Assuming the conference does not ban him for dirty play. I imagine the other conference schools are not very happy with him and there is no love lost between Duke and the rest of the conference.
WSU to the Big East? No way. Does Bob Lutz realize that all the schools in the Big East are private Catholic schools (except Butler which is private but non-denominational)? Wichita State just does not fit at all the Big East mold and there is a much better chance it would take schools like Dayton or Saint Joseph which are primarily basketball schools before they even consider WSU. I roll my eyes when so-called journalists don't do their home work and just spout non-sense.
4 ACC teams in the top 8...at least we know this the real Dickie V and not an impostor.
Now you are changing the premise of the discussion. The issue was why Cummings, a player with a degree and no pro prospects. did not come back for a potential 5th year. I posed a logical, common sense argument why and you seem bound and determined to prove me wrong. Let's just agree to disagree and leave it at that.
Dude, obviously you did not get the memo. Scheduling is all bout money and RPI.
Coach Self explained before how KU has an individual that does the scheduling and it is all geared up to increasing the RPI in order to get a better seeding in the NCAA and he has done a remarkable job. He also explained how much more KU makes by playing at home versus playing a true away game. At home each basketball game nets the program at least $600k while a road game cost the school money since it has to pay all of it expenses and gets no revenue. Games in places such as Hawaii cost the school a lot of money but they derive benefits such as exposure and recruiting advantages. Games in neutral site pay money but not nearly as much as as home game. KU pays smaller schools to come play at AFH, and for smaller programs such as Washburn, Fort Hayes and Pittsburgh it is a huge boost to their meager budgets; the teams not only get to play in the Cathedral of Basketball but leave with a nice check to boot.
In short KU makes a lot of money playing at home and loses money playing on the road. Calipari has stated numerous times that he wants to play elite programs if not at Rupp then at Neutral site such Indianapolis where he gets a big check and does not risk having his team lose at home. and break his streak.
I respectfully disagree; his durability is a huge unknown. He did not play even a full season in college because of injuries and he has not played for 2 years in the NBA because of the same recurring injuries. He has played limited minutes in a half dozen games which h is not enough, at least at this time, to offset all the time he has missed because of said injuries. Remember Oden? Every time he came back they said it would be for good but unfortunately for him it did not worked out that way. Until Embiid strings together a couple of full seasons without issues, the question will always be there and justifiably so.
Valid points, No argument from me.
The networks had no choice about paying. A contract is in place the obligates them to pay $25M for every new team that joins the conference. They made an offer to buy themselves out of that clause and the conference apparently agreed.
I guess I am in the minority that thinks 10 schools is the ideal number for a conference. The Big 12 has been declared dead many time in the last few years and yet it continues to not only be alive but to thrive and do very well financially. All the conference basketball coaches I have heard recently including Self, Huggins and Kruger have all indicated their preference for a ten school conference. Something to think about.
He is finally being noticed nationally as a superior player...of course, we have known this for a while.
Let me see...common sense?
Let me ask you this question...if you have your degree, zero pro prospects, have no desire to get a Master's degree or one does not help your career and you have one year of eligibility left, would you come back to play at KU, knowing that you will win maybe 1 or 2 games and be trashed in most of the rest of the games? Would you put yourself through another year of not making money, getting up early, practicing hard to get playing time, attending classes and being expected to maintain a good GPA in classes you have no interest in with zero hope of post season play...or would you choose to get your career started with your new degree? I don't care how much you love the game, I honestly believe you would go with the second option; it is really a no brainer.
You mean a "hepcat"?
As much as we like Embiid and we would like him to succeed, he still is an unknown quantity. No question the talent and potential are there, the question is durability. Remember ol' man Oden? When healthy he was very good...but he never really could stay healthy for long.
The Sixers have accumulated a number of high value but redundant players; they need to start trading the duplicate talent for players that will fill the huge void they have, i,e. PG.
I still think ten schools is the ideal number for a conference. Financially, the Big 12 has been doing very well with the current membership.
The school presidents and ADs are meeting tonight and tomorrow to make a decision on conference expansion. From what I read, the TV networks are willing to buy out the increase in money clause for additional teams. My guess is the conference either postpones the decision or elects to stay at 10 member schools.
Pretty sad. All that potential ruined by a greedy family that wanted to cash in early. Maybe Cliff can bide his time in the D League and hopefully get a second chance.
Your guess is wrong. I played varsity sports in college and continued to play after I was done with school. However, I did not play football which is a completely different and unique issue. Players are leaving college football early because of the potential health effects of the sport, even professional players are cutting careers short.
I cannot think of another sport in which the athletes take the beating football players do. Like I said, I cannot imagine a player with a degree and no pro prospects coming back for an extra year, particularly to a hapless program like KU.
Dude has a huge pair...
Knowing what we know about the toll football takes, why would any one play a second longer than needed. I could see a player staying an extra year with a team with a shot to the title, in which case he would be a pro prospect anyway, but at KU? I just don't think so.
WTH Marcus...remember FOE and JoJo is family.
Well...he might have traded fat for musle which would make him leaner and faster.
If you have your degree, no desire to get a Masters and no hope of making it to the NFL...why would you stay an extra year?
I don't get why they are complaining; didn't they just upgrade the barns for their top ranked animal husbandry department?
FWIW, the conference coaches picked KSU to finish 9th.
Perry will be sorely missed, not only for his basketball skills, but also for the quiet and steady leadership he provided on and off the court.
I have Lightfoot as my surprise player, I believe he might end up being a more athletic version of Ellis.
Watch Volley Ball, the girls are great...and they play very well to boot. Laughing emoji goes here...
Looks like Wiggins is pretty secure with the Wolves and unlike they would let him go. From what I read, Embiid and Simons are seen as the future and if Embiid has a god season, Okafor and Neil would expendable and used to get the top tier PG the sorely need. Wouldn't it be great if the 76ers keep the #1 KU player and dispose of the #1 picks from U.K. And Duke?
At this time and based on the projected starters, Mason, Graham, Jackson, Bragg and Lucas, the lineup is solid at every position with the only unknown being the 4. We have seen only glimpses of what Bragg can do but the question is how much has he developed and can he stay out of foul trouble? He will be replacing the very capable and oportunistic rebounder that was Perry. If Bragg and Lightfoot develop as expected, it could be a solid position but the jury is still out.
Based on what we have seen, the best and most likely lineup is: Mason, Graham, Jackson, Bragg and Lucas. Looking at how Lucas finished last season, I just don't see him not starting. The lineup might change as the season goes by but I would put money that this is the lineup at the start of the season.
...
The area around AFH and the new Basketball housing building will be developed into the William Self Entertainment district with the Grand Boulevard leading to AFH will be named the Bill Self Blvd.
Not sure there will be any tickets left by the time the priority groups get first choice....
I understand Doc Rivers suggested he did that.
I believe the UK game at Rupp will be much tougher than the Duke game at MSG considering that Giles might not be available.. If KU beat Indiana, Duke and Kentucky, it has a very good chance of going undefeated since it will have beat the pre-season #1, #2 and #12 teams.
I think KU will lose one of the 3 games I mentioned above, most likely Kentucky.
Lose 2-3 games in conference and still win the conference going away. Maybe 1 in the conference Tournament just to get the loss out of the way. Win the NCAA.
Was there a HRC2016 by any chance?
I believe Vick could play 3 in a pinch. Also, I would not be surprised to see Lightfoot play some 3; he likes to bang inside but he also has a decent outside touch. I wish Ellis would have started playing the 3 earlier but unfortunately KU did not have many options at the 4, this year KU is deeper at the 4 and Lightfoot could well play some 3.
Vick will be a very nice surprise. Even Fraschilla seems impressed ↗...
Wel...that explains the thousands of fake members we had.
Apparently they took the emojis too...
You have entered the twilight zone...
So...who let Hillary in this Forum and what is her handle?
That was blast from the past.
Interesting article ↗not quite one year old that proves that the grass always seems greener on the other side of the fence...some posters might actually have a conniption...
Tulsa knew of his problems in Florida and apparently knew of the problems at MUs as well and they still hired him; they only have themselves to blame. Anderson seems to be decent guy although I am not sure he was ready to take over a major program...if you can call MU that. Amazing how Haith stays one step ahead of the law and seems to land on his feet every time...he must have taken the squid's on line class... :D
Skal is already off the list on a couple of mock drafts. At this point I would have to think he is coming back for at least one year.
Interesting note. I was partially watching the San Antonio Cleveland game while keeping my dad company at the hospital and at the end of the third quarter Sager was interviewing Popovich... ↗
I would love to see Coach Self go "full Popovich" on a reporter that asks dumb questions....
You gotta tell me that? I already know that stuff...What is the question....I'll ask them nicely to commit less turnovers...how is that...what the hell do you want me to do?...Classic!!!
So, they forfeit what...a few games per year and they are banned from conference tournament where they will get spanked and the NCAA that they have no chance of going anyway? Why even bother? Missouri has been irrelevant in basketball since it left the conference...and to think they passed on Bill Self? Just for that they deserve everything they have coming... :D
So, in order to be a "good" KU fan I have to lose sense of reality and state that KU is going to win every game including road games in the toughest conference in college basketball? That is not being a good fan, that is being delusional. Yes, my heart tells me that KU is going to win every time but my head knows better...your should try it sometime.
I posted earlier that 5-4 on the road might win the conference...some other poster thought I was dead wrong...hhhmmm...maybe not that wrong after all... :(
The Missouri football team called....they said they can demand anything they want including the School President's job...and get it...different times...
It happens ↗more often than you think...
That might have been true a few years ago but the money is drying up everywhere...and Russian billionaires are being more careful with their billions since Putin can take them away at any time...
...and if the traps don't work the C5 could end up having banner day...
