@wrwlumpy
I love these presentations of yours too. Thanks so much for the effort.

Where Have All the Long Men Gone? • Jan 15, 2015 06:38 PM

@HawkInMizery
Match-ups happen in Club bball (AAU and such) in the off-season.

Next Up: Iowa State (11), 12-3, 2-1 Big 12 • Jan 15, 2015 04:17 AM

I was hoping Baylor had the game out of reach but of course they didn't protect their cushion and ISU got it down to the last shot.
I am happy we have the benefit of Baylor knocking ISU down a notch on the W-L ranking our the big 12.

( and T-tech played KSU very heard on the road tonight. I was impressed with the effort.)

I don't think Cliff can do that with his left hand ( by the rules).

I didn't know he could jump that high. Most impressive.

Where Have All the Lurkers Gone? • Jan 14, 2015 01:37 PM

@jaybate-1.0
Thanks JB. I learned a lot from your post. I grew up watching John Wayne movies filmed in Monument Valley and later made a point to drive through it along with stops in Moab, Arches, Lake Powell, and the Grand Canyon. I loved those trips.
I've never heard these guys talk about the American Southwest but will ask bring it up in the future.

Where Have All the Lurkers Gone? • Jan 14, 2015 05:11 AM

Nice-I work for. German company but they don't know diddly about bBall. At any level.

Welcome aboard mdm. I haven't seen them play, but UVA certainly has the respect of the pollsters.

KU vs OSU - Chat Here • Jan 14, 2015 02:58 AM

@Crimsonorblue22
That sure seemed obvious to me. I had some respect for him but I think that was a stunt and beneath him-maybe he thought he could fool KU and sneak up on them??? My guess is the KU coaches advised our boys don't believe it for a second.

Haase signs extension • Jan 13, 2015 09:31 PM

Thanks. You are describing some the other half of the problems I had in that organization.
More and more meetings, reports, and rules and less and less autonomy to do one's job.

The current job I have is 180 degrees from that and I count myself very lucky.

Where Have All the Lurkers Gone? • Jan 13, 2015 08:48 PM

@RockChalkinTexas
Losers? That's a laugh. This place is full of class.

Haase signs extension • Jan 13, 2015 08:41 PM

@jaybate-1.0
I once worked for a large German company that had all kinds of official policies. It emboldened some individuals to be blatant about their lifestyle. I got tired of it and once made a comment while some of us were out drinking. That comment got back to someone above my pay-grade and the next review I got put me on probation for bad performance, with no mention of any offense. Just bad marks although I was always above quota. I quit shortly there after. Right in front of my desk is a bookcase with two plaques from said company congratulating me for above quota performance for the two years I was an employee there. It reminds me how screwed up things can be with some people and/or organizations.

Where Have All the Lurkers Gone? • Jan 12, 2015 10:28 PM

Not to take this off on a KU is greatest thing ever tangent, but with all the losses this past week teams rankings were shuffled and KU moved up to 9. Not a bad spot. UT dropped to 20. We still have over half the conference ranked. Go Big 12. (Well ten of us anyway.)

Christian Garrett ESPN • Jan 11, 2015 04:52 AM

So happy for you CG. The KU bench tells the story. They love you and were so happy for you. RCJH. No matter what transpires from here on-you have stats that will always be part of the KU program.

A bit of trivia I did not know... • Jan 09, 2015 06:49 PM

I met Ray once and knew his son at KU. I should try to catch up with him-surely must have told him about those two games.

I read PHOG Allen did not like the rim at 10 feet, did not believe dunking was fair and tried to get the bucket moved up to 12 feet.

ku football/beaty • Jan 09, 2015 03:35 PM

The radio here in Houston says Kenny is heading to TCU which isn't far from where he played in High School. But we can hope.

In related news.... • Jan 09, 2015 04:13 AM

Absolutely congrats to Coach Snyder.

My wife grew up in Manhattan and her mom was a big time cat backer who was fortunate enough to see Snyder bring them out of the cellar

At the same time there is now way we should have seen KU Football collapse the way way it did year after year in the post Mangino years.

Motivational Speech #101: The 2% Law • Jan 09, 2015 03:46 AM

I missed your point and I am sorry. I was talking an annual goal.

Motivational Speech #101: The 2% Law • Jan 09, 2015 01:38 AM

That sounds great and I'm sure it worked.

Of course our KU ATHELETES are cream of the crop and have been giving and giving and giving their best for years before they got here.

Our HS jump coach expected 10% increase / year and usually got it because he was ahead of his time in knowledge and training.

Now in the biz world if you set a 2% gain as a goal you won't last long.

TEXAS TECH RED RAIDERS • Jan 09, 2015 01:25 AM

It is pretty, but I need to qualify " river". Old time Texans claim everything is "bigger in Texas". Not so for rivers-given the size of the state rivers are VERY important and can be far and between. I am pretty sure you can wade across nearly all of them in plenty of places.

TEXAS TECH RED RAIDERS • Jan 09, 2015 01:06 AM

The Brozos runs north of the campus and the new stadium (new this year) is right beside it-running west to east at that point. I'd say the stadium was the house that RG3 built-but really some alums have been poring money into the program for a while. I haven't been there but have some friends with kids just graduated or attending now. Should mean an opportunity for tickets soon. I will report once I get inside but I expect good things-nothing on the scale of A&M -was there a month ago-but nice.

TEXAS TECH RED RAIDERS • Jan 08, 2015 11:08 PM

If you take half the stadium off on the right hand side. And that track has some funny turns-kind of tough on sprinters..

TEXAS TECH RED RAIDERS • Jan 08, 2015 11:05 PM

The Brazos river runs next to the stadium in Waco. Then it winds its way down here just West of Houston.

Now in my John Wayne voice, "You can......water your herd on the Brazos at my place.......it's close by and the waters a lot cleaner too......"

Bragg Commits to KU! • Jan 08, 2015 08:26 PM

Thanks for the link. I seldom watch film on our recruits. I noticed he doesn't jump as high as Wiggins and he is 2" taller.--maybe he is just being efficient.

I will say I liked his footwork on the spin moves and liked seeing him hit 3's.

Anyway-great day for the hawks. Congrats to Coach Self!

Carlton said he was invited to coach self's house and got to hang with the team there.
He said he felt a lot of brotherly love. Great move Coach Self!

@konkeyDong
I heard that too-luckily he followed with Kansas

@konkeyDong
Thanks for that link. I've never seen one of these things live, and was afraid I would jinx it.

Kansas it is!

We won- barely in my opinion but,we got the W,

Nice that

Predictions: Kansas vs Baylor • Jan 08, 2015 04:51 AM

Nice to get the W. I have my gut reactions to how we squeaked this out but need to see stats. My gut reaction is both teams were a bit off and we hung tough down the wire.

Can We Win Another Big 12 Championship? • Jan 07, 2015 06:02 PM

@RockChalkinTexas
I am driving over Saturday with a UT grad. I saw a KU Alumni link that said there was a KU gathering at Scholz Garden two blocks West of the arena-I will talk to him about stopping by before or after. We normally spend the night and hang out at 6th street.

Kentucky Escapes in OT 89-86 over Ole Miss • Jan 07, 2015 04:28 PM

No doubt UK has the top talent, but athletes don't always have good games. They are down a few times here or there. They do have so much depth some of the players can pick up the slack, they may go undefeated but they may go down a time or two this year playing a team having a hot night. Would a loss help them from being too tight in March? I think there is something to that- it will be interesting to see how things play out this year.

@Kip_McSmithers
I did a sort across all programs and we came up # 3.

@jaybate-1.0
Where does one get thes numbers and is it listed at all top programs?

Can We Win Another Big 12 Championship? • Jan 06, 2015 02:39 PM

@REHawk
I turned to game on at the half and could not believe 14 points for Texas at the half-at home no less. UT couldn't dig themselves out of that hole. I will be in Austin to see KU on the 24th. I had penciled in an L for that game. Now???

THE BAYLOR BEARS • Jan 05, 2015 10:28 PM

Got the same thing going with a daughter in soccer here in Houston. Sometimes the DVR works out. As for the game- I felt we had a couple of runs that UNLV answered-then got in front of us at half. I was a big nervous at 51 all, and then KU started playing a bit better & got some nice separation at the end. I saw more transition buckets this game which was fun and got the crowd going.

THE BAYLOR BEARS • Jan 05, 2015 09:37 PM

Corporate Sponsors in College Venues. • Jan 05, 2015 05:44 AM

Thanks JF2. AFH is special and I don't see anything changing there.

Corporate Sponsors in College Venues. • Jan 05, 2015 02:27 AM

While I am a big business fan and think Big Govt is really bad and strangles economic growth with too many regulations I have a gripe against corporate sponsorship of athletic arenas. Case in point-since I moved to Houston in 2007 the new Football Stadium has it's THIRD name- Enron (a disgrace), Reliant, and now NRG. This same thing is happening to bowl game names-I can't keep up!

My biggest complaint-ads on a court (pioneer corn on the floor at the Hilton-ISU.). I am okay with the Wards Suites up above Memorial Stadium but it irked me to see Russell Stover candy on the backboard last year. I didn't see it today -maybe the new owner- a European outfit doesn't see the value. I just don't like seeing corporate names anywhere on the court or backboard in bBall. I am really not a fan of Phillips 66 on the scoreboard-but that is less of an intrusion in my mind.

I'm interested to hear what ya'll think?

BTW. Enjoyed the game today-loved the transition play today. RCJH.

I see that now-sorry about taking your post the wrong direction.

Tarik Black waived by the Rockets... • Jan 04, 2015 04:25 AM

I don't know much about HS sports 30 years ago, but 40 years ago there was not club sports in KC year round. You changed sports with seasons so while skill development didn't happen as quick for a similar sport (say basketball) you had the benefit of a season off to rest certain muscles for a different season. To this day I know football players had to adjust to bBall, just as bBall had to adjust to track, etc, etc.

Playing bBall year round now your skills have a huge advantage over someone who only did it 4 months a year.

Is Self getting burned out? • Jan 02, 2015 11:40 PM

@drgnslayr
Bill does great things for KU and you are right-he doesn't beat his own drum and sometimes he does things that few hear about. He is a real class act.

Is Self getting burned out? • Jan 02, 2015 11:34 PM

My only clue is his son Tyler. Once Tyler was part of the KU team I figured HCBS wasn't going anywhere until Tyler graduated. Now, if Tyler gets a spot as an assistant coach on the KU staff it buys us more time.

Tarik Black waived by the Rockets... • Jan 02, 2015 05:32 PM

I still maintain the average 21 year old has a lot over a 19 year old in terms of physical strength and endurance. Yes-some of these athletes bodies have matured further than others in the same amount of time but if you compare photos between these two ages you will see a difference in their muscular build. I think diet plays a part as well.
The difference between what mom serves the family at home compared to the training table at a top college program pays huge benefits to the athlete.

@VailHawk
Thanks for sharing that Vail. I've never seen fireworks over a Mountain before.

@jaybate-1.0
Some of the best memories of my youth is watching movies with my father late Saturday nights after mom and my sisters (3 of them) were in bed. Pop had a tough upbringing and did a ton of things to get me prepared along the way. Anyway-I love old movies with the Duke-but my favorite without him is Alan Ladd in "Shane". Is that on your list?

Happy New Year to " all y'all".
