your world, maybe not? As I've watched this KU team progress this year, I've had a change of heart.
On the front page I was like start the Thunder Cliff over Traylor everyday and any day. However after watching this game something jumped off the TV screen at me. Perry Ellis. Now don't get me wrong I love Ellis as much as the next guy or girl. However When Ellis is good he is good but when he is bad he's really bad.
I understand there will be those nights were a player can't fill up the bucket, but it seems to me that Ellis is becoming not only a liability on offense when the shots aren't falling but he can't guard anybody.
I'm not trying to down on the young man but I'm tired of living and dying with Ellis. KU's two losses Ellis did nothing and KU got blown out. I think Ellis should see plenty of playing time as he is dangerous on the offense end of the game, but I think he should be the sixth man.
Sorry if I stepped on any toes as I've been throwing down a few. :)
Greene is cold. Ice in his veins.
I think it's time Ellis sits on the bench.
Here hoping we hit some 3's in the second half.
I find it interesting that he's choosing now, as conference play is about to start? Maybe I'm wrong but isn't this a bit unusually?
These kids usually sign in the early period or in the spring, or at least that's what I thought.
Sorry My friend. :(
Yet dreams that aren't acted upon are mere hallucinations.
Here's hoping HCBS dreams a little dream. :)
Don't get me wrong I'm not against hunting for food, But I always laugh when some dude after a few beers and a bottle of whiskey while playing some poker decides to tell me how he took down that big old Buck. :)
I always respond and ask so you're a big time hunter. The response is always yep. Then I smile and say how about you hunt something that can hunt you back before you call it a sport? Of course their like no problem, you pick the hunt. I'm like ok ;) Hunt a Tiger. NO hunting parties and NO guns, but I'll let you have a bow an arrow. LOL

Hey I wore Converse as kid. I rather liked them. :)
Don't really know. You maybe right? However I would have to believe these new recruits at least knew it was possible. Yet they committed asap. The question is why?
I mean I get a kid wanting to play with his dream college. However I have to ask the question? This many star studded kids want to play for UK? If they do why? That's all I'm saying.
That depends on your definition of what is wrong is? Are any rules being broken? No I would agree, but nobody can't tell me that a company or companies would spend billions and not try to protect it's investments. Why would a shoe company invest so heavily on young kids and sit back and not try to influence and protect it's investments?
If a HC especially one of Pitino's Stature is willing to go on the record saying it is so. Then I can't be to far off. Thx for opening my eyes.
I will take it a step farther and say Wiggins being traded from Cleveland was Nike flexing it's muscles.
Think about it like this. Why would a high valued High School recruit go to a school that he can't start and will have his playing time limited? Now I know there are always exceptions to the rule, but that's not the norm. Yet UK was able to recruit a star studded class at every position on the floor, even though ever position was already filled?????? Really?
If you were a basketball playing stud? Would you go to a school that you would have to fight for minutes? When you can go somewhere else and be the starter and the stud? No you wouldn't and neither would I. Well unless You have a little love and a whisper in your ear. Just saying.
You know the article tries to be No, No, No, shoe companies aren't calling the shots. It even mentions Wiggins a Nike boy signing with an Adidas School. However it fails to mention Wiggins pretty much had a shoe contract with Adidas before he signed his letter of intent with KU. Just saying.
OAD is killing the college game. :(
What Happened? It never used to be this way? It used to be a kid went to college did his time grew up as a man, and then was drafted? Am I wrong? Did I miss something? Did I go to sleep one night and woke up to a new world? A world were great High School kids can just by pass the College game all together and play in the league? Is everybody the next King James, or Kobe? Why is the NBA willing to gamble so much money on potential?
I have no answers and just questions. Only this. Some will make the argument that these kids should be paid and have a right to be paid. Ok? I'm with ya. Let them go, and do away with the OAD rule. However if they don't make it, or get drafted let them go overseas. Don't let the college game be a back up plan. Hear me out. It's already very clear to me the college experience and the game means nothing to them, so why have a bail out plan for them?
In the real world many men and women have to make choices that can affect their lives. Good or Bad. Yet we want to protect these young boys, because they come from poor families, and because they have potential. No if these young men think they're good enough let them go, and when they fail. Let them deal with it. They got to grow up sometime. Just my two cents.
Well after a beat down like this to a totally inferior team. All I can say is well at least we have our health, our family, and our friendship on KUBuckets. :)
Merry Christmas, or happy holidays, which ever you prefer. ;)
The Most interesting team in the world.
KU doesn't always lose but when they do, they get blown out. :(
I can't say one way or the other. Is Coach Cal cheating? Did the Wizard cheat? I'm guessing not. Don't get me wrong I would love UK to get the death penalty but I'm not even so sure the school is cheating. Let me put it this way, if HCBS got a 5 oad's next year would we consider him cheating?
I can't speak for what happened in the era of UCLA dominance. I just wasn't really there and really don't know enough to point a finger.
I really believe @jaybate-1.0 is on to something with the whole shoe wars theory. When I first stumbled onto this this theory I thought it was kind of funny, yet interesting. So I began to research it, to keep an eye open to it. I would take it a step further and say the shoe wars effect the NBA game as well.
I'll make two points. Anybody can rebuttal if they wish.
Maybe I wrong but it seems to me most Jayhawks gifted enough to make it to the NBA sign shoe deals with adidas. This assumption being made under HCBS kids.
I'm not so sure Wiggins getting forced out of Cleveland wasn't an act of war by Nike. Just saying.
In this regard @jaybate-1.0 has me sold on the whole shoe war theory.
I like. :) Sign me up for the ride.
@wissoxfan83 I'm sorry I would've pushed him ;)
Thanks for the look-in to your life. I rather enjoyed the read, and your point on contact and so forth.
The thing is we can never really blame a parent or person for standing against a said sport because of the danger. However can we really stop a child or young person from playing what sport they want? Like the issue of football. More parents are making the decision not to let their young boys play the sport, for fear of injury. However injuries can happen in every sport, hell injuries can happen walking out the front door of your house. I played a lot of football growing up. To this day when August starts to roll around and the season starts to change. I can smell football in the air. Sometimes I'll say in front of my wife it smells like football and she'll just look at me like I'm crazy. People that have never played the game can't understand it. It's no different with basketball. You can smell it too, or sense it. These sports are more than games, they develop and change our lives. Do you understanding what I'm saying?
Of course things have changed and so has society. I can remember many times as a kid getting hurt was just something boys did. ;) Not today stub a toe and your a bad parent if you don't take them to the Emergency room. LOL
I guess in the end as a parent you have to weigh the odds and decide what you can live with and what you can't. However in the end the kid just might do what they want to anyway.
So hard to do in this In the new age of the OAD, but I do see your point.
As a college basketball fan one almost has to feel cheated. Never really getting to know the new freshman. Never really getting a chance to bond with them. Never really getting to feel their pain when they fail, or celebrating when they are successful. Never having that opportunity to watch these young bright eyed and bushy tailed boys become men, and a force to be reckoned with. One day they are there and the next they are gone. Then the conversation turns to reload. :(
I almost feel like the college game is dyeing. I wasn't around to really witness the dominance of the UCLA era? Ok maybe I was around but I was too young to really understand. Not taking away from the Wizard and the UCLA era of dominance, it must have been something to watch. However as a KU fan and college basketball fan I would have to think how boring is this? I mean you, know who's going to win. A fan is just watching to see if by the grace of God or some magically being that an upset could happen.
As you can see it's an issue I wrestle with. As I'm right there screaming and pumping my fist when KU gets a big time recruit, and sadden when they chose another school. I know in my heart I want KU to dominate the game of college basketball, yet apart me wants to cling to the history of KU and it's alumni's. As we can talk total wins, conference championships, Final Four appearances, and the number of national championships (Just for the record I do believe KU was cheated out of some championships because of the east coast basis)(LOL), but it's what KU has done for the game. For we (I say we because I think fans are important in this) nursed the game, we protected the game, and in some ways leveled the playing field so all fans can enjoy the game we call basketball. :)
Having said that, hell yes I want HCBS and KU basketball to win two or three, or four, (I think you get my point) National Championships in a row. ;)
I kind of hope HCBS goes with the hot hand when picking starters. I think this would keep the intensity at a level this team needs to win.
Yea I agree, but I was hoping. I love Kansas kids playing for KU. :(
I thought I was being nice? Guess not?
As much as Mason is a work horse and a stud. I agree HCBS has to find a way to preserve Mason. If he doesn't Mason is done come tournament time. The conference schedule is going to be brutal.
@HighEliteMajor, @JayHawkFanToo, @Jaybate this is what happens when the KU basketball team goes a whole week with out a game. :) Like a bunch of pit bulls trying to fight each other. LOL
You guys should drop this and come over to the topic I started. "Be Honest" and tell me how your really feel about this years KU team. ;)
To a point. :) It's ok Jaybate., as I said I was bored when I started this banter with you.. Thanks for sparing with me. ;)
I need the practice. LOL
I hated to see Conner go too. In fact I was a little upset. :( However the College game is what it is. Maybe Conner seen the light in all those practices, or maybe HCBS was just to honest with him about playing time? I don't know. However I noticed he wasted no time in getting out.
I do know this I'll be watching to see how he progresses. :) I hope this doesn't make me a shocker fan.
I totally agree. Sometimes these kids are used to win high school games instead of being developed to play at the next level. The same case could be made going from college to the NBA. Sometimes it's just about winning.
The thing about Cliff is you can see the makings. He shows no fear just lacks the tools (the know how to execute). That is something HCBS and the coaching staff needs to unlock, and teach. If and when he figures it out, Oh my. The kid is going to be nasty.
A killer instinct isn't something that can be taught, you either have or you don't. I have no doubt Cliff has it. :)
Your telling my not to speak and only think. I might not be the master swordsman that you are in using the power of the pen or in this case the keyboard. However I'm a no nonsense kind of person and get right to the point without sugarcoating it. :)
HEM made an opinion and so did JayHawkfanToo. So what is the problem?
Yea this team has a swagger I haven't seen this for quite some time in a KU team. Last years team seemed to be searching for greatness. This year's team doesn't care about greatness they just want to kick your ass. :)
Now that's trying to block freedom of speech. :)
Who was denying who? Nobody!!! @JayhawkFanToo merely asked for a little respect for HCBS?? Yes I would agree it was a bit strong. However hasn't HCBS earned a little respect? or would your prefer HEM coach the KU basketball team?
Ah but free speech and opinion are two different things. The right to speak is protected, however an opinion is fair game. ;)
I could never bail on the Jayhawks. It's not apart of my functioning brain, or what's left of It. :)
I couldn't agree more. Devonte is, is, is, well a stud. The boy can play.
I totally agree on Perry. Everything I've read on him and his up bringing says education. How refreshing that a kid can get an education and not feel the pressure to chase the money so his mom and extended family can reap the rewards.
@Family-Hawk No tits dude, but I do have a set of balls. LOL
You're right though lets enjoy the ride. :)
Ok I'm bored. :)
What is free speech?? Is it the right to say what ever you want? If so what if, what that person says is wrong? Should they not be corrected??
Now @JayHawkFanToo did finish his or her comment a bit strong, but the content was quite sound. Just my two cents. ;)
Ah the dead period of finals week. Man oh man.
OK so we got sometime to be normal fans again for a week. You know to breath in out like most normal people. To wear normal clothes and not those good luck shirts, shorts, socks, hats (and for some that underwear)(really? :) )and so on. That apparel that should've been dropped in the trash can years ago. ;)
No more playing! Here's the question? So what do think of this years KU team? Be honest. Do you have doubts, or concerns? Is this team what you thought it was? Do you think this is another ho-hum season, or is it dripping with potential? Can they repeat as Big12 champions? Can they win it all?
It's a free for all. Just be honest. And for you Jayhawks fans that just sit back and read the wonderful comments and Info I want to hear from you too. If you ever post this is the time. I want to hear it all.
Myself???? I think this KU team has great potential. However I'm perplexed with this team, and HCBS. I'm not sure why? I guess maybe this KU team is in all aspects is the underdog. Not something I'm used too. I look at this team and, think hay their going to be great. Yet I can't shake this feeling like they are the underdog. That they are no longer the team to beat. Is this that special season?
This team got beaten badly in their one loss, but it doesn't seem to phase them? They play with a borderline cockiness, a attitude, and I love it. I don't know where this team is going to take us but sign me up for the ride. :D
Sad but true. Live by the three die by the three. I don't care who you are sometimes those bombs just don't hit.
I'm a little discouraged with the last two KU games. I know they won but the ball seems to be sticking. This current KU team isn't going to over power teams in the paint. Lets just be honest. However they have shown flashes of scoring inside when they play hot potato with the basketball.
I'm not sure what the answer is but it's just something I've noticed.
Luck favors the prepared mind. ;)
I couldn't agree more. I feel sorry for Clint because he won't. He loves KU too much.
@HighEliteMajor ------You said,
".Oubre Minutes: A bigger look. Lots of good stuff. Has a natural ability to get to the hoop. Seems tentative at times, but a work in progress."
I can't believe it??? YOU Said something nice about Oubre. B)
Love the points. Keep it up HEM.
It seems our 10 team league presented two one loss teams and they weren't good enough to make this new 4 team playoff. Does anybody care?
I know we are all big basketball fans but man this is a punch to the gut for our conference and our future.
I'm afraid if our conference is snubbed again in the next couple years. Two things will happen
2 The Big 12 will disband (as in every man for himself).
@JayHawkFanToo you say that Prince was a bad coach and no better than Gill? Why? What because they lost at KU and Kstate? That's my point.
You're saying Kstate should be able to get a good coach, but if they don't win then they were a bad hire. Why is that? Even the great Snyder isn't exactly getting the greatest talent. He's just a great coach. I applaud him and would argue with anybody that he's one of the best. However that's not the point. Who's going to replace him? What coach can go to Kstate and replace the great Snyder? Who himself isn't getting the greatest talent? Are you seeing the point yet? Even with the recent success at Kstate it isn't even close to being a house hold name.
The reality is the Nick Saban's of the world aren't coming to Kstate because you can't recruit there. Snyder is a great coach what he's done is the best, however when he dies so does Kstate football.
@JayHawkFanToo Could've of should've but didn't. Just because Kstate is winning games these days doesn't mean they can just plug in another coach and not miss a beat.
What Snyder has done at Kstate I'm not sure can be duplicated. Remember Kstate isn't exactly flushed with great talent. It's one thing for lets say a Texas or Oklahoma to have a bad hire. They'll still be flushed with talent. Not so much with Kstate. Remember this every coach that has a losing record is going to be a bad hire.
So really the next HC at Kstate does need to be a Snyder clone. Someone one that recruits Jucos heavily and can find some diamonds in the rough every couple years. No reason for KU football to build a program like this. That when the HC is gone so is the program.
@Careful-you Just in my life time KU went from Larry Brown, to Roy Williams. No drop off and a case can be made it's was better. Then it went from Roy Williams to HCBS. No drop off and a case can be made it's better. And when HCBS retires or moves onto the NBA the next coach will mostly likely be as good or better. Now is that coaching or a program? Look at the Texas football program. They have sucked for the last 3 or 4 years, yet every year the have one of the best recruiting classes in the country. Now why is that? Because they are Texas? Of course they are. My point. Kids go to Texas not because it's the head coach but because it's Texas.
I don't think anybody would argue the Snyder is a fine and even great coach. Yet when he retires or dies where will Kstate be? We already had a taste of what would happen to the Wildcat football program when Snyder isn't there. It started to fall into the lower tier quite quickly. So will recruits continue to look at Kstate after Snyder fades off into the sunset? Just Saying.
Snyder is a great coach, nobody can argue that. However Ralster has a valid point. Look what happened when Snyder left the first time? The wildcats fell down the ladder of respectability like a knife through hot butter.
You don't want a one and done coach. As fans and Alumni you want sustained success. You want a program that keeps getting the recruits long after the HC has retired, moved on, or has been fired.
In some ways KU's success on the hardwood does affect the football program. Yet it doesn't have to be that way, or should I say it could be used as a spring board for the boys that play on the grid iron. There is no reason KU shouldn't be a respected program in the game of football. Even with all Kstates recent success in football, they are still not a household name like KU.
Which leads me to my next tidbit. If KU fans were as fanatical about football as they are about basketball, maybe just maybe we can turn this thing around. Remember high profile recruits don't want to play in half or less than half full stadiums. Just this year KU damn near knocked off one of the best football teams in the country. (panel my ass) Yet nobody seen it. Just saying.
@JayHawkFanToo that first halve was so bad because they we're trying too hard. It wasn't the Gators. KU played their worst defense of the year, including the UK game. Not because they sucked but because they wanted to make a point, a statement. You don't think this KU team isn't embarrassed by their UK loss?
Let it go. KU righted the ship and got the victory.
