What a tough hard earned win! Extremely proud! Will watch this one over and over this week for sure! Leadership stepped to the forefront. Graham, Svi, Udoka, Vick, and Newman. Way to persevere!
Coach Izzo must be doing something right? A player as talented as Bridges does not stay if the climate isn't great. I would not say he is overrated. 7 Final Fours is a great accomplishment. Lots of outstanding student athletes want to play for him and he has turned down offers from the NBA. He is clearly one of the best coaches in college basketball.
Great to see Silvio on the court! He will get it together, no doubt!
@Fightsongwriter Now that would be the ultimate!
@Gorilla72 Being the number 1 team in the Nation and playing on CBS is pretty much a loss. How many times has that happened to us?
@truehawk93 D-1 Basketball is definitely a team sport. Every player is not going to have it every single games. Some games shots just aren't falling. It can happen to even the best of players. For example, Udoka was unstoppable against TCU, with the exception of foul trouble. Lightfoot comes up with 6 blocks, crashes the boards, and even knocks down a three! Stories like that, to me, are what make College Basketball fun. It takes a team to win. I think Young is an exceptional player and fun to watch. I don't agree with the media comparing him to Curry after a handful of College games. That's not really fair to him. I wish him the best, just not against us.
@Fightsongwriter Works for me!!!!
Again, an Awe Saturday for Kansas Jayhawks Basketball! Looks like everything went our way on Saturday! Could not have predicted it, but I am glad things fell our way! Go Jayhawks! Missouri, KSU, Syracuse, OU, TCU, Duke, Kentucky and UNC. Wow! Anymore to add to the list?
Kansas wins! Duke, UNC, Kentucky, and OU lost. What a Super Saturday for the Kansas Jayhawks!
Now that we got our 2nd round tourney loss out of the way.....
The Kansas Jayhawks are the team to beat in the Big XII. I don't see that changing anytime soon. It is another year and I am sure the other teams, whether it is OU, WVU, Texas Tech, Baylor, KSU, or any other school in the Conference, thinks this is the year they are going to take the Conference Title away from the Kansas Jayhawks. I am not worried about the other schools. The other schools better worry about Kansas! We have another great team assembled. Devonte Graham, I would not want any other point guard in the Big XII. Lagerald Vick, I would not trade for anyone. When Svi gets to cooking from the outside, we go to another level. Udoka Azubuike? There's only one Udoka and he resides at Allen Field House. He dominates physically in the paint like no other. Newman is a sharpshooter and can get to the basket. Garrett is a rising freshman. Lightfoot is coming along nicely. Hopefully, we will see what Billy Preston brings to the table soon. Silvio Desouza is on board along with Sam Cunliffe, lots of potential there. Not to mention the transfers that they go up against every day in practice only making our team better. I say the rest of the Big XII should worry about the Kansas Jayhawks and Hall of Fame Coach Bill Self!
Merry Christmas everyone!
Malik Newman? Nope. Easy answer. We got spread out, sped up, carved up and served by a quick and confident team that took our best shot in the beginning and then issued out a good old fashioned butt whipping. We lost the game. We are not full strength and hopefully we can get it together. This is the reason I enjoy the hell out of every win. Losing sucks, but it's not the end of the world. Their guards got in the paint, attacked the basket and made layups. Our guards got in the paint for pull up jumpers. Great lesson learned and plenty of game tape to review. We will be okay. We always are! Malik Newman needs and deserves our support.
Great team win. Each game is different. There will be games where players like Marcus Garrett and Mitch Lightfoot will shine. They are outstanding basketball players. Devonte Graham has patiently waited, and now it is his time to shine. Malik Newman will win games for us this year. He is an amazing talent and will get opportunities to show what he can do. Vick and Svi are seasoned veterans and it shows. At this point, it does not appear that opponents can "speed up" our team into making countless mistakes. We are able to move the ball and show patience running the offense. It is a joy to watch everything come together. Udoka is still figuring things out, but is off to a great start. Looking forward to Preston, hopefully getting cleared. I am sure he is ready to show what he brings to the program. 7-0, and a long way to go. Enjoying the ride as usual. Go Jayhawks!
Iām pretty happy about last nights game! We won the game! We played 7 players total and Lightfoot did not play 10 minutes. Kentucky on the other tried to sandbag us and threw everything but the kitchen sink at us. Make no mistake, Coach Calipari tried to win this game. They just came up short. We were the better team. It was a tournament type game where the opponent tried to muddy it up against us and came up short. Iām happy for the win and I feel once we have our full compliment of players, the sky is the limit!
Hopefully, this will be a contest that shows the virtues of staying in school!
Kansas is always number 1 to me. I also thought Wichita State would be preseason top 5 this season.
Owning the glass will be a great thing come tournament time! This year and next!
Bill Self is a Rock Star! His Band's music never goes out of style!
It's not bragging if it's true....congratulations. Be proud!
@wrwlumpy Congratulations!

I am looking for Svi, Udoka, and Graham to lead the way.
Thoughts and prayers to you and your spouse!
If not for a BS foul called on Graham against Villanova and 2 pick fouls on Jackson against Oregon, we could just as easily be back to back National Champions. Losing sucks and it always will. However, we win more than we lose. These setbacks will make winning our next one all the more sweeter.
@JayHawkFanToo Great post!
@Crimsonorblue22 He is one of a kind! A very special talent, once in a generation type player!
He will learn the NBA game fast. He is already 20 years old which is to his advantage. Definitely going to miss him, but I am excited about next year's team! Then again, I am excited about every year's team!
Home and home, I don't think anybody is beating the Big XII. I would love to see a Conference series where the teams play home and home back to back Saturday's. That would be a true series and settle this thing. Most teams don't want to travel to places like Baylor, ISU, TCU, KSU, Texas Tech, OU, and OSU. Those fans get fired up for big games. Imagine the intensity and the build up? Would love to see KU vs Duke or UNC home and home on consecutive weekends.
Give Bell 2 fouls one at the 17:40 mark and another at the 17:23 mark and don't give any to Jackson and we win the game. They were allowed to hack, and we weren't. We got frustrated and the shots didn't fall. It was just like playing Michigan State in year's past. Bell could have just as easily been in foul trouble for shoves in the back and straight up hacking. We could have beat any team in the tournament, but we didn't. All it takes is one bad game or one bad break and you go home. Look at the Northwestern/Gonzaga game. Zags win by a player sticking his hand through the underside of the basket to goal tend and all I heard last night was how great they were. They should have went home early, but that's just the way it goes. It takes skill, heart, and luck to win this thing.
@drgnslayr By Late Night we will have one heck of a squad. It happens every year.
@drgnslayr We don't rebuild, we reload.
Roy's way works and so does Bill's. Congratulations to Coach Williams. I could imagine all of his player's in a Jayhawks uniform if he were still coaching here. I wouldn't trade any of ours under Self though. I like our chances in the future.
Oregon is now on the Drive to Interstate 5!
Slapped backboard should be a goaltend!
Jackson's stroke is true!
@approxinfinity With a finger pressed to their lips.
It appears Meeks loves Duck.
@truehawk93 May have been the difference in the Oregon game?
@Lulufulu everyday!
@Crimsonorblue22 I feel that way every year. The last two year's for sure!
Some never get tired of taking about wins, others prefer to only cry about losses.
@Crimsonorblue22 I enjoy watching it. I enjoy the comeback. It was nerve racking when it happen, but always a joy to look at. Mario definitely had ice water in his veins!
2:12 remaining...What were your thoughts at that point? Mine were, we need to go on a run and quick. Nervous, but still optimistic.
Our bracket was filled with teams loaded with height and bullies. We knocked off MSU (bullies on the court) and Purdue (plenty of height). There fan bases have to be pissed about losing to Kansas. The one thing I take away from not advancing in this year's tournament is that before we left, we took a few teams with us.
@approxinfinity Great post that really cuts to the heart of the matter. In my opinion, that is the type of players that Coach Self craves. The issue is, he just doesn't have enough of them. Absolutely agree that we need killers on the court, players that will kick your heart out and laugh about it afterwards.
How bad does Bill Self feel today? He has to feel worse than anyone in this forum. In his life, he doesn't have time to sit around and worry himself to death. He has to find out which players are staying, which are leaving and which players does he need to come here that gives him the best chance to compete for a National Championship. He will also make time to have a Team Banquet and personally thank each member for their role in another great season. It may not be the ultimate season, but reaching the Elite 8 is a great accomplishment.
@mayjay Bill Self is the man, according to LaGerald Vick and that's good enough for me!
Kansas defeated every team that plays in the Champions Classic this year. Victories over Duke, Kentucky, and Michigan State in the same season. Not too bad. I enjoy victories over those 3 teams!
@approxinfinity I could not agree more.
@approxinfinity It appears that Coach Altman did a masterful job of getting his team to have a hatred on the basketball court for KU. That was the difference in the game. KU came out expecting to play as the 1 seed, close to their home court, basically having all of the advantages. Oregon on the other hand, had a coach that has had enough of getting his behind handed to him by KU. In hindsight, this factor was greatly underestimated. Based on the way their team and coach behaved after the game, the hate was obvious. They talked about sending the KU Fans home, about KU having home court advantage and about putting the Jayhawks to sleep. It looks like this was the opportunity they were playing for, from the time the tournament started. They were bold I their shot selection and wildly celebrated, which gave them a psychological advantage and left our team a step slow and flat footed as some players began to think too much and self doubt crept in. I think we came in prepared and with a good game plan. We were not prepared to lose Jackson in 2 and a half minutes and for the amount of anger and fearlessness that Oregon played with. Some of our players blinked, when they were being stared at and when you lose focus in the Elite 8, you go home.
