@Statmachine hope you’re right man. I don’t think anyone knows 100% right now. We’ll all find out tomorrow evening.

Doke too. Everyone but Vick. Doke getting an invite feels like a favor.
Just a sign he's not returning

@BeddieKU23 no problem. This late it’s always fun to post everything I hear just because it’s so chaotic. I so want to see the meltdown if somehow Romeo picks us.
Ok
I heard it was between KU and IU a week or so ago but nobody is saying KU now. The coaches haven’t been informed yet as far as I know, but I’m 99% sure it’s IU.

Sweet that's really been the case for weeks maybe months
Since the family sat down and made the final choice yesterday, that would be not accurate.
I think I’m going to call it. Romeo to IU.

Billy?
I’d want to see Dok too if I was an NBA exec just in case he stays in.
Yeah, Billy got invited.
Color me surprised.
Kansas feels good about landing Romeo. Not clear if they really know, or just like their chances.
Josh Green had 37 today. He’s rising quickly up my wish list. KU is going to need some scoring in 2019, and he gets buckets.
Self watched Bassey and Hurt this morning.
One time KU target Ike Obiagu leaving FSU. Terrific rim protector.
And as we thought, it's going to be a fight with Duke to get Hampton.
The only way we get all 3 is if Silvio leaves. JRE can play the 5 since he’s like 6’10 235 now. Precious is skilled enough to play on the wing but I like him a lot in the Josh Jackson 4 role. Or you can play him at the 3 with Hurt at the 4 interchangeably, like we did with Vick and Svi.
I expect Svi, Devonte, Malik, and Billy to get invited. Vick should start looking for international flights.

Have consistently heard he likes KU- especially Norm. This isn't the type of player we let go to a Uconn or FSU.. This is a top 5 player in his class I think when its all said and done
For sure. Norm is the man up there. It’s early but I like our chances.
I’ve heard some KU chatter lately. Apparently he’s made the decision though.

Not sure KU can land Hurt and Achiuwa but the odds of landing one seem pretty good. Either one puts KU in a good spot.
I’d definitely take a Dotson Hampton Achiuwa Hurt Dante lineup.

Hampton just got offered by Duke
With the expectation he’ll reclassify, which could happen as soon as this summer.
At this point, I’d say it’s more likely than not Hurt and Hampton are part of KU’s 2019 class assuming Grimes goes pro. I can’t see Jacobs going anywhere else unless KU cuts him loose. He wasn’t going to play a ton anyway as a freshman, but can be a good player down the line.
I’ll miss The Shiver too. Hopefully Matt pops up somewhere. I’ve been a member for nearly a decade and sad to see it go. But I’ll keep posting at the new site, though not sure which handle I’ll have. I’ll try to stay KAbbott over there.

@FarmerJayhawk staff prioritizing other bigs over Carey or more he’s not interested?
Some of both. Hurt and JRE have been top targets all along and never put in the work that the rest have.
In other news, KU is out on Vernon Carey. Going to be Duke, MSU, UK, Miami, and UNC.
Self watched Hurt this morning.

Okongwu is almost certainly staying in California. His guy at UCLA just took another job at Cal, so they may get him. Not sure KU is that interested anyway. Lecque is an absolute stud. Love his game. He was originally a 2018 kid but went to 2019 about a year ago. He may come back to 2018, but probably not until late summer. I don't expect KU to really be involved either way. I think they should go after him if we miss on Romeo. Grimes is big enough to play the 3, and Jalen can play the 2. I think Tait is wrong on how big Jalen is too. He's nearly 6'4 now I believe. Isaiah is probably going to Duke. I like Kofi, but he's not really a need. Brown is a small ball 4 man at this stage, probably staying in the South. Hurt is the target there. Josh Green is legit, and KU has a good shot. Was pretty good at the Hoop Summit on the international team (he's Australian).
Yeah, not the best researched article. Didn't even mention Duke in the bit about Cole Anthony and he will probably end up there.
I would be stunned if Okongwu ends up anywhere besides UCLA.
I think he ends up at Cal now that Grace is there.
It's smart for Doke to enter this year. It should be a year+ long process for him. Enter this year, get feedback on what to improve on (rebounding, shot blocking, quickness), dominate on a great KU team next season, then go pro after in a horrid 2019 draft. He can definitely get drafted then, but this year he has no shot. I don't even buy some team will take a flier on him. Probably better off taking an international kid and stashing him rather than paying Doke in the G League. The G League has bad player development too, so it would be smart to develop at KU rather than some basketball backwater like Delaware.

KU watching Cole Anthony. Kid is a stud. He’s about as explicit as it gets in not talking recruiting so nobody knows what he’s thinking. KU probably not going to be a serious player.
RJ Hampton did work last night. 28 points (11-22 2-3 FT 4-8 3 PT) 9 assist 6 TO 8 boards 3 steals

Even if Doke stays in the draft and DeSousa can't play next year, KU would still be fine in the frontcourt. All it does is make KU go back to the 2016 and 2017 versions where Self used a stretch 4. This version would have Lightfoot and KJ Lawson as the stretch 4's with Dedric and McCormack as the low post options.
Maybe not what we thought the frontcourt would be, but that's still a pretty solid frontcourt in a worst case scenario.
Good points all around. It would make Mitch and Dave our 3rd and 4th bigs, and if we miss on Romeo we’d have just 11 guys. Maybe 12 if the mystery man comes. This scenario is why I think it’s smart to go after Bassey, assuming there isn’t anything there that would draw the ire of the NCAA.
UK in on Josh Green. I want him bad if we can’t get Achiwua. Was really impressed with Green at Hoop Summit.
The staff not watching Carey. Methinks it’s because we have other bigs in mind for 19. One rhymes with Lassie and the other with dirt.
Also add Wiseman to the list, since he’s a teammate of Lawson. Not that we have a chance.
@jayballer73 the 18th (when this apparently took place) was in a recruiting period, so it’s totally fine to meet.

@FarmerJayhawk but u said u think hes commiting 2 ku tuat doesnt make sense
They said that. My gut still says IU. Yes, it’s cognitive dissonance. I’m listening to a bunch of stuff out there, which is really common in late recruitments. It’s even possible Romeo changes his mind day by day so info comes out that he’s leaning one way, but he may change his mind. It’s an ebb and flow kind of thing.
Crimsonorblue22 said:
@FarmerJayhawk then why the 65/35 Iu?
Just because a lot in the IU camp feel so certain.
Also, the family may deny the meeting, but I heard this afternoon that Self and the family did make contact while Self was in the area. Another source told me it was to give a commitment.
ReggieKansas said:
@FarmerJayhawk what percent do u say ?
I honestly don’t know. If I had to put numbers on it I’d say something like 65/35 IU but that’s just my gut.
I asked again today and a guy I trust still is saying it’s done to KU.

Really?! Dang. I assume that means it has leaked RL to IU.
IU probably leads but nothing is done.
JayHawkFanToo said:
If he is not invited to the combine chances are he stays; he might get an invite anyway just because KU’s reputation and coaching staff contacts.
Does anyone know when the invitations come out?
Should be really soon since the deadline to enter is about here.
I think he’ll be back. He won’t get a combine invite and most seem to think he needs another year. But I get the allure of being a pro.
Self met with Bassey this week so there has to be some way to get around it. The Langford’s are denying it, so could just be someone assumed Self was in New Albany too when visiting Bassey

Uhhh so the latest rumor is that Self paid Romeo a visit while he was in Louisville yesterday.
Hearing quite credibly that Vandy is pretty much out. KU or IU.
Woodrow said:
Sorry if I missed it, but what are the red flags with Bassey? Just that he is being recruited by WKU and Stansberry?
His guardian is kind of a sketchy character. Rumor is he’s wanted certain things paid for relating to Charles. I’m sure KU will look into it.
JayHawkFanToo said:
Given that Silvio/guardian is/are directly named in the FBI investigation, what do you think are the chances he plays next season or he is declared ineligible by the NCAA and he is gone?
I’m assuming he plays until someone tells me differently. Guys named in a document dump last spring were cleared in like an hour.

There’s a connection with WKU and his guardian (Bassey is Nigerian) so he’ll be tough to land. Definitely need to check up on the guardian though.
I would figure if Self is getting involved that they think they can pull him/are willing to do what it takes. I also think it would almost have to be for 18.
I think it depends on Silvio either year. The 5 isn’t locked down for 2019 yet (if there’s issues with Silvio) and Bassey is the best option out there.
Dante would be my choice in 19.
If he reclassifies. Not a done deal by any stretch. If Bassey wants to come to KU, you say yes immediately and worry about Dante later.
