I would not underestimate KSU, they have a knack for winning ta AFH and when KU is ranked high and they are not expected to compete; they are playing well with nothing to lose. I can see a 20+ win or a game that goes down to the wire...I am always leery of this type of games.
I posted this in another thread...
Maybe Frankamp's problem is more serious than we thought. Police reports that his blood-alcohol content was over twice the legal limit ↗. An individual not used to drinking would have a serious physical impairment ↗ and have trouble geting in the car, let alone driving, unless he has developed a tolerance to alcohol. Perhaps more to the story than we know.

ISU played great for 3/4 of the game and then collapsed. Texas score 47 points in 11 minutes and 24 points in the last 3:13 minutes...if I had not seen it, I would not believe it. ISU had a 14 point lead with just over 3 minutes left and came within a whisker of losing the game. No lead is safe in the Big 12 (remember Oklahoma?).
ISU has a very short bench. 7 players took 195 of the 200 minutes available; the 5 starters played 160 minutes. McKay, the sixth man played 25 minutes and Nader and Thomas 12 and 5 minutes respectively. Physically wear them u in the first half and run away in the second.
Wow...that was a wild finish...
Very clever...and very true. ROTFLMAO :)
The first time I stepped on an NBA court I became a businessman. - LeBron James
ESPN Bracketology now has 8 conference teams in the dance...
Texas already has 3 loses, if they lose tonight, it pretty much takes them out of contention.
I feel bad for Conner. He had a lifelong dream to be a Jayhawk and contribute to the team; it is really too bad it did not work out for him.. While at KU, he was a a good student and teammate and I hope things work out for him on the court...and in Court.
Anyone that served honorably in the military has my respect and heartfelt gratitude.
I agree. One game at a time is the answer; ISU took Tech for granted and lost. I paid for a lot of my beer in college shooting pool and getting opponents to concentrate on the next ball while missing the ball at hand.
Wow, you are really getting personal now.
I was going to post a long, detailed reply...but what good will it do? I will not change how you think or the condescending tone of your posts, so I will take the high road and not waste your time or more importantly mine and not bore to the death the other forum members, and as a bonus, I will not get my hand slapped by @approxinfinity. :)
They were not only pretty but timely as well. His first 3 was when UT was ahead 11-2 and got KU started. He then hit 2 FTs to put KU ahead 38-37, and his second three stopped UT's momentum by tying the score at 44 and starting KU's run that put the game away; Texas never lead after that.
I disagree...but then, it would not be Monday if we did not. The shots that KU missed inside were called "bunnies" by everybody that covered the game, both during and after the game; maybe you need a refresher on what a "bunny" ↗ is. In any case, this is the type of shot that, guarded or not, Perry and Traylor converted at a high clip during the season (Perry 54.9%, Traylor 67.4%, Black 69.2%) but at the Stanford game (38.4%) they were close to one half their average. For the game Stanford shot 44.7% which was right on its season average of 45.9% while KU shot 32.8% which was way below its season average of 49,.3%.
As far as Stanford missing 3 points, this is from the ESPN Recap after the game:
"We can make 3s but that's not what we rely on," Dawkins said. "I didn't even notice it because that's not what we've been."
On the other hand, KU had solid paint game, both scoring and percentage wise but played well below par and it clearly showed. KU just had a bad shooting day, aprticularly in the paint, while Stanford played at its usual level. BTW, Coach Self did not take a single shot that day, so you can't really blame that on him. According to you:
When KU loses:
- It's Perry's fault. Check
- It's Selden's Fault. Check
- Jamari should not be playing Division I basketball. Check
- Coach Self did not follow game plan as outlined by HEM at KUBuckets, so it's most of all Coach Self's fault. Check
When KU wins:
- The other team played poorly. Check
- The other team was over matched. Check
- KU got lucky. Check
- The other coach is worse than Self. Check
- It is hard even for Coach Self to lose at AFH. Check
- Don't know how in the world KU won on the road but it is not because of Coach Self's game plan. Check
- Coach Self spent hours reading KUBuckets and followed HEM's advice. Check
Nothing new here people. Move along.
"creeping" being the operative word. :)
Coach K has run a consistently good programs for a long. long time. This is hard to do, particularly when you also run a clean program at at school with high admission requirements. His contribution to the USA National teams has also been big.
I know at times, and as rival, we don't like him much, but you cannot question his coaching acumen or success.
Congrats Coach "K," enjoy the record until one William Self breaks it.
I am not particularly impressed with BGL either. Maybe we can ship them both somewhere as a package deal?
Don't forget that Mizzou passed on Self and went with Snyder instead...their loss our gain.
I thought we just didn't come ready to play Stanford. We didn't bring the energy.
But...do you think Wiggins was the reason we lost the Stanford game? I certainly do not.
Last night, the ESPN site had the highlights of the KU game at the top of the page of every conference schedule displayed; regardless of what page I went, there it was...maybe targeted programming?
Really nice post. We don't hear much about the players families and your post was a great introduction to them.
While I understand that the top 68 teams do not make it to the NCAA (too many automatic qualifiers in my opinion), assuming that they did, don't you think that all 10 Big 12 teams would be in? MAybe the last two would be towards the bottom but you can make a solid case for the top 8. Seven are curently project by the different "bracketologists" and KSU is not even one of them, although I expect this to change in the next go around in view of the kitties decent recent play.
As far as the Dana O'Neil article, I read it last night and it is fraught with selective statistics to make her point. A fairly biased article in my opinion, and one that shows a lazy reporter that did not do his/her job.
...and I still hate Zenger.
Spot on on Selden. He has not scored much lately but his points seem to come at critical points in the game and are momentum builders.
I always say that basketball is all about match ups and unfortunately KU did not match up well with Stanford, in the same way that we don't match up well with ISU...and it is big problem, not only for KU, but for many other elite teams (ask Duke) in March as well.
The back-court difference between last season and this season is HUGE!
I agree with you 100%. We are the Home of the Free BECAUSE of the Brave.
KU basketball gets plenty of exposure so it does not really need it like WSU does. On the other hand, didn't Zenger sold us out for more exposure for the lesser programs at KU?
I watched the Texas-WVU game and between Felix and Taylor they ripped Huggy's full court press a new one, and after they broke the full court press, they had easy basket and the Texas bigs had a field day inside; Texas won by 27. Mason and Graham are even better than the Texas back-court and I don't see much of a problem with WVU if KU uses a similar game plan.
Sure, the program (not the players) can get money and probably it is getting some, plus the exposure, particularly if it reflects favorably and it is not a hatchet job, can be huge and help a great deal in recruiting. KU gets "paid" by TW for all the programming about the sports programs at KU...maybe WSU will follow KU lead and black out Showtime in Wichita. :(
So, you are basing your entire opinion on Wiggins on the Stanford game? I sure would hate to be judged for the occasional bad day or two I have at the office and not for all the other outstanding ones. BTW, Wiggins did not cost KU the Stanford game, paint play did. These are the paint numbers
Stanford Game:
- Perry 3-10, 9 points, 8 rebounds. 2 fouls in 26 minutes
- Traylor 1-8, 3 points, 5 rebounds, 3 fouls in 25 minutes
- Black 6-8, 12 points, 5 rebounds, 5 fouls in 23 minutes
Combined 10-26 (38,4%), 24 points 18 rebounds in 74 minutes.
And most of those misses were what is commonly referred as "bunnies" i.e. shots with a couple of feet of the basket. In comparison, these are the numbers for the previous game:
- Perry 6-11, 14 points, 13 rebounds, 2 fouls in 34 minutes
- Traylor 7-8, 17 points, 14 rebounds, 2 fouls in 22 minutes
- Black 6-8, 16 point, 6 rebounds, 3 fouls in 26 minutes
Combined 19-27 (70.4%), 47 points, 33 rebounds in 82 minutes.
Can you see where the problem was? KU's bigs did not match up with Stanford height and bulk inside and once Tarik fouled out KU had no inside game. It did not make any difference how well Stanford played Wiggins, if KU bigs played anywhere near their season averages, this games is not even close; had they made just 2 of the many bunnies they missed, KU wins.
You think we would have been a better team offensively without Wiggins? Didn't he lead the team in scoring? Didn't he broke Danny Manning's freshman scoring record? Only Embiid and Ellis (yes, that Ellis) averaged more rebound than Wiggins and only Tharpe, Selden and Mason (all of them primary ball distributors) averaged more assists than him...and you think that Coach Self is on drugs :) ...but then, you also think that Ellis should be on the bench, so I (we) have to take your comments in context. :smirk:
They must be pretty good and exiting, after all Ken Pomeroy has them ranked 2 spots above KU...that is correct, Ken Pomeroy believes than Wichita State is better than KU. Of course Pomeroy is the only one out of 40 computer ranking systems that has WSU ahead of KU...but anyone that follows the rating knows that Ken Pomeroy's system is...well... FUBAR!
On the other hand, good for WSU and good publicity (hopefully) for the state. KU had the Wilt movie last year and have a ESPN "game day" coming and despite Zenger's efforts, constant great national exposure, WSU now has a TV show...and now, if can get a remake of Liberace we can get all state's teams covered.
KU is 16-3, 5-1 in conference while OU 12-7 and 3-4 in conference and they are now just one spot below KU. No other team on KenPoms Top 25 has 6 loses let alone 7...KenPom's system is broken.
I respectfully disagree on ISU. I believe it is a very good team that has been ranked all season long and arguably, the best shooting team in the conference; perhaps not a top 5 but maybe a borderline top 10 team. IMHO, ISU is one of the top 3 teams in the Big 12, the top rated conference. If you think they are over-rated, other than KU, would you say is better than ISU in the conference?
They are not only good and well coached but more importantly, they match up well with KU and gimmicks or not they beat KU in Ames and they are the one team that can beat KU in Lawrence as well.
Yep. I think is time to put the laptop away for the day.
OU loses at Baylor...if that does not drop OU then I don't know what will.
No other team in the top 25 other than OU with 6 loses!!!
Bottoms up?...or maybe better just sip it slowly and savor it. much like the game earlier.
I bet Seth Greenberg wishes he would had not picked Texas after KU, "a team that pounds it inside," took them apart..
No prob, sis...
...like a purple headed step child?
You know he thinks that losing a close game is more valuable than winning close one; Al Gore of course disagrees...and George "Dubya" is ROTFLHAO
Are we there yet? Are we there yet? :)
Who is riding shotgun? KSU? :)
When KU played UK, it had played 1official game (UCSB) and 2 exhibition games. UK had played 8 games, 6 of them against National Teams and professional Euro teams plus 2 exhibition games and had a lot of games to get it act together, KU players were just starting to know each other...the level of experience was not even close and it showed.
Yes, the loser has 4 conference loses and KU already won in Waco.
No question that the Big 12 is the best conference top to bottom. Having said that, can anyone had imagined a better outcome, for KU that is, than what we have so far?
Do 4 loses at this stage (less than half the games in) pretty much rule you out from contention? Maybe not but is drop the odds quite a bit.
