Draft Declarations Thread • Apr 06, 2018 05:23 PM

FWIW, Sam Vecenie told me to expect Doke to declare without an agent and go through the process.

@BShark I’m sticking to my guns that we’re getting Hurt and JRE in 19. Dante also a possibility if he wants to reclassify.

2019 Recruiting • Apr 06, 2018 05:11 PM

Heard today the Hurts are really looking at PG situations for a school and definitely not set on being OAD. They really want the second pro contract.

Red shirted players are still on scholarship anyway. So it's up to Agbaji if he is sure he wants to be around 5 years.

I think he should a la Landen. Landen knew he’d average under 5 MPG his true freshman year so he decided to trade a year of playing and it worked out great for everyone. Ochai will be 4th on the depth chart at the 3 behind Vick/Langford, Garrett, and Cunliffe. He can be a really good player years 3-5 like Landen was.

Probably Going to Move On From Zach Harvey • Apr 05, 2018 09:30 PM

Sounds like malpractice from the prosecutor as well. He was charged last year but there haven’t been any proceedings so far.

Probably Going to Move On From Zach Harvey • Apr 05, 2018 09:19 PM

@BShark for sure. Good thing smart phones weren’t around when I was that age, or this kind of thing would’ve gotten us all busted. Guessing he’ll plead it down significantly.

Probably Going to Move On From Zach Harvey • Apr 05, 2018 09:13 PM

I hate these cases. Sounds like his girlfriend just sent him a nude photo, he kept it, and now it’s child porn. I know it’s the law, but I feel for the kid.

2019 Recruiting • Apr 05, 2018 05:33 PM

@BeddieKU23 yep. I think JRE pops officially next fall.

2019 Recruiting • Apr 05, 2018 03:40 PM

Self meeting with Hurt tomorrow.

@FarmerJayhawk No I mean I'm surprised he played in college. I was thinking he might go the Mudiay/TFerg route and play somewhere else for a year and get paid.

Ah gotcha. I was too. I figured he’d go with the UA to Australia pipeline.

Draft Declarations Thread • Apr 05, 2018 12:27 AM

BShark said:

@FarmerJayhawk Quite frankly I was surprised he did.

Really? He was always a guy who was gone no matter what. It was Duke or overseas for him. Kid wants paid.

Duke's Trevon Duval declares for NBA Draft @AdamZagoria

No shocker there. He didn’t really want to play college ball anyway.

Doke • Apr 04, 2018 02:12 AM

@Statmachine I’ll FB Live it or something then 😂.

Doke • Apr 04, 2018 01:31 AM

If any of our guys but Devonte go in the first I’ll eat my shoes. Love them, but we didn’t have NBA talent this year.

Langford • Apr 02, 2018 10:53 PM

Romeo probably won’t announce before the deadline to declare. If Vick and/or Newman declare, then it’s all clear for Romeo. And Romeo’s commitment makes it less likely either return.

Doke • Apr 02, 2018 09:43 PM

Doke is almost certainly going to declare and go through the process, as he should. I for one am interested in how he checks out athletically if he’s healthy.

I also really, really want him back. He just makes the roster fit together. I love Silvio, but I don’t really want to lean on him for 25 MPG, and I’d rather not have Dave the 4th big. With another summer of Hudy, Doke can get in even better shape and the coaches will have plenty of time to coach him up. Remember, he didn’t get the entire summer last year because of his injury, which is part of his FT struggle. With a full summer, he can get to be a 55-60% shooter, which is enough to keep teams honest. With the added depth, he can be aggressive in rebounding and blocking shots. Dedric is elite at those as well, so we’re going to be a feared defensive team again.

2018-2019 Grad & Sitout Transfer Thread • Mar 30, 2018 04:51 PM

I think it’s a product of the 2018 class not being very good. Programs don’t want to be tied to a player they don’t love just because they have to fill a hole. Better to go after the better 2019 kids with open scholarships.

Langford • Mar 29, 2018 07:00 PM

A guy in the know told me Langford is done to KU, barring both Newman and Vick returning. 👀

McDonald's All American Week Events • Mar 29, 2018 06:11 PM

@BShark it’ll be interesting how UK handles all the guards they’re going to have. They offered Hagans, who’s basically a lock there once he reclasses. I could see Quade leaving since he’s not getting as much PT next season.

McDonald's All American Week Events • Mar 29, 2018 12:15 AM

Romeo has been really good. His skill set really fits these games. But the game itself has sucked. Can’t wait for the Hoop Summit where these guys really get after it.

Langford • Mar 28, 2018 10:45 PM

@BShark Jalen Brunson 😂

2019 Recruiting • Mar 27, 2018 06:50 PM

This is BIG if RJ Hampton jumps to 2019.

2019 Recruiting • Mar 27, 2018 04:24 PM

Big development in our 2019 plans. Jeff Capel took the Pitt job. Look for names like Vernon Carey and Cole Anthony to be more open now.

Dotson might too though! HOPS! Both of them! I'd love to get Langford and just completely out-athlete people next season.

On paper we need Langford to compete with Duke's All-Star lineup next season. Jones, Barrett, Reddish, Zion.. Whoever trots out at the 5

We’ll be good. They’re going to put a soft 5 on Doke. Have fun with that. Our frontline is going to me miles ahead of theirs.

2018-2019 Grad & Sitout Transfer Thread • Mar 19, 2018 03:58 PM

@mayjay yeah, South Carolina won’t. Or probably any legit program. Once they find out what he did, the publicity just isn’t worth it. Remember all the flack Baylor got for admitting the rapist from Boise?

2018-2019 Grad & Sitout Transfer Thread • Mar 19, 2018 03:56 PM

@BShark oh I get that. I just live among them. Their little bro complex makes KSU’s look like a mild disagreement.

2018-2019 Grad & Sitout Transfer Thread • Mar 19, 2018 02:51 PM

Dear lord State fans are the most paranoid out there. The Felton thing was open and shut. The university did its work and gave him the boot. Felton will likely land at a JuCo or some no name program desperate for any talent. No program should go near him. Kid is a real piece of work.

Langford • Mar 18, 2018 04:13 AM

Unfortunately New Albany lost tonight so now Langford will focus on recruiting and all star games.

Seton Hall • Mar 16, 2018 03:55 AM

FWIW, KenPom has KU a 2:1 favorite.

Seton Hall • Mar 16, 2018 03:38 AM

We’ll be fine. Seton Hall is A LOT like A&M, who we beat fairly comfortably. If we shoot it and guard ok, we’ll win by 10+.

2018-2019 Grad & Sitout Transfer Thread • Mar 16, 2018 02:34 AM

@BShark great piece to compete with Garrett for the 3 spot.

2018-2019 Grad & Sitout Transfer Thread • Mar 16, 2018 02:27 AM

We haven’t reached out since he was just announced today but KU will be active in the grad transfer market if they have a spot available and there’s a guy that fits a need.

One to keep an eye on if we miss on Romeo... https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/ryan-taylor-2.html ↗

Ok lets see what I can hear • Mar 14, 2018 01:32 AM

Without question. He’s recruiting better these days, and could land legit kids at KU. It’s like saying you wouldn’t want Woody Hayes because he loved running the football and playing defense.

Bill Self to Coach 2018 Team USA U18 • Mar 13, 2018 04:12 PM

Langford and Grimes are also eligible. Count on Self and Danny taking the opposite approach of Cal last summer. They’re going to put the best team together, not the one with recruits he wants to sign. Those may be the same, maybe not. Depends who wants to try out.

2019 Recruiting • Mar 12, 2018 08:06 PM

@BShark watch for him to flip from UK once Penny Hardaway gets the Memphis job. Wiseman may also reclass up to join him. Only way Wiseman goes to 2018 IMO. His mom would like him to stay home, or wait to leave until 2019.

Newman- will he stay or will he go? • Mar 12, 2018 08:02 PM

I don't expect Malik back unless we miss on Romeo. Then arrangements can be made to keep Malik around. Other than Doke, he's the guy I want to return the most. I think he can play some point to audition for the pros. I don't think he'll ever be a NBA player. He's just not physically gifted enough. But could carve out a nice career overseas if he chooses.

2019 Recruiting • Mar 09, 2018 04:37 PM

@BeddieKU23 my guess is mid-April. We (and Romeo) will have a much better idea of what all 3 rosters will look like heading into next season, and what kind of role he’d have on each team. Still think KU if Vick (and probably Malik) leave.

Ideal scenario for me is still Vick and Cunliffe depart, we land Romeo, and Malik stays to run some point, add some experience, and be our best shooter.

2019 Recruiting • Mar 07, 2018 12:09 PM

@BeddieKU23 yeah, all but the ones currently on KU’s roster.

2019 Recruiting • Mar 07, 2018 03:09 AM

Lots of smoke out there that Memphis is going to bite the bullet and buy Tubby out to hire Penny Hardaway as HC. If so, look for his entire squad at Memphis East to follow him. That’s the entire Lawson clan, plus #1 prospect James Wiseman.

DG/Newman/Svi/Silvio/Doke • Mar 06, 2018 04:36 AM

If it’s OU, I’d start Silvio in a heartbeat. He played his best game against them at AFH, and could use the reps.

Recruiting Thread • Mar 03, 2018 06:49 PM

@BShark could he Dedric. Doke is going to have a monster year, probably not unlike Okafor for Duke that year. Dedric’s skill level allows him to do a bunch of things, almost all of which get buckets. Adding Langford would just make us silly.

Recruiting Thread • Mar 03, 2018 06:36 PM

@mayjay absolutely. If Vick and Newman leave and we miss on Romeo, he’ll start at the 3. It actually wouldn’t surprise me to see him start initially even if we have Romeo, a la Svi over Oubre in 2014.

People are sleeping on Marcus Garrett next season. Look for him to be the 6th man and designated stopper on any and all perimeter guys. Plus another summer with Hudy and the coaches on his shot. He’s going to be a beast.

Jalek Felton Leaving UNC • Mar 02, 2018 02:09 AM

That may be the only place that takes him. Word around here is it was very, very bad.

2019 Recruiting • Mar 02, 2018 01:57 AM

Can you imagine? Dotson/Grimes/Achiwua/Hurt/Dante? Good lord

2019 Recruiting • Mar 02, 2018 12:22 AM

Hurt and Dante frontcourt? I’ll take it.

2019 Recruiting • Mar 01, 2018 11:28 PM

Matt Scott saying Dante (2020 center from Sunrise) could reclass to 2019. Mercy let’s hope so. He’d vault right to #1 on our board, and would be the best replacement for Udoka
