Jerry Meyer flipped to KU from OU...

And then there’s this. Why do we associate ourselves with this trash?

What a turn of events we might be witnessing with Bryce. Felt dead in the water for months here. Would say a lot to land a talent like him in the mess going on

Same. I quit asking about Bryce a couple months ago once I heard he was going to stay home and Cade/Todd would end up at Okie Lite. Once the ground started shifting under those two I just figured we wouldn’t be the beneficiary of any of it. But alas, we’re probably getting Bryce.

Though I’ll eat some crow. UK was taking the first of Askew and Cade. Sounds like Okie Lite is the probably destination for him now. RJ Davis kind of took the spot at UNC but we’ll see I suppose. I think it’s either OSU or UK.

Might be fun to play without him Thursday. Get Moss and Braun more minutes.

@Kcmatt7 as has been said by multiple people KU basketball doesn’t need national exposure. They don’t need to play Mizzou. This game is going to do far more for Mizzou basketball then it does for Ku basketball. It will get ESPN game day talking about them giving them exposure that they would not have had without this game.

What does KU the program gain from this??

Mizzou sucks at basketball. So everyone saying it is better than playing XYZ school is it really? This isn’t going to bolster KU resume for the tournament.

I watch every single KU game so I am not going to circle this game. I look forward to playing Duke, UK, Villanova, Sparty, etc... will I watch the game sure like I said I watch all of them.

But what is the downside for KU?

The argument against this game from everyone is that it helps Mizzou.

How does it hurt KU?

We have to associate ourselves with the slavers again. Weakens our strength of schedule since we always play a better team than them at Sprint. It costs a lot of money to disinfect Allen Fieldhouse. And we have to associate ourselves with the slavers again. This is like going back to your desperate ex who ran over your dog and gave you the clap.

Don’t you know MU likes to claim Missouri was really anti-slavery? That the Tigers nickname came from a group abolitionists in or around Columbia — all 10 of them.

I heard MU’s AD say today that those KU crackers be shakin’ now with the border war coming back, or maybe I misunderstood?

My guess is MU fans at every bar in the state are estatic. Meth on the house!

Word is the state legislature in Missouri is disappointed because now they’ll have to actually pay to re-pave I-70 between KC and Columbia.

But the MU fans are wary. Worried that they have, once again, shot themselves in the foot, Stipo style. Or that a camera might catch another athlete in the act — you know, finger in nose, object excised, insert in mouth. What do you use to Chase that? Natty light? Ask Eustachy.

I hear some oppressed rich kid is going to go on a fake hunger strike to protest our appearance at Paige arena even if the cause is fictional. Find a professor to call for some “muscle” to protect him just in case.

One thing though. We know we will never be a game on the way to an MU final four. Over a century of incompetence assures us of that. But each day the coaches drive on Champions Drive. Like naming a street after Casper the friendly ghost. Fictional and lacking substance.

That 1964 indoor track championship remains the shining light for a self proclaimed softball school. And has been the shining light for now for over five decades. Quite an accomplishment to be sure.

MU fled to the SEC because they couldn’t spell BCS if you spotted them the B and the S. Though they’d recognize that scent. Just don’t mention the smell of oranges.

Well done sir! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Probably otherwise something would have leaked.

Had to have the dramatic thread title though. As an aside we would be completely screwed without him. From top 5 clear cut best team in the B12 to a very average team.

Yeah, thanks for that. Almost made me spit out my beer!

@BShark not sure if he's an upgrade since I haven't watched any tape yet but certainly fills that spot. I still wonder how many spots are left. I think Grimm and Pearson are walk ons in year one, will be on scholarship after. Not sure about anyone else. I think we have approximately 21 IC's for 2020 since we pulled a few into 2019 to bolster this year's numbers. Unclear if we'll pull any from 2021.

Kenpom • Oct 22, 2019 09:12 PM

@BShark Good for KU. No reason to not support him. It didn't work out at KU, nothing more than that.

I don't think anyone will ever know what really happened that caused Grimes to underachieve to the degree that he did. I don't think you will find many coaches that would have expected him to underperform that much.

He checked every box, then somehow unchecked every box. I have never seen that before.

Very interested to see how he does at Houston where the conference is a step down athletically.

Guess we'll find out this year. Got his waiver.

I don't live in the state and never lived in KC so I don't have a good feel for the opinion of the fanbase, but I sure would like to have $10,000 to do a poll about it. These are broad generalizations and not aimed at any individual, but my sense is the more diehard fans are opposed and the more casual fans are for the Border War (I refuse to call it the Border "Showdown," that name is stupid). At the end it was so ugly that a lot of fans were happy to see it go on indefinite hiatus.

I've emptied the bag my man!

To @BShark's point, the two biggest "recruits" left on the board are Silvio and Ochai. Harris, Thompson, Ochai, Silvio, McCormack is easily another top 5 team. Even if Silvio goes, we could go small (even though Enaruna is taller than Silvio?) with Wilson or Enaruna at the 4. Could also go the grad transfer route but that seems less likely.

@Texas-Hawk-10 Beaty definitely had enough bodies to play the spring game, because he played the spring game where Michael Cummings got hurt. He was like a fisherman that year, every time he got asked how many players he started with the number went lower. Truth be told he had about 60 on scholarship year 1. About 45 for the spring game. At least that’s what I was told at the time.

But back to the topic at hand, it’s clear now that this program is headed in the right direction. Next two are clearly winnable at home. 4 wins should be considered good progress and we’ll go into next year with a much younger team, real questions at QB, and still questionable depth. 2021 is the targeted breakout year.

I believe we’re at about 25/25/10/10, +/- a couple. Beaty really screwed the pooch in 2018.

Part of the reason it’s tough to finish is we have no bodies. Texas ran 85+ plays and we were done in the 4th. A decent second string buys us enough time to get a stop late and helps block up special teams. Tough when you’re playing with 20% fewer guys than UT.

Keenan Hambrick decommitted. Not a huge loss. I think there was a numbers crunch we wanted him to greyshirt.

I saw that , and we all know there is going to be those de-commits - - it's ok - -saw where there have been other programs asking about him - -that's the way things are with Football - -it was a verbal and until that signature is on the dotted line, it's just the Nature of the game. - -Don't get me wrong I fully understand that you know that -- just saying.

It's just to bad that after a kid announces , that other schools can't respect that decision and back off.

Yet it's just part of the recruiting game. I can just hear other Schools pitches against us and the reasoning they tell these kids NOT to be a part of KU. - Football is: - - why would you want to be a part of such a dumpster fire? - -come to our more established school in football a chance to be seen -: - -Basketball is : - -why would you want to go to a school that is about to be hit hard with sanctions & probation - -and good chance of not even being allowed in the tourney - - - VULTURES that is how it works.

Like you say not a huge loss - -will be more I'm sure , surprised actually hasn't been more already - -it's ok - -hopefully just opens a spot for Clayton lol. - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Honestly... I think we have a pretty good shot at him. It'll take a couple dominos to fall right but KU can get him.

@BShark So a serious question for you and I guess anyone. If all the recruits are getting paid, as theorized, how are we still paying recruits (via Adidas or other third parties)? If not, how do we (and other Adidas schools) get any recruits if other shoecos are paying and not Adidas? Or are other shoecos now not paying?

Nike is definitely still paying (e.g. Scottie Barnes, N’Faly Dante). Adidas too since Washington and Louisville have seen a recent uptick. We’re just not playing in that sandbox. Guys in the area we’re recruiting don’t command that much, so we can compete with that with facilities, coaching, support. From what I gather, we’ve basically exited from Adidas grassroots basketball orbit and are doing things the way they “should” be done.

The good news is Self told him he’s going to fix the NCAA issues. From the kusports.com article below -

As for the looming NCAA allegations against KU, Grant-Foster said he and his family asked about the situation during his visit. What he heard in response from the Kansas coaches put his mind at ease.

“They were totally honest about it,” he said. “Coach Self said he was going to take care of it, and I’m not worried really at all. I just want to hoop.”

That program doesn’t really play freshmen or recruit one and dones. Sounds like your kind of place!
