That campus looks pretty at night.
Last year I got most our games on basic. Things changed this year for some reason. I didn't think about the ESPN full court option-thanks much for the tip.
Lots of accurate observations -I really can't add anything except my confidence in this years chances for another Big 12 title or deep run in March is not as high this year.
It was nice to see Oubre shine.
I've missed quite a few games because the PPV here has been $119.
Last night it dropped to $29 so I saw the game. As all have posted there are ups and downs..

What has me worried the most are the pukey grey unis that Adidas is making us wear. We must get that uniform color right, or we're going to continue to look ugly.
I can't figure the greys out. We look great in Red, White, or Blue. Why do we wear these stinking grey unis?
Sorry. Mizzou---not.
I had buddies that went to Mizzou and didn't have the have the hate for them until the Antlers and a few things the past 10 years including their attempt to leave the big 12 for the big 10. And then they bolt for the SEC and want the benefit of playing us to make some money on the side.
This is exactly what Texas A&M wants from Texas. Sorry-you divorced us for greener pastures and want the best of both worlds after the fact.
Go pound sand.
2003 is my third. At the time I lived in SoCal and went to the KU - Duke game at the Pond.
I took my time looking into flights from LA and the price was outrageous. I passed on the final four because of that and had been to the SuperDome for a football game- knew the seats would be terrible unless you spent a fortune for seats close in.
So two of these three are on my list because was at games late in the tourney. Luckily I got smart and flew my dad in for the 2008 games in San Antonio. He was a HUGE KU fan and we got to attend those together.
The VCU was tough on me. I took my son over to San Antonio for the Richmond Game which was fun. Skipped the VCU game because we were getting the house ready for a bunch of guests heading our way for the Houston final four.
Next to that was losing to Arizona when we had Pierce and LaFrenz playing together. At least Arizona went on to win it all for Lute.
Just for fun-since many may have spare time this week.
@justanotherfan
I like your thinking and hope it happens.
@Shanghai_RCJH
Thanks-I went brain dead on that -my only excuse is I'm on vacation.
Fair enough JB. As I qualified it "my expectations" and I consider myself a novice in terms of bball IQ on this site.
I am fine with this drop as my expectations have taken a few hits along the way. The good news is the Big 12 still has 6 of 10 ranked; TCU dropped out due to the GW-Indiana game.
@justanotherfan
I am a HUGE believer that Health is a talent unto itself. I saw many kids with great numbers come to the KU track team and the workouts ran them into the ground. Some didn't even finish fall semester. Others were burnt out before the season was over and left KU.
I was fortunate to come from a top high school with great coaching. Even so, our entire workout in high school equaled a college warmup BEFORE practice started. Except for weight training. I would say the difference in weight training days were 1.5x to 2x more difficult in college. Some athlete's bodies just can't make that transition. And a high school grad compared to a college junior- about 21 years old. Talk about men among boys. So except for the prime athlete like a Cromwell or Wiggins there is still a big adjustment just to the college level.
NOW-throw the NBA level in the mix? I would think 2AD would help protect these athletes.
I get they jump for the money-just wish they weren't in that position. I'd like to see money put into escrow accounts-with some money available immediately for families in hardship cases like McLemore's situation.

Cedar Hill appeared in the last three straight Texas State Championships winning the last two.
The fact that the Cedar Hill coach was calling Beaty about athletes the week before the game tells me his recruiting connections to the land of Friday Night Lights are the real deal.
Darn-I didn't get to a game quick enough to see him play for them.
But since he has a contract isn't he covered financially for this year and next whether a team picks him up (I sure hope someone picks him up anyway).
Merry Christmas to all.

Here is how I read Self. He is always in motion.
Sometimes he tells you things straight up. Sometimes he jokes. Sometimes he gives the AW SHUCKS line. Sometimes he shares his frustrations as well as compliments. These can be aimed at his athletes, other athletes, coaches, administrators, fans, journalists, etc., etc. etc.
as a guy who ran several sales and marketing departments in the private sector I used all the above and sometimes smoke and mirrors just to keep people guessing. Sometimes you'd rather saysomething silly than trash out at a guy with a stupid question or vent on someone who is trying to get a rise out of you. I think Self has a good set of options he uses.

Most of us have been an armature athlete & maybe volunteer coach, but as a guy who ran several sales and marketing departments in the private sector I used all the above and sometimes smoke and mirrors just to keep people guessing. @wrwlumpy
great story lumpster.
Here is a nice bit from the KC Star on Coach Beaty. I am encouraged.

Way to go TROB. love it.
OUTSTANDING POST.
JMHO-I think we are at the point where muscles are able to exceed what tendons and joints could take over a long time period.
Dead on JFT.
And if I have stepped on someone's toes-I am sorry. Just let me know and I will be happy to go on record.

I'm with you 1000 percent.
We are lucky and I think most if us get it. Certainly the media embraces it these days.
I may have posted this before-not sure but I have a story about AFH that I think is special-I did not play bBall at KU, but spent a lot of time in AFH as an athlete and bBall spectator during my KU days.
40 years ago I had an experience that still gives me chills. This time I want to touch base with a few teammates and see if they ever had the same thing happen before I elaborate further.
@jaybate-1.0
Great post-can't believe I scrolled through the entire thing with one thumb on my blackberry. Happy hour and two top shelf Margs might have steadied me.
I've learned a lot from you and enjoy you posts- but I have to admit your bBall IQ along with HEM and a few others just leaves me in the dust.
But I digress. RCJH
@Hawk8086
Now and then you just have to scroll down when it comes to JB. While he is gifted he sometimes runs along. I member the reader's digest in my grandparents bathroom, followed by a quote from Jeff Goldblume (sp) in "The Big Chill." To paraphrase
"Nothing in a magazine should take longer to read than the average trip to the bathroom." That's how I feel about an internet post.
@joeloveshawks
You make a good point about youth on other teams and last year's youth.
I think of Graham(now injured) & Svi, Alexander and Kelly. Lucas and Green are older but have very little experience. Alexander is doing good things and Kelly could show up. I should have said with this many newbies we lack experience playing at this level (NCAA).
But Mason is solid (just a few too many TT plays) and Selden and Perry obviously have the experience.
So you've helped my outlook a bit-thanks.
I think we are too young, and not tall enough. Texas scares me and I will be at the game in Austin where I think they will lose. I also expect a loss at ISU. I wouldn't be surprised if someone else upsets us too. OU is good. I'm just hoping UT and ISU get upset here or there too. If the big 12 is beating each other up it helps us win the conference. I don't see us getting to the elite 8 unless we start playing consistently.
I think NEXT year is the year for another title run.
But I will pull for them thick and thin.
@wrwlumpy
I was surprised we didn't move up a bit after those wins given our RPI. On the otherhand we are playing jeckle and hyde halves and squeaking by on some of these wins.
52 million split two ways-not bad.
@wrwlumpy
When were you at my house?
If David Chang married Connie Chung, they could have a son who covered Tennis for ESPN named Ching Chang Chung.
(Going for a laugh-no malice .)
I hope he finds a way to make it to play professionally here or there as I do for those who have a reasonable chance, but if that's not in the cards I hope he can make a living in the game as a coach wherever as I hope for all .
@Lulufulu
I would love to see Cali fall on his but too, but I am always sorry to see a kid hurt-no matter who they play door with one exception which doesn't apply here. To my knowledge this kid plays fair.
I HATE dirty players and players that cheat. Cheating until you get caught is now common at high school level sports in Texas-even with the girls. Grabbing arms and jerseys to hold them now happens all the time all game long.. It sucks, but I digress. I hope Poythress makes a full recovery.
Kids that take shots at hurting someone should have a multi game suspension, and if they do it again they are out for the year-same with pros.
Love to watch Marisa Tomei go off about her clock ticking.
That becuz u is edgemakated.
Of course the narration is in Rod Serling's voice. (Submitted for Jaybate's approval.)

@JayhawkRock78 You make a fair point. I am not trying to do a point by point comparison of KSU football to KU basketball for the last 100 years. And I also admit that KU basketball is considered royalty by the basketball world AND that 10 big 12 titles in a row is a monumental achievement.
Still I would not turn away from a Bill Snyder clone if I was going to get a football team similar to the last 20 years at KSU, which I think was the point of the original post. And, if after 20 years of success, then the the program struggles (as we seem to think KSU will), well so be it. I'm still not turning down 20 good years.
Sorry, I did not make myself clear. Bill Snyder walks on water. He is the perfect example of a Great man, great coach, true Christian and on and on. I love everything about him and I am no KSU homer. Still, Bill Snyder alone, or his success at KSU doesn't hold a candle to the KU bBall program. History. I am jealous of what he did/has done at KSU.

Totally love the report thAt Jamari was taking the high road to break up a fight ( been there) . So he tried to be a peacemaker and be the voice of reason.
So in the best of best of both worlds he steps in to do a kind (and wise) thing to diffuse the situation.
But the other tale is the cops show up among confusion and he is caught up in the mix?
Who knows-just happy it ended as a minor speed bump.
Sorry careful.
At best you are comparing these programs in a snapshot?
As a program, KSU football is NOTHING historically. KU bBall isRoyalty.
In Snyder years KSU has success in some bowl games and nice winning records. Zero ncaa titles (only in the hunt once and disappeared early) and what-maybe one conference title? I am too lazy to check the KSU conference titles-maybe one and or a tie.
KU bBall 2008 NCAA title, championship game and 10 big12 titles in a row?
How can you compare these two???
Jaybate-
Someone else of note who loved America.
Obviously I have zero information on the details here, but I would like to make am observation about this "civil unrest" and accountability.
My parents generation and those before held themselves accountable for there actions as did everyone before them. I was taught if I did something wrong like break a neighbors window while playing ball I was to knock on the door, confess, apologize, and fix the window.
I live on a golf course and have had MANY broken windows. Only ONCE did a golpher offer to pay for it-and he did. We have told many of these people (white businessmen) they just broke our window and they ignore us and take off in their cart. There is a sign in the clubhouse stating they are responsible for damage to private property, but when we call in with the cart #, time and hole number, they just say they can't do anything. We have all kinds of dents on cars from parking lots without one note of " hey I'm sorry-here is my number, call me to discuss". This is a very affluent neighborhood I'm talking about.
Most likely I am preaching to the choir here. I am sorry for Jamari's difficult background and hope this little incident is a good lesson to choose his friends carefully and watch his every move. College is meant to be a magical time with fun involved, but when a cop shows up it is yes sir, no sir, time. My kids have seen me pulled over several times and I put both hands on the wheel and do that whether I am getting a t.icket or not.
As for our culture it saddens me that a smaller and smaller % of us hold ourselves accountable for our actions. I am not saying cops don't make mistakes or overreact, but in a tense situation the correct behavior by a citizen can go a long long way to diffuse the situation.
My heart sunk when I saw this. Sure hope it's minor. In the 70's the cops treated students with kids gloves. I did a few things out of line-and was just told-go home and stay in for the rest of the night.
@nuleafjhawk
Geez I'm dense. I just figured out the joke in your post.
No clue although I like Bowen and he wouldn't leave KU.
It will be interesting to watch the musical chairs hitting the Power 5.
