F’ing TCU. Epic choke job.

@Crimsonorblue22 said in Ku looks to be caught. Why aren’t they dropping the dirt on everyone else:

A lot of questions. Why didn’t they bring it up in the 2 cases?

Bingo! It wasn’t in evidence and the only reason anyone knows anything about it is because one judge cited pieces of it in a dissenting opinion on one charge. If it was really exculpatory (like if it proved KU was not a victim of the fraud but actually participated in the scheme) why didn’t the defense try to run with it? Something doesn’t add up here. The NCAA absolutely won’t get access to the full tape either. It even goes against the NCAA’s own guidance on the types of things they’d consider. This isn’t even evidence since it wasn’t admitted at trial.

I think I'd start TGF at the 4 tomorrow. Seems like he's earned it. TN can't throw it in the ocean, so his lack of shooting won't be as big an issue.

They needed something good to happen. Some guys are still slumping pretty bad, but we at least found some guys who will really hustle. And Harris definitely earned some more PT.

Garfield Lawrence already out. Only one that might waffle is Kam Grays. He and Dearmon were tight because of their Alabama ties. Chevis is going to have to close on that one. It will be interesting to see if anyone wants out of their LOI or transfers. Too early to tell on that front.

Dearmon • Jan 28, 2021 01:23 AM

New one: due to family reasons, he may end up taking the OC job at Middle Tennessee. Worth noting this is exclusively a family choice. If Dearmon were choosing in a vacuum he'd stay without even considering.

OU just won at Austin. Maybe we don’t absolutely suck hind tit?

No, but maybe we are just the 5th or 6th best team in the conference this year???

I have us 4th right now. Which isn’t great but not worth a lot of the chicken little chatter

Just to note, we are in a 3 way tie for 5th in the conference right now. All six others have a better overall W-L record. We lose again and could fall to 7th, which is certainly something we don't expect in Jayhawk land...

On the other hand, we've had some home games cancelled and tough road games, so the schedule is supposedly more favorable the next month.

On the other, other hand, we've typically been the best road team in the conference, by far...

Yeah, our schedule has been brutal. KenPom has our SoS at 3rd in the country. We've played exactly one game against the bottom 3 teams in the conference. Say we go 5-1 in those 6 and it gets us to 9 wins in the conference. Plus home games left against Okie Lite and Tech. Then maybe can clip Texas at Austin or Baylor at home. 12 league wins isn't crazy, but I think 11-7 is more likely. 12-6 probably gets a tie for 3rd, 11-7 4th or 5th.

@Kcmatt7

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Wilson improve on his own, most likely at the direction of S&D coach from home?

Bingo. If you didn’t come from a family with means to get to a private gym you were kind of screwed. Or in Enaruna’s case couldn’t leave your house.

Harris probably won’t be a great shooter, but this staff is one of the best at reworking shooting forms. Garrett is a good example. From his freshman year he’s improved by 10 points from 3 and 34(!) from the line. Ochai has made strides each year. Shoot, even Doke added 10 points from Junior to senior year. Jackson improved throughout the year. And on and on it goes. They aren’t miracle workers, like Garrett isn’t going to turn into Phil Forte anytime soon, but kudos to them and Marcus for putting in the work to become at least a threat from 3 and a reliable FT shooter.

Yep, he’s a walk-on. Big utility type frame. Could grow to be a Sam Burt type or 5 tech. Should at minimum help on special teams eventually.

Worst KU Team Since? • Jan 25, 2021 08:11 PM

Likely resume at this point. 4 quad 1 wins, which is tied for 4th. 6 Q1 + Q2 wins is a lot. We’ve played 9 Q1 games so far, most in the country. Our resume is better than most think, even though I’ll be the first to admit we aren’t playing great right now.

Also, KSU. Still bad.

Man, we could've really used Carlik Jones when he transferred. 6'1 do it all guard. 36% from 3. Averaging 18/6/5.

Really excited for the competition in the QB room. I think we should add a veteran after spring (ahem.. Jace) but there's some potential in Daniels, Hawley, and Easters. Daniels obviously has the tools. Easters is kind of a mystery to me. Played in a goofy offense with pretty subpar play calling. Hawley had a terrific senior year and is a late bloomer. Might be most excited for him, tbh.

Worst KU Team Since? • Jan 23, 2021 09:14 PM

The good news is our schedule in February is pretty soft. 4 games against KSU and ISU, Okie Lite and Tech at home. Self is a master at in-season adjustments. We'll be fine.

2018-19 was worse sans Doke. They regularly got run

Which really makes you wonder. Two worst teams of the Self era in the last three seasons... If they don't add a guard for next year look out.

We’ll be a very attractive destination on the transfer market. Immediate PT with a really solid group of veterans. We’ll be significantly better.

Still have to get someone though.

It's the main missing piece. We will manage to have "enough" down low next year simply by the numbers Self threw at that.

Of course. First have to be a place where transfers want to go, and we definitely are. Then it’s about identifying the right fit among those in the portal. There will be options aplenty given the likely one time waiver. They’ll shake loose this spring and summer.

We are who? • Jan 23, 2021 07:09 PM

I agree on the covid piece. I also think the talent level is down as a whole, so teams that rely on bringing in OAD type guys every year will really struggle. Perfect example, we all wanted Caleb Love bad. And he’s been pretty awful all year. Shooting only about 30% from the floor. Between the zero off-season and downward trajectory of talent, it’s gonna be rough. What do Baylor and Gonzaga have in common? A lot of experience. Both are basically the same teams they were last year (obviously the Zags added Suggs and Nembhard). We lost our best two guys and didn’t really add much. It’s forced guys into new roles and there isn’t a lot we can do about it now.
