2 upcoming KU home games rescheduled • Jan 23, 2021 05:19 PM

@Kcmatt7 said in 2 upcoming KU home games rescheduled:

@FarmerJayhawk well we are 9th in the league (235th in the nation) in 2pt% so I'm not exactly sure they aren't on to something...

I'd legitimately rather watch this particular team put up 30+ threes a game than watch whatever it is we've called an offense so far this season.

It would be different if you thought that we were just finishing poorly, but capable of finishing in the lane better. We aren't though. This team is shooting as efficiently from 2 as I think they are capable of (unless you start playing big and putting Enaruna and Wilson on the floor together which Bill I believe said he doesn't like to do). So the only way for the offense to even try to compete is to shoot and manufacture more 3s.

My point is we shouldn’t just chuck for chucking’s sake. Our volume is negatively correlated with our % this year. The more we shoot, the worse we shoot it. Have to manufacture good looks.

2 upcoming KU home games rescheduled • Jan 23, 2021 03:49 AM

In looking at the advanced numbers, I’m not sure what benching Garrett gives us. They HATE Harris. Like 10th or worse in PER, win shares, and +/-. I don’t think just firing more 3’s is it either. We’re 4th in the league in 3%. I do think playing more 5 out is good. Harris, Garrett, Braun, Ochai, Wilson. But 5 out in the create mismatches and driving lanes sense, not pass around the perimeter and shoot garbage 3’s for the sake of 3’s sense (regardless of what the geniuses at Rock Chalk/Mid-America Nazarene Blog) tweet on an hourly basis.

The article is right, it’s super gross how Drew both talks trash on every program he recruits against, and guilts players with faith into coming to Baylor because it’s “God’s plan.” Plus he professes a strong faith yet cheats his arse off. Scott Drew is a chode

Time for Dearborn to earn his keep. He’s got 3 freshmen QB’s to coach up this spring. It sounds like Hawley legit might win the job. I think we need one more tackle, but the OL looked a lot better once Meadows was gone. Really interested to see how Grimes does with this unit. If it all comes together we have 4 win kind of upside.

I didn’t hate Marcus driving it. After all, he put us up by getting to the rim. Have to pass out of that though.

All Politicked Out? Election 2020 • Jan 09, 2021 05:23 AM

@approxinfinity said in All Politicked Out? Election 2020:

Without grievance politics the Republicans lose to Hillary. And the courts would consequentially be more liberal. Maybe that was the natural progression of this country in 2016; but instead of evolving with the times, the right decided to hand the reins to an idiot despot ruler who would gladly burn everything down, after Mcconnell's obstructionism forced the Republican party to avoid any compromise with the Democrats since 2014.

And despite every horrible thing Trump's done, for 4 years the Republicans in Washington have stood lock step with Trump.

How can people celebrate Mitch McConnell when it's his BS politics that has exacerbated the toxic partisan extremism we have in Washington today?

Our forefathers feared tyranny of the majority, something that conservatives seem fond to note, and yet, they don't bat and eye when their Senate Majority Leader is all in on promoting a tyranny of the minority, stonewalling any attempts at real politics in Washington.

I’m not sure they do! I’ll probably go to my grave swearing up and down Jeb! beats Hillary. We’ll never know and nobody has evidence either way, but that’s my instinct. I will admit the GOP never dealt with the rising populist tide on the right in an adequate way. I’ll take some blame for that. I saw some troubling signs in the 12 and 14 cycles and kind of brushed them aside since they voted our way and assumed we could keep them at arms length forever. Then Trump came down the escalator and everything changed (to us on the normie right’s horror). The wave we caught to elect people like Lynn Jenkins, Pat Roberts, Kevin Yoder, Joni Ernst, Ben Sasse, et al. pre-16 ended up pulling us under. Now it’s up to us to bring the right back to shore, because this country is more healthy with a vibrant center-right. I still firmly believe in the fusionist project, though I’m on the libertarian side of things. And we’re working on it. Whether it’s through the GOP or not is TBD. I don’t expect any cheers from the left. In fact, I fully expect Lincoln Project and PodBro types to keep saying the fusionist right was always trash and they never believed any of it was different than Trumpism, however defined. Which is fine. That’s their deal.

McConnell took calculated risks. Harry Reid escalated in nuking the filibuster for sub-SCOTUS nominees and passing major legislation through budget reconciliation, moves I’m sure he regrets now. Legislative leaders need to be very careful in the genies they let out of the bottle. It’s a complicated business managing a small majority, as Schumer and Pelosi are about to find out.

I would be intrigued to see a third Senate caucus form. Since it’s 50/50, 10 Senators could control the chamber. Say, Romney, Manchin, Sinema, Collins, Coons, Murkowski, Sasse, Kelly, Portman, Tester if they voted as as bloc on legislation. Could split any way on nominations.

Biden and Vaccines • Jan 09, 2021 04:55 AM

@approxinfinity said in Biden and Vaccines:

Why would we order 200 million more guaranteed [or no payment] vaccines from Pfizer, when we could wait a year longer for companies that worked within the constructs of Trump's Project Warp Speed, so that our Lord and Saviour Trump could claim credit for our Salvation?

Idk but I’m unbelievably happy the major winner in all this rejected the bounds of a typical center-left PPP and went balls to the wall risking its own money and reputation to develop the best vaccine it could in record time. It’s a wonderful thing.

All Politicked Out? Election 2020 • Jan 09, 2021 04:40 AM

@Crimsonorblue22 I wish I could tell you. There’s some deep introspection going on in a lot of places on the right. For a lot of us, we’re vindicated and it feels miserable.

All Politicked Out? Election 2020 • Jan 09, 2021 03:20 AM

A lot of the American right is in a bad place right now, that much is obvious. Its embrace of grievance politics is gross. I miss the days when Mitt and Jeb! were the standard bearers.

The Biden team saying F the FDA and CDC we’re going to get as many people first doses as possible and not hold any supplies back for the second dose is a welcome twist I did not see coming. And a very pleasant surprise. We may kick this thing before summer yet.

But WHY do we have to have "parties"? (which, by the way, our government is no party - that's the one thing I do know)

Why can't we just have men or women run for office based on their qualifications. On their character. On their morals.

Because it's all a show and there are lots of people that really buy into it and are hardcore on one "side". There is only one side, the donor class oligarchs.

Believe me I would LOVE to see some things get done now in regards to medical and climate change but why would the capitalists in charge give up some of their bread?

In Soviet Russia, bread has dirty capitalist! 😂

@nuleafjhawk said in Why can't Mike Pence wear a f---ing mask?:

OK. I'm going to come right out and state the obvious and beat all of you to the point.

I am 100% ignorant when it comes to politics. I know nothing about it. I don't claim to and I really don't want that to change.

But WHY do we have to have "parties"? (which, by the way, our government is no party - that's the one thing I do know)

Why can't we just have men or women run for office based on their qualifications. On their character. On their morals.

I know I'm an idiot, but when I start my own country, that's what I'm implementing. After I give up my Dictatorship.

In short, the coalition instinct. Our system is first past the post and single member districts, so things naturally sort into two parties. It started immediately in the election of 1796 with Federalists (Adams) and Democratic-Republicans (Jefferson). As one party collapsed, another takes its place almost immediately. Whigs replaced the Federalists, Republicans replaced the Whigs. D-R’s eventually split and became just Democrats. Third parties that pop up almost always get absorbed into one of the two major parties. The Teddy Roosevelt Bull Moosers went away and many became progressive D’s boosting FDR’s New Deal.

The other part of it is voter information and ballot access. Voters generally do almost no research whatsoever. It’s all name ID and partisanship. Most voters walk in the booth and vote for their party all the way down. Back in the day of machine politics some voting machines would vote straight ticket for you if you wanted. They even made a certain noise so poll workers could.. uhhh.. monitor the count in real time and make... adjustments. So there’s a lot of brand equity in the parties at this point. Voters understand their side good other side bad and the actual candidates don’t matter all that much. Our system is also set up to where if you want to run, it’s very easy to get on the ballot as a D or R. You just pay the fee or collect a small number of voter signatures. As an independent, you have to collect A LOT of signatures and do all the legwork of explaining who you are to people since they’re so used to not doing any research and just voting D or R. Hope that explains things a bit.

If anyone objects to this and wants him restored let me know. I'm just not in a mood for Trump crazies at the moment. Hes banned until sometime in the mid 24th century atm, but maybe this was a bit too harsh.

Maybe until after Biden is inaugurated?

Also this is a legit question, sorry if it’s dumb. Pence is immune right? So can vaccinated people spread the virus? Not sure how all of it interacts. Been too swamped to dig into all the deets
