Lopez at center, Kuzma at PF, LeBron and Leonard at G/SF and Ball/Thomas at PG is not a bad starting team with Randle, Caldwell-Pope, Clarkson and Stephenson off the bench. Add Boogie to the mix and you have a real contender.
Daddy Ball's Junior Basketball Association seems to be a failure so far, attracting audiences only in the hundreds, which likely is costing him money. He will not go away until he ruins all of his kids careers.
Japan ahead of Belgium 2-1. Germany, Spain and Italy (did not even make it to the Cup) the 3 more recent champion and powerhouses from Western Europe already out as well as Current European champion Portugal; only France has advanced so far.
Belgium ties Japan 2-2 with 15 minutes left...
I agree. KU journalism students should be able to do the programming and the school's TV station can do all the broadcasting and make the stream available on the internet. The contract was yet another sweetheart deal that made no sense.
The only time you blackout broadcasts is so they will not compete with the live gate; however, all KU basketball games are sold out so you would want to maximize audience and profit and this contract did neither.
As I understand, KU got no money, only programming-in-kind (supposedly worth millions) that featured primarily various lesser sports whose only audience was the athletes themselves and their families and friends.
I am not sure. I believe the black out was to not compete with Metro Sports but now that it is either shutting down or changing the focus of coverage maybe the ESPN 3 blackout is lifted. However, if the contract is still in place and Spectrum sports does not waive its rights the blackout might still be around. Remember that Metro Sports did not pay KU any money but provided programming-in-kind instead. What a lousy contract but then, KU appeared to have been in the mood of giving away money through ridiculous contracts.
Daddy Ball made some comments about LeBron kids and he was not happy about it. Who would want to have that clown around creating problems? The Lakers already told him he cannot do interviews after games at the arena and need to stop commenting on the coaching. The Lakers also passed on signing LiAngelo for the Summer League team, something Daddy ball had indicated was a must. Looks like the Lakers have been looking for an excuse to trade Lonzo and now they have one but who will want to take him considering that daddy Ball becomes part of the deal?
The Jayhawk Network ↗ official broadcaster is Spectrum Sports Kansas City, formerly;y known as Metro Sports and if your cable provider had a subscription you got those early games. You could also get them on ESPN3 but the entire State of Kansas and the KC greater Metro Are were blacked out. Now that Spectrum Sports appears to be ready to go out of business it is unknown who will broadcasts these games and I will guess nothing will be resolved until the new AD is in place.
Luckily, the majority of basketball games are either on ESPN or major network.
They would likely make more money from even a small contract with a local TV station.
One year stopgap contract until they do the bulk of rebuilding next summer. Stephenson and James don’t like each other which means Sir Lancelot will be gone.
In the early 80s I had an opportunity to move to Seattle which at the time was a cool but rainy town. Looks like now it has just gone so extreme that some acquaintances have recently moved back to the MidWest. How do you like it there?
The perfect storm at Wichita appears to be over. It got them to a better conference but now it is back to a long spell of being just another team.
Considering that LeBron signed a “lifetime” contract with Nike in 2016 considered to be the biggest ever awarded by Nike and worth over $1B, the answer is no...and you can do your own research.
The Lakers had a lot of dead weight players that were waived and the guaranteed contracts, not including LeBron, is only $39M for the upcoming season and includes Deng (who only played 1 game) but not Lopez at around $22M. Kuzma is a real bargain at under $2 per season for the next 2 seasons.
The next question is whether Ball stays or goes. It was reported before that LeBron’s people wanted Ball gone, not as much for the kid but because of his loud mouth dad...I can understand this.
...the kid he is just trying to expose himself to better competition...
Maybe Baylor would be a better option?
The Lakers are still one year away and LeBron understood this so he signed a 4 year contract because success will not happen right away. Several free agent will be available next Summer including Klay Thompson and by then the Lakers will get rid of the large contracts of Deng and Randle that are using a lot of cap space.

So...is LeBron the angel or the demon...
Not really big news. I predicted that he would end up in LA a while back; it was the logical destination. The big question really is who is the other big name they will sign to play with him? George indicated he is re-signing with OKC so that leaves Leonard.
When you look in more detail at all these partnerships, Metro Sports, track and field complex, Alvamar/Jayhawk golf course, either Zenger was a genius or the smell becomes stronger. Since Zenger was fired it only leaves the other option.
Interesting. Being carried only by the two most incompetent cable outlets in the KC area did not help. Also, with Zenger gone and no chance of getting another sweetheart deal from KU was probably the kiss of death.
I posted before that it would be difficult to pass on a good 3 point shooter and a starter that played over 30 mpg on the team that made it to the Final Four. I also posted that if he comes back he will be on a short leash which also appears to be true.
More to your point, worst case scenario, he gets suspended from the team but stays in school and graduates in December since he will need only 12 credit after Summer school, something I am sure Coach Self has taken into consideration. Best case, he explodes and leads KU to a National title and plays himself into the draft with a real chance this go around and a fresh college degree to boot. Not that much and an easily mitigable risk and potentially a big reward.
For some of the work I did for the DoD I had to go through background checks but it never got to the level of taking a polygraph so no, I have not personally taken one but I know people that have. Of course, the FBI and DoD have a lot more advanced equipment and technology than commonly available so the tests they administer are likely more reliable than those available to the public at large.
With some basic coaching most people can pass a polygraph test and the test is notorious for generating false positive and false negative results and, because of this inherent unreliability, they are not accepted in a court of law. Available literature appears to indicate that psychopaths and sociopaths have an easier time passing a polygraph than average.
When a private firm gets such favorable treatment from a government/public agency it certainly gives the impression that someone else in the middle benefited greatly.
If I recall correctly, there was always the chance Bagley would reclassify and attend Duke. No coach in his right mind would pass on the top player of the class any more than he would promise stardom; playing time and exposure is as much as he can offer. Bolden was recruited over again and again and he has a better case than Carter. Carter could have asked for his release and go play elsewhere but he chose to stay at Duke and he was picked at about the right spot where all the mock drafts had him. Thinking he could have gone higher is just wishful thinking...by his parents; I don’t believe he has complained about it.
I am sure you meant a 180 degree turn from last year. BTW, he needs 12 credit hours AFTER Summer school which is pretty dang good.
This is one loaded schedule that should prepare KU for the money games in March. If the team performs as we hope it does, it will be fun to watch all these games.
The expectation is that the new AD will have to fix the football program and that is one tall order that most potential ADs would not want to take on.
I just cannot agree with your logic. If getting the top HS player would steal the thunder of other players, Kentucky or Duke would not get all the recruits they get once the top player signs. Zion Williamson, the #3 SF signed with Duke even when Barrett, the #1 SF had already signed...you can also say that Carter stole the limelight from Bolden before Bagley stole it from him. As @dylans mentioned, if Bagley did not go to Duke, Carter would have been the focus of the opposing teams defense and his number would not have been nearly as good; having Bagley likely deflected attention to him and freed Carter some.
As I understand the BOR in Kansas is very unique insofar as it is part of the State's constitution and with complete independence from the legislature; they can try but unless the change the state's constitution it will not work.
As I indicated before. the legislature has tried to get KU, KSU and WSU to play each other and it has not gone far precisely because what I mentioned above.
In college sports football is king with basketball second and baseball a very distant third. FWIW, KSU is not in as bad a situation as it seems since its football program has been fairly successful for many years now and as we all know, football drives conference realignment.
With the current status of the football program, I just don't see any conference wanting to take KU which really needs to get its act together before the next round of alignment and not risk being left behind or having to join a basketball conference like the Big East, which might be problematic since KU is not a Catholic school, although Butler is technically a non-sectarian school but founded by Christians. Even the Big 12 is probably not crazy about having KU, it brings nothing to the table in football and hogs all the glory in basketball.
Now, this is pretty funny...

I just don't see how the legislature would tie funding to sports; no way it happens.
I am not sure the legislature has the authority to do anything. The BOR was established in the Kansas constitution to govern all the State higher learning institutions, precisely to keep it out of the legislature. The legislature had tried for years to get the 3 major schools to play each other with no luck.
Exactly. Which is the more desirable bracket? Six one way, half a dozen the other.
You must think NBA scouts are incompetent and don't know how to evaluate talent. Embiid played 28 games, averaged 23.1 mpg, 11.2 ppg and 8.1 rpg, not particularly eye popping stats, and even injured, with a limited basketball background and not playing in the Tournament, was selected #3. The NBA selects players based on the evaluation they make and the player suitability to the NBA and not necessarily on how they performed in college, if this was the case Mason, the consensus POY in college would have been picked #1. Carter was selected right around where he was projected to be picked and I just don't see him being picked any higher.
He always had the option of leaving Duke and playing elsewhere or siting out the season, after all it worked well for Mitchell Robinson...oh wait...never mind.
The winner gets the easier next opponent, Japan, and then the winner of Brazil-Mexico. The loser gets the much harder Colombia and then the winner of Sweden-Switzerland.
England should be ahead instead Belgium is....
Very different cases. One was a one time deal that involved only pictures of a 15 years old (likely a selfie) which is not uncommon for teens in HS given the availability of digital photos and cell pones, while the other involved actual physical contact with a 4 year old and happened over a period of two years.
Both Belgium and England have the best teams they have had in a while and both have the potential to get far. Both have already booked a place in the knock out stage but their upcoming game will tell which has the better chance to go farther.
A Brazil-Spain clash could be a likely final.
I was surprised by all the flopping by Sweden against Mexico and the ref did not do Mexico any favors either. it was almost comical to see a 5'6" Mexican player jumps against a 6'4", 40 pound heavier Swede and almost every time the Swedish player ended up on the floor holding a part of his body that was not even involved in the collision; Swedes made Argentinian players look like amateurs.
You are assuming Carter would have been selected higher than he was, had Bagley not attended Duke, and there is nothing that would indicate this outcome. Regardless of where they played Ayton and Bagley were clearly the top players and in looking a the draft order I just don't see that Carter would have been picked any higher since the mock drafts had him between 7 and 10; in fact, had he not played ta Duke he might have gone lower. Switch schools for Bamba and Carter and Bamba is a top 3 pick and Carter a marginal top 10.
I seriously doubt that any coach in his right mind would pass on Bagley just because Carter was told he might be the star. Also, coaches do not guarantee stardom, at best they promise playing time and exposure and it is up to the individual to work at translating playing time and exposure into becoming a star; Bagley and Carter both did but Bagley is the better player with more upside and this is why he went higher. BTW, of all the bigs at Duke, only Bagley played more mpg than Carter. Embiid played less games and less mpg of any of the starters at KU and yet he went #3.
Now Bolden might have a better case than Carter at Duke...
The sad truth is that every school has a problem with sexual assault of varying degrees and extent - the result of the times we live, no doubt - and most try to keep it as quiet as possible for obvious reasons. The problem at Baylor was exacerbated because it also involved high profile student-athletes who, precisely because of that high profile, should have been under a close watch by people that were in charge to do it. Instead, TPTB turned a blind eye and made things considerably worse by trying to cover it up with involvement to the higher levels and the implicit level of tolerance by the school made things considerably worse with obvious and catastrophic results.
Short of an overhaul of the entire administration that tacitly tolerated that environment the issue will linger on.
Better picture with Svi sporting Nike shorts...
If you read my post you will see I listed what would be required to get such coach. Is it possible? Yes. Is it likely? Probably not...which is what I wrote in the first place.

Certainly you meant to write sanity challenged, right?
There is a thread about it on Facebook and most posters think that mom is way out of line. Coaches recruit over other players all the time; foolish and naive to think that Duke would pass on the #1 player...no coach would.
It really is not as difficult as it seems. KU would have to find a good coach, show him the school is ready to upgrade the facilities, give him the resources to succeed, give him a salary competitive with top coaches and above all...Carte Blanche to run the program without interference from the AD; the last one would be hard because no AD wants to give a coach unfettered control.
I believe it really depends on who the new coach is. A superior hire would not only keep the players and commitments but attract new, better players as well.
There is one issue that has not been addressed. There are some crimes of opportunity such as teenagers finding a car with the keys on and taking it for a joy ride, a one time occurrence that will likely not be repeated. Also, some sexual offenses are not clear cut and sometimes unwarranted such as two HS teens having consensual sex only for the girl to either have buyer’s remorse or the parents forcing her to say it was not consensual or the grown up looking female picking a guy at a bar and then turns out she was underage and the male is forever branded a sex offender.
This was not such a case as the abuse apparently happened over a TWO YEAR period...this was not an isolated occurrence but a pattern and a strong indicator that it will happen again.
I believe he should be allowed to make a living but not doing anything that would place in contact or anywhere near young kids and athletes are frequently near kids. As a father and grandfather, I would not want this individual anywhere near my kids or grandkids.
Your payroll figure for the Royals is incomplete; the 2018 payroll is ~$138M. Here is a source ↗ and every one I have seen of the complete payroll is about the same.
We can go on forever and we will not agree. You think the Royals management sucks and I think that under the conditions and limitation it is doing reasonably well.
